Special Child
If there were some suitable words to describe him... those would be a mutation, a freak, an improbability... and who knows what else.
After all, no one like him had ever been recorded in the entire history of the body's existence.
This cell was sitting in a corner of the bone marrow. Unlike all erythroblasts and myelocytes who played or trained... he was rather looking at the sky.
It wasn't as if he could approach to make friends with any of these other cells anyway.
They would call it a Pink Cell, an abomination, and much worse things depending on how good imagination and vocabulary the other children had.
While it was true that he was one of a kind, he wasn't horrible either. His mother had always told him that.
One thing is certain, having a toy knife scared erythroblasts, while myelocytes gave him confused looks because of his red clothes.
It's not like he really cared about it, he was used to it after all...
He just wondered ...
Why didn't his mother just educate him at home? what was the point of him being there if his mother already knew everything he needed to know?
He waved his fake knife sometimes to entertain himself. He could imagine his father and him, side by side, combating against multiple bacteria and any kind of enemies.
And he truly wished that would become a dream come true one day... but he knew that the most probable answer was a total no.
Since he arrived at this place for the first time, he had been classified primarily as a red cell.
One could only wonder under what criteria they had chosen this ... luck? For anybody else, it was likely an answer... but he had definitely heard his parents chose this the previous day to his first day of class in order to keep him away from danger... it is not like there was some program for a hybrid anyway.
His food was also unique in comparison. Although he did not demonstrate it with his facial expressions at school, he loved those remnants of Pneumococcus sweetened with glucose.
As he heard the bell, he knew it was time to return to inside.
He didn't bother to go through the corridors, that would have ensured he would be surrounded by erythroblasts. He instead used his skill to migrate. He had entered the classroom without having to use the door at all.
This advantage always allowed him to choose the seat he preferred the most.
So he sat on one of those by the window, in the back part of the room. All this reduced the number of erythroblasts that would be next to him and, of course, allowed him to watch outside. Sometimes that was much more interesting.
As Miss Macrophage started handing back the tests from the previous day, he simply yawned. He was quite relaxed compared to the others who immediately started to panic followed by relief or disappointment depending on how much they had paid attention to their teacher.
As he watched the paper, he gave his teacher a confused face
He got 87 points.
Weird... this was seven points more than usual.
Technically, this was because he used to get lost a lot... and when that happened, he used his migration and strength skills to return to any familiar place and start again... the teacher wasn't sure if this could be considered as cheating since migration was something he was the only one capable of in her class... but at the same time she felt not using it would be a waste of his potential... so she never gave him a note over the 80.
At least until today...
"You are getting better at finding your way the usual way." she patted him. "I'm so proud."
"For real?..." he scratched his hair a lot.
After that, it was time for another class of running away.
As professor U-4989 got into character, all the cells started to run.
He wasn't the exception, this class was about running and he wasn't going to disobey.
However, a certain event from less than a minute ago influenced one of his choices.
"This freak is gonna get eaten very fast!"
Even if that sentence hadn't bothered him that much, this brought him memories from when his mother had told him her history, the time when she still was an erythroblast.
This had wakened up inside of him a feeling... a feeling that could be described as the mix of his mother's kind nature and his father's rage killer instincts...
It was a feeling that was very similar to what somebody had felt too a long time ago.
As that stupid red cell was running towards where the hybrid was hiding, the hybrid didn't hesitate at putting his foot on the way.
After that, he then kicked him a few times to ensure he wouldn't get up fast enough. It was true the professor wasn't a real bacteria... but in the deepest part of him... he wished the professor was one at the moment he ran away to find another place to hide.
It's not like U-4989 and the Macrophage didn't notice this. That was the explanation for why he was now inside the classroom alone and sitting by the corner.
If he desired to escape, it surely wasn't hard. He would just need to use his migration and that's it. Yet, it's not like he wanted to go anywhere.
He didn't even sleep at the bone marrow like all the other children, that would be a bad idea. There wasn't a way to get him a room only for him... and even if his roommates didn't bully him, that would be a very awkward experience.
Because of this, the reason he stayed there was that he was waiting.
