Here is Chapter 12 of the Spectacular Spider-man. Will's trip to Central City ends up taking a little bit longer as he and the Flash encountered a metahuman who can control electricity. And if Dr. Wells is right then they also had two other elemental metahumans to handle. Guess the team up continues but don't worry, Nothing the Scarlet Speedster and the Spectacular Spider-man can't handle. Team-up time. Enjoy!
The Spectacular Spider-man: The Wise-cracking Web head and the Scarlet Speedster Part 2
February 2015-Central City
Will was with the girls at Hudson University for the regional qualifiers Swim meet. There were other schools in attendance and the top three winners would secure their attendance at the national finals in March. It was a big deal and drew a lot of spectators from the schools competing along with some televised publicity. Spencer, Aria, and Maya had taken their seats in the stands while Will was getting some photos with his camera. The captain, coach, and members of the swim team were all together and Will took a few photos and would later send them to the university.
"All right, one more." Will snapped another quick photo. "That should be good."
"Thanks again." The coach thanked him.
"No problem." He replied as the team hyped themselves up and made sure that any last minute details were taken care of. Emily walked over with her swim jacket and swim cap on. "You pumped?"
"Yeah. How's it looking out there?" Emily wondered.
"Rumors and bets being taken, of course. From what I heard everyone seems a little unsure about the winners although I've heard Hudson proclaim they plan to sweep all the medals." Will pointed out.
"Naturally." Emily replied.
"But I have it on good authority that word around the NCAA reporters that SCU is gonna win the woman's 200 meter freestyle thanks to one Emily Fields, the Dolphin of Starling." He assured her.
"And would the word have gotten to the reporters from a friendly neighborhood photographer from SCU?" Emily wondered.
"I will neither confirm nor deny that." Will replied. "Seriously though your reputation and wins have given you some street cred. I've heard that a lot of the sports analysis put you as the one to beat in the 200 meter freestyle. So, just do what you do best and know that we'll be watching."
"Thanks." Emily and Will shared a quick hug before he walked out into the pool to see everyone getting ready. The stands were filled with spectators from the universities participating while sports media commentators and cameramen were making the final touches with their set ups. Will snapped a few photos before he made his way through the sea of people and up to the stands where Aria, Spencer, and Maya saved him a seat.
"How's she doing?" Maya wondered.
"She's good. She's got this." Will assured her. More people began to take their seats and the officials removed everyone non-essential from the pool area which meant that things would be starting soon.
The announcers and commentators took their seats as did everyone else and soon enough the competition started. The schools were brought out one by one with applause and cheers from their sections. When SCU team came out Will and the girls were their loudest cheerers. He snapped a few more photos as the various members of the swim teams took their positions for the different races and groups. Men's 100 meter, men's 200 meter, men's relay and then came Emily's turn. The other girls on the team competed in the Women's 100 and relay but Emily was their lead for the Women's 200. She was the fastest on the team with the most endurance so she was their ace to win.
"Let's go Emily!" Maya shouted and Spencer, Aria, and Will cheered as did the other SCU fans and teammates.
Emily saw them in the stands and gave them a wave before slipping a loose hair into her swim cap. She put on her goggles and got onto the platform as the other competitors took their places. "Swimmers take your mark!" The referee announced and they did, getting into the position and taking their stances. "Get set!"
[Starter gun gunshot]
Emily and the other swimmers dove off their platforms into the pool. They started off in 50 meters of butterfly stroke then after touching the wall they would move into 50 meters of backstroke, touch the wall again and then 50 meters breaststroke, and the finished the last 50 meters in freestyle. It was a harsh swim race and one where the swimmer had to be careful not to overexert themselves too early. Emily was neck and neck with two other swimmers during the first 100 meters of the race and it wasn't clear who was going to win.
"Let's go, Emily! You got this!" Will shouted as the girls cheered with him.
Emily flipped in the water and kicked off the wall to start the 50 meter breaststroke. She and two other swimmers were still tied but then she began to edge into the lead. No more than a few feet of a lead but everyone began to see that Emily was now the one to beat.
"GO, BABY!" Maya shouted at the top of her lungs as Emily and the other swimmers started the last 50 meters in freestyle stroke. The two swimmers close behind began to pick up pace little by little but Emily wasn't giving up. It was down to the wire and they were meters from the final touch with Emily edging out for the win. "YES!"
"WOO!"
Will and the others shouted as the alarm went off and everyone cheered. "And SCU takes the woman's 200 meter with swimmer Emily Fields making a new regional record!" The commentators announced.
Emily was hanging onto the side of the pool and removed her goggles and swim cap before looking at the monitor to see she was the winner. The camera pushed in on her face to show the big smile she had as she waved at everyone and cheered. Her teammates and coach came over and congratulated her.
"That's our girl!" Aria shouted, giving Will a big kiss on the cheek before shouting at the top of her lungs with Maya.
"She's got this and now all that's left is the national finals in March." Will snapped a few shots of Emily emerging from the pool with her team congratulating her.
"And she'll win then too! Wooo! Emily!" Maya shouted and Emily looked at up her and the others and waved.
The swim meet ended after the next match but SCU was going to the National Finals in Women's 200 meter, the men's 100 meter freestyle and the men's 4 x 100meter relay. Will, Maya, Aria, and Spencer waited outside the gym while the swim team showered off and got dressed. They would take the shuttle back to the hotel and then he and the girls would go to a restaurant to celebrate before meeting with the rest of the team to catch the train back to Star City. But Will would be staying in the city a bit longer to help capture Electro.
He snapped a few extra photos with his camera of the girls and they kept it playful and funny with poses and goofs. Will even got in as Maya took a photo of Will with Aria and Spencer sitting on his shoulders. "Oh, that's so cute." Maya said before Will playfully dropped them off his shoulder but then caught them.
"Ass." Spencer smacked him on the head and he chuckled before giving Aria a kiss on the head.
"Come on, it was warranted." Will joked as Maya handed him his camera.
"It's a nice camera and all, Will but don't you think it's a little old?" Maya pointed out.
"I prefer the term classic." He corrected her and she playfully backed off. "No, my dad gave me this camera and I used it all the time in middle school and high school. And after Aria got it refurbished for me, I've gotten back into my love of photography. Besides, digitals pictures are great and all but nothing beats old school film."
"Ok, Andy Warhol." Spencer joked.
"Ha-Ha." Will mocked and the girls chuckled before Aria gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Soon enough the players from the various schools came out of the gym/swimming building. The SCU team came out to some applause from the fans, spectators, SCU students who came to watch along with any parents who were able to make it. Maya rushed over into Emily's arms and the two lovebirds embraced and kissed to the cheers of everyone. Will snapped a few more photos of the team before they got on the shuttle and headed back to the hotel.
Will, Aria, Spencer, and Maya walked into the hotel room they were sharing while in Central City. Will was kicked out into the living room while the girls took the bedroom to get ready as well as pack their things. That was fine as he quickly changed into a button-up and sport's jacket but put on his new Spider-man suit underneath which was technically not new as it was his regular suit but with a modification. After his and Barry's first encounter with Electro, Cisco upgraded the fabric with some insulated material to protect him and gave him some new web shooters with an upgraded capacitor conductor so they wouldn't overload like last time. Granted they hadn't really been tested so if he ran into Electro then they'd get a field test.
After their initial encounter with Electro, Barry told Joe what happened and gave him the good news and the bad news. Shawna Baez or as Caitlin playfully dubbed her, Peak-a-boo, was secure in the STAR labs pipeline while her boyfriend was returned to Iron Heights with three more years added to his sentence. That was the good news. The bad news was that Electro escaped with the money Shawna and her boyfriend were stealing. And there was the possibility of him working with two other metahumans. So, suffice to say that things were a little tense but Joe was able to get the photo of Electro's face so the CCPD were now looking into him.
STAR Labs
Cisco and Dr. Wells were working on something in the lab while Caitlin was using the computers to run some simulations on Max Dillon AKA Electro to get a possible readout of his powers, limits, and a weakness they could exploit. Barry walked into the cortex after he finished his work at CCPD. "Hey, Barry." Caitlin smiled as he walked in.
"Hey. So, Joe and the CCPD are looking into Max Dillon and the other crimes he has committed. The officers he zapped are ok but so far nothing. When he left the area all the traffic cameras fritz out and they couldn't track him down." Barry informed her.
"Makes sense. I've been going over Max Dillon's powers using the information from your suit as well as Will's HUD and its impressive." Caitlin brought up the scans that came from Will's suit when they encountered Electro. Other then the electricity the suit picked up an unusual magnetic field around Dillon's body.
"What is that?" Barry wondered.
"We believe that is the cause of his power." Dr. Wells said as he and Cisco entered the Cortex. "I've done some analysis into Mr. Dillon's origins and combined that with the data we recorded from Mr. Detmer's suit. It seems that the dark matter wave that caused the high-tension power lines to go off and electrocute him didn't kill him because it affected the power cables he had on him. Now his body somehow possesses a unique configured magnetic field which grants him the power to generate electricity."
"Which makes sense. Moving magnetic fields can pull and push electrons so Dillon must be able to somehow change the magnetic field subconsciously around his body and turn it into an electromagnetic field and generate electricity. Explains how he was able to do what we saw him do." Barry pointed out.
"Which makes him much more dangerous than Farooq Gibran as he doesn't appear to need electricity for sustenance." Dr. Wells said. "Finding Mr. Dillon is a top priority. He could cause a lot of damage and hurt a lot of people."
"And it's not like his powers make it easy to take him in. If any regular person had been hit by his electricity they'd be in the hospital. It's only because of the material your suits are made of that you and Will are fine. That and your healing factors." Cisco pointed before taking a seat at the computer and bringing up STAR labs satellite along with the readings of the city's electrical grid. "But his unique powers will make him much easier to track down. Given how much electricity he was able to use during your fight and how you said all the cameras in the area fritz, he's putting out some serious juice."
"The next time he uses his powers we can pick up the electrical disturbances and power fluctuations in the city and use that to track his location." Dr. Wells finished. "We'll let you and Mr. Detmer know the second we get a location on Mr. Dillon."
"Sure. Where is Will?" Barry wondered.
"He's with his friends. One of them had a swim meet at Hudson University so they're going out to dinner tonight. He said if something came up to give him a call." Caitlin told him and Barry nodded.
"How about that? Even Spider-man has more of a social life then you do, Caitlin." Cisco pointed out which just earned him a icy-death glare. "I'm gonna go."
Cisco stepped out of the room just as Caitlin and Barry had a conversation about the lack of their social lives. Both were in their 20s yet other then work and Team Flash stuff they were boring.
Elsewhere in the city in one of the many abandoned warehouses by the water, the metahuman that Team Flash and Spider-man encountered was sitting in a very nice, comfy and expensive chair at an equally expensive table. On the table were bags of money, diamonds and some expensive goods and treats. The money Dillon and his compatriots made in their robberies was used to turn their warehouse in a very nice living space. Dillon was currently using a brand new laptop to look up footage of Spider-man. He was wearing black boots, camo green-colored jeans, a yellow t-shirt, and a dark green and black jacket. After his fight he wanted to know more about the Star city superhero and was looking at news footage along with amateur video recordings of him in action. He wasn't sure what it was but fighting the hero, kicking his ass, and then escaping as the victor was exhilarating. Max's body was already coursing with electricity but taking out Spider-man and the Flash just kicked it into overdrive like an adrenaline high. (1)
He heard the screech and groan of a metal shutter door open and close before in walked Mark Rakton, the fiery elemental of the group. He was wearing some brand new brown boots, black jeans, a red t-shirt, and a brand new leather jacket. (2) "New jacket?" Dillon asked him.
"Figured I'd treat myself. And those dye packs and marked bills are burnt to a crisp." Mark held up his right hand and it glowed red. "Where's Morrie?"
"He went out to find us another score." Dillon replied when they heard the rustle of water nearby. A stream of water flowed over to them and pooled together before it reformed and Morrie appeared in the room wearing boots, blue jeans, and a blue t-shirt. (3) "Speak of the devil."
