APOV
We were getting ourselves ready to leave for King's Cross station when a knock came unexpectadly at my bedroom door.
"Come in Dad" I offered, my blond cousin in the process of tying my tie. Louis was already dressed, his long hair braided elegantly at the back of his head. The boy's beautiful mane had been tied into a ponytail by a red and gold ribbon to match his Gryffindor clothes. He wore no robes, but rather had opted for a red and gold v neck sweater over a white dress shirt. Even his nails were painted gold I noted.
"Oh… Lou, Alex, I didn't know you two were here already." My father commented absently with a smile, his gaze flowing from the black haired beauty sitting at the edge of my bed, to my cousin who stood before me.
"We stayed the night, hoping to catch a ride with you to the train." Lou explained to his uncle. The red velvet and gold thread detail of his sweater sparkled in the morning light. It was an opulent choice for his first day back at school and I realized he must have used some of the money i'd given him for his design projects to make it.
"Al, would you mind if we spoke privately? Well, actually, my guess is you will invite them to join so might as well have them hear this too." Father explained, pulling out my desk chair to sit. He plucked the stress ball from out of Raven's hands so that he could turn it over absently in his own. Alex uncrossed his legs and pulled his attention from the report he was reading. The jade rabbit paperwork was disguised as a textbook but Louis and I could tell what he was actually reading.
"Amelia says… you've reached warlock class one battle status. Obviously you have a lot of non combat related spells to learn at school before you can officially qualify for grade one… but she thinks you're already ready to lead the new program she devised at the ministry."
"The junior auror program?"
"Its a strike team program actually. Teddy is in charge of the Auror and DMLE incumbents."
"I don't understand."
"You're to hand pick twenty students, preferably from the dueling club, between third and seventh year and use Amelia's training regimen to prepare them at school for your team. The ministry wants elite personnel ready in a few years time to serve as reserve special forces. That requires careful grooming of the next generation. Years of training."
"You know the Japanese muggles started teaching their younglings martial arts before the second world war… we know how that turned out." I retorted.
"They had an exceptional army as a result."
"Which they then used to butcher their way through china." I corrected. "Are we to be your child soldiers?"
"You're to be our country's elite. You wanted into the ministry Al? Didn't you? This will fast track your career if you're interested. It's a good starting point if you want to work for the DOM, CIB, BAT, DOD, Foreign Affairs. Your hand picked will all certainly benefit from it too, whatever their career goals."
"Well, It will thoroughly dispel the stench of nepotism that might otherwise cling to me if you just placed me somewhere."
"I wouldn't phrase it like that… but yeah. I suppose it will."
"My friends will hate and resent me for saddling them with even more work than they already have. But Amelia did mention this program to me a month or so ago. Fine I guess, i'll join. Lou, Alex?"
"We're in!" The two shot without pause. Their emerald vials flashed along their neckline, reminding me of the allegiance they'd sworn to me already beneath the glimmering moon. I nodded to myself at the sight.
"Good, then it's settled. Certain weekends Amelia will come to check in on the two teams progress, but otherwise you will have free rein to train them however you see fit. Your fighting style… has been greatly admired by everyone who observed you at the carnival. Even me." My dad hoisted himself from my chair and started his way back towards my door, as though he were done with me. There was no, 'Have fun at school Al. Don't get into trouble. Make me proud.'
"Dad wait… I may have an idea. Could I perhaps… have dispensation to take my team from the school grounds on those weekends that Amelia doesn't come to Hogwarts? For training exercises and such. A trip to Gringotts to speak to private security? An interview with private defense contractors like the Malfoy's dragoons. That sort of thing. Contractors and operations experts. Field trips I guess."
Alex tried painfully to suppress a grin. He knew how smart that question was. My dad turned around suspiciously.
"You have my cloak if you really want to sneak off to places you shouldn't be. If Hermione has anything to say on the subject, I hear you're ALREADY quite good at it. You want me to now give you carte blanche to come and go from Hogwarts? With an entire class full of your hand picked friends?"
