Episode 155: Lapras of Luxury
Mew and her friends continue on their journey to New Bark Town where their journey first began. In order to register for the Johto League, Mew needs to head back to New Bark Town to do it. Right now, Mew and her friends have stopped at a local Pokemon Center along the way.
Now, they're talking to Professor Elm, "I heard the news. Way to go. You should be very proud of yourselves earning those eight badges."
"I sure am, Professor Elm, thanks a lot," Mew says.
Then Misty says, "Professor, I'm surprised that you found us. How did you know that we were going to be here?"
"Well, Professor Oak told me you were headed for New Bark Town. I thought you all might stop at that Pokémon Center right on the way," Professor Elm explains.
"Nice detective work," Brock says.
Then Mew asks, "Hey, Professor, was there anything you wanted us to do for you?"
"You know I hate to bother you, but, could you please stop by the Marine Pokémon Laboratory?" Professor Elm responds.
"The Marine Pokémon Laboratory?" Misty questions.
"I'd like you to pick up a Pokémon egg for me," Professor Elm says.
Mew questions, "Another Pokémon egg?"
Soon enough, Mew and the others are on the move to the Marine Pokemon Lab
"So, all we do is get the egg and bring it to Professor Elm, right?" Tomo asks.
"I'm sure it's no ordinary egg," Misty says.
"If he went to all this trouble of tracking us down and then asking us to deliver it to him by hand, that egg must be important," Brock says.
"It seems so," Jen says.
Molly points out, "Is that it over there?"
The group turns to see their destination, the Marine Pokémon Laboratory.
"Well, that must be it," Mew says.
Soon, the group enters the lab, "Hello?"
"We're here to pick up the Pokémon egg for Professor Elm!" Brock calls out.
And Misty calls out, "Is anybody here?!"
"It seems empty," Tomo says.
"That's strange," Jen says.
"Now what do we do," Misty asks.
Someone soon comes running, "Out of my way, please!"
Everyone gains way.
"Sorry!" The woman says and runs out.
"What's the big rush?" Mew asks
"I'll tell you! It's a rush to excellence, to beauty and to romance!" Brock says and rushes off.
"Uh, Brock, where you going?" Molly asks.
"We better follow him," Misty says
The group follows after Brock while the woman in the lab coat reaches a dock where a sub and a Lanturn were waiting.
"Alright, Lanturn, they're coming!," The woman says and sets up her equipment, "Let's get ready."
Lanturn dives down and uses Supersonic.
"Supersonic level optimized and fully operational," Brock says.
And soon, Brock shows up, "Excuse me, I realize you must be real busy, with your equipment and all, but, I can't wait to express my feelings for one as beautiful as you!"
And the others follow from not behind.
But the woman says, "Please, be quiet, or I won't be able to hear them when they speak."
"When who speaks?" Mew asks.
Soon, a sound is heard.
"It sounds, more like they're crying," Misty says.
"It's the song of travel,"
"That's a song?" Jen questions.
"Amaur?" (Travel?)
Soon, multiple lights come up on the laptop.
"Yes, they'll be here soon," The woman says, "Lanturn, look! Here they come!"
Lanturn surfaces just as a whole school of Lapras do.
Brock, Mew, and Tomo call out," Lapras!"
"Just look at them all!" Misty says.
"It's great to see them looking so well," The scientist says.
"So it was the Lapras that were doing all that singing!" Mew says.
One particular Lapras swims up to our heroes and nuzzles Mew.
"Hey there, Lapras. You sure are a friendly one," Mew says.
"It's trying to tell you something," Misty says.
"Yeah, seems like all of them are," Mew says.
But then she realizes, "Hey, wait a minute! I know you!"
Mew then flashbacks of the time she had Lapras at the Orange Island and how she let him go to be with the pod.
Mew happily says, "Lapras! You're my old buddy, aren't you?" And hugs Lapras, "I didn't even recognize you! You really grew up, Lapras."