"Sorry it took so long. Moving that far took a lot out of me." Morrie said, taking a few deep breaths before holding out his right arm. His limb morphed into water which stretched out to the wall where a water pipe was. He broke it open and began absorbing the water to rejuvenate his body and his fatigue. "Ah…better. Anyway, I think I found something perfect for us to not only make more money but get the message to the city about us better then Snart's little video threat. You two familiar with Marcus Stockheimer?"
"No." Mark and Max shook their heads.
"He's a mid-level player who controls a bunch of rackets on the south side of Central City. I managed to follow one of his men to the warehouse that Stockheimer uses as a front and where he keeps a majority of his money. And it's not just cash but jewels, art, and a whole bunch of other stuff. It'll be our biggest payday yet. I'm thinking that we head there and clean house. Stockheimer's got some muscle but compared to what we can do his goons are nothing." Morrie told them.
"We get paid and word spreads that there are some new rogues in this city." Dillon's eyes sparked with electricity. "I like it."
"And what if the police try to stop us? Or Spider-man and Flash?" Mark wondered only for Max to blast a hole through his laptop, giving him his answer.
"This city's gonna be in for a big show." Dillon smirked.

With Will…
Will and the girls were at a restaurant to celebrate SCU's victory at the swim meet and for Emily winning in her own race which ended up with her breaking a regional record. He called Barry and the others at STAR labs with an update on Electro. They still had their feelers out and were working on a way to track him down but nothing so far. They'd let him know if something came up. He also learned that Barry was going out to a club with Cailtin to fix their lack of social life so that would be fun.
Will and his friends got a table for five at a nice Italian restaurant and thankfully between Will's job at Palmer Tech and Spencer's family credit card they could split the meal. And after the awesome job Emily did at the swim meet she earned a dinner of carbs and cheese. It was just a good time to relax.
Some waiters came by to take their entrée plates which were all empty before their server came over. "How was everything tonight?" He asked and got all positive reviews from the table. "Are we thinking about desert tonight?"
"Just some coffee please." Emily told him.
"No, no, Em. This is a celebration and you earned it. We'll have some vanilla and chocolate Panna Cotta, your pistachio Gelato, and our swim meet winner will have the Tiramisu. And some coffee and biscotti for everyone." Will ordered and the server nodded before leaving.
"Will, we ate too much and now you want to add on desert?" Emily asked him.
"Hey, we're celebrating. You won your meet and broke a new record so we celebrate. Beside you love Tiramisu." He pointed out. "And I saw a lot of things on the desert menu that I wanted to try so I ordered them. We celebrate tonight and worry about the consequences tomorrow."
"I'm ok with that. The pistachio gelato does sound good." Maya added.
"See, Maya gets it. She's my new favorite." Will stated and the two high-fived. Aria just gave him a glare before he kissed her on the head. "You're my second favorite."
"You are so lucky I'm full." She warned him.
"When we get back on campus we can work off the carbs, cheese, and sugar but first you guys shall sleep it off on the train back to Star city." He assured her.
"You're not coming back with us, Will?" Maya asked.
"No, uh…Dr. Connors got in touch with someone at Palmer Tech who got in touch with Dr. Wells at STAR labs. He offered me a visit of the building and to sit with me and impart all the wisdom he has which is too good of an opportunity to pass us. I'll get a train back when I'm done." Will told her.
Elsewhere in the city…
At a warehouse by the train tracks belonging to a front owned by Marcus Stockheimer, he and his men were sorting through the latest merchandise they got. Mainly drugs and weapons which would earn them a nice payday. They were moving the items into boxes for distribution when the lights in the warehouse began to flicker. That's when they heard the crack of electricity and soon enough three of Stockheimer's men were thrown across the room and crashed into some wooden pallets. They were all unconscious with sparks of electricity coursing around their body.
"That's a lot of guns and drugs fellas." They heard and in walked Max Dillon without a care in the world or any fear at the guns pointed at him. "Lucky for you I'm not interested in guns but that money on the table…"
"You've got some nerve coming here, punk!" Marcus Stockheimer pulled out his pistol and aimed it only for Dillon to fire a small bolt of electricity from the palm of his hand. It zapped the gun and knocked it out of Stockheimer's hand and giving him an electrical burn. He looked back and saw the barrel of his gun had a smoking hole through the side. "Holy crap. You're one of those freaks."
Dillon just glared and electricity sparked around his boy before he fired a beam of electricity from his hand which hit one of Marcus's men. Said current of electricity ricocheted off him and then hit another goon, then another, then another and then all of Marcus's men were hit. They were all electrocuted before they dropped to the ground either dead or unconscious. "I'm not a fan of that word. Now, if you were smart you'd walk away while you still have a chance."
"Hey, maybe we can work out a new arrangement." Stockheimer suggested visibly scared for his life as it was just him alone against a metahuman. "Take the money but think of it as a signing bonus. Come work for me. With what I know and what you can do, I can make you a lot of money."
Dillon just fired a burst of electricity at three metal rebar poles and flung them at Stockheimer. He struggled to get free but the metal poles had him pinned to a wall. "I've already got partners so why do I need you?"
Before Stockheimer could make another bargain or plea for his life the doors to the warehouse were blown open with breaching charges and flashbangs were thrown in. The bright lights and concussive noise staggered Stockheimer and Dillon before CCPD SWAT teams and officers came in tactical formation with their guns ready.
"CCPD, put your hands up and get down on the ground, now!" An officer shouted as they swarmed into the warehouse. They saw Stockheimer pinned to a wall via rebar poles, his men on the ground either dead or unconscious and one stranger who stood out from the rest. "Put your hands up and get down on the ground!"
Dillon turned around so the officers could see him and the odd burn mark on his face but also noticed he didn't look afraid. He raised his hands up and just smiled as his eyes and body began to spark with electricity. As that happened the flashlights on the police weapons dimmed along with the lights in the warehouse and their cellphones and radios began to garble and short-circuit. "Time for the show."
Back with Will…
Will had just finished seeing the girls off at the train station and was now walking down the street with his backpack and duffle bag to head to STAR labs. Dr. Wells was still there and he offered to let him stay in the building until they caught Electro which was nice and so Will didn't have to splurge at another hotel. He had money now but he didn't want to waste it. He stopped at a corner and waved for a cab when his spider-sense began to go off. It was a slight tingle alerting him that there was something going on. He wasn't in immediate danger but clearly something was up. That's when he saw the street lights begin to flicker like there was a power issue so he pulled out his phone and called STAR labs.
"Hello?" Dr. Wells answered.
"Dr. Wells I think Max Dillon is using his powers. My spider-sense is going off and there's a whole lot of power fluctuating." Will told him.
Dr. Wells made his way over to the computers at the cortex and checked the system to see that there was a serious power fluctuation going on around the city but the biggest source was at a warehouse by the tracks a dozen blocks south of his position.
"It looks like you're right. I'm picking up the biggest concentration of this electrical disturbance 12 blocks south. That must be where Mr. Dillon is."
"I'm on my way but I wouldn't mind some backup." Will rushed into a nearby alleyway and once he did a double-check to make sure there was no one around he super jumped onto the roof of the building.
"I'll call Barry and have him meet you there."
"Got it." Will quickly removed his clothes revealing his suit underneath, pulled out his mask and web shooters from his backpack and began swinging south as fast as he could.
At the warehouse…
The backup officers and SWAT team set up a perimeter around the warehouse incase anyone tried to escape or something went wrong. There were several police squad cars spread out with some officers in overwatch positions and they brought in a helicopter for an aerial view. Taking down Marcus Stockheimer was a big deal and who knows what they would find in his warehouse. The tactical team had made their entrance and there weren't any gunshots which was a good thing but they were responding to their radios either.
"Sergeant Diaz, come in." Detective Joe West radioed in. He and his partner Eddie Thawne were taking cover behind their car parked next to other cop cars and officers in their position. "Sergeant Diaz, report. Any sign of the target?"
"Something doesn't feel right." Eddie told him and Joe nodded.
"Sergeant Diaz—" Joe stopped when his radio began to get a weird interference. "What the hell?"
Suddenly the front lights on their cars began to dim and the car engine suddenly turned off. Other car engines shut down and even the SWAT vans did before the lights on the street went out along with the searchlight in the helicopter. "What's going on?" Eddie asked when Joe's radio let out a high-pitched screech.
"Fa…back! Ge—RFU—Out—" The message was garbled and heavy with interference but sounded panicked. That's when they saw the officers and SWAT team members rushing out of the warehouse as fast as they could.
"Hold your fire!" Joe told everyone when they saw a bolt of electricity come out of the warehouse and hit several of the officers running away. They were knocked through the air and crashed onto the ground. Some officers rushed over to help and bring them to cover when Max Dillon stepped out of the warehouse. "Hey, you! CCPD! Freeze!"
Joe, Eddie, and the other officers raised their guns at him but Dillon just chuckled and fired twin beams of electricity from his hands that hit a SWAT van. Said van flipped through the air and crashed onto its roof. "Oh great. Another one." Joe remarked.
"Fire!" Eddie shouted and the officers opened fire at Dillon but their bullets didn't do anything. Dillon powers generated an electrical field around his body that melted the bullets before they could touch him. Seeing their new metahuman was still alive and their bullets weren't doing anything some of the SWAT officers launched teargas grenades. The cannisters landed around Dillon and the smoke made his cough a bit but soon enough his electrical field made the metal cannisters spin around very fast. Then the cannisters began to float into the air and Dillon spread his arms out to release an electrical shockwave. It knocked back all the police officers and sent their cars flying. Some landed back on the ground while others were thrown far enough to crash into the side of buildings, light poles, or other cars on the street.
Eddie and Joe saw a car flying through the air towards them and scrambled away when Spider-man zipped forward and caught the car. He used his arms and shoulders to hold up the weight so it didn't crush him or them. The car was upside so he was holding it up by its roof. "I'm glad you guys aren't cops who ride horses." He pointed out before pushing the car off him and it landed back on the ground on its tires.
"All units, stand down! Hold your fire!" Joe radioed in as Spider-man jumped up and perched himself on the roof of the cop car.
"Yo, sparkles! How's it going?" Spider-man called out and Dillon turned to see him. "Remember me?"
"I remember you. You should have left for Star City, Spider-man." Dillon told him.
"I can't. They'd take my superhero license away. Besides, I can't exactly just leave after how we left things off." Spider-man pointed out. "Now, how about we make this easy. You stop with the sparkle fingers, you give yourself up to the police, and we don't have to make things worse."
"And where's the fun in that?" Dillon asked as he began to draw in more power. Spider-man and the others noticed more of the lights dim down the street and there was a certain buzz in the air. "I've seen you in action, Spider-man. You're good but not like me."
Dillon fired a bolt of electricity at him but Spider-man flipped over it and fired several web bullets. They struck Dillon in the face and left him open to a web zip kick to the chest. Dillon tumbled on the ground but quickly fired more blasts of electricity only for Spider-man to dodge gracefully by jumping and zipping around. He did five back handsprings in a row before backflipping into a tuck to avoid getting zapped. Dillon got back to his feet and threw an electrical ball at Spider-man but missed as Spider-man did a 720 spin to the side. Spider-man fired a web at Dillon's face to obscure his vision when the Flash came from behind with a speed tackle. Dillon hit the ground and Spider-man threw a grenade to tie him up.
"You say you're better then me? I'm not really seeing it. It's over, sparkles. Your little crime spree is over." Spider-man told him as the Flash appeared next to him.
"We know you don't work alone. Where are your partners?" Flash asked but didn't get an answer.
Instead of seeing a look of anger or defeat, all the two heroes saw on Dillon's face was a smirk and the spark of electricity in his eyes. Spider-man felt his spider-sense go off like crazy but before he could jump out of the way of whatever was coming he couldn't. They heard the sound of rushing water and all of a sudden 2ft of water had their legs trapped. Spider-man couldn't jump and the Flash didn't have the footing to run. The water came out of nowhere followed by a giant fireball that knocked Spider-man into the Flash and sent them crashing into a cop car.