"I can sneak off with one or two people under that thing, but not my entire training program. I would need ministry backing to take third years and up from the grounds. I still have my red guards. I doubt anything will happen to us with Charlie and Gideon around."
"Its a boarding school Al… you're still fifteen. You can't just come, go and have lunch at Lunaris with your noble friends and—"
"—Train your fucking child army for you?" I asked, a little rudely.
"Who am I talking to. Is there any use in arguing with him boys?"
My dad smiled at my two friends who laughed back as their answer. They shook their heads in unison.
When my dad closed the door, Lou and Alex and I began to jump up and down excitedly. Not even the seventh years could just pop off to London or wherever else they felt like.
"Al can hand pick the order, put them into the ministry fast track, train them and we can sneak about the world without anyone noticing. This is nuts." Alex exclaimed, looking excitedly towards my blond cousin.
What a stroke of luck? First the massive inheritance that was trickling in from my Rhoynar fortune, now an official invite into the ministry?
Lily POV
"Three handsome boys coming to escort me to my train. How lucky am I?" I teased, examining the trio of stunning guys descend from the upper floors of our townhouse.
James and I had already eaten and were waiting with our bags in the living room. Elves and ministry assistants flitted this way and that through the house as Dad held an impromptu defense meeting in his study. I had long since gotten used to my Dad becoming minister for magic. Still, the constant background chatter of officials and bureaucrats was another thing entirely.
"Where's dad?" Al asked, looking around for our sainted Scar Head father.
"Mom will be taking us. Dad has a work emergency." James explained, helping Al with his suitcase. Al blushed at the kind gesture from his brother, fixing his hair back out of embarrassment. 'At least they're getting along a little better' I hoped to myself as I watched my siblings.
I led the way to the front door but froze in delirium the moment it opened.
APOV
"What in Merlin's great beard is that?" I asked, stepping out of 12 Grimauld Place to the sight of an enormous floating creature suspended in the sky above London. I was almost elated to be stumped for the first time in a long time. It was five times the size of Ancalagon, at least, but more elongated, like a serpent. Unlike my dragon, it did not, however, have wings. The salamander like creature was mostly a pearly white, except for its extremities and tail which were a pinkish red. Around the creatures head extended branching appendages almost like red trees. Gigantic gelatinous strings of algae hung from sections of its skin like trailing rope. My gaze shifted back down to earth where three figures stood casually on our doorstep.
Scorpius appeared in between the Japanese twins, four huge white foxes sitting behind them. Their nine bushy tales danced like ghosts, appearing and disappearing as they wagged. The beasts wore collars of braided rope with gold bell charms affixed just beneath their throats. I guessed these were ceremonial mounts of house Muramasa. The Kitsune, as i remembered they were called, were likewise almost entirely white with only their ears, paws and tail tips bearing crimson fur as detail.
"Your transportation awaits, your highness." Scorpius offered, inclining his head for me. His smile made me blush, which only caused his smile to widen.
"Don't bow to me Scor, not ever. Agi, Ami this is quite the surprise." I offered, kissing them on the cheeks in the french style. It was the royal custom among all members of the great families. I blushed again when Scorpius leaned in to do likewise to me. It was strange that I now outranked them all.
"We are transfering to Hogwarts from Mahoutokoro. The emperor allowed us to take his Dai Densetsu (Great Legend) for the journey to your country. Markus and the others are already on board." Agi explained, nodding a hello to Raven and Louis as they exited the house behind me.
"Mother, James, may I introduce Izanagi and Izanami Muramasa, Marquis and Marquise of Fuji."
The twins smiled politely but I knew they had no interest in my brother. They did however examine my mother, a sense of purpose in their gaze.
"Charmed Princess Peverell. You are well met."
"Al… I'm meant to take the train with Connor and Katie… are you sure you and Lou have to join this… this procession?" My brother inquired, doing his best to be polite. "I was hoping to have you sit with me for once."
"I can't be rude James. It must have taken a great effort to arrange this stop in London. I would not insult the Muramasa's by declining their invitation."
"Lady Lily, your friend the prince Maxus is waiting for you up in the cloud pavilion, we hope you will join us too."
Lily looked at mom for permission. After a sigh from the ginger warlock, Lily smiled.