Outside the room, a neutrophil and the miss necrophage were having a little chat.
U-1146 gave a worried expression as he rubbed the right side of his forehead. "So that happened..."
"He has been escalating that behavior the more the other children are mean to him." the lady sighed with a sad smile.
"I'll see what I can do, sorry for that."
"It's okay." she shrugged. "It's not really his fault."
U-1146 entered the room, he approached slowly.
"It's time to go home." he smiled and tried his best to show kindness.
His little boy slowly turned around... his eyes didn't meet U-1146's ones, he was looking slightly to the left. His mouth also displayed that emotion. Being ashamed.
"I just want you to know daddy is not mad at you," U-1146 said this as he began to carry the little hybrid with his shoulders. "I know you don't get along with the others... and I know they don't treat you well... but what you did is wrong."
His boy didn't respond anything. Not even when they finally left the bone marrow.
As every day, the hybrid heard other cells whispering about him. Again, he didn't care at this point.
Suddenly, his father stopped.
The hybrid wondered why... but when he saw the cause... he couldn't help but smile like a baby.
"Konichiwa!"
"Oni-chan white cell!"
And who couldn't smile at these precious creations? it almost seemed that they were designed to be the cutest thing ever existed.
His father seemed to agree as he patted them. "Cute, cute, very cute. How is working doing?"
The poor cute platelets suddenly were a little sad. "Anone anone (you see, you see), we again have a problem with the materials."
As U-1146 stood up to help... he noticed his boy already trying his best to open one of the boxes.
U-1146 laughed. He removed the superior box and told him. "Try with the other one."
The hybrid growled as the box moved slowly... very slowly... finally, it touched the ground. He grabbed the tool... and, after three seconds, the box was opened.
"Sugoi!" some of the platelets clapped.
"Arigatou, oni-chan." one of those cute angel things hugged him to thank him.
"Y-Y-You're welcome..." he rolled his eyes... but still displaying a smile.
Another one, however, was curious regarding certain detail. "Why is your hair white?"
"Eh... well..." he scratched his head's back part.
His father patted him as he responded. "Let's say that... he's my little boy."
"Little boy?"
"Eeeh?!"
"What does that mean?"
U-1146 cleared his throat as he spoke, his cheeks becoming a little red. "Well... you see... when a red blood cell and a white blood cell love each other so much... the body blesses them with their own baby cell."
It took them a while to understand what he meant. Meanwhile, his son covered his face with both his hands. What kind of silly answer was that?...
"So, is oni-chan a pink blood cell?" the platelet that had hugged him asked.
U-1146 felt tension... only to sigh in relief when his son answered.
"Technically speaking, yes..." regardless of how ashamed he was, he smiled genuinely as he caressed her hair.
Had any of his classmates said that they would have received a punch... but these were the platelets...
"What's your name?" another one asked.
"UA-3846."
"That's a cool name."
"I suppose..."
U-1146 smiled at all this and shook his head.
But of course, they had to return home.
UA-3846 waved his hand to say goodbye to the "cute angels".
After some more walking until the section of the right arm, Both cells finally reached the place they were returning to.
The door of the apartment had a code: AE-3803.
The neutrophil opened the door. He quickly let his son walk, it wasn't something he hadn't seen before as UA-3846 ran towards his mother.
The Erythrocyte didn't waste time as she carried her baby and hugged him tightly.
"Mommy!"
AE-3803 had a smile similar to Miss Macrophage's one. "Mommy missed you too, my baby."
U-1146 kissed AE-3803. "And I missed you, too."
"How was your day?"
"An abrasion on the little toe, nothing out from usual."
"I've always wondered what's wrong with that place, the number of abrasions that happen there is strangely high." she scratched her cheek at the same time she kissed her little boy on the head.
"I wish I knew too." he laughed. "The level of bad luck of that place is difficult to believe."
AE-3803 smiled sadly. "I just hope he hasn't inherited that other aspect from us."
"Yeah..." U-1146 also gave a worried expression. "The good thing is U-2048 told me he was going to bring us the rests of the Staphylococcus aureus."
"I'm sure UA-38 is happy about this."