"Damn…" Spider-man groaned in pain as he rolled himself off of Flash who wasn't doing much better. He got up on one knee and felt the radiant heat from the fireball which singed his suit but the material was tough so nothing was seriously burned or destroyed. If it had been his old suit then he likely would have a hole in the side.
Spider-man, Flash, Joe, and the other cops saw the water pull itself together and morph into a man wearing jeans and a blue shirt while a faint red glow lit up part of the area. The glow came from a man wearing a red shirt. Granted they couldn't really be sure of the color because the man's skin was glowing a bright red like he was on fire. The man grabbed the webbing holding Dillon and ripped it off allowing him to join his partners. "You've got your friends, web head and I've got mine!"
"Oh, that's not good." Spider-man muttered.
"No, it's not." The Flash replied when the water powered metahuman turned his arms into giant water fists and extended them out to hit them. The Flash super sped away while Spider-man web zipped into the air. The fire powered metahuman conjured up fireballs before throwing them at the two heroes. Spider-man swung through the air and tucked into a roll to avoid the fireballs but then was hit by a bolt of electricity which knocked him into a light pole.
"Oh, that hurts." Spider-man picked himself up and quicky backflipped to avoid getting grabbed from behind by the fire meta only to be blasted by water mid-flip. It knocked him into the fire meta who put him in a bear hug. "ARGH!"
The Flash rushed over to help him but the water meta summoned some water on the ground to trip him up before Dillon blasted him into the SWAT van with electricity. "Come on, Flash. Is that the best you got?!" Dillon raised his arms up and released huge bursts of electricity from his body turning the area around him into a large electrical field. The speedster raced around to avoid getting hit while the cops moved further back for more cover.
"What's the matter, Spider-man? Can't take the heat?!" The fire meta shouted, tightening his squeeze around the hero. Spider-man felt a lot of pain and tried to push off but the fire meta's skin was too hot. He then headbutted Spider-man and kicked him in the chest with enough strength that he was knocked into the side of a building. Given how he was able to hold him in that bear hug and the force of the kick, the fire Meta had fire powers and super strength. "You know, I was expecting more from you after what we've heard."
"Yeah, well at least my powers don't make me look like a walking night light." Spider-man pointed out. The meta growled and threw a fireball at him but Spider-man ducked it with ease. "And clearly your powers didn't come with some super accuracy."
"You think you can mess with Molten Man!" He shouted in anger before charging straight at him. Spider-man waited until the last second before web zipping up into the air and swinging around a light pole to kick him into the building.
"Clearly you're not the smart one of the group." Spider-man pointed out when his spider-sense tingled so he web zipped up to avoid a water blast. "Sorry dude but there's a strict no surfing rule here."
He shot webbing at the water meta but they went right through the water Meta's body. "Pathetic. You don't think you can match the power of Hydro-man, do you?"
Spider-man swung forward to kick him but ended up going through him just like his webbing did. He distorted his figure but Hydro-man pulled himself back together. "Ugh, gross." Spider-man spit the water out of his mouth. "Did you say Hydrant-man? The dogs must love you."
"It's Hydro-man. And it's the last name you'll ever hear." Hydro-man told him before turning one of his hands into a water sword and the other into a water axe. He slashed, thrusts, and swiped with his weapons but Spider-man was too fast for him to hit. Spider-man jumped over an axe swing at his legs and kicked Hydro-man in the head but his leg went through and his head reformed. "You can't take me down, Spider-man!"
Spider-man stayed on the defensive and backflipped to get some distance. "Dr. Wells, any suggestions on how to take these guys down?"
"I'm working on it."
Hydro-man raised his arms and the nearby fire hydrant exploded before a giant wave came down at him.
"You might want to work a little faster!" Spider-man ran and shot a web to swing away. Hydro-man controlled the water and made it chase Spider-man when he saw Flash still having trouble with Electro. Due to the electrical field around him he couldn't get close but maybe something else could. "Let's see what happens to Electro when he gets wet."
Spider-man took a left and swung past Electro. As he did he fired a web at Flash and pulled him away. Electro turned to zap the bug but saw the wave come by so he dove to the side to avoid getting drenched. While he did avoid getting soaked completely through some water splashed on him which caused the electricity field around him to fluctuate. "Morrie, watch it!" Dillon shouted in anger.
"Sorry, I was trying to get Spider-man!"
Spider-man saw Electro's electrical field wasn't as strong as before so like regular electricity he could short circuit with water. That's when he saw Molten man walked out of the building and got another idea. "Let's see if fire beats water in this situation. Barry, think you can get Hydrant-man over there to follow you and get me a clean shot?" He asked him.
"Got it." The Flash super sped away while Spider-man swung down and fired some web bullets at Molten man. They were just an annoyance and burned off against his skin.
"Come on, Lava head. You still in this fight or not?" Spider-man motioned him to come at him so Molten-man made more fireballs before throwing them. Spider-man just jumped around while the Flash sped around Electro and Hydro-man.
"We still fighting?" He asked and super sped away to dodge Electro's blast before he appeared by Hydro-man. "You missed me."
Hydro-man blasted him but missed. The Flash sped around the area and stand in place long enough for them to see him but then speed away to avoid getting hit. "You guys aren't really good at this." Flash said before speeding away and reappearing. He was keeping them occupied while also making them angry. "I'm right here."
"Stand still!" Hydro-man shouted, shooting a water blast but missed yet again.
"Oh, so close." Flash joked and Hydro-man just got angrier as he and Electro kept trying to blast him.
Spider-man jumped, ducked, flipped, and spun around Molten man's fireballs and saw Flash had Electro and Hydro-man occupied. "Come on, there bright light. You really aren't doing a good job. It's a wonder the police haven't caught you and your two idiots yet."
"Shut up!" Molten man shouted in frustration as the web heads taunting was really getting on his nerves.
"I mean, come on. You've had plenty of shots at me all night and I'm still standing." Spider-man quipped before flipping off a light pole to avoid a fireball and landing on the ground. "I bet you couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from this distance."
"That's a sucker's bet!" Molten man made another fireball and threw it at the hero. Spider-man waited until the last second and jumped over it. The fireball kept going and hit Hydro-man in the back, causing him to scream in pain. "Crap!"
Hydro-man fell to his knees in pain with a large chunk missing from his back, evaporated by Molten man's fireball. His body was steaming like water that got too hot and he was visibly sweating before his back slowly reformed. Spider-man dodged another fireball and web zipped to Molten man, kicking him in the face before flipping away to avoid getting grabbed. Electro saw his friend in pain and realized the heroes were going to get them to take each other out so they had to regroup. They needed a distraction and thankfully the police helicopter was still in the air. "Guess we'll pick this up another time, web head. But before we go, here's a little parting gift!"
Electro fired a bolt at the helicopter causing the controls to go haywire before spinning out to the ground. "Oh, crap!" Spider-man and Flash rushed over to deal with the falling helicopter while the metahuman villains made their escape.
The helicopter was too low to the ground so they didn't have enough time to stop it from crashing. They just had to make sure no one got hurt. Flash sped around the area and got the police and any bystanders out of the path of the falling helicopter while Spider-man swung over and stuck to the side. He yanked off the door and looked inside to see the pilot and co-pilot. "Time to abandon ship."
He grabbed them and fired a web line to swing away from the helicopter just before it crashed. Thankfully, it managed to crash land on the street and the Flash got everyone out of the way so no one was hurt. Spider-man swung down and put the pilot and co-pilot back on the ground.
"Thank you, Spider-man." The pilot and co-pilot thanked him.
"Don't mention it." He replied as the nearby bystanders and officers cheered. No one was hurt and things were over as Flash super sped next to him. "The bad guys?"
"Gone. I looked for them but they're not here." Flash told him.
"Great. Just great." Spider-man muttered before firing a web to swing away while the Flash ran. CCPD backup and paramedics arrived to treat the seriously injured and thankfully there weren't any serious injuries. There was a bit of a win as police were able to take Marcus Stockheimer into custody but Electro, Molten Man and Hydro-man were gone.
STAR Labs…
Barry and Will regrouped at STAR labs cortex after the fight. They were a little banged up and thankfully with Dr. Wells he could assist them with any injuries they had but it was nothing major. Barry put his Flash suit back on the mannequin before helping Will in the med lab. Will just finished putting on some topical antiseptic and burn lotion on his sides from where Molten man bearhugged him. While his suit was able to take the hit of the fireball, the direct heat and pressure from the bearhug was enough to burn him through the suit.
Will winced in pain as Barry tightened up the gauze. "How's it feel?" He wondered.
"Stinging pain but I can live with it." Will replied. When Barry was done Will slipped on a STAR labs sweatshirt and took a Tylenol for the pain. It wasn't too severe but was a constant, annoying stinging. "Although now I smell like bacon."
"A compromise we can live with given the situation." Dr. Wells said as he entered the med lab. "Are you sure you're all right, Mr. Detmer?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. First time I've been badly burned but I've been hurt worse then this." He assured them. "I got pancaked into a building by a car."
"That had to hurt." Barry pointed out.
"It did but I saved officers from being killed. Some rest and I'll be back to normal." Will said, rolling up the sleeves of the sweater before he walked out and saw his suit on a table in need of repairs. It was tough but there were some significant burns on the sides from where Molten man grabbed him. "So, guess our hunch on Electro's friends was right."
"It was and we have two new advisories to deal with, each with an impressive powerset." Dr. Wells stated. He, Barry, and Will moved over to the computers where he had connected Will's Spider-man mask to the computers and was analyzing the data it recorded during the fight. Dr. Wells brought up three stilled imaged of the bad guys. They knew Max Dillon but now had two more to identify. "Mr. Dillon is not just a lone robber but from what I was able to see during the confrontation appears to be the leader. And he and his friends have a good understanding of their powers."
"I know what I can do seems impossible and Barry even more so but Hydrant-Man was able to literally turn himself into water." Will remembered.
"Hydro-man." Barry corrected him.
"I know what I said." Will pointed out. "I know we're dealing with the unknown with metahumans and I've seen a guy become literal sand but how?"
"That is a good question and we'll get those answers when we find out the identities of our two new metahumans." Dr. Wells ran facial recognition on the stills from Will's HUD and got DMV matches. "Our Hydro-man is a Mr. Morris Bench, former dockhand in Central City until the Particle Accelerator explosion and he was presumed missing. Some juvenile offenses from when he was in high school mainly dealing with small-time thefts but nothing substantial."
Dr. Wells brought up security footage of the docks the night the Particle accelerator went off and they saw Morris Bench working a late night shift with a few other dock workers. He was handling some crates when the dark matter wave hit and a cargo container came loose, knocking him into the water. Bench eventually climbed out of the water but his body was shifting from human form to water and he couldn't control it.
"Something must have happened to him when he hit the water." Will said. "The dark matter wave must have mutated his body to the point where it absorbed the properties of what he was exposed to at the time.
"In this case water. It would seem that Mr. Bench had some trouble controlling his form in the beginning but not anymore." Dr. Wells theorized.
"We saw him turn into water, alter parts of his body and even control nearby sources of it." Barry added as Dr. Wells brought up the footage from Will's HUD that showed Bench controlling water from a nearby fire hydrant.
"Making Mr. Bench a very powerful foe to deal with but he is not the only one." Dr. Wells brought up the still of Molten man along with the scans Will's HUD took and that's when things got interesting. The scans picked up the heat he generated but the source was coming from the unique infrared radiation of his skin. The radiation was unlike any kind of infrared heat radiation and not only that but when Molten Man bearhugged Will, the suit detected some kind of metallic alloy on his skin.
"What kind of reading is that?" Will wondered.
"That is the question regarding the circumstances that gave Mr. Mark Raxton his powers." Dr. Wells brought up his file and his less than illustrious choices in life. "Well Mr. Raxton's life before the Particle Accelerator was interesting. Dropped out of school for a brief stint of fame as the lead guitarist for his band…the Metal Heads."
