Bella/Esme

Pairing: Bella/Caius; Esme/Carlisle; Esme/Charlie

Summary: Bella, Charlie, Marcus and Jane head to Maine when they receive a report that the Cullen's are up to their old tricks. Edward is dating a human, who now knows about their kind. What happens when Edward gets punished and Esme and Carlisle find out that their bond isn't what they think it is? What if Esme's true mate is closer than she thinks?

Bella POV

I couldn't believe this. Caius and I had just returned from our morning watching the sun rise, when we were summoned to the throne room. Upon walking in, I am completely surprised to see Rosalie and Emmett standing in front of my brother in laws and off to the side I see my father. We walk over to the platform where our thrones are and take our seats. "Brother, Isabella…thank you so very much for joining us." Aro said and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"As if we had any other choice." I muttered, knowing perfectly well that he'd heard me.

"Rosalie and Emmett have come to bring us a complaint about the rest of the Cullen coven." Aro said.

"Is it a legitimate complaint, Master?" I heard my father ask.

Rosalie snapped her head to where he was standing. "Charlie Swan?" She asked. He nodded his head once.

"Yes, Charlie joined us when Isabella did. He wanted to spend eternity near his daughter. Now, in answer to your question…yes it is a legitimate complaint. I have seen it in both of their thoughts." Aro told Dad.

I sudden felt myself get a wicked smirk. "Allow me to go. I'll deal with Edward and this human." I said, calmly.

Aro and Marcus snapped their heads to me. "But you're a Queen." They said in unison.

"That doesn't matter. This is important. I will go with Marcus who will be able to tell us if this human is his mate. If not, then he dies. And if they haven't changed the human, she dies too." I said. I was sure that I had shocked everyone considering I was the more mild-tempered one of the Royals.

"Are you sure about this?" My mate asked me.

I nodded. "Yes. Who better to serve justice than the last person they hurt?" I asked him.

"This isn't a vigilante mission Isabella." Aro said.

"I know. I will use Volturi decorum." I said.

Aro nodded. "Go prepare. You leave in an hour." Aro said.

And that's how I found myself to be on a plane to Maine to deal with my ex-boyfriend and his family. Of course I had Marcus, Jane (who's become the best friend that Alice wasn't), and my father. The Cullen's were definitely in for a shock.

"How are you dealing with all of this?" Jane asked me quietly.

I shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I loved them all once upon a time but they all left me. Then there's Edward. It's almost as if he didn't learn his lesson from when he was with me." I told her.

She nodded understanding. "What punishment do you have planned for him?" She asked me.

"I haven't decided yet." I said. Jane as well as everyone else left me alone after that for the rest of the flight.

When we landed in Maine, we rented two SUVs with black tinted windows and followed the directions that Rose and Emmett gave us to the house. The closer we got to the house, the more nervous I got but somehow I found a way to push it all down. I needed to do this. I had to do this.

When we pulled up to the house, Edward was the one to greet us. When we got to the porch, I lowered my hood. "Hello Edward." I smirked at him.

"Bella." He said.

"You will address her as Mistress, the Queen of the Volturi." I heard Dad say from behind Marcus.

Edward stood there dumbstruck. "Of course. We mean no disrespect." We heard Carlisle say from behind Edward, with Esme by his side.

Marcus stepped up and stood beside me. "Not that your not welcome, but to what do we owe a visit?" Esme asked us.

"May we come in?" I asked.

Esme nodded. "of course. your graces are always welcome in our home." She said.

They led us into the house and to the living room. Marcus and I sat on a loveseat across from Carlisle, Esme, and Edward. We'd had Emmett and Rosalie stay back at the hotel. "It has been brought to the attention of the Volturi that Edward is up to his old tricks." I said before I looked at Edward. "Dating another human? Shame on you. Do you plan to turn this one?" I asked him. He looked down at the floor in shame. "I figured as much. Where is she?" I asked.

Edward snapped his head back up at me. "What are you going to do?" Edward asked me.

I smirked at him. "You know what I have to do. But first I want to talk to her. Go get her." I said.

Edward POV

I couldn't believe this. Bella was here and I couldn't tell if she was after me or Jess. Jess was probably the sweetest girl I knew. She was the complete opposite of Bella.

When I got upstairs to my room, Jess was stretched out reading a book. She was like Bella in that sense. When she noticed I was there she looked up. "Edward, what's the matter?" She asked me.

"The Volturi are here. They have found out about our relationship and they've come to check up on us." I said, hoping to keep her calm.

