The warm lights emitted from the inside of this Purple building. Frisk looked at the sign above the door that said "MTT Resort" in bold, yellow letters. She should have guessed that Mettaton would have a resort, after all, he was the star of the Underground. She quickly saved her progress using the save point near the entrance.
A familiar Skeleton stood in front of one of the big brown pots, he seemed to be waiting for something. Frisk waved and approached him.
"Hey. I heard you're going to the core." the skeleton began "How about grabbing some dinner with me first?" He looked at her with a hidden anticipation. She was quite hungry after all day of eating junk food and candy, it would be nice to eat some real food for once. She answered with a grateful smile on her face "Yeah"
"Great, thanks for treating me." he then headed towards a dark alley to his right "Over here, I know a shortcut" he motioned with his skull. Frisk followed him, and before she knew it, everything went black for a moment. Then, they both were suddenly seated at a table in a restaurant. Calming music played in the background, everything else was just quiet. It seemed as if there weren't any other guests seated at the tables.
"Well. here we are" Frisk turned her attention to him once again. "So, Your journey's almost over, huh?" he asked. "you must really wana go home" Frisk didn't answer, and just listened in silence. She eventually breathed out and slightly nodded. "Hey. I know the feeling, buddy."
"Though... Maybe sometimes it's better to take what's given to you." he looked her in the eyes "Down here you've already got food, drink, friends..." her brows furled. She knew the monsters would probably prefer for her to stay down there with them, they considered her a friend. It's not as if she didn't want to stay, it's just that it was complicated.
"Is what you have to do... really worth it?" he turned his skull sideways and closed his eyes. Both friends stayed silent. Sans sighed defeated, there was no point in asking somebody who wasn't willing to answer. "..." he opened his eyes "Ah, forget it." he turned to face her again "I'm rooting for ya, kid" and looked away again. Frisk didn't know what to say, so she put on a slightly smaller smile this time. It's not as if he would understand if she told her.
The skeleton turned to face again, this time with a happier expression on his skull "Hey, let me tell you a story..."
"Now, I hate making promises. And this woman, I don't even know her name." Frisk listened with anticipation to the story, she knew what woman Sans was referring to "But... Someone who sincerely likes bad jokes... Has an integrity you can't say no to" Then, his smile noticeably wavered and he looked away once again. Frisk waited for him to continue, to tell her more. It was genuinely a nice rest from running away from people trying to kill her all of the time. For some reason tho, she had a bad feeling about what was going to happen next. She straightened up in her seat.
The music that played in the background stopped, Sans turned to look at her, this time with a serious expression on his face. "Do you get what I'm saying? That promise I made to her.." he said in a serious voice "You know what would happen if she hadn't said anything?" Frisk's smile wiped off her face, a serious expression replaced it. She had no idea what would happen next.
The skeleton closed his eyes "Buddy..." when he opened them again, there was no light inside "... You'd be dead where you stand." he closed his eyes again. Frisk observed him, she didn't seem threatened by this.
She looked away and smiled. Sans' expression turned normal once again. "You know..." she began solemnly, yet a small smile wavered on her lips "I wouldn't care if you were to kill me. So far everybody tried, but not everybody succeeded." she closed her eyes and leaned back. Sans slightly tilted his head. It's not the reaction he expected from somebody who just got threatened. "What are you saying?"
She sighed and shook her head, almost disappointed. The atmosphere in the restaurant, normally warm and friendly, was filled with tension and anticipation. Frisk eventually found the courage to tell Sans a secret. "Let's say I have... a special ability." Sans listened patiently. "To explain it to you in simple terms, let me tell you a story..."
Frisk fell on the cold, hard ground. The "friendliness pellets" weren't all that friendly after all. Flowey's grin widened maniacly. Frisk breath quickened as she tried to protect herself from further harm. She put her shaking hands in front of herself, hoping it would shelter her from further attacks. "YOU IDIOT." the flower said. "IN THIS WORLD, IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED"
"WHY WOULD ANYONE PASS UP AN OPPORTUNITY LIKE THIS?!" he continued, and suddenly, hundreds of white bullets surrounded the human in a circle, Frisk's eyes widened at the sight of them. "DIE" Flowey laughed like the true maniac he was, his laughter sounded all across the dark room. The bullets rapidly shot towards Frisk, piercing right through her skin. The last thing she remembered was the feeling of her soul-shattering into a thousand pieces.
Frisk slowly opened her teary eyes. Somehow, she was unharmed. She looked around, but all that was in front of her was darkness. Suddenly, two yellow buttons appeared just in her reach. Her vision adjusted to the unexpected light, and she read what was written on these buttons.
[CONTINUE] ❤ [RESTART]
Frisk's eyebrows furled in confusion, is this what death looked like? She hesitantly reached her hand towards the continue button. When her hand came in contact with it, her silhouette lightened up with a red color. Everything went dark once again, but this time, she wasn't afraid.