James insisted on taking the train which left Mom to simply hug us goodbye. She wished us a good term at school before she and James drove off to the station alone. We all mounted the japanese kitsune, marveling as they bore us through the sky towards the massive Axlotle that floated there. How i loved flying. Now that I knew how to do it unassisted, I would have to teach Scor the trick too.
We settled into the main compartment of an enormous string of structures built onto the back of the Emperors mount to find the rest of the Order already relaxing on board. The compound was constructed out of expensive wood in the ancient style of shinto temples and must have been at least a few centuries old, judging by the design.
"Special operations? The youngest of us is fourteen!" Izanami shot, waving at Lily as one of her servants brought her a colorful drink to nurse. The girls silver hair glistened prettily in the light that filtered through the enormous windows of our pagoda. Wistful london clouds floated in the background like a dream of cotton candy as the Great Salamander swam effortlessly through the air. It was the smoothest flight i'd ever taken.
'I doubt the Rhoyne possess any great beasts in their estate' I mused to myself, a complaint more than anything. A tingle itched in my breast pocket as Ancalagon's mind gem bristled angrily.
'You are not a beast, you silly fool. You are also my friend, not my thing.' I huffed back, annoyed that he had pestered me so while in public. 'I've got a dormant dark lord in the recesses of my soul, I don't need a giant fire breathing lizard chiming in now too.' I shot, teasing the dragon for interrupting.
'It wasn't me Albus… it was Mercury and Hyperion. They were annoyed that you had not thought to consider them great'
I softened at that, suddenly missing the balls of fluff.
To my surprise Mercury apparated suddenly into my lap, nuzzling at me affectionately in the process. His coat shifted between colors until it settled on a light pink hew. His fur now looked like a strawberry milkshake.
'You've got the white phoenix as well.' Scor reminded, a memory of us rolling through the fields in the lavender bowl stuck in his mind's eye. My head spun towards him at his first intentional use of our mental link. He smiled at me once more before he lifted his own drink to meet his lush red lips. He was drinking the same brew as Izanami.
"Nami? Might I have one of whatever it is you're drinking?"
The girl nodded and ordered a serving boy off for the object.
It was then that my red headed cousin sighed and rose from her chair with a stack of papers in her possession.
Rose handed out a sheet of parchment with the roster of the order on it. (If you're interested in what's on these papers see the notes at the end of the chapter.)

"So far we have seven boys and seven girls currently inducted into the ranks of the order who are attending Hogwarts. Of course, not accounting for our founders Al and Scor" Rose explained. "I've conferred with Sorenson and Raven and we debated various groupings of the two teams to be formed. These are what we came up with."
"Albus, callsign phoenix, will lead team alpha, which will consist of: Louis the rabbit, Alexander the raven, Izanami the fox, Lorcan and Lysander the peryton, Melody the medusa and Maximillian the zouwu"
"Scorpius, callsign basilisk, will lead team bravo which will consist of: Lily the lynx, Aurora the harpy, Izanagi the fox, Markus the griffin, Ariana the kestrel, Victoire the butterfly and myself the owl."
She handed out the corresponding animal masks in the style of the red guards face protectors, although I noted ours were a glowing emerald green instead of ruby red. She and Alex had prepared these for order use before even hearing about the strike team program...
'smart' i thought to myself
"Every other weekend we will meet up with an adult member of the order to train on missions, except during the full moon when we will journey back to Baciu Tarn to train with the blood witch Niime."
Melody groaned as she reviewed the papers handed to her. She was strong, but the least willing to do all the extra work required of the order. Matheus had agreed to join the order but he too was reluctant to play such a crucial role. Maddy's concern was more out of fear than laziness I realized, watching the timid boy startle as Aurora's hand came to comfort him.
I listened as my advisors and friends discussed many topics over the course of our journey to Hogwarts. Mostly though I was lost in my own realm of thoughts. My mind bent towards James and Conor on the train, towards the strange Xenix who had appeared in fathers study, towards Scorpius… who looked more handsome than I could stomach sitting there in a silk kimono.