"Okay. Should I be worried?" She asked. I shook my head. "Let's go." She said standing up and walking to me.

I knew that Jess's choices would be limited in this matter but I couldn't force this upon her like I'd tried to force Bella to remain human.

Bella POV

When I saw who walked in with Edward, I was shocked to say the least. "Jessica Stanley?" I said.

She looked just as shocked to see me. "Bella Swan? You're a vampire?" She asked me.

"It's Bella Volturi. I'm mated and married to one of the Kings." I told her. "Come sit. Let's chat." I said and she nodded. She and Edward walked over and sat on the couch across from Marcus and I. After a few minutes, I looked of at Marcus and he shook his head. I knew what that meant. Edward and Jessica were not mates. I nodded once. I turned back to Edward and Jessica. "Jess, do you know what the Volturi are?" I asked her.

She nodded. "The Volturi are the rulers of the vampire world. Their the ones that make the laws and enforce them." Jessica said.

"That is true. Do you know what Marcus's gift is?" I asked pointing to Marcus next to me.

"I believe that he can interpret and determine bonds between people." She said.

I nodded. "Yep. Do you know what a true mate is?" I asked. She nods. "Tell me then. What are true mates?" I asked her.

"When a vampire finds their true mate and they touch, it's like there is a spark of electric current passing through the body." Jessica said.

I nod. "Yes. Do you believe yourself to be Edward's true mate?" I asked her. She shook her head. "Why not?" I asked.

"I've never felt the electric current. But then again Edward said that I wouldn't while I was human." She said.

I snapped my eyes over to him and glared. I looked back at Jessica. "That is false. I was still human when I met my mate. King Caius." I said and her eyes got big. "When he touched my skin for the first time I felt the current." I told her and she nodded. I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Edward was looking down at the ground. "Now since you are not Edward's true mate, a decision has to be made. You will either need to be turned or you will have to be killed." I said and her eyes got even wider. "I will leave you to think about your decision." I said and she nodded. "Dad, take her to the kitchen to think." I said looking over at him. He nodded.

When he went to walk past Esme, their arms brushed against each other. When it happened, I saw her gasp and I knew what had happened. I turned to look at Marcus and he nodded. "Jane, dear…please escort Edward to Carlisle's office and keep him their while we make our decision." Marcus told her.

She bowed before saying, "Yes, Master" and leading Edward from the room.

"Carlisle, Esme, please." I said pointing to the loveseat across from us. They walked into the living room and sat down. I looked over at Marcus. "Cosa dovremmo fare? (what should we do?)" I asked.

"La tua chiamata. (your call.)" Marcus said. I nodded.

I turned back to look at Carlisle and Esme. "I'm sure that the both of you were shocked to learn that I was mated to Caius." They both nodded. "But what I'm sure will come as an even bigger shock is that the two of you are not true mates. Marcus has confirmed it. So, I will need the two of you to come to Volterra so that Chelsea can break your companion bond, as it isn't fair to Esme's mate for her to still have a bond with you." I said.

"And who is my true mate?" She asked me.

I couldn't help the smile that was on my face. "That would be my father." I said.

Esme looked shocked but somewhat happy at the same time. "Does he know?" Carlisle asked.

I looked over at Carlisle. "I believe he does." I said.

"And what about Edward? Jessica?" He asked me.

"Edward will return to Volterra with us where serve out the rest of eternity as a member of the guard. Jessica, the decision is hers. We just can't allow her to remain human. You know that, Carlisle." I said and he nodded.

A few minutes later, Dad escorted Jessica back in. "I've made a decision." Jessica said. I nodded for her to continue. "What are the chances that I find my mate?" She asked. I turned to Marcus.

"That's undeterminable." Marcus said.

Jessica nodded. "I think that I would like to be changed, and become a member of the guard." She said.

I raised an eyebrow at her. "Your sure?" I asked her.

She nodded. "Yes. I am actually hoping that after some training you will accept me as your personal bodyguard." Jessica said.

"I can consider it." I said.

"Thank you."

"Let's prepare to head home." I said.

Three days later…Volterra.

Bella POV - thoughts

Caius was so happy to have me home. It was one of the rare occasions where he showed me affection in front of other people. Chelsea wasted no time breaking the bond between Carlisle and Esme. Jessica was changed the moment we walked through the door, by Alec who was her true mate. Things were definitely looking up. As for Dad and Esme…They couldn't be happier. Edward couldn't have been more miserable. All was right in the world.
