We start off with Dwayne Junior narrating.
The school system, the way it is set up, is useful for helping young kids achieve their goals. And, a school sporting event, can bring out the best and worst of the students that are playing. This is the competitive Junior year.
The tugs theme then plays
Junior's POV
The next few weeks at school were incredibly rough for me and Bertha. I thought If I simply just explained my side of the story on social media, people would believe me and think differently about what actually happened. Instead, when the public saw my Facebook post explaining what happened, they accused me of betraying the police officer I just defended. I went from the most popular student in school, to one of the two most hated, alongside Bertha. While I was usually modest about my fame, that didn't mean I couldn't enjoy it on occasion. To have most of it stripped away from me, and be seen as a horrible person, was just heartbreaking. Our chances of winning in court against Mitchell Calls was starting to decrease. This man seemed to have a good lawyer, and he was able to postpone Bertha's traffic court date, several months back.
Reader's POV
On the twenty fourth of March, everyone who lived in the Santori household, was getting together in the living room. They were about to watch the 2013 Auto club 400, at the Auto club speedway. "With everything I have had to put up with so far, I could really use a Denny Hamlin win" said Junior. "Considering that stunt he pulled at Bristol last week with Logano, several NASCAR fans would disagree with you" said Harold.
A few hours later, Joey Logano was leading, with Denny Hamlin running in second. As they were taking the white flag to start the last lap, Hamlin was right on Logano's outside. "Go Denny, get him" said Junior. The two of them were bumping each other, and were still side by side, going into turn 3. "Come on Denny, you've got one more shot at him" said Junior. It looked as though Hamlin was about to clear Logano for the lead, until Logano slid up the track and bumped him. As this was happening, Kyle Busch went right by both of them on the outside. Logano then slammed into the outside safer barrier, and Hamlin went sliding onto the apron. "Oh shit" said Junior. Harold wasn't paying attention to the crash at all, he was more focused on what was happening ahead of them. "HELL YEAH, YOU GOT IT ROWDY!" he shouted. Kyle Busch, easily ended up winning the race.
Junior's POV
I was incredibly pissed with Logano after the bullshit that I just watched. I thought it couldn't get any worse, until I saw Hamlin being tended to by medical workers, while lying on the ground. It was obvious that he had just gotten hurt, after he slammed the concrete wall at the bottom of the track. Upon seeing what just happened, Harold completely forgot about Kyle Busch winning the race. Everyone in the house was now entirely concerned for Hamlin's well being.
Reader's POV
The following day after school, Junior was looking on the internet, and was absolutely disgusted at what he was reading. In the crash, Hamlin ended up breaking his back, and was going to be sidelined for an unknown amount of time. Junior then ran into the bathroom, and began throwing up in the toilet. As this was happening, his wife came in, and began rubbing his back. "I know the risk that drivers take when they get into the car" said Junior. "I just never thought it would happen to my number 1 favorite." "The fact that Joey Logano didn't get parked for next weekends race at Martinsville, is just revolting." "I will never forgive him for this." "Listen babe, things are going to be okay, he'll recover from this" said Bertha. "We both have suffered a lot, but we've been with each other the whole time." "And no matter how bad things gets, we will still have each other's backs."
Junior's POV
Bertha being there for me, just made me love her even more. No matter how bad things got, I knew she was going to stand by me the whole time. We would definitely need each other, as something really bad would come up. This would end up reducing our chances of winning in court, by less than one percent. But that is a story for another day.
Authors note: The fact that Joey Logano wrecked Denny Hamlin intentionally, injured him, didn't feel remorse for it, and avoided getting penalized, absolutely disgusts me. NASCAR should have given him the same penalty they gave Carl Long in 2009.
Due this day, over a decade later, NASCAR still has yet to replace every single concrete wall they have with a safer barrier.
Thank you for reading and please have a great day.