Finally, the work of plotting and planning our upcoming year's activities had been concluded and we all mostly broke into smaller groups to change and prepare for our arrival to the School.
I slipped off towards one of the most elegant washrooms i'd ever seen, staring down absently into the sink as cold water flowed over my skin. The enchanted soap glided like silk into the inkstone basin, a kind of holographic cream that tinged the liquid an milky white. My eyes found their siblings in the reflection of the vanity and I spared myself a good long stare, tracing the changes I saw taking shape as time marched ever forward. I scooped some water to splash it on my face, grabbing a hand towel from a ringed fixture along the wall to dry myself.
I had just turned from the bathrooms exit when the great Salamander hit a pocket of rough air. The invisible collision caused turbulence to shake the structures built up along its back like reeds in a gale. I could hear the wood groan and rice paper panels quivering noisily under the pressure of the wind. It was then that I slipped, the sight of Scorpius coming towards me shifting sideways as my world tilted angrily askew. Of course he was too quick to let the wind have its way. His hands shot out to steady me, keeping me from a hard collision with the floor. He held me in that narrow corridor for what felt like an eternity, fingers almost burning where they ghosted over my waist and shoulder.
"Careful Allie, it looks like we're flying through a storm." He whispered, another gust racking the compartments. A chill ran through my body and I prayed he could not sense the utter bewitchment I felt for him. He straightened me then, helping me back to a standing position as his eyes scanned my face.
"Thanks... you saved me..."
The words were barely audible, might have even been lost entirely in the spasms of violence that buffeted our sky train.
"I realize I haven't seen you since the Carnival ended."
"No I suppose not. Anything interesting happen in the last two weeks? I hope your grandfather is behaving."
"He's been surprisingly well mannered. As far as excitement, nothing as grand as inheriting a massive fortune though."
"You got my letter about Hans and the Rhoynar estate? I thought it had gotten lost since you never answered me…"
"Hmmm. You could have texted me. it would have been quicker."
"I'm almost as rich as you now." I joked, ignoring him.
He laughed and I could picture hearing the word 'almost' ghost across his thoughts. We both knew it would be years before complete access to that money would be mine and still he would be richer.
"Don't do anything nouveau with it Al. Please. For my sanity's sake?"
"No? And here I was going to order solid gold robes studded with enough diamonds to blind a basilisk."
Another laugh escaped that beautiful mouth of his as he watched me. He paused for a long while, taking his time in scrutinizing my features as I had just done in the toilet.
"You haven't been… ill since our last meeting?" He asked finally.
I shook my head. He knew i would have texted him if i had…
"Good. That's good."
Disappointment rang through me the moment the word "GOOD" hit. I wanted to whisper that I'd rather be ill every minute of my life if it meant he would kiss me to make it better. I wanted to kiss him now even as he stood before me. We were nearly pressed up against each other in the corridor, his hands still holding me for balance. I finally chanced a look into his eyes, nearly gulping to see his expression.
"What?" I asked with a smirk. "What's that face for?"
"You're just amazing. I'm still in awe at how much planning you've put into this organization. You may just pull off the impossible. I'd wager that even running this entire country one day isn't beyond you... if only you decided to. I'm… impressed I guess. We're only fifteen you'll recall. Well sixteen soon."
I blushed uncontrollably at that. My face felt like it had been exposed to the blast from an open oven. His hand came out to brush my cheek, teasing me for the splash of color that had stained it.
"You still get embarrassed like a baby though." He chuckled, his fingers moving from my face to my hair. I had to shake him off of me, marching passed him in a huff.
A hand shot out again, this time to slow me enough so he could match his stride to mine. We paced our way through the temple grounds, his kimono trailing the spotless paths on our return to the lounge.
"Why didn't you text me?"
Was he dejected?
"I was worried when I barely heard from you."
"We'll be spending the whole year together won't we? I didn't want to overdo it… I was also very busy planning this year with Alex and Rose."
"Hmmm... You could never overdo it Al. You're my favorite person in the world you know. And we've already missed out on a lot."
I bristled at his words, knowing how out of character they sounded.