Pikachu and Eevee happily greet their old friend.
"So that's the very same Lapras you guys knew way back when!" Brock says.
"Yeah. We haven't seen Lapras since we were in the Orange Islands!" Tomo says.
Then woman turns to the group, "The Orange Islands?"
"Uh huh," Misty confirms, "That was the last place most of us saw them back when Mew's Lapras was small.
"That makes sense," The woman says, "The Orange Islands. That's it! It's the last piece in the puzzle that reveals the Lapras migration route! Thank you so much, Mew!
"Uh, how did you know my name?" Mew questions.
Then the woman says, "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Naomi, director of the Pokémon Marine Lab."
Everyone was surprised.
"You're the director of this whole laboratory?" Misty asks.
"Uh huh. Well, actually, it's a one woman operation here. Just me," Naomi says.
Then turns to Mew, "So, Mew, Professor Elm said you'd be coming, you're here to pick up the Pokémon egg, correct?
"Uh, Naomi? All of this talk is meaningless, let's talk about you," Brock says, getting lovey dovey again, "About your likes and dislikes, favorite band, favorite color, your blood type, everything!"
Misty soon grabs Brock's ear, "Enough. How about, most annoying Pokémon Breeder she ever met?" and drags him away.
Then Tomo asks, "Naomi, do you spend all your time at the laboratory studying those Lapras?"
"Yes, I work in the area of Pokémon Marine Biology," Naomi says.
"Pokémon Marine Biology?" Mew, Tomo, and Molly reply, confused.
"Yes, we study the living patterns of marine Pokémon. Someday, we could use this knowledge to improve human life, too," Naomi says.
A bit later, back in the lab, our heroes are being shown a Lapras migration map.
Naomi explains, "Every year, those Lapras migrate to these same waters at the exact same time. But we haven't been able to figure out how they can navigate so accurately. They're somehow able to know from a great distance away when the water temperature and season is perfect for them to return, then they share this information with other Lapras, but with an astounding speed."
"And that's what you're working so hard to find out, right?" Brock asks.
"That's right, and I believe that the key to solving it is in Lapras' voice," Naomi says.
"In their voice?" Molly questions.
"Yeah, listen to this," Naomi says, turning on the CD player.
Soon, they hear Lapras crying.
"That sounds like the song of travel we heard before," Misty says
"Exactly," Naomi says, "But after years of study, very little is actually known about the singing. However, my studies have found that Supersonic attacks can actually pinpoint their location."
"Lanturn's attack?" Mew asks.
"That's why Lanturn was with you in the bay," Misty says.
"Lanturn's Supersonic was helping you to figure out where the Lapras were before they even got here!" Brock says.
"That's right. I knew I could track them because that school of Lapras are always singing their songs of travel as they move," Naomi says.
"It's so mysterious, and kind of romantic, too," Misty says.
Then Naomi says, "That's true, on both counts. I know what you both mean, guys. It's very important to me to figure this out. I know that the Lapras have so much to teach me and the rest of humanity."
Meanwhile, Team Rocket spies on the school while being amongst them in their Gyarados submarine.
"Look at all the Lapras," Jessie says, amazed.
"Just sitting dere waiting to be heisted!" Meowth says.
"What if we were to collect all of those Pokémon? We could rent them out and run our own water taxi service," James says.
Jessie happily says, "What a great idea. That's how everyone will travel and we'd make a fortune from the fares."
"And tanks to dem, we'll be living in da Lapras of luxury!" Meowth says.
"Why piddle with Pikachu and Eevee when we could capture a community?" James questions.
"Then it's full scheme ahead," Jessie says.
Great!" James and Meowth cheer.
Meanwhile in the lab…
"The Pokémon egg is in here," Naomi says as she opens a wooden box containing the egg.
"It's green," Misty says.
"What kind of Pokémon egg is it?" Jen asks.