Dr. Wells brought up a photo from his social media page that showed Mark Raxton playing lead guitar with a band. He was wearing a red leather jacket and his hair was all spikey. Each member had similar styled hair painted a different color with Mark's painted red but given how it looked it was likely a wig. "Yeesh. Didn't anyone tell these guys that hair metal was dead?" Will pointed out.
"Says here the band was kind of a local phenomenon. Played plenty of concerts around Central City and at festivals before interest started to die out. They resorted to playing bars and local clubs. Eventually the band split up." Barry read.
"Afterward Mr. Raxton takes a job working as a janitor for Smythe Technologies." Dr. Wells told them and Will just groaned.
"Something wrong?" Barry wondered.
"Let's just say that I have bad history with Smythe Technologies and I'm not feeling bad that the company was shutdown. Unfortunately, just shutting down the company didn't stop the bad eggs from leaving here and moving to my city." He told them. "I've had to deal with their weapons, tech, and the supervillains and metahumans they've created and armed. It's not fun. Whatever they had in that building has to be the reason Mark turned into Molten man."
"Well, unfortunately since the company was shut down by the FBI there aren't security cameras for me to access." Dr. Wells pointed out.
"CCPD help in the raid on Smythe Technologies and kept a copy of everything. I'll talk to Joe in the morning and see if he can get us the security footage and any files they collected." Barry promised.
"In the meantime, I would suggest getting some rest. You both had a tough night so some sleep and healing is in order. We'll resume working tomorrow to catch our three metahumans." Dr. Wells told them and they nodded. "Mr. Detmer, if you'll follow me. I'll show you where you'll be staying."
"Thank you, Dr. Wells." Will followed him while Barry grabbed his jacket to leave. "Oh, wait. Barry would you mind running over to a rooftop by…um, Sullivan street and 4th avenue. I left my stuff on a roof."
One super speed gust of wind and Barry returned with Will's stuff. "Here you go."
"Thanks." Will grabbed his stuff and bid him goodbye. Rest tonight and then tomorrow catch the bad guys.

STAR Labs
It was 10am and Dr. Caitlin Snow was riding the elevator up to join the others in the cortex. She had on her normal winter jacket and scarf since it was February but she was wearing sunglasses and had a large coffee and bottle of acai juice in her hand. The reason? She was hungover.
When the elevator arrived on level 600 she slowly walked out, unaware that Barry was waiting for her. "Hi." She jumped and saw Barry standing there with his morning cup of coffee.
"So loud…" She groaned and he chuckled.
"Oh, ho. I just wanted to make sure you're ok." Barry told her.
"Let's just say I envy your inability to get drunk. I don't remember much from last night." She told him.
"Yeah, that's probably for the best." Barry pointed out and she nodded. "Summer lovin'…"
"Oh, god. That I do remember." Caitlin groaned and Barry laughed.
"Well, I hope you clear your hangover soon because we've got a lead on Dillon and two new metahumans." Barry said as he and Caitlin walked into the cortex. They saw Dr. Wells staring at Cisco with his arms crossed, looking both angry and disappointed. "What's wrong?"
"Cisco…has something he needs to tell you." Dr. Wells stated.
"Hartley's gone." Cisco told them.
"He escaped from the Pipeline? How is that even possible?" Barry asked.
"I let him out." Cisco said and got a look of shock from Barry but couldn't really see how Caitlin was reacting. "Are you mad? I can't tell with those glasses on."
"I'd like to yell and wave my arms, but I'm afraid I'd throw up." She told him.
"Why? What were you thinking? You know how dangerous he is." Barry reminded him.
"Hartley said he knew what happened to Ronnie."
"I told you to let it go. I didn't want you looking into that for me." Caitlin reminded Cisco.
"I wasn't doing it for you. I…I sealed Ronnie into the accelerator before it blew. He told me to wait two minutes, and I waited, but he didn't come back. And I can't stop thinking, 10, 20 seconds and…Ronnie wouldn't be like he is right now. I've wanted to tell you so many times." Cisco admitted. "I'm so sorry."
"So, you carried that around this whole time?" Caitlin asked him before walking over. "Do you know what Ronnie would say if he was here? He would say you did the right thing. It wasn't your fault. What happened that night wasn't anybody's fault."
Cisco smiled and the two shared a heartfelt hug. "I'm so sorry." He told her again.
"I know." She smiled and there was new feeling ease with the group after this little revelation. "Now, I believe Barry said we have a new lead on Electro."
"That we do. Last night Mr. Dillon made another attempted robbery of a gang leader. Barry and Will got there before he could seriously hurt the police but Mr. Dillon wasn't alone." Dr. Wells told Cisco and Caitlin.
"So, we were right. Electro has some friends." Cisco said and Dr. Wells nodded. He moved over to the computers and brought up the DMV photos of Morris Bench and Mark Raxton.
"Morris Bench and Mark Raxton or as they have called themselves Hydro-man and Molten man." Dr. Wells introduced them and played back some footage of the fight recorded from Will's HUD. That gave Cisco and Caitlin their first look at their powers and they were interested to say the least. Cisco most of all. They saw Hydro-man turn into and control water while Molten-man glowed red, threw fire and was super strong.
"I'm not the biggest fan of the names but they fit so I'll let it slide." Cisco stated.
"How is this possible?" Caitlin questioned.
"Morris Bench worked as a dock worker when the dark matter wave hit and was knocked into the bay. His body fused with the water and created a symbiotic relationship. He not only controls it but can become it." Cisco theorized and Dr. Wells nodded. "Makes a tough villain to fight."
"Especially with paired with two other metahumans who can control electricity and fire." Caitlin added.
"Mr. Dillon can control electricity but the scans from Will's suit show that Mr. Raxton's powers aren't entirely pyrokinetic. We're still not sure on the cause of his powers or exactly what they are. He worked at Smythe Technologies when the Particle accelerator went off so something there must be the catalyst for his powers. Once we know what that is then we'll know more about how to stop him." Dr. Wells theorized.
"I talked to Joe. He's at CCPD getting the Smythe Technology files. He'll be here soon with what he has." Barry said when he noticed they were one short. "Where's Will?"
"Working." Dr. Wells led the trio down the hall into the workshop they dedicated for his Spider-man stuff but it wasn't as neat as it was before. They saw a lot of material scattered around the room in a paradoxically messy yet organized manner. There were some papers that had sketches, calculations, and measurements with the mannequins displaying his unfinished spider suits in the corner. In the center of the room were two mannequins. One was dressed up with his regular suit which had been fixed up after the damage Molten Man had done to it. On the second mannequin wasn't a suit but parts of what looked like silver armor. They were silver metal boots, shin guards, thigh guards, gloves, forearm and arm guards, shoulder pads, a new helmet and chest and back armor with his spider symbol. It was still a work in progress with Will hanging upside from the ceiling via a web and working on the armor with some tools. (4)
"Will?" Caitlin called out and he turned his head to see Dr. Wells, Caitlin, Cisco, and Barry.
"Morning, guys." He gave them an upside down wave before shooting a web at a table to grab another armor plate to attach onto its holder. That's when he looked back and saw Caitlin didn't look good. "Caitlin, are you hungover?"
"No…" She answered but Barry and Cisco shook their heads yes.
"Oh, one of those nights, huh. I wouldn't know. Healing factor makes it so I can't get hungover anymore. Kind of an upside." Will remarked.
"Will, are you feeling ok?" Barry asked as he and the others walked into the workroom.
"Never better. Good nights rest and I'm all healed up." Will untucked his shirt from his pants and it flipped up to showed them that his burns from last night had completely healed. Caitlin blushed a bit because Will had rock solid musculature with a resting 8-pack while Cisco felt a little emasculated.
"So not fair." He muttered as Will put his shirt back in his pants. "What are you doing?"
"Working on something to hopefully even out the fight against our bad guys. My suit wasn't able to take the heat from Molten Man and with him working with Electro and Hydro-man I need to be extra careful. Barry and I managed to survive the fight but next time we're gonna need an edge so making some armor better suited against their attacks seemed like a smart idea. I spoke with Dr. Wells and he said he had some stuff that could help." Will told them.
Cisco walked over and took a look at the papers that had the measurements and calculations for his armor. It wasn't a new suit as that would take too much time so Will was just making armor he would slip onto his regular suit that would add some additional protection. His math considered weight, durability, and resistance to intense heat and electricity.
"I told Will that we had some leftover material from STAR labs satellites that could provide excellent protection against Mark Raxton's abilities and protect him from the heat." Dr. Wells added.
"I took some cobalt chrome alloy and layered it with the aluminum-coated polyimide you used for your satellites to provide heat protection from Molten Man as well as insulation against Electro. A little spare Kelvar padding with Teflon powder coating and the armor was done. I'm just putting it together now." Will explained and it was very well thought out and sound science.
"Sounds like it could work." Barry remarked.
"The Cobalt is good and all but wouldn't a Tungsten alloy have been a better choice for the heat protection. It offers a greater heat resistance than Cobalt." Cisco suggested.
"True and I did consider that but it would add more weight than the cobalt chrome and I need the maneuverability. Next time." Will replied. "The armor will make it so I stand a better chance against Electro and Molten Man but that's not our only ace up the hole. Our little fight last night offered a possible solution to take them down. Using them against one another."
"What do you mean?" Caitlin wondered.
"Surprisingly enough their powers could be use against each other to take them down. Electro shorted out when he got wet and Hydro-man sizzled against Molten man. We keep them off balance and use them against each other and we could take them down next time." Will suggested.
"Yeah but Electro saw that and called a retreat." Barry reminded him.
"That's true. Electro did see that so he would expect it again." Dr. Wells said and Will had to agree. "Still, now that we know about their abilities we can develop ways to counteract and stop them."
"If Hydro-man really is water we could design something to slow him down." Caitlin suggested. "Use his water as a catalyst with other elements to trap or prevent him from using his powers."
"Like a resin that would harden when it comes into contact with his body. Turn Hydro-man into Jell-O man. I like it." Cisco smiled as ideas began to flood into his head.
"With Electro using non-conductors or shorting out his electrical powers could be the way to stop him." Dr. Wells suggested.
"I could make an adjustment to my web formula for that. Trap him and prevent him from using his powers." Will theorized. "But what about Molten man? We still don't know exactly what happened to Mark and exactly what he can do."
"Hello?" They heard and in walked Detective Joe West.
"Hey, Joe." Barry greeted him.
"Hey, I got the security footage and the digital files from Smythe Technologies." Joe held up two flash drives.
"Guess we can find out now." Cisco said so Will let go of the web and landed back on his feet. They uploaded the information from Smythe Technologies into the STAR labs server before bringing up the security logs and camera footage from the night the Particle Accelerator exploded. The security cameras showed a few guards at their posts but the only people inside the actual building and lab were the late-night janitors and cleaning staff. They saw Mark Raxton cleaning the floors in the lab with a mop and bucket while listening to some music. Everything looked like a normal day with the only exception being the stuff in the area he was cleaning. There was high-tech equipment, vats of chemicals, and other sensitive information that Smythe Technologies would never want out in the open if they were still active but they weren't.
"Fast forward the footage to the time the Particle accelerator exploded." Will said and Cisco did. Mark had moved from one lab to another but this one just had some chemical vats. They saw the footage distort and flicker a bit when the Particle Accelerator exploded and the dark matter wave came through the lab. The entire building shook and the force cracked some of the chemical vats causing them to spill onto the ground. Mark stumbled a bit and tried to steady his feet but ended up slipping into the chemicals that spilled onto the floor, soaking him from head to toe. He wiped himself off before leaving to get some help and that was it. "What was in those chemical vats?"
"Checking." Dr. Wells brought up the information from Smythe Technologies servers that the CCPD had copied. Will knew firsthand that Smythe invested and designed things both for legal and not-so legal gains and it showed in their files.
"Damn…no wonder that company went down." Joe remarked.
