The golden rays of sun from the dawns early light broke through the curtains that hung in Kagura's room. The light fell upon both the girls eyes, causing both of them to awaken. Kagura's eyes slowly flickered open, followed by Sakaki's. Kagura stretched out her body and then peered over the side of her bed, seeing that Sakaki was just waking up too. "Morning." She said to her friend. "Good morning." Sakaki softly spoke back. "How'd you sleep?" Kagura asked as Sakaki rubbed the sleep crust out of her eyes. "Fine. How about you?"
"I slept ok."
"The sun's pretty bright." Sakaki commented, moving her head out of the way of the sunlight. "Yeah, I know." Acknowledged Kagura. "I really need to get some new curtains."
Kagura's stomach then began to rumble again. "Do you want some breakfast?" She asked her friend. "Sure." Sakaki replied. Kagura and Sakaki then got out of bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. Kagura then offered to cook some scrambled eggs for the two of them, to which Sakaki agreed. She then opened up one of the cabinets and reached inside, pulling out a large glass bowl. Sakaki became confused very quickly. "Don't we need a frying pan?" She objected as Kagura placed the bowl on the counter. The tomboy turned around and batted her hand in front of Sakaki. "Nah, we don't need one of those." She confirmed. "Trust me, my dad taught me how to make these." Sakaki decided to let her friend take the lead and helped to the best of her extent. She handed Kagura the milk from the fridge and helped her dispose of the egg shells. Kagura then placed the bowl in the microwave and bought out a couple of smaller, ceramic bowls from the cabinet. After placing them down on the counter, she had Sakaki set place mats down on the table and handed her a pair of forks. Sakaki bought the cutlery over to the table then sat down, patiently waiting for her friend to serve breakfast. After a couple minutes, Kagura walked over with the scrambled eggs and placed them in front of Sakaki. "Bone apple tea!" She told her friend before giving thanks. Sakaki followed suit, then decided to correct her friend. "What you said just now..." The tall black haired girl began.
"Mrmph?" Kagura asked, her mouth full with eggs.
"You said bone apple tea, right?"
Kagura gulped the eggs down then nodded her head. "Yeah, why?"
"It's actually pronounced 'Bon Appetite'." Explained Sakaki. Kagura felt a little embarrassed. "Oh, I gotcha. Thanks." She thanked her friend, who nodded back to her.
The two friends continued to eat their eggs in peace. Once they were finished, Kagura bought the dishes over to the sink and filled all the bowls up with water. "Your dad taught you how to make eggs, right?" Asked Sakaki as the two climbed back up the stairs. "Yep, he sure did." Affirmed Kagura.
"Where is your dad?" Sakaki asked.
"He's away on business." Explained Kagura. "What can I say? He's a busy guy."
The two girls spent the rest of the morning playing more Pokemon together, until Sakaki decided to leave in the early afternoon. "I'll see you on Monday." Sakaki said, bowing in the doorway. "You too!" Kagura answered, bowing back. Sakaki took her leave, and Kagura closed the door behind her. She went back up to her room and laid down on the bed, smiling a little because of the good time she had with her friend. A few moments later, her phone began to right. She sprung right up and grabbed her phone from the small bookcase.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Hey Kagura, it's me, Kaorin!" Kaorin said.
"Oh hey Kaorin, what's up!" Kagura asked excitedly.
"Are you doing anything tomorrow?" She asked her friend. Kagura thought for a moment.
"Hmm, I don't think so, why? How come?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to have one more sleep over before we went back to school."
"Ah woah, that sounds awesome! Will Chihiro be there?"
"Sadly no, Chihiro said she wanted to start being more responsible."
"Oh, I see. Well hey, I'm game if you are!" Kagura excitedly confirmed with her friend.
"Can you be here around 5?" Kaorin asked.
"You bet I can!" Answered Kagura.
"Alright then, I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Bye!"
"Bye!"
Kagura hung up the phone first, then Kaorin. She placed the phone next to her on the bed and stood up to do a little victory dance. After her dance was over, she exited her room to let her mother know the news. Her mother cautioned her not to stay up too late, but was otherwise fine with her having a friend over. Kaorin entered back into her room, where she closed the door behind her and booted up her Wii. She took out the Mariokart disc and put in Donkey Kong Country Returns, then positioned herself comfortably on the bed to play the game.
Later on that night, she found herself unable to fall asleep. Her eyes were softly shut and her arms were wrapped tightly around Penguin. In Kaorin's mins, get cardinal desires waged war against her soul, for she still longed for a relationship with Sakaki but knew it wouldn't be wise, for even if she did decide to pursue something with the girl it would weigh down on her conscious like a fleet of a thousand dreadnaughts. Every time she caught herself thinking about Sakaki, she wrestled with her ideals inside her head over and over, until ultimately the truth prevailed: that she would never, ever be able to achieve a true, satisfying relationship with the one person she adored most in her life. Not until the end of the world. As she gradually became more and more tired, her eyelids slowly became heavier, and her mind drifted away into abstract thought. The night for Kaorin came to a close, and she fell asleep peacefully with Penguin in her arms.