"It's a complete mystery to me, Jen," Naomi answers, "Its said to have originally come from the Pokemon preserve up on Mt. Silver, but then, at some point, the egg was stolen by a group of poachers. Somehow, it fell out of the hands of the poachers. Fortunately, it was discovered and then brought here to the lab."
"I'll bet that's when you decided to call Professor Elm," Brock says.
"That's right, Brock. I figured he could preserve the egg and make sure its in good health," Naomi says and turns to the group, "And did you know that he's the advisor of the Johto League Pokémon Preservation Council?"
"I never even heard of that council," Mew says.
"He sure says a lot, but he never told us that," Misty says.
"He would've gotten around to it," Mew says.
Just then, Mew's Lapras friend calls out to her, and everyone heads out.
"What's up, Lapras?" Mew asks,
Lapras' calls are quickly translated by Mew.
"You want to play with us Lapras?" Mew asks.
Lapras nods to confirm.
"Misty: I'm sure Lapras has missed you a lot, Mew," Misty says.
"Cool! I'm coming, Lapras!" Mew says.
She then proceeds to hop down from the balcony and towards her old friend
"Well, they sure look happy to be together again," Misty says.
"It's no wonder. It's been a long time since they've seen each other," Brock says.
"I'm sure they must have a lot of catching up to do," Naomi adds.
Up until the sunset, Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee have been playing with Lapras.
"Wait up!" Mew calls out.
Mew soon leaps off a rock and onto Lapras' back.
Alright! Let's go!" Mew cheers.
Lapras proceeds to give Mew a ride around the bay while acting playful.
"Okay. Pretty funny, huh?" Mew says.
Lapras proceeds to leap out of the water before a massive wave shows up.
"Whoa! Let's go for it, Lapras!" Mew cheers.
Pikachu and Eevee cheers.
Lapras soon speeds up.
Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee cheer, "Yeah!"
Lapras proceeds to ride up the wave and leap right over it as Mew, Eevee, and Pikachu have a great time.
Later that night…
"Lapras, I'm so happy that you've got such a great family to live with," Mew says, "And you've really been growing up like crazy, haven't you? Your swimming is awesome, and I can tell that you've gotten super strong."
Pikachu and Eevee happily say, (So are we!)
"You oughta be really proud of the work you've done, Lapras," Mew says.
Lapras confirms that it is.
"And guess what, I've been working hard, too," Mew says and shows Lapras her badges, "Check this, I finally got the eight badges from all the Johto League gyms."
Lapras was impressed.
"Once I get to New Bark Town and register, I'm gonna be able to compete in the Johto League tournament. And I'm gonna win it, too, Lapras!" Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
Suddenly, a loud noise is heard, and it doesn't sound pleasant.
"What was that?" Mew asks.
Turns out the Lapras school was captured, prompting the rest of the group to investigate by running down to the dock.
Brock calls out, "Hey!"
"The Lapras!" Misty cries out.
"What's going on?!" Molly asks.
"Where'd this net come from?!" Naomi asks.
Just then, the Gyarados sub soon surfaces and Team Rocket quickly comes out as they perform the motto.
Jessie:
Our research warns; prepare for trouble!
James:
Our data's conclusive, so make it double!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of a string bikini.
James:
And extend our reach a teeny-weeny!
Jessie:
Jessie!
James:
James!
Jessie:
Team Rocket surfs the wind at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender now and shoot the curl or prepare to fight!
Meowth:
Meowth, dat's right!
Misty cries out, "Team Rocket!"
"You guys again?!" Tomo says, shocked.
"It appears the biggest catch of the day belongs to us," Jessie says.
Naomi demands, "Let them go!"
Suddenly, Mew's voice appears, "Stop!"
Everyone looks and sees Mew and Lapras coming in
Mew calls out, "Team Rocket, you won't get away with it!"
"Pika Pika!" (Not on our watch!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee!" (That's right!) Eevee calls out.
"The twerp!" Jessie says, shocked.
Dumb enough to woik!" Meowth says.
