Wolf Princess Chapter 9
The door then opened and Remus stepped through, but none of them there could see the girl with him. Remus acknowledged the other professor's with a smile and a polite nod of the head.
"Professors," greeted Remus. "Headmaster."
"Ah, Remus, I assume you've completed your mission," said Dumbledore, smiling.
"Yes," said Remus, grinning, " and with great results."
Remus turned beckoning to someone standing outside. All of the professors shared a look as he was doing this.
Outside of the room I was quite reluctant to enter. I didn't know what I was going to face once I stepped inside there.
Remus was giving me some gentle encouragement while holding his hands out to me.
"Come on," he coaxed, softly, "it's all right."
I didn't know why, but something in his eyes seemed to tell me I was safe. I arranged my bow and arrows over my shoulder placing my hand in his. As soon as I did he gently tugged me into the room.
The gazes of everyone in there immediately turned to me as I came in. Many of their eyes widened as I entered. I kept my head held high, not wanting to be intimidated by any of them. Besides Remus and I there were six other people in the room. Hagrid was there with three other males and from what I could tell there were two females there too.
I noticed that the females were looking especially shocked by what I was wearing. I wasn't that all surprised by this since what they were wearing was covering most of their bodies while mine was just covering the middle of my breasts and part of my lower area. It was much more revealing than any of them were wearing at all.
I looked to the male in the middle of them all. He was sitting down behind a large desk and there was no doubt that he was the eldest one of every person's there. Ti came to mind that he had to be their elder.
Smiling, he said "Ah, Remus, I see you were successful. I take it this is the one you spoke of."
Nodding, Remus said "Yes, Headmaster. Everyone this is Numa, Numa this is Albus Dumbledore, he's the Headmaster of the school here."
Smiling Dumbledore came out from behind his desk and came toward us with an outstretched hand to me.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, Numa," he said, softly, eyes twinkling down at me behind his spectacles.
At first I was hesitant to do so, but then I did take his hand.
"It's good to be here, Headmaster," I said, quickly retracting my hand back after we shook them.
"I trust that your journey here was all right," said Dumbledore.
"It was all right," confirmed Numa. "I live in the forest so it was easy for me."
"So I've heard," said Dumbledore. He then gestured to the other people in the room. "These are some of my Professors." He then began introducing them to me.
"Professor Minerva McGonagall who is Deputy Headmistress, Head of Gryffindor House, and teacher of Transfiguration."
A tall, dark haired woman in emerald green robes had a stern look on her face. She smiled in a welcoming sort of way, saying "Welcome to Hogwarts."
I nodded, returning the woman's smile.
"Professor Pamona Sprout, Head of Hufflepuff House and teaches Herbology."
A dumpy little woman with a kind face gave a little wave which was only slightly returned.
"Filius Flitwick, Head of the House of Ravenclaw and our Charms Professor."
A tiny little man that couldn't be higher than I gave a squeak, saying "It's nice to have you here."
At hearing his voice I held back a giggle that wanted to get out. His tone of voice was expected a little from his size, but it was still funny.
"Severus Snape, Head of Slytherin House and our Potions Master."
Severus Snape is a man with greasy black hair, a hooked nose and sallow skin. He was young and by the look of things I could see that he had to be around the same age as Remus if not so. He had this kind of posture and expression on his face giving off the atmosphere that he'd rather be somewhere else other than where he was now.
Severus Snape didn't say anything he just gave me a cold sneer. I cocked an eyebrow and looked away as Dumbledore went onto the next person, not bothering to say anything to him.
"You already know Hagrid and Remus Lupin. Hagrid is the Keeper of the Keys, Gamekeeper, and Professor of Care of Magical Creatures. Remus Lupin is our Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher."
I gave smiled to both Remus and Hagrid that were mirrored by the two of them.
"There are other people who work in the shool, but they haven't arrived at the castle yet," said Dumbledore. "You'll be able to meet them later on."
I nodded showing that I understood what the Headmaster was informing me. At the corner of my eye I noticed something strange.
Severus Snape was staring at me quite intently with a strange expression on his face. It was as if he was trying to figure something out. I turned as he was scrutinizing my face.
When he caught me watching him Snape narrowed his eyes and directed his gaze away from mine. I wasn't the only one who noticed his actions towards me.
Dumbledore was observing his man quite closely when he saw this occurring. He decided to bring the subject up a little later once the girl wasn't in hearing range.
"Well then," said Dumbledore, "now that you're here it's time to figure out what to do with you."
Curious, looking up at him head cocked to the side, I asked "What do you mean?"
Spreading his hands, Dumbledore said "If you are a witch then we'll do our best to integrate you into our society. If not then we'll do our best to provide for you as you are."
"I-I have magic," I stammered, "at least I think I do."
"What do you mean by that," enquired McGonagall.
I opened my mouth to answer her, but Remus beat me to it.
"she does have magic," said Remus. "I tested her on the way here. She can perform spells."
"Which spell did she do," said Flitwick.
"Silencio," answered Remus. "I didn't want to give her anything powerful incase it got out of control. She actually did it quite well."
Nodding, McGonagall said "Sounds good enough."
Dumbledore clapped his hands with a smile on his face.
"Now that's settled, why don't you tell us about yourself, Numa," suggested Dumbledore.
I looked around a bit nervously. Remus gave me an encouraging smile along with Sprout and McGonagall.
"Well," I began, "you already know that my name is Numa. Since I was a baby I've been living in the forest with my mother and two brothers."
"Mother? Brothers," voiced Sprout, "but weren't you abandoned?"
"I-I was," I said. "I was found and brought to her and she has been raising me ever since. My brothers only came along a couple of years ago."
"And who exactly is your mother," asked Snape, dryly, sounding bored.
Shrugging, I said "Moro the Wolf Goddess."