"And I'm not feeling bad about that at all." Will said when Dr. Wells found a match to the chemicals used in the room that Mark was exposed to.
"It would seem that the chemicals in those vials were the components to synthesize a metal-alloy that Smythe Technologies was developing. Very cutting edge and dangerous. From the theories and early tests, the metal was nearly frictionless giving it a high degree of resistance to physical impacts and the ability to absorb infrared radiation. The unique properties of the metal make it a highly effective armor against kinetic energy, firearms, and intense heat but it was still in the developmental stage." Dr. Wells explained, bringing up the data to show them. The applications for this kind of metal are limitless.
"It's the kind of metal you could put onto the side of a new rocket to make it fly faster or make into armor." Cisco suggested.
"I imagine that's what Smythe Technologies would have planned to do with it." Dr. Wells brought up the data from Smythe technologies and compared that with the scans from Will's HUD during the fight with Molten Man. "And it would explain the metallic alloy on Mr. Raxton's skin that Will's suit picked up."
"The chemicals must have changed his skin into an organic version of the metal. It's why he's so strong and was able to walk after getting kicked into a building but what about the fireball thing?" Will wondered.
"Clearly Mr. Raxton's skin possesses exothermic properties and can generate intense heat. Mr. Raxton must somehow be able to use the heat he generates offensively." Dr. Wells told him.
"So, your Molten Man has steel-like skin and can throw fireballs because he's made of an experimental alloy. How do you stop him?" Caitlin wondered.
"Molten Man?" Joe was confused.
"Guess we'll have to figure that out. Maybe there's something in the Smythe Technology files that explain how the compromise the metal's structural integrity. If his skin is an organic version it's possible that it has the same weakness as the inorganic one." Will theorized. "We've got work to do."
"Let's do it." Cisco said, amped to get to work.
"I'll keep my ears open at the CCPD. The mayor wants these guys found so I'll let you know if I find something." Joe told them.
"Thanks, Joe." Barry said and Joe nodded before leaving. Barry didn't have any cases to work so he was gonna use his free time to help. Between Team Flash and the genius that was Will, they had a chance. Will was still in college with limited resources and was able to make his own web shooters and spider-gadgets. With the help of Team Flash and STAR labs, they had a shot.
Five hours later…
It was around 3 in the afternoon and Will, Caitlin, Cisco, Barry, and Dr. Wells were still hard at work in STAR labs to develop countermeasures against the elemental metahuman trio. They broke for lunch at noon and thankfully Central City had Big Belly Burger which was great as it was Will's favorite although Dr. Wells seemed to be a Big Belly Burger junkie. And it was Will's first time seeing Barry eat the huge amount of food he needed to maintain his metabolism and it was both intriguing as it was stomach churning.
Eating lunch and working with Team Flash was a nice change of pace for Will. When he first started it was pretty much just him and Yuri working together. Aria, Spencer, or Emily would help like running back end on his computer or with Aria designing his suit and gadgets along with discussing things. But he mainly kept them out of his Spider-man stuff to protect them. And when he and Oliver got onto better terms he got to work with him, Felicity, Roy, Laurel, and Diggle but they were a bit dower and more serious which made sense. They were good people and Will enjoyed working with them but with Team Flash he was more in his element as a scientist and he liked the dynamic of the group. Barry was the hero and the two got along really well. Cisco was a gifted engineer and Will learned a lot from him but they could also relax and talk about other stuff like movies or video games. It was kind of like working on a project with your best friend. Part of the time you spend working and the other part you spend goofing off. Caitlin was like the big sister of the group and she was an excellent doctor. Cisco and Barry told him of times she was more ice-cold and scary and he was kind of glad that he hadn't experienced that yet although part of that might be because she's dealing with her hangover. Then there was Dr. Wells. Easily one of the smartest people on the planet with a wealth of information. He was a great mentor for Team Flash so working with him gave Will a lot of valuable information, wisdom, and was a dream come true.
At the moment, Dr. Wells and Will were in one of the rooms to test his bio-electrickinesis. Will had a good understanding of his venom shock powers despite his limited use of it. In all his battles and encounters, he's only had to use it a handful of times as he would normally be able to handle bad guys without them. Dr. Wells wanted to work with him to better fine tune it. Will had sensor nodes on his body which allowed Dr. Wells to monitor his vitals and energy output and in front of them was power generator.
"All right, Will. Remember, the goal of this exercise isn't to overload the generator but to absorb it. From what you've said you can release your bio-electricity so let's see if you can absorb it as well." Dr. Wells told him from the safety of an observation room behind plastic-insulated glass.
"All right." Will cracked his neck and jostled around a bit to relax his body before grabbing ahold of the generator with both hands. His hands began to spark with bio-electric energy as he could feel the energy from the generator and slowly focused on absorbing it. Dr. Wells watched on the monitors to see Will's vitals were stable with a slight uptick in his bio-chem rhythm, likely occurring because of his powers. He checked the energy output monitor and saw that it wasn't going down but actually increasing.
"No, Will. Absorb the energy, don't feed." Dr. Wells told him.
"I'm trying…" Will said, trying to focus on pulling the energy into his body which was a lot harder then it sounded. He took another deep breath tried to will the energy through his hands and he could feel them tingling a bit.
Dr. Wells watched the monitor and saw the energy output of the generator begin to go down, slowly at first, but it was going. "That's it, Will. Breathe." Dr. Wells told him and saw the orange colored bio-electric energy spark around his hands and arms as he absorbed more of the energy. "Breathe. Feel the energy flow through your veins…powering every single cell in your body. All that power…all that energy…alive through your body. You control it. It listens to you. You are its master."
Will tightened his fists and soon more of his bio-electric energy sparked/flickered around his arms and now his body. Dr. Wells watched as the energy output of the generator was drastically sucked out. "RAH!" Will absorbed all of its energy causing the generator to short circuit but then sent it back into the generator only he added too much. The excess bio-electric energy caused the generator to explode which ended up knocking him back. It was like the scene in Jurassic Park where the kid gets sent flying through the air when he's on the electric fence that turns on.
"Will!" Caitlin rushed in and helped him sit up on the floor.
"Well done, Mr. Detmer…" Dr. Wells whispered before moving out of the observation room and saw Will sit up with Caitlin steadying him. "Are you all right, Will?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine." He assured them, not feeling anything broken or like when Electro zapped him. Caitlin gave him a quick once over and didn't see any kind of burn or scorch marks. Will looked at the generator and saw it was burnt to a crips before looking at his hands. "I did that?"
"You absorbed its energy but then sent it back. It was too much and the generator overloaded." Dr. Wells informed him. "You're getting a better handle on your powers."
"You think I can use this against Electro?" Will asked him and Dr. Wells shrugged.
"Absorbing energy from a generator is one thing but absorbing it from him is another. Still, your bio-electrickinesis might give you the deciding edge in your battle." Dr. Wells theorized. "I'll run some additional simulations with the data we have now but let's have Dr. Snow take a look at you just to make sure you're ok. And we could use a break."
"Sounds good." Will got up and they walked back to the cortex. He sat on the medical bed while Caitlin gave him a quick check up to make sure he really was ok. He was and Dr. Wells had her run some tests on his bio-electric rhythm. "How's it looking?"
"We don't really have anything to compare it to besides your own readings but it looks like the energy you absorbed didn't have any adverse effects. How do you feel?" Caitlin asked him.
"Fine." He assured her getting off the bed and jumping up to the ceiling, sticking with one hand. "Powers seem to be working."
Will pulled his body up and crawled along the ceiling. "Guess we can count your absorbing electricity as part of your powers although I would still advise caution. The electrical feedback you experienced before leaves you vulnerable so be careful when you use it." Dr. Wells cautioned and Will nodded. "As for how this ability will be against Electro I would be careful."
"Right. I don't want to know what fried chicken feels like." Will said as he crawled along the ceiling of the cortex to see Barry and Cisco working on the countermeasures for Molten man and Hydro-man. "How's it looking guys?"
"So far so good at least with Hydro-man." Cisco told him. He was mixing up a solution of various chemicals and reacting agents and then combined that with Will's webbing formula. That took some time as they had to find the right solution to use and then had to compensate for adding it into the web fluid which encountered some integration issues. They eventually found a mixture that would work with the web fluid. Cisco poured the liquid into web cartridges and placed the finished ones to the side. "You think five web cartridges should be enough?"
"Hopefully, one is all we'll need. If our theory holds and Bench's body really is water then it'll react to the coagulant in the web fluid and hardened him into place. And if that doesn't work then we can go to plan B." Will said, looking at the modified web grenades they had made. These ones were different from his usual ones as they were colored blue and didn't contain any webbing, just used the housing for deploying a different explosive. "Are you sure this stuff will work?"
"It will. I've based the design on a cold gun I designed to achieve absolute zero which ended up in the hands of Captain Cold. Barry took care of him and the gun was destroyed but I still know enough to create some cold bombs that will release a gas that can achieve sub-zero temperatures." Cisco assured him.
"It'll freeze Mr. Bench in place. Our biggest concern right now is Mr. Raxton as his organic metal skin is rather difficult to account for. It'll make physical attacks against him pointless and the intense heat he generates is a natural defense against chemical agents." Dr. Wells told him before they moved over to the table where Barry was working on countermeasures for Molten Man.
Barry held up the finished gas cannister. "Which is why we developed this aerosol version of a modified hydrochloric acidic compound. It should weaken his skin and make him easier to take down."
"Granted we have nothing to test it against which is why we will also take into consideration how we stopped Mr. Nimbus." Dr. Wells suggested.
"Who?" Will was confused.
"Kyle Nimbus AKA the Mist. A former hitman who was sentenced to death row when the Particle Accelerator went off. He can turn into literal poison gas." Cisco explained.
"Whoa. How'd you stop him?" Will wondered.
"Barry kept him coming at him and sapped his strength. The longer he was in his gaseous form the more energy it took out of him. Like you and like Mr. Allen, the constant use of your powers takes a considerable toll on ones endurance and considering that we've never had reports of Mr. Raxton before the past few days then he must be able to turn his metal skin on and off." Dr. Wells theorized and Will saw where he was going with this.
"So, using his powers saps his strength like it does for me and Barry. If we keep him off balance and have him waste his energy it could leave an opening for us to take him down." Will suggested.
"Exactly. It's not the most ideal plan but hopefully it's one that will work. As for Mr. Dillon, we've insulated yours and Mr. Allen's suits to provide better protection against his attacks. And as we saw from last night, Electro can be overloaded and his power can be sapped." Dr. Wells told him.
"I think I know of another way we can work with that. I might be able to modify some of my webbing to carry an electric charge and if we hook those up to a capacitor or transformer and reverse the charge…"
"We could drain his power and leave Electro powerless. That's what I'm talking about." Cisco high-fived Will. "Let's get started."
"First things first is I could use some coffee. Anyone else?" Will asked and got nods from all of them.
"I'll go with you. I could use a break too." Barry grabbed his jacket and the two left STAR labs to get coffee. Caitlin noticed Dr. Wells watched them leave and had a smile on his face.
"Everything ok, Dr. Wells?" She wondered.
"Everything's fine. Mr. Detmer is a very brilliant man." He told her.
"Wow, he must have really impressed you." Caitlin pointed out.
"He's impressed me." Cisco stated and they looked at him. "I mean the dude is in college and he made his own tech, gadgets, and web formula from scraps, bargain bins and what he can scrounge. He's making me look bad."
"Mr. Detmer has an incredible intelligence and amazing potential. If circumstances were different he would make a fine employee at STAR labs and of this team." Dr. Wells said and Caitlin and Cisco could agree with that.
"Oh man. Barry and Will would have some seriously awesome team-ups." Cisco imagined.
"But I don't think that's gonna work out. Will's life in Star city along with friends and family." Caitlin pointed out.
"Very true. If only circumstances were different." Dr. Wells remarked as they continued their work.