UA-3846 only made a noise of confirmation... he did an "hai!" just like the platelets.
After the dinner, it was time for the little boy to get some rest, Ae-3803 placed him on his bed as she kissed him on the head again. "Have sweet dreams."
The erythrocyte left the room and was preparing herself to have one of those dates at home with her husband... but as someone knocked on the door, she knew it would have to wait.
U-1146 opened the door to reveal... Dendritic Cell.
"It's nice to see you again." he smiled.
"Dendritic" both weren't expecting him to appear at their house. AE-38 spoke first "It's nice to see you too but... why aren't you at your post?"
"It's not like your visit mind us but... it's weird." U-11 commented.
"It's okay, I'll try to do not take much of your time..." he said as he sat on one of the chairs. "Where is your son?"
"Sleeping," AE said.
"Good, it would cause a mess if he heard all this."
U-11 crossed his arms and frowned. "Why?"
Dendritic sighed, leaving behind his normal nature of a teaser. "I was ordered to watch him, monitor his behavior since the very day he was born." he rubbed his forehead. "Your boy is very special... and some of my superiors aren't sure if that special nature can transform him... into a threat."
"That's bullshit!" U-1146 yelled.
"That's right, he's just an innocent baby!" AE-3803 displayed fury as she hit the table.
Dendritic raised his hand a little to give them a signal to ask them to relax. "I know, but you cannot also deny this."
He placed on the table another of his photo albums... and all of them were of UA-3846 fighting against other erythroblasts and sometimes myelocytes. "Make no mistake, we understand all of this is the fault of the other cells who don't show him any respect... but the T Lymphocytes fear that all of this could cause a scenario similar to... similar to..." he sighed.
"Similar to what?!" both parents demanded to know.
"Similar to Cancer..."
Both U-1146 and AE-3803 remained silent for at least a minute.
"Is this some kind of twisted joke?" The neutrophil displayed a rage even scarier than the one he usually gave to his enemies.
"How dare them to compare him with... with that monster..." AE-3803 frowned.
"I know this is difficult for you to understand, and I myself don't want him to end up like that, but his own nature of killer instincts and pure of "heart" allows him to decide whether he wants to work for the body or not... you must have heard of it today, U-1146."
"What does he mean?" AE-3803 asked.
"The Macrophage told me... that in the class of running away... he tackled and kicked another cell to allow the "bacteria" to capture him." U-1146 gulped.
AE-3803 covered her mouth with both hands.
"I'm not here to scare you," Denditric said. "I just wanted to warn you of what can happen if your son does not get enough love to feel appreciated. Unlike Cancer, we can help him."
Ae, who was still in shock, nodded slowly. "I see."
"I'm not gonna let that happen..." he held his wife's hand. "He'll be the happiest boy that ever existed in the body, I promise it."
"Your promises are always reliable," Denditric smiled. "You always demonstrated that on the battlefield. That's what made you earn the title of the strongest neutrophil of all time."
As anybody would expect, Ua-3846 had never gone to sleep. He was hiding behind a door and hearing all that...
And he could just wonder something.
Who is Cancer?...
I've seen some others UA-3846 fanfics... two if I remember correctly. All of them represented the character as a girl so I thought it would be good if this time, it was a boy.
From a more realistic perspective, U-1146 survives too many attacks for what is basically the body's cannon fodder. So I think he and his partners really deserved to be recognized as powerful.
Even though the cover image represents him as a baby, it's already kinda grown up as you could read through the chapter. AE says he's a baby but that's more because you know, mother love and all that stuff. I'm not sure who is the author of the image... I was just downloading images of the OTP as If there wasn't a tomorrow.
I know the theory that says AE-3803 is actually either a Sickle Cell or a White Blood Cell raised as a Red one because of her hair... but, for the purposes of this story, she's, indeed, a normal Red Blood Cell regardless of what may happen in the canon later.
I'm sorry if my English isn't exactly the best, I speak Spanish as my mother tongue.
Originally, this only was in my Wattpad account, so don't be surprised that there's gonna be 7 chapters been released in a row.
Anyway, I hope you liked it.