Then James calls out, "Kay, Weezing, it's your turn! Go, now!"
Weezing comes out.
"Okay, Lapras, Ice Beam!" Mew calls out.
Lapras charges for the attack.
But James calls out, "Smokescreen, now!"
Weezing launches the attack, blinding Lapras.
"That smoke!" Misty says.
Mew cries out, "I can't see a thing!
Team Rocket is soon shown to be back inside their sub.
"Perfect, now, high speed launch!" Jessie says.
They pedal into the smoke and make their escape, but Lapras instinctively follows its school upon hearing them while the rest of the gang heads into Naomi's submarine.
Naomi says, "Quick, everyone inside!"
"Okay!" Everyone replies.
As everyone climbs in the sub, further out to sea, Mew continues his pursuit of Team Rocket while the trio watch through the sub's periscope.
"I'll say this for the twerp, she's persistent," Jessie says.
James reassures, "Don't worry about him, I borrowed some extra dough and had turbo power installed in this Mega Gyarados."
"Don't forget de all new scuba feature! All systems go!" Meowth says
Soon, the scuba feature kicks in as the sub dives down.
"Now this is a blast!" Team Rocket says.
On the surface, Mew and Lapras stop.
"I don't see them," Mew says, looking around, "Guess they got away by going underwater."
"Pika." (Blast it.) Pikachu says.
Soon, Naomi's sub shows up with Misty peeking out the entry hatch)
She calls out, "Mew! Hurry, come inside with us!"
"You got it!" Mew says, and hurry over.
Lapras soon dives underwater.
"Hold on tight, we're gonna follow Lapras," Naomi says.
"Okay!" Everyone replies.
Then Naomi says, "Prepare to blow the ballast tanks and initiate the sodium ionizer! Supersonic radar, ready! S.S. Innocent Pearl, prepare to submerge!"
Soon, the Innocent Pearl dives down.
"Don't worry, guys. We're on our way and I'll save you!" Mew says, determined.
The Innocent Pearl darts to the rescue.
Inside the Mega Gyarados sub, Team Rocket laughs in triumph as they zoom through the water.
"It's so nice to travel in style for a change," Jessie says.
"Yeah, dat turbo charger packs da punch of a Machoke!" Meowth agree.s
"But more importantly of all, we don't have to pedal anymore!" James says.
Wobbuffet then comes out and says, Wobbuffet!" (Ecstasy!)
"Now who invited you to this party?" Jessie questions.
Suddenly, the sub begins to shake.
"What's going on here? I thought we were on autopilot," Jessie questions.
Team Rocket soon sees the Lapras struggling to break loose.
"Da Lapras are going looney!" Meowth cries out.
After struggling, one of the Lapras manages to break the net, making a hole for the whole school to escape through, to Team Rocket's shock.
"And now they've gnawed the net!" James cries out.
"I will not lose another Lapras!" Jessie angrily says. Then turns to Meowth, "Meowth, emergency resurface so we can go up and mend that net!"
"Aye aye," Meowth says.
The sub points upwards, but only three Lapras remain in the net and the sub slows down drastically.
"Hey, what gives?! let's hit the gas!" Jessie demands.
"We're... Gassed... Out," Meowth says, nervously.
Then James notices something, "Eek! That's not all! Look!"
Jessie and James look ahead and find whirlpools right in front of them, and soon they and two remaining Lapras get sucked in.
"It's some kind of watery whirlwind!" James cries out.
"Meowth, pull up on the stick!" Jessie panics.
"But we ain't got no stick!" Meowth cries out.
Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"
The rest of the Lapras school looks on in worry for the two remaining Lapras.
Meanwhile, the group in the sub continue to follow Mew's Lapras.
Then Mew notices, "Hey, guys. Looks like Lapras might've seen something."
"I sure hope it's that net," Misty says.
Naomi notices on the radar, "I see a blip on the radar screen, but there's no telling what it is yet. Whatever it is, we have to follow it!"
