Wolf Princess Chapter 12

This seemed to catch a lot of people off guard in the room.

Dumbledore said "May I ask why?"

Shrugging, I said "Curiosity. I want to find out the source of my origins and…" I hesitated to speak the words that were hanging on a thread in my mouth. At a slight nod from the Headmaster I finished what I had begun to say. "Also, I want to know the reason why I was left alone in the forest? Why I had been given up and abandoned."

"You're request is unusual, but not impossible," said Dumbledore.

I stood a bit straighter at Dumbledore's declaration.

"So, you're saying that there is a way," I said, hopeful.

Dumbledore and the other Professors looked to Professor Snape.

Clearing his throat, shifting from foot to foot, Snape said "There is one. It is a simple potion. It'll take a bit of time to make it so you'll have a certain amount of time to wait before you will be able to learn the results. There is something from you that will be required for this potion to work."

Tilting my head, I asked "How much of my blood would you need?"

"Not much," answered Snape, "just a few drops."

I bent down, taking my knife from its sheath on my leg.

"Do you have anything with you I can place it in," I said.

Snape reached inside his robes and pulled out a small vile that he had with him in one of his pockets. He came toward me as I took my knife up to my hand. I made a little cut in my palm. As blood began to flow from the cut I held it over the vile. A number of drops fell into it. When about a third of it was filled up Snape removed the vile out from under my hand. He then placed it inside of his robes.

"Would you like us to heal that for you," said Professor Sprout, kindly.

"I thank you for your offer. There's no need for that. It's only a small cut and I heal rather fast," I said.

Professor McGonagall said "Nevertheless this would be far me efficient." She took out her wand, coming towards me. "Hold our your hand."

Intrigued, I did what I was told and held out my hand to her. McGonagall gave my palm a light tap with her wand. An amazing thing occurred. My eyes widened in surprise as the cut healed before my very eyes. There was no trace left like it wasn't even there at all.

I brought my hand up to my face, examining it in astonishment.

"Impressive," I said.

I knelt down onto the floor digging into my pack.

"I don't know if it will help," I said, pulling out my baby blanket, "but this might help you out in finding out about my birth family."

I stood offering it to them.

Accepting the blanket, Snape sniffed "And how exactly is something like this going to help?"

Shrugging, I said "I just thought it would be because it was what I was wrapped in when I was found in the forest. There are symbols on it that I think might hold a clue."

Snape turned the blanket over in his hands until he located the symbols I just pointed out.

"A.M," said Snape, thoughtfully. "There are some initials sewn onto the fabric here."

"Remus thinks they might represent my human name," I said. "Or at least lead to where I come from."

"That might very well be true," said Dumbledore, stroking his beard. "We'll be looking into it."

I gave the Headmaster a nod of appreciation. Remus and I then exited the office together.

Once the two of us left Dumbledore turned to the others, saying "Well?"

McGonagall said "She seems like nice enough young woman. A lot of work is going to have to be done to get the child civilized."

Professor Sprout said "I agree, but I think she'll adapt well as soon as she learns of what our world is all about and our customs."

Professor Flitwick looked over at Professor Snape. He was standing quietly away from everyone else. "You've been quiet, Severus," he said. "Is there something on your mind?"

Severus broke his gaze away from the initials on the blanket.

"There's something about that girl. She seems familiar to me, somehow," said Snape.

"Are you saying you've met her before now," asked Professor McGonagall.

Shaking his head, Severus said "No, but…"

At first none of them could figure out what their colleague was getting at.

Sprout was the one to figure it out first.

She said "You know who her parents are."

"I have a slight suspicion, but I'll have to wait until the potion is done to see if its correct," said Snape.

Nodding, Dumbledore said "Right when the potion is complete we'll see where it goes from there. In the mean time I believe we all have other duties to perform, at the moment. Miss Numa will be introduced to the rest of the staff as they arrive in at least a few days."

All of them nodded to the Headmaster and left the office. Dumbledore leaned back in his chair, clasping his hands together in front of his face. He bore an unreadable look.

After a few minutes of deep thinking things over Dumbledore faced his familiar. Fawkes is gazing at him, too.

"Well, My Friend," murmured Dumbledore. "This looks like it's going to be an interesting year."

In response Fawkes released a small trill, beginning to groom the feathers on his breast.

Amused, Dumbledore chuckled "I'm glad you think so, also, My Friend."