"Mn to" I mumbled hotly, feeling a blush assaulting me again.
"What?" He asked, frowning.
"Mine too... You're mine too." I answered, not looking at him as I opened the sliding door to a room full of our friends.
LPOV
My eyes scanned the room, desperately trying to summon the snake like energy that Albus had since removed from me over the summer. It was a strange emptiness to have the shard of Voldemort's soul removed from me... Who even knew if it was a shard? It felt more like a scar than anything. Almost like the shed skin of snake, a discarded copy of the original.
All the same, I attempted to analyze the scene as had become my habit. I saw Louis and Alex flirting obliviously with one another. I saw Max and Izanagi looking over quidditch cards, discussing team members and the upcoming season. I saw Aurora and Izanami gossiping over a magazine. It wasn't until my eyes rested on my brother and his idiot that I paused for a good long while.
Al sat cross legged at Scors feet, his blond resting on the padded bench above. Malfoys fingers worked diligently at my brothers neck, working the pain out from the taut sinews there. Al seemed as if in a trance, a dream of soothing affection being lavished upon him by the boy he loved most in the world.
"I'm never going to get the hang of this." Markus complained from his seat beside me. His elegant metal wand was repeating a motion over and over again, trying to perform some spell he'd been practicing. It would be hard enough for a wizard raised as a muggle to learn magic. How would he be able to learn with a family heirloom as finicky as the Maxus family instrument. Metal, and Grffiin core to boot.
"You've only just awakened your magic, it's a miracle that crash course your mum and uncle paid for taught you anything at all."
"Its actually hopeless. Full stop, end of discussion, hopeless. i've only managed a few defensive spells and some basic restoration magic."
"None of what you picked up is simple though. Give yourself some credit."
"Really Lily?" He asked, forcing me to look at him.
"I didn't think you were this needy..." I teased, smirking at him. "I'm exceptionally talented Mark, i wasn't flattering you. You've kept me up to date on what you've been learning. You're doing great for a first year."
"Ugh, i'm not looking forward to being in classes with eleven year olds... i'm already older than your brother for fucks sake."
"My brother is a once in a millenium, genius savant, prodigy... godling. He's not someone to compare yourself to. Besides he has his own curriculum designed for you. You'll learn quickly enough once he's actually teaching you properly. Didn't you say you were top of your class at muggle school?"
"I was an excellent student, sure, but my muggle classes might as well have been taught in ancient Sumerian for all the good they'll do me at Hogwarts."
"Oh stop whining, what spell are you trying to cast anyway."
"Summoning an object. One of the spells your brother wants me to pick up... I'm trying to call over that bottle of water so I can refill your glass."
"Are you kidding? I can't even cast a summoning spell wordlessly."
"But i've been doing really well at casting wordlessly... I thought i could catch up if I put a little extra edge on my studies."
"You've been trying to learn magic... wordlessly..."
"Well so far yeah..."
I squinted at him, making my annoyance obvious.
"Say it... now..."
"But."
"i'm running out of patience Mark..."
"Accio water bottle!" the princeling spat, causing the Venom water to zoom across the room. The bottle hit Melody in the back of the head before it adjusted course and flew into the wizards waiting grasp.
"OWE! Watch it!" Melody cursed, rubbing the impact site irritably. Her expression exploded into shock the moment she realized who had been responsible.
"There, for you. You can pour it yourself." He spat grumpily, offering me the green receptacle. I wondered suddenly if he hadn't been trying to impress me all along.
"See, now that was amazing." I replied, pulling the object from his grip.
Everyone was staring at him, but it had taken him several moments to realize it.
"Accio is like a fourth year piece of magic." I explained, sipping the water as I stared absently before me.
"Nice work Markus!" Al shot excitedly, looking upwards at Scorpius from the floor. "He'll catch up in no time!"
"You gave me fourth year spells to learn?" My new friend cursed, embarrassed at the sudden attention he was receiving.
"I gave you magic from all years. Stuff that seemed the most useful for your daily life and self care."
"Still... you should have labelled what magic was more advanced... it would help-"
"-My lords, we have arrived." A voice exclaimed through the compound.