Lapras calls out and the school answers, prompting it to go faster until it and our heroes find the school.
"The Lapras!" Tomo says.
Lapras approaches its school.
"Somehow, they managed to get out of the net!" Naomi says.
"And away from Team Rocket!" Mew says,
"That's so great!" Misty says.
"I guess we're lucky that Team Rocket messed everything up as usual," Brock says.
However, Lapras realizes something's off, and the school confirms it.
Naomi notices, "Wait, hold on a minute, it looks like a couple of the Lapras are missing!"
"She's right. The leader and Lapras' mom aren't here!" Misty says.
"Where do you think they could've gone?" Molly asks, worried.
Then Brock grows even more worried, "I sure hope they're not caught up in that cyclone!"
"I hope so, too," Mew says, worried.
Lapras rallies the others and they all swim to the surface.
"Mew, it seems like your Lapras knows something," Brock says.
"But I'm not detecting anything like what we're looking for on this radar. Somehow they're communicating with each other to guide their movement," Naomi says.
The Innocent Pearl follows the school into the whirlpool.
"Naomi, they're really singing their hearts out," Misty says.
"But will anyone be able to hear it over the sound of this current?!" Brock says.
Lapras calls out.
Mew calls out, "I know you can do it, Lapras!"
"I'm getting something on my audio radar!" Naomi says.
"Great!" Mew says, relieved.
The sound is soon heard.
"Is it them?" Tomo asks.
": Yes, it's their travel song. We're hearing those two missing Lapras!" Naomi says.
"It's amazing we can hear them at all," Misty says.
"So if we can hear them singing, than the others must be able to hear them, too!" Brock says.
And Naomi says, "The Lapras have the ability to distinguish the faintest of their songs, even with this much background noise. They can hear the songs of their friends from miles away that our most advanced radars could never detect!"
"Lapras are awesome!" Mew says.
"Well, the radar's showing they're on a nearby island, so let's hurry!" Naomi says.
Up on the surface, Team Rocket is shown to have come ashore on the island as the Leader Lapras and Lapras' mom struggle to escape the net.
"Why is it, no matter how much we spend on stuff, we still manage to get soaked?" Jessie asks.
"Wobbuffet!" (Cause we're evil!) Wobbuffet says.
"All of dat dough on da toibo boost, but we had to pinch pennies wit da net," Meowth says.
And James says, "Well, I guess that two Lapras are still better than none, right?"
The Lapras continue to cry out.
"Pipe down with that whining, now!" Jessie demands the two Lapras, but they won't listen.
She continues to scold them, "Stop it, or I'll really give you something to cry about!"
Jessie soon notices the whole Lapras school start to surface.
"Hey!" Jessie says.
"Well, isn't this convenient?" James replies
"Dat crying must of brought de udders back!" Meowth says
They soon notice the Innocent Pearl surface.
Mew is the first to speak out, "Not so fast! Give those two back, now!"
"Pika Pika!" (Let the leader go!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee!" (And let go of Lapras'mom!) Eevee adds.
Jessie refuses, "No way!"
"We want more than two!" James says.
"Sos what we'll do…" Meowth says.
"Is steal yours from you!" Jessie says and throws her Pokeball, "Go, Arbok!"
James does the same, "Go, Weezing!"
Both Pokemon come out.
"Eevee, ready?" Mew says.
But Brock says, "Wait! I got this! Go, Crobat!"
And Crobat comes out.
Brock calls out, "Sonic Boom, Crobat! Let's go!"
Crobat performs the attack and stops Weezing and Arbok in their tracks.
Jessie cries out, "Arbok, no!"
"Dear Weezing!" James cries out.
The rest of the group rush to the captured Pokemon.
"Come on! Let's go free the Lapras! Naomi says.
"Right!" Tomo and the girls reply.
But then, Meowth steps in.
"Watch it!" Meowth says, and unsheathes his claws, "Dis rebel is not without claws!"
Mew calls out, "Quick Attack, let's go!"