Barry and Will arrived at CC Jitters for a coffee run and placed their order which included the usuals for Cisco, Caitlin, and Dr. Wells. They also ordered some pastries with Barry already eating several due to his high metabolism. Will started to eat one before Barry got to them all when he got a text. It was from Aria with a picture of her and the others getting ready for the fashion show at Verdant which was in a few days. He texted her that he was fine and would hopefully be back soon when he got another text from Felicity wondering where he was as they hadn't seen him in a few days. He texted back that he was still in Central City and would be back soon.
"Everything ok?" Barry wondered.
"Yeah, just a text from my girlfriend and a text from Felicity. Just wondering where I am." He told him.
"So, with her texting you does this make you officially part of Team Arrow?" Barry wondered.
"Partner with them but I've got my own team. Team Spider-man." He corrected him and Barry chuckled. "Granted that team is pretty much a team of three with me and two police officers I work with at SCPD."
"You work with the police?" Barry questioned.
"Yeah, when I first started I was a solo act. I mean, it was just me in a crappy homemade suit and my original web shooters. Eventually I attracted the attention of some officers I could work with and trust. They were instrumental in helping me stop a lot of crime and in taking down Tombstone and Brick." He answered, leaving out Yuri and Captain Lance's name for their sake. "Plus, it helps now that the police are all on my side but my team is just three. With the occasional help from my friends but nothing super intensive. Usually just running background back in my dorm."
"So, your college friends know who you are?"
"Well, they were there right beside me when my powers manifested and I can't really keep secrets from them so where wasn't really a point. It helps to have people to talk to about this." Will admitted and Barry agreed.
"You got that right. How has dating been with you being Spider-man?" Barry wondered.
"It's been with its challenges but Aria and I were friends before we started dating. Circumstances kind of pushed us into acting on our feelings and it just went from there. It's had its challenges but it's also been part of what keeps me going." He admitted. "You getting serious with someone?"
"Not exactly. I mean, there's this girl who sort of gave me her number so maybe." Barry told him when they're order was ready so they grabbed it.
"Barry!"
They turned and a woman walked over. "Iris, hey. What are you doing here?" Barry asked her.
"All good journalists need a coffee break when they're on a good story and boy am I on a good one." Iris told him when she noticed Will. "Oh, hi. I'm Iris West. I'm a friend of Barry's."
"Will Detmer, nice to meet you." Will introduced himself.
"So, how do you know Barry?" Iris wondered.
"We don't really know each other." Barry answered to her confusion. "I mean, we recently met each other and we've been getting to know each other but I think we can call each other friends. I've just been showing him around."
"And in the short time we've known each other I've learned that Barry rambles." Will said, making Iris laugh and Barry to let out a sigh of embarrassment. "I'm a student at SCU in Star City and I work part-time at Palmer Tech with my professor. It turns out my boss knows Dr. Wells and told him that I was hoping to speak with him about my research and he invited me to visit for a few days. I've met Dr. Wells, Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow and it's how I met Barry."
"Oh, what are you researching?" Iris wondered.
"Genetic recombination and cancer research at Palmer Tech with my professor but I also major in physics and engineering." Will answered.
"Wow, another brainiac. Something tells me you fit right in at STAR Labs." Iris said when she realized something. "It's funny. You're here in Central City when Spider-man happens to show up too. I'm actually working on that story for my editor."
Will gulped a bit as Iris began to connect things. "Yeah, it sure is weird. It's like Spider-man followed me here or something." He let out a nervous laugh and Iris just looked at him confused.
"Well, sorry to talk and run but we've got to get back before these coffees get cold. We'll talk later, Iris." Barry told her before he and Will rushed out of Jitters.
"Ok that went south quickly." Will admitted and Barry agreed. "You don't think she suspects something do you?"
"One thing I know about Iris is if she smells a lead she'll pursue it." Barry told him.
"Crap." Will cursed.
Iris watched them leave before walking up to the counter and putting in her order. She looked back and thought it over. That Will guy shows up in Central City to see STAR labs and Spider-man just happened to show up at the same time.
"Could he be…" Iris thought it over but it seemed too ridiculous. "No, he's still in college. No way Spider-man is a college student."
Iris chuckled at the idea, unaware how right she was.
Line Break xxxxx
An armored truck convoy was moving through the city complete with vans of private security contractors and two CCPD squad cars as escort. It was a transport of diamonds being taken to one of the city's high-end jewelry brokers with a combined total value of 10 million dollars. The broker company hired private security but the CCPD were asked to help with the escort. Everyone was on alert but things seemed to be going fine until the fire hydrants on the street exploded a tidal wave of water rushed out. The vehicles kept driving but soon they began to hydroplane and spun out of control. The CCPD officers called for backup as they were under attack.
STAR Labs
Will and the others were just about finished with the countermeasures designed for Electro, Molten Man and Hydro-man when the STAR labs system picked up an alert. Cisco rushed over to the computers to check and the alert came up from the CCPD.
"An armored car convoy carrying 10 million dollars in diamonds is under attack in the city. Reports are coming in about exploding hydrants and a giant tidal way that caused the crash." Cisco told them.
"Mr. Bench." Dr. Wells stated.
"Hydro-man. They're going after the diamonds and if he's there then it won't be long before Electro and Molten Man show up." Will said before looking at Barry. "You ready?"
Barry gave him a confident nod. "Let's suit up."
Will slipped on his suit and pressed the emblem causing it to shrink and fit around his body before he secured on his web shooters, belt, and mask. Barry changed at super speed and slipped on his cowl before helping Cisco and Caitlin put on and secure the armor on Will. Will put on his new helmet and gave everyone a thumbs up that he was set before they headed out. Barry super sped out of STAR labs in a blur of yellow lightning while Will super jumped off the roof and swung away on a web line.
In Central City…
The private security guards and CCPD officers were trapped in their vehicles by the rising tide of water as they were unable to force open their doors. Some rolled down or broke window to get out but then were washed away by the water. The tidal wave of water then gathered around the car escorts and police cruises before pulling them away from the armored car. A path in the water opened up and Mark Raxton walked out from a nearby alley before activating his powers. His skin began glowing red and he walked over to the back of the armored truck. The driver quickly put the car in reverse and stomped on the gas pedal to try and get away but water gathered around the four tires. Despite his best efforts the water kept the armored truck from moving.
Raxton got to the back of the armored truck and grabbed onto the door handles with the heat he generated quickly melting through the lock before he ripped the doors off their hinges. The two private security guard protecting the diamonds shot at Raxton with their guns but their bullets melted or broke against his organic metal skin but it was annoying. He grabbed them by their vest and threw them down the street before grabbing the safe container holding the diamonds. He ripped off the secured door with his strength and pulled out the small lock box holding the diamonds but before he could leave with them they were pulled out of his hands by webbing.
"I'll take that!" Raxton looked up and saw Spider-man land on a roof's ledge in a crouch wearing new silver armor and holding the lock box. "You know, I'm pretty sure that your significant other is not gonna like wearing diamonds that were stolen."
"Hand over the diamonds, Spider-man!" Molten man shouted.
"Um…I'm thinking no. If you and you're a kiddy pool friend want them then you're gonna have to take them from me. How's that sound, Hydrant-man?" He quipped as he saw some of the water pull together and Hydro-man stood there next to his friend.
"It's Hydro-man, asshole and just for that I'm gonna make sure to squish you like the bug you are!" Hydro-man shifted his body into water and rushed up the side of the building towards the web head to kill him. Spider-man backflipped to avoid getting hit and kept jumping and dodging while Hydro-man tried to hit him. He flipped through the air and landed on the roof's ledge before backflipping off and throwing the lock box of diamonds away. "NO!"
Hydro-man turned one of his hands into water and extended it out catch it but the Flash ran by and grabbed it before super speeding away. Then the police, private security and innocent bystanders in the area were carried and super sped out of the area one by one. "Scarlett Speedster delivery system. Guaranteed delivery in one second or your money back." Spider-man quipped as he landed on a light pole before quickly jumping off to avoid a fireball from Molten Man. "I don't suppose you'd like to leave a comment to let us know you're satisfied with our service?"
"You're dead, Spider-man!" Molten Man threw a large fireball at him but Spider-man flipped through the air and landed on the ground before firing some web bullets at him. Molten man just charged through them and tried to tackle Spider-man but he jumped over him and kicked him in the back. The added protection of the new armor helped against the heat of Molten Man's skin and added in some needed force to his attack so it sent him into a mailbox.
Hydro-man fired water blast after water blast at Spider-man but side flipped to his left and moved into a TD raiz spin and then jumped into a 720 butterfly spin. He gracefully dodged a water fist by flipping over and then web zipped to the side to avoid a second one only to get hit in the side by a fireball. Molten Man threw another fireball but Spider-man rolled backward and pushed off the ground before firing some webbing into his eyes. Spider-man looked at his side and saw the armor was still in one piece and he didn't feel the heat. Molten Man ripped off the webbing and threw another fireball so Spider-man decided to be fun and threw out a punch. It dissipated the fireball but instead of burning his hand and scorching the suit, his new armored glove was able to take the heat.
"How do you like the new armor? Made if special just for you guys." Spider-man told them as Hydro-man walked over to Molten man and gave him a nod. He held out his arms and nearby fire hydrants exploded before the water was absorbed into his body. Hydro-man's form morphed into his liquid one but he now had enough water mass to stand over 30 feet high and became a literal water giant. Will went wide-eyed as he had to look up to see Bench's new height. "Oh, boy."
"How do you like my new armor?!" Hydro-man shouted in his garbled water voice.
"Me and my big mouth." Spider-man muttered as Hydro-man raised his foot up to squish him only for the Flash to super speed by and pull him out of the way. Flash reappeared with Spider-man further down the street as they saw the giant Hydro-man they now had to deal with.
At STAR Labs…
Cisco, Caitlin, and Dr. Wells were watching the fight on CCTV cameras and from Will's HUD and couldn't believe what they were seeing if they didn't see it with their own eyes. "Oh, crap…" Cisco muttered.
"That…that is not good." Caitlin stated and Dr. Wells couldn't agree more.
"No, it is not."
At CCPD…
Captain Singh, Detective Joe West and the other CCPD officers watched on the news about the recent breaking news story of Spider-man and the Flash facing off against two metahumans and now saw one of them turn into a giant water man.
"I have officially seen everything." Joe stated and Eddie agreed.
At CCPN…
Iris was with the others watching the breaking news story about Spider-man fighting in the city with the Flash and when she saw the giant water guy appear she grabbed her bag and jacket to go out and get the inside scoop on this story.
Back with the Flash and Spider-man…
Flash and Spider-man looked up at the giant Hydro-man as he literally towered over them. He had taken in a lot of water and pulled his arm back to throw out a punch so the two scattered. Flash super speed to the left while Spider-man web zipped to the right and perched up on the roof of a building.
"Will are you seeing that?" Flash asked him.
"Seeing, still kind of working on believing. Dr. Wells, any ideas because right now we could use them." Spider-man told him.
"Mr. Bench's water form would still be the same despite its massive size or how much water he takes in so using the countermeasures we designed should still work." Dr. Wells told him.
Hydro-man threw out another punch at Spider-man so he ran across the roof and web swung away. Hydro-man's punch had enough force to punch into the building and cause some serious damage.
"Except he's 30 feet tall." Flash pointed out.
"Even if I use all five web cartridges I don't think it's enough." Spider-man swung across the street to avoid Hydro-man's attack when he saw more fire hydrants on the street explode. Hydro-man held up his water arms and the water from the exploded fire hydrants turned into giant water funnels. One of the funnels hit one of the buildings causing part of it break off so Will swung down and looped in through a window. He kicked off the roof and used several strands of splitter web and a web grenade keep the building from falling apart. "We need to get him away from the water. The more water he's near the more he controls and the stronger he gets."
"Cisco, tap into the city's water grid and pull all the water away from this part of the city." Flash told him as he was running all around and getting any bystanders out of the area from Hydro-man's rampage.
