Kyandi: We're back!
Rory: And in short succession.
Kyandi: I've been feeling pretty good lately.
Rory: For the first time in a long while.
Kyandi: Eh. I'm making it through.
Rory: Day by day.
Kyandi: Yep. Anyway, this chapter is a little on the shorter side. It's just to build up the relationship between Rory and the guys more.
Rory: As if I need that.
Kyandi: You might not think so, but I do and I have the say.
Rory: …
Kyandi: Good, no argument. Everyone, please enjoy and review!
Rory: Kyandi-sama does not own Tokyo Revengers.
Chapter 3 Day Out
The next day was Rory's rare day off from both jobs and she was happy it was finally there. It was the one day a month that she could sleep in as late as she wanted and just take the day at her own pace. Deciding that she actually wanted to cook her own meal for once, Rory went grocery shopping. It was once in a blue moon that she got to do that, leaving her to get meals on the go.
Humming happily to herself, she scanned the aisles, trying to decide what she wanted for lunch and dinner. She was in the process of picking out vegetables when she heard a call from behind her.
"Angel."
'Don't turn around, don't turn around...'
Rory stubbornly fixed her attention on her grocery shopping, refusing to turn at the sound of the unwanted nickname. She simply added some carrots to her basket, moving on to the next veggie. Then she felt it. A chin came to rest on her shoulder as arms wrapped around her waist. Rory tensed, fighting the instinctive urge to grab the boy behind her and flip him into the bin of tomatoes in front of her.
"Ignoring me, Angel?"
Rory pulled her head to the side, both to turn to look at her hugger and to pull her ear away from his warm breath. Her eyes found Mikey's grinning face. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't hear my name."
"Give it to me and I'll gladly call you by it."
"No go. You can let go of me now."
Mikey's grin grew. "Hmm...I don't think so. You fit comfortably here."
Rory rolled her eyes before she wedged an elbow between them to force him to release her. "If you want someone to fit there then go find a girlfriend. Or boyfriend, I don't judge."
Mikey chuckled in amusement as she returned to her shopping. "What're you doing?"
"Grocery shopping. I have a rare day off from both jobs."
"You don't go to school?" Mikey followed her, hands in pockets, as she moved on.
"I'm home schooled. I could ask you the same thing."
Mikey shrugged his shoulders. "Didn't feel like going."
Rory sighed, turning to head to the meat coolers. "Such a delinquent." A comment that only made him grin all the more. "Any reason you're followin' me?"
"Hmm...I like you. Let's be friends."
Rory came to a stop, turning to look at him. "Are you crazy?"
The fact that his lips only spread further into a grin told her all she needed to know. "We're friends from now on."
"The hell we ain't." Rory braced her fists on her hips as she turned to look at him. "What is it with you, huh? I've got enough trouble in my life without being followed around by a guy that's a few fries short of a Happy Meal."
Rory eyed him as he moved closer. He was pleased to see that he had a few inches on her. "I like you. I keep those I like close. Give me your name, Angel, and I'll give you room to breathe."
Rory's eyes rolled before she reached up to pat his cheek. "Nice try, but I'm not that easy to pin down. You want my name, you're goin' to have to work for it."
She turned to walk away, but Mikey grabbed her hand, pulling her to a stop. When she looked back at him, her eyebrow rose. "You haven't asked for my name."
"Because I don't care."
Mikey grinned. She was so amusing, batting him off like a fly with an indifference that no one had shown him before. It made him want to poke at her more and more, and learn all that he could about her. It kind of felt like poking at a sleeping bear. How far could he push before she woke up with a vengeance? "I'm Mikey."
"Good for you," Rory pulled her hand from his grip. "You can go now."
"Aw, come one, Angel!" Mikey continued to follow her as she gathered the rest of her groceries. "Come play with me."
"Not really sure I want to know what you mean by 'play'."
Mikey laughed. "Come with me and find out."
Rory approached the cashier, placing her basket before him. She didn't answer Mikey while she checked out, taking her bags with a thanks. Mikey followed along behind her as she left the store. Outside, she found his friends waiting for Mikey. Another sigh left her lips. She walked right past them, ignoring the stares as she pulled a key from around her neck.
Curious as to what she drove, Mikey trailed behind her, his friends following. He was surprised when she came to a stop next to a motorcycle. He stopped and blinked as she opened a storage bag on the side to stow her groceries, removing a helmet to clear space.
"Is that a Honda Shadow?"
Rory looked up when Mitsuya spoke, all of the boys staring. "Yes. An '84 model, custom paint job. Took me forever to restore it." Rory closed the storage bag, her hand running lovingly along the metallic teal body. "Its about the only thing of real value that I own."
"How the hell did you even get one? Those go for over one million yen!" Mitsuya pointed out.
"You don't say. If I didn't care about it so much, I'd be tempted to sell it. I'd be set for a while. Oh, well." Rory dismissed that with a wave. She threw a leg over the bike and tossed her braided hair over her shoulder before she started the bike. "I'd rather starve than give up this baby."
Mitsuya frowned as she put on her helmet, clicking the strap in place. "You didn't answer my question."
Rory walked the back backwards out of the parking space. When she was clear, she turned her eyes to him. "Didn't plan to. You want answers, askin' me ain't the way to get 'em. See ya."
Rory flipped her visor down and with a rev of the throttle, sped away. They watched as she swung out onto the street, blond braid trailing behind her. Mikey snorted as she flipped off a car that honked at her when she flew by in front of it.
"The more I talk to her, the more I like her.," he remarked.
"Why?" Mitsuya couldn't understand it. "I've never understood the appeal of abrasive girls. I mean, I guess she's hot, but that personality is a bit much."
"Her personality is the best part. She's amusing," Mikey replied, walking back to his bike.
"You're a strange dude," Draken retorted.
Mikey couldn't help but laugh. He could see why some people might dislike Rory. She was brutally honest, not afraid to call it as she saw it. Not a lot of people liked that. Mikey, though, was finding it oddly refreshing. All he had to do was ask and she would probably hit him hard with the truth, even if that meant angering him and risking his wrath.
Now he just needed her name.
"I got some info on her earlier." Mikey turned to look at Mitsuya. "She's seen going into the same club every night. Doesn't leave until super late. I'm willing to bet that's her second job."
Mikey grinned. "Guess, I'll have to pay her a visit tomorrow night, then."
END
Rory: The idea of him showing up at my job is terrifying.
Kyandi: He's already shown up at one, why not both?
Rory: My point still stands. He's...insistent.
Kyandi: Yeah, and that insistence isn't going to help you later.
Rory: Don't remind me.
Kyandi: So we don't give anything away, we're going to call it here.
Rory: I'm still not happy.
Kyandi: I understand. Everyone, please enjoy and review.
Rory: We'll be back as soon as we can.
Kyandi: Bye-bye!