Eevee darts in and takes Meowth out, knocking him down.
Mew checks on the Lapras with Tomo and the girls.
"Are these two okay?" Jen asks.
"Let's lift up the net!" Naomi says.
The net's quickly and easily removed, allowing Mew's Lapras and its mother to reunite.
But Jessie interrupts the reunion, "Sorry to bust up the reunion! Arbok!"
"Yes, it was touching, but, Weezing!" James says.
Both Pokémon charge.
But then, Lapras instructs the other Lapras in the school to fire an Ice Beam along with it. That freezes Arbok and Weezing into an ice block and lands on Team Rocket.
"Okay! Pikachu, let's finish it with Thunder, now! Eevee, you too!" Mew calls out.
Both attacks hit and destroy the submarine, sending Team Rocket flying.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Wobbuffet cries out, "Wooobbu Wooo!" (Someone help!)
Pikachu and Eevee land on Mew's shoulder.
Then Mew says, "Way to go, that was great!"
"Pika Pika. (Thank you, buddy.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee!" (thanks.) Eevee says.
Brock cheers, "Alright!"
"Nice work, Mew. Thank you," Naomi says.
The entire school thanks Mew's Lapras for all it did to save them. The leader Lapras looks at Mew's Lapras, almost like he's thinking of an important decision. Lapras' mom thinks the same, especially how grown her son is. The Leader Lapras nods in reply.
The next day…
"It was great seeing you again, Lapras. You, and your mom and everyone else," Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"You all take care of each other, okay?" Misty says.
"I don't think you'll have to worry about Team Rocket ever bothering you again," Brock says.
Lapras happily agrees.
Soon, Mew's Lapras bids farewell and the leader leads the school away.
Everyone waves goodbye, "Bye, Lapras!"
"Come back sometime!" Naomi says.
The Leader Lapras then talks to Mew's Lapras. And Lapras makes a surprised expression.
"I wonder what they're saying," Misty wonders.
"It's hard to tell because they're far away for me to hear it," Tomo says.
And Brock says,"It looks to me like the leader might be asking Mew's Lapras to take over the lead."
Mew's Lapras happily agrees and swims out in front, leading the entire school further out to sea.
"There was a handover," Naomi says.
"What do you mean by a handover?" Molly asks.
"You see, the leader was so impressed with Mew's Lapras' maturity, it decided to hand over its leadership duties," Naomi says.
"Really? So that's what just happened," Mew asks, surprised. But then smiles.
She then calls out to Lapras, "That's so cool, Lapras! I'm proud of you!"
The Pokemon shouts and congratulates Mew's Lapras for becoming the next leader of the Pod.
"Who would've thought that your Lapras would be the next leader?" Misty replies.
"And knowing how young Lapras is, think of the great things that lie ahead," Brock says.
"You're right," Mew says, "Just like Lapras, I'm gonna work really hard, too, and then, someday, I'll be a Pokemon master!"
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
The Lapras school fades into the distance as Lapras lets out one last cry.
Later, Mew and the group contact Professor Elm.
"Sounds to me like you had quite an adventure," Professor Elm says.
"We did," Naomi says, "And thanks to these talented folks, I can complete my thesis. But I can't thank you all enough."
"It was nothing. And seeing Lapras was enough for me," Mew says.
"And now that you've got that egg, Mew, I hope you won't mind bringing it to my lab as soon as you possibly can, alright?" Professor Elm says.
"Sure. You got it," Mew says.
A bit later, Naomi and Lanturn bid Mew and her friends farewell.
Naomi says goodbye, "Bye! You guys be careful, now!"
"Don't worry! You take care, too!" Misty calls out.
Brock says, "K! See you later!"
"That's a deal, Brock! Mew, take good care of that egg!" Naomi says.
"And so, with the Pokémon egg safely in hand and memories of Lapras on their minds, Mew and her friends continue their journey to Professor Elm, New Bark Town, and the Johto League.
