In the weeks that followed, Sakura focused on her recovery. She lost any use of her right arm and left leg, so physical therapy was recommended.

During her rehabilitation, Kakashi continued to visit Sakura regularly. He brought flowers, books, and anything that might lift her spirits. However, the conversations between them remained surface-level, avoiding the elephant in the room—the unspoken emotions and unresolved issues.

One day, as Sakura struggled with her physical therapy, Kakashi sat by her side, offering silent support. The air was heavy with unspoken words, and Sakura finally broke the silence.

"Kakashi, we need to talk," Sakura said, her voice determined.

Kakashi nodded, his visible eye reflecting a mix of apprehension and readiness. "I've been waiting for you to bring it up."

Sakura took a deep breath before starting. "I need to know, Kakashi. Why are you doing this?"

Kakashi met Sakura's gaze, his expression earnest. "Because I love you."

"Love?" Sakura asked. "All throughout our relationship, you never told me that you love me. Isn't that the reason why it's so easy for you to discard me."

Kakashi looked at Sakura, his gaze intense and sincere. "Sakura, I do love you. I may not have said it explicitly, but my actions, or lack thereof, were not a reflection of my feelings for you. I pushed you away because I thought it was for your own good, but I see now that I was wrong. I failed you, and I'm sorry."

Sakura's eyes held a mix of emotions, and she nodded slowly. "I need more than just words, Kakashi. I need to understand why you thought pushing me away was the right thing to do."

Kakashi sighed, running a hand through his silver hair. "I've always been accustomed to a solitary life. I didn't think I was capable of being in a relationship, of being what you needed. I thought I was protecting you from a future of limitations and restraints. But now, I realize that love doesn't have to be restrictive. It's about supporting each other, and I want to be there for you."

Sakura listened to Kakashi's explanation, her expression a mix of understanding and contemplation. The weight of his words hung in the air, and she took a moment to absorb the sincerity in his eyes.

"I appreciate your honesty, Kakashi," Sakura said, her voice steady. "But you have to understand that pushing me away didn't protect me. It hurt me. It made me feel like I wasn't enough. That you never really cared. Apart from the first two weeks, you're cold and distant."

Kakashi's shoulders slumped with the weight of Sakura's words, realizing the impact of his actions on her. "Sakura, I know I hurt you, and I can't change the past. But I want to make things right. I love you, and I want to be there for you, however you need me to be."

Sakura looked at him with pained expression. Her eyes are swimming in tears. "I would have love to hear that months ago. But I don't want it now."

"I understand, Sakura," Kakashi replied, his voice filled with regret. "I know I can't undo the pain I've caused. But I'm here now, and I want to support you in any way you'll allow me to. If that means giving you the space you need, I'll respect it. Just tell me what you want."

Sakura took a deep breath, wiping away a stray tear. "I need you to stay away from me, Kakashi. And the moment that I have a clearance for missions I want you to put me on a mission far away from Konoha, for a long time that is possible."

Kakashi felt a pang of sorrow at Sakura's request, he took her hand in his. "Can't you reconsider, Sakura? I need you here."

"If you need me, why did you push me away?" Sakura asked him, her eyes begging him to answer her.

Kakashi took a moment before responding, his grip on Sakura's hand tightening. "I'm afraid. I'm afraid of being dependent on you. I'm afraid of being tied down. I thought, you wanted to tie me down to responsibilities and relationship that you want. I didn't realize that you never once tried to make me fit in a mold that you want. Now, all I can think of are my mistakes. The regret. I love you and I can't help but regret my decisions."

"Thank you for making me understand, Kakashi." Sakura whispered. "But I can't be with someone who sees a future with me as a burden, as a restraint. I need to be with someone who doesn't see commitment as a chain, but as a choice. I deserve someone who wants to build a future with me, not someone who's constantly looking for an escape."

Kakashi's heart sank at Sakura's words, the weight of his mistakes bearing down on him. He released her hand, nodding with a sense of resignation.

"I understand, Sakura. If that's what you need, I'll respect your decision," he said, his voice tinged with sorrow. "I'll arrange a the mission as soon as you're cleared."

Sakura nodded, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sadness and determination. "Thank you, Kakashi. I need this time to find myself again, to heal without the constant reminders of what could have been."

Kakashi stood up, his gaze lingering on Sakura for a moment longer before he turned to leave. The room felt heavy with unspoken emotions, a sense of loss hanging in the air.

As Kakashi walked away from Sakura's room, he couldn't shake the realization that his fear of commitment had cost him the person he loved. The journey of self-discovery and redemption stretched before him, and he knew he had a long road ahead.