"I'm on it." Cisco worked as fast as he could and tapped into the city's utility services to direct the water flow away from the fight. Hydro-man stomped down the street towards Spider-man, crushing cars and knocking into buildings as he did with complete disregard for anything in his way.
"Will, you need to stop Hydro-man now before he does any more damage." Dr. Wells told him. Spider-man flipped through the air and fired several web nets at falling debris to protect some bystanders running away before Flash got them to safety. He then web zipped to the ground and grabbed two people out of the way of a falling light pole.
"Go, run!" He told them and they ran. His spider-sense went off before he was hit by a water kick from Hydro-man. He flew through the air and was knocked through the front window of a coffee shop. The patrons inside rushed to the back exit as Spider-man picked himself up, completely drenched and the left shoulder pauldron of his armor was destroyed so he took it off. He web zipped out of the coffee shop and jumped up onto the roof of a nearby building.
"Right, so should I web him in the head or the arms?" He wondered.
"Hit his legs first. You need to disrupt Bench's water form. The more he's focused on trying to put himself back together the less he's focused on you." Dr. Wells told him. Will ejected his spent web cartridges before putting in the coagulant ones they made.
"Got it. Flash, think you can distract him to give me a clean shot." Will suggested.
"I'm on it." Flash super speed over to a building and waved at Hydro-man. "Hey, over here!"
"Flash!" Hydro-man turned around and threw out a water blast only for the speedster to run away. Spider-man ran across the rooftops and then jumped from building to building while Flash had Hydro-man distracted. Once he was close enough he fired his webbing coagulant at Hydro-man's left leg. The webbing hit Hydro-man's body but instead of going through him the webbing began to solidify and spread. Spider-man shot more webbing just as Hydro-man felt something was wrong. He looked down and saw his leg harden up like concrete. "What are you doing? What's going on?"
Spider-man reloaded his web shooters and shot some coagulant webbing at his right arm which hardened and spread to his upper body. "No, stop! What are you doing?!"
"Taking you down a peg, Bench!" Spider-man took out the two freeze bombs he had made at STAR Labs. "Open wide!"
Spider-man webbing the bombs and flung them at Hydro-man's head with them going into his mouth. Nothing happened at first until there was a muffled explosion and Hydro-man's head and body suddenly froze solid into ice. The ice spread until it encompassed his entire head, upper body, and arms. With his head frozen through, the bottom half of giant Hydro-man lost its form and crashed down into the street. The webbing coagulant encased left leg wasn't able to support the frozen top half and soon enough the weight became too much and it came crashing down.
"Yes!" Cisco and Caitlin shared a big hug while Dr. Wells let out a sigh of relief. He wasn't the only one as Detective West and other people were glad to see giant Hydro-man get taken down.
The colossal amount of water Hydro-man used had quickly gone down sewer grates and drains leaving just the frozen chunks of the water which were slowly melting. A small pool of water moved down the street and gathered together to slowly reform into Morris Bench. He was laid out on the ground and was unmoving. Going that large and getting frozen took a lot out of him and his powers subconsciously reformed his body into his human form but he was knocked out cold. Flash super sped over and Spider-man swung down to see Hydro-man lying on the ground but didn't want to take any chances to he reloaded one of his web shooters with the last coagulate vial he had and webbing up Bench from head to toe. The webbing hardened and soon he was encased in a cement-like cocoon.
"Can you get him back to STAR labs?" Will asked him and Barry nodded before grabbing Bench and super speeding away to drop him into the containment cell they had waiting for him. Will felt his spider-sense go off and turned to hear the sizzle of ice being melted. He turned and saw a glowing red circle melt its way through a giant block of ice and outstepped Molten man. "Hydrant-man is done so now it's time for the walking lava lamp."
Spider-man shot a web a nearby chunk of frozen ice and spun around twice before hurling it at him. Molten man saw it coming and shattered it with a punch.
"You're gonna pay for what you did to Morrie, Spider-man! I promise!" He threw fireball after fireball at him so Spider-man dodged them. He slid to the side and then moved into a butterfly spin, changing out the cartridge of his web shooter as he did. He fired some web bullets as he flipped and Molten Man just charged through them before picking up a sewer grate and throwing it like a discus.
Spider-man jumped over, shot a web at it, and then hurled it back only for Molten man to knock it aside. "Will, keep Molten man off guard and Barry will come in with the gas. Catching him off guard is the best chance you have to completely cover him with it." Dr. Wells told him.
"Right." Spider-man fired two webs to slingshot himself at Molten man but once he was close he web zipped up and flipped over him. Molten man tried to grab him but missed as Spider-man kicked him in the back of the head and landed in a crouch. Molten man growled in anger and tried to hit him with several wild punches and threw a fireball but Spider-man dodged them all before spinning into low sweep that knocked him on his back. He then jumped on his chest and bounced off like he was a spring board before backflipping into the air and stuck to the side of a building. "You know, it's clear to me that you are the weakness link in your little trio."
"Shut up!" Molten Man threw a fireball only for Spider-man to easily avoid it.
"I mean, Electro's got cool electric powers and Hydro-man just went supersize. I'll admit I didn't see that coming but you? I mean, you glow like a lava lamp and can throw fire but that's it. In terms of the super powers lottery, you really drew the short straw, didn't you?" Spider-man joked.
"Shut up!" Molten man began to glow even brighter and the heat he generated got so intense that he began to melt into the ground. "I'll show you who has bad powers!"
Molten man made a huge fireball and threw it. Spider-man jumped to the ground and saw the fireball melt a hole into the side of the building. "Wow, you really have bad aim don't you."
"SHUT UP!" Molten man charged like a wild bull, fully intent on tackling Spider-man into the building and beating him to death.
"Too easy." Spider-man jumped into the air and fired a web at a block of ice still on he street. He flipped over a light pole and when he swung down he pulled the block of ice into Molten man. When the ice hit the intense heat of Molten man's skin it created a thick plume of steam. "NOW!"
The Flash super sped down the street and activated the gas cannister before throwing it into the steam. It exploded and made a cloud of green smoke but Molten Man just walked out of it like it was nothing.
"Is that the best you got?!" Molten Man made a giant fireball which ignited the green smoke and made a huge explosion that knocked them all back. Flash tumbled to the ground while Spider-man was knocked into a wall.
"Damn…" Will picked himself up and saw one of his forearm guards was broken so he removed it. That's when he and Barry saw Molten man on the ground. They were ready in case he got back up but relaxed once they saw his skin stop glowing and turned back into its normal color. Will's HUD scanned his body Molten Man was knocked unconscious from the explosion and extreme exhaustion. "He's out. Guess all that anger hit its boiling point and the explosion knocked him out."
Barry breathed a sigh of relief as did the others back in STAR labs. "Not exactly how we thought it would work but with the results we wanted." Dr. Wells said as Will webbed Molten man up.
"Now we've got Molten Man and Hydro-man but what about Electro?" Will wondered when his spider-sense went off. "Move!"
Will pushed Barry to the sidewalk and got hit with a huge beam of electricity that sent him flying down the street until he crashed into a destroyed car. "Will?! Will, are you ok?! Can you hear us?!" Caitlin radioed in as Will groaned in pain and pushed himself to his knees. He didn't feel the electrical shock from Electro's blast do to the insulation but the blast and impact was strong enough that it damaged parts of his armor. He looked up and saw Electro hovering in the air as electricity flickered around his body. "He can fly?"
"He's generating an electrical field which gives his body a positive charge and it's pushing against the inherent negative charge in the atmosphere allowing him to—" Cisco rambled.
"Simple answer!" Will shouted in urgency.
"Yes, he can fly. Will move!" Dr. Wells shouted and he quickly backflipped into the air to avoid another electric blast and web zipped onto a light pole.
"Flash, get Raxton to STAR labs!" Will shouted and Flash grabbed Molten Man and got him out of there while Electro was focused on Spider-man. "You're a little late the party, Electro. You two friends are already done so just give up."
"And miss out on all the fun we can have? Morrie and Mark got you all nice and tired leaving me to finish you off. Now, it's time for the fireworks!" Electro raised his hands and generated a huge electrical field before firing an electrical blast. Spider-man jumped to the side and web zipped away. "You know, I got to say. I'm liking the name you gave me. And once you're taken care of, everyone in this city and yours will know the name of…ELECTRO!"
He raised his hands and shot sparks of electricity into the air like lightning bolts before he shot them at Spider-man. "He definitely wasn't like this last time." Spider-man pointed out as he web zipped to the side to air dodge an electrical blast before web zipping to and sticking to the side of a building. He ran up the building as Electro followed and kept blasting him before he jumped into the air and fired a web at the corner of the roof to bank forward and dodge another electrical blast. "He's got a lot more power than before."
"Electro must have charged up while you were dealing with his friends. His power reading is significantly greater than last night." Dr. Wells reported, seeing the data coming in from Will's HUD and suit. "Still no matter how great an electrical charge is it can be disrupted."
"Easier said than done when it can result in me getting burnt to a crisp." Spider-man did a 360 barrel roll in the air before diving to the ground as Electro followed and tried to blast him. Spider-man fired a web and swung low to see all the fire hydrants were either destroyed and empty and all of the large chunks of ice had melted. "I've got nothing nearby that I can use."
He web zipped onto a light pole and pushed off into the air before firing several splitter web strands that hit Electro and anchored him to buildings but he quickly burned through or blasted them to pieces. "Electro knows this and it's why he showed up last." Dr. Wells said just as Barry returned to the street and saw Electro attacking Will. He looked around for anything they could use against Electro when he saw the large building several blocks away that was under construction.
"I see a construction yard for a building being built. We can lure Electro there and limit collateral damage." Flash suggested.
"A construction site like that has to have generators and electrical equipment we can use to short-circuit Electro. Barry, head there now and do exactly as we tell you. Will, keep Electro occupied a little while longer." Dr. Wells told him.
Will swung forward as Electro zipped by and blasted his webbing causing him to fall to the ground but he rolled forward and pushed off before he could get hit by another blast. He shot a web line at a sewer grate and hurled it at Electro, hitting him in the stomach. "Not a problem." Spider-man swung around and kicked Electro in the face.
Electro spun around and staggered in the air before firing another electrical blast at Spider-man. The web headed hero was perched up on a car and he quickly pushed and backflipped into the air. He webbed one of the tires and spun around hurling the tire and hitting Electro in the face yet again. Electro held his nose in pain as Spider-man fired two webs to slingshot forward and tackle him out of the air and to the ground. He punched him in the face twice before Electro got on top.
"You ready to give up?" Spider-man asked only for Electro to charge his fist and punch him in the face. Electro grabbed his hand in pain as the new helmet was made of a sturdy metal so he just grabbed Spider-man by the head and shocked him but due to the helmet's insulation and material it didn't hurt him. "Guess that's a no."
Spider-man kicked Electro off him and did a kip-up back to his feet before firing two webs at his chest. Electro grabbed the webbing and sent a current through them to fry his web shooters like last time but that didn't happen. When the electrical current traveled down the webbing to the web shooters, they just glowed slightly but didn't explode. "Sorry, Electro but that's not gonna work again." Spider-man pulled and slammed Electro into the street but when he hit the ground he released a shockwave that knocked him back. Spider-man slowly got up and cracked his neck. "Ugh, shake it off, Spider-man. It's just your bones, muscles, and internal organs. Whew."
He looked up and saw Electro get back to his feet before holding his hands out to the side and blasted the light poles with huge volts of electricity. Nothing seemed to happen after that until the light poles began to glow and hum with electricity before the bulbs in them shattered due to overload. "Oh, that's not good." Will's spider-sense went off and he quickly backflipped to avoid an arc blast from one of the light poles only for another one to hit him from the side. Then another light pole glowed and blasted him with an arc blast, knocking him across the street before another light pole did the same. He was knocked all around the street by arc blasts from the light poles like he was the ball in a pinball machine.
Electro was controlling all of this, using the light pole and the underground wires as conduits and controllers for electricity. He waved his right hand and a light pole on the right side of the street blasted Spider-man. When he clenched his left fist the light poles on the left side of the street released electricity that grabbed Spider-man and held him in place. Electro then moved his hand around and the electricity field holding Spider-man slammed him into the street and into buildings.
"Guys I—ugh—I hate to—GAH—rush you—OW—but could you—ARGH—Hurry!" Spider-man managed to utter as he was repeatedly slammed around. Each time he hit the ground or was knocked into a building, bits of armor came off before he was thrown up into the air.
"Barry, Will needs help!" Dr. Wells told him.
"On it." Flash super sped from the construction site to go help him.
Electricity wrapped around Spider-man's wrists, legs, and body to keep him from escaping as Electro held him up in the air. Spider-man tried to fight against the hold the electricity had on him and fire a web to escape but the pull was too strong.
"It's over, Spider-man!" Electro amped up the voltage when Flash came from the side and hit him. He was sent flying to the ground and the electricity field holding Spider-man ceased.
"Ugh, that hurt." Spider-man remarked as the Flash helped him get back to his feet.
"You all right?" Flash asked him.
"Ask me that tomorrow." He told him when he saw the large crack his helmet had and that all of his armor was destroyed so he quickly removed it and was left in his regular suit. "Tell me that me being used as a punching bag bought you enough time."
"It did." Dr. Wells answered. "Barry, head to the construction yard and get ready. Will, get Electro there."
"Right." Flash super sped away while Spider-man web zipped up to the roof of a building when he saw Electro get up.
"FLASH!" Electro shouted in anger when he was hit in the face with webbing. "Get off!"
He ripped it off his face and looked up to see Spider-man perched on a roof. "Hey, Lightning Butt! Ready to give up yet?"
"Me give up?!" Electro laughed before he fired an electricity blast only for Spider-man to side flip and dodge. "I don't know if you've been paying attention, Spider-man but I'm the one who's winning here and I don't plan on stopping until you're dead!"
Spider-man jumped to dodge another electric blast before shooting a web at the tire of a damaged car. He ripped it off and hurled it at Electro who made an electrical shield and it bounced off. "Well, I'm not dead yet!" Spider-man fired a web and swung away so Electro hovered in the air and flew after him.
Spider-man swung through the air and then ran on the side of a building before jumping off. Electro zipped forward and fired electricity bolts so Spider-man fired a web and swung around a corner but then quickly let go and turned into a spin to dodge another electricity blast. He fired another web and pulled himself into the air before landing on the roof of a building. Electro sent out several arc blasts at the air conditioning vents and ventilators on the roof, yanking them out of their secured place and throwing them at Spider-man. The web headed hero vaulted over an air conditioner unit, slid under one of the air vents, and then did a butterfly spin to avoid two of the fan blades. He kicked off the ground and web zipped forward only for Electro to vaporize the web and fire another electricity blast so he tucked into a roll to dodge and fired two webs to pull himself away.
He shot another web and swung away with Electro right on his tail, getting pissed that he kept missing. They neared the construction site as Electro fired another electric blast so Spider-man fired a web at the crane and pulled himself up. He tucked into a 360 spin and fired a glob of impact webbing at Electro's face to distract him. Spider-man landed on a construction beam and saw an electrical generator that had its covering removed. He fired a web at its circuits and connected it to the beam before he jumped around and fired more webs. His webbing hit other generators or electrical conduits and he connected those web lines to various points around the construction of the building.
"Get ready, guys!" Spider-man told him, jumping into the air to avoid Electro's blast, and swung around webbing he had strewn around. He fired a web and swung around a group of the webbing to pull it together before shooting impact webbing to bind Electro and then a splitter web to connect the lines to him. "NOW!"
Flash sped around the construction yard and powered on the generators which he had modified by following Dr. Wells instructions. When the generators turned on, they sent an opposing electrical current down the web lines attached which all converge into the web line connected to Electro.
"GRRRR!" Electro grit his teeth in pain as the opposing charge of the electrical current began to affect his powers. His electricity dimmed considerably as his power was drained from his body. Spider-man landed on the floor below and watched Electro begin to short-circuit but then saw the power around the area dim and Electro's electricity get stronger. "YOU…THINK—THIS CAN STOP ME?!"
Electro grabbed the webbing on his chest and sent his own charge through, counteracting the negative charge and causing the generators and conduits around the construction yard to explode. "Guys, we've got a problem! Electro's overloading the generators! He's gonna get free!" Cisco told him.
"Not if I can help it!" Spider-man swung around and jumped up into the air before doing a web zip right at Electro. He punched him in the face only for Electro to grab him by the neck and let loose a powerful surge.
"Time to fry, Spider-man!" Electro shouted, using all his power to try and kill him. Spider-man groaned in pain but managed to grab onto Electro's arm and began absorbing the electricity. The orange flicker of his bio-electric aura sparked around his body before the current went down his arms and then his hands which began to glow a bright orange.
"YOU FIRST!" Spider-man released a Mega Venom Blast which exploded in a bright flash of orange light.
Spider-man flew back from the impact of his Mega Venom Blast and fell down so Flash rushed over and caught him before he hit the ground. He placed him down and looked up to see Electro dangling in the air with the web line on his chest the only thing that was keeping him from falling. By the way his body went slack and swung through the air he was unconscious.
"Will! Will, you ok?!" Barry gently tried to wake him and moved his mask up a bit when Will coughed up a lung. "Oh, thank god."
Will turned to the side and coughed a bit more before spitting out some saliva and putting his mask down. "That really hurt." Will said.
"What did you do?" Barry questioned.
"Mr. Detmer absorbed some of Electro's energy and used it to release his own bio-electric charge. One powerful enough to disrupt Electro's." Dr. Wells told them.
"Like sending too much power into a computer and causing it to explode." Will remarked. "It worked."
"That it did, Mr. Detmer. That it did." Dr. Wells told him with a smile on his face while Caitlin and Cisco shared a hug.
"I deserve a break after this." Will pointed out as he and Barry looked up at Electro. "Give me a second to catch my breath and I'll go get him. He's not going anywhere."
Barry nodded and the two sat around for a bit but would leave before the Police or Iris showed up.
Line Break xxxxx
The next day Will, Barry, Dr. Wells, Caitlin, and Cisco were standing in the cortex watching the security camera feed of the three cells holding Electro, Molten man, and Hydro-man. The three metahumans were cursing and trying to use their powers to escape but those cells were specialized keep them from leaving. Molten man's cell was made of a special material that was heat resistant and if he tried breaking out he would get hit with liquid nitrogen. Hydro-man's cell had the same kind of tech in the Mist's cell so his water form couldn't slip out. Electro's cell was made of completely insulated material so he couldn't absorb any electricity or zap his way out.
"They do not look happy." Will pointed out as he saw Electro bang against the door of the containment cell.
"I'M GONNA KILL YOU SPIDER-MAN!" Electro shouted in anger.
"No, they do not." Barry agreed.
"You sure they can't get out?" Will asked them.
"We're sure. We've gotten really good at this." Caitin assured him.
"Hydro-man, Molten man and Electro will not be going anywhere." Dr. Wells promised.
"Well, that's good news." Will cracked his back and neck as the team looked at the monitor to see the only story the news was running was about the recent massive fight Spider-man and the Flash had against three metahumans. There was amateur and professional video footage of giant Hydro-man, Molten man, and Electro. Reconstruction was already underway for all the damage but the reporter was informed that the damage wasn't as bad as initially predicted with some areas having been fixed early in the morning. "I hate to fight and just leave. I kind of caused a lot of damage here."
"They caused a lot of damage here, Will and you helped us stop them. You've done more than enough. Besides, I can take care of the seriously bad damage at super speed like it never happened." Barry assured him. "And you've got to get home before someone begins asking more questions about why Spider-man is here in Central City."
"Mr. Allen is right. You've done more than enough in staying to help us, Mr. Detmer and we appreciate it." Dr. Wells told him as Will held up his hands and they sparked with bio-electric energy. "Your Venom powers are powerful, Mr. Detmer. I'd advise some continued training going forward."
"Right. They definitely came in handy." Will admitted rolling his shoulder a bit still feeling a bit stiff from the fight. "Hopefully next time we get to hang out there won't be metahumans to fight."
"Next time." Dr. Wells chuckled.
"Dude, we definitely need you here more often and not because we can hang out again and make more awesome Spider-man gadgets." Cisco told him. "Vacation, next time."
"Next time." Will said as he and Cisco shared a hug before he hugged Caitlin.
"Take care, Will. Let us know if you need anything." She told him.
"Likewise." Will replied before walking over to Dr. Wells and shaking his hand. "Dr. Wells it was an honor. Thank you again for letting me stay here."
"The honor was mine, Mr. Detmer. You have a tremendous mind and after seeing you in action I can see why STAR city looks at you as a hero. Just keep doing what you're doing and I know you will go far. But should you ever need anything then STAR labs is open to you." Dr. Wells told him.
"Thank you. And if you guys every need anything at all just let me know and I'll come." Will told them and they nodded.
"Hopefully we won't need to use that favor." Caitlin pointed out as Will grabbed his bags and the suitcase holding his newly made Spider-bots, additional web gadgets, web formula and his repaired suit. Will made sure everything was secure before Barry walked over and super sped him to the alley of a building next to the train station.
Will staggered a bit from the sudden whiplash but it was minor as all the swinging and everything he did made him used to it. "Swinging is great and all but a part of me wouldn't mind the super speed." He admitted.
"It's fun but the metabolism get's annoying." Barry said as he and Will walked out of the alley to the train station. "Take care, Will. And say to Oliver and the others for me."
"Will do." Will replied. "If you or the others every need me then call and I'll be over."
"Likewise, man. Take care." Barry said as he gave Will a hug.
"You too, Barry." Will hugged him back. "And give her a call?"
"Who?" Barry wondered.
"The girl who gave you her number. Ask her out." Will told him. "I've got my girlfriend waiting for me and I can't wait. Trust me, dude. I technically have been doing this longer then you have and having someone there for you helps."
"I don't know if you can say you've been doing this longer then I have." Barry said when he thought it over and realized he was wrong.
"Actually, I have. I officially became Spider-man during the summer while you were still in your coma so I'm technically the superhero superior with more experience." Will pointed out. "And as your superior, listen to my advice and just ask out the girl. Who knows, she could be the one."
"Don't you have a train to catch?" Barry reminded him as Will chuckled and walked into the train station with his bags.
"Ask her out, Barry! Go forth, Padawan!" Will shouted, joining the traffic of people and all Barry could do was chuckle before he left.
After getting his ticket and boarding his train, Will sat in an empty row by the window and texted his mom and friends that he was heading home. He looked out at the passing landscape when he saw a blur and flicker of lighting rush past the train. The blur slowed down a bit and Will saw Barry running alongside the train with a smile on his face. Will chuckled and gave him a mock salute which Barry returned in kind before he super sped away. An end to a memorable team up between the Spectacular Spider-man, the wisecracking, friendly neighborhood protector of Star City and the Scarlet Speedster, the Flash of Central City. While the team up may have occurred in the home city of the Flash, what transpired today earned Spider-man three new villains to his rogue's gallery.
It was a team up of epic proportion but it would not be their last.
End of Chapter 12
1). Max Dillon AKA Electro from Spider-man PS4. Played by Josh Keaton who voiced the character in the game.
2). Mark Rakton AKA Molten Man as played by Timothy Granaderos.
3). Morris Bench AKA Hydro-Man as played by Chris Carmack.
4). Spider-armor MK 1 but it's not a separate suit and just armor he can attach on.
I hoped you guys liked the chapter. The end to the first team up of Spider-man and the Flash. Hydro-man, Molten man, and Electro were taken down but it won't the be last time we see them and it won't be the last time that the Flash and Spider-man team up.
Next chapter, Will returns to Central City and gets back to his regular routine of going to school, hanging out with his friends, and being Spider-man. It just so happens that Oliver is back as well and while him being back from the dead would be a good thing, it's unfortunately a bad thing as well and Will ends up in the middle of it. Crap. Until next time!