Frisk laid on the flower bed for what seemed to be an eternity. Eventually, the girl sat up and put her hands in front of herself, they were fine. She sighed nervously and curled into a ball, defeated. It's not as if she didn't want to come back, it's just that now she will have to encounter that flower again. It scared her how easily he murdered her, and there probably were more monsters like this in this place.
She stood up and headed to the room with the devious flower. Her back was arched in fear, and her shoulders tensed up at the sight of Flowey. He didn't notice her at first. She approached him as quietly as she could, but the flower still felt every single one of her movements in his roots. He smiled and turned to see the young girl.
"Howdy! I'm Flowey. Flowey the flower!" she stared at him with fear in her eyes, she didn't want to die again. "Hmm... You're new to the underground, aren' tcha?" he asked. What was going on? She shook her head. Flowey's smile wavered so slightly.
"You already... you already introduced yourself. Why are you doing this again?" she asked nervously. It seemed to wipe the flower's smile off of its face. "Please don't kill me" she whispered, and tears escaped her eyes, she started sobbing. Flowey stared at her, he knew exactly what was going on.
"and it was like that every time I 'died.'" she quoted with her hands "I just come back again and again and again. I'm still not sure if it's a curse or a blessing" she continued. "It hurt worse every time. It's the reason I don't want to stay in the underground. I hate feeling my soul shatter" Sans stared at her with empty eye sockets. Shock is an understatement of what he felt at that moment.
"And you know what's the worst part about it?" she smiled sarcastically "Nobody will ever remember what happened. No one will ever remember how much pain they caused me. But if I hurt anybody, everybody is gonna remember!" she crossed her arms. "And yeah, that's my special ability or rather a curse disguised as one," Frisk remarked. Her eyes teared up, but she didn't dare to cry.
Sans sat in silence. The air in the restaurant felt heavy, the once cozy ambiance now tingled with an awkward tension. He could never fully grasp the gravity of Frisk's abilities, but he could clearly sense the pain and frustration flowing in her words. After a prolonged silence, he sighed deeply.
"I'm not sure what to say. The power you're describing, it's called DETERMINATION." he looked at her with compassion radiating from within. "I know that power. But, I don't understand one thing." Frisk listened attentively "Why are you telling me this?" his question echoed throughout the room. She stared at him. Uncomfortable silence filled the room, this was not what was supposed to happen.
"I don't know" she replied. "I just thought you might tell me more about it" Her eyes fell to the floor. It's not what she expected him to say, it's not how this was supposed to go. "besides, I trust you." she almost whispered. Sans didn't say a word. It's clearly not how this was supposed to go. She shouldn't have said anything, she should have just stayed quiet. She looked around the room. Sans observed her every move with hesitance in his look, he wasn't sure what to do, and the best solution was to repeat this whole conversation. Frisk was looking for a knife.
She'd seen death over and over again. Would one more time hurt as much, or even more? And this time, she will be the one causing it. There's no way he could grasp the pain. There was no way to make him understand. The thoughts spiraled further and further. The ambiance in the background felt suffocating her with its tones. Frisk had nothing to lose, it would be as if nothing ever happened. Eventually, she spotted it. A shiny blade was right amongst the cluttery in front of her, how did she not notice it before? Sans was still watching her, he didn't do anything. But as she stared at the knife, he knew he needed to answer. He looked away and said
"I don't know much about this power of yours, except that it's a huge burden. People turn into maniacs with determination." After a momentary pause, he sighed "Before you were here, Flowey had enough determination to use the same powers as you, and you see how it ended." Frisk didn't pay attention to him and sneakily hid the knife since he wasn't looking. His eyes drifted back to her as finally started paying attention. "I don't want you to be anything like him. It's dangerous." he leaned further in his chair. "You might start seeing life as if it was a game, and treat us as if we're puppets or something, I don't know." he shrugged.
"But I won't view life as a game, that would be... cruel," she said. her voice seemed weaker now than before. "Besides, Flowey... Flowey doesn't have a soul. But I... I do have a soul!" her speech was slurred, but she was determined.
"kid, it doesn't matter if you do or don't have a soul, it's all about determination, and how you use it. Flowey used to be cool, but this power messed him up" the skeleton remarked, but there was barely any reaction from Frisk, she just looked down defeated. "I'm just worried, okay? I don't want the same thing to happen to you. He closed his eyes and breathed in slowly before opening them again. Frisk didn't move an inch in that time.
eventually, she smiled weakly and looked at him, but her eyes were empty. She wasn't paying attention, She had no reason to. This timeline can and will come to a stop with a mere motion of the hand separating life and death. All she had to do, was wait to bleed out. Sans was saying something to her, she didn't care. She already used the knife to slit her wrist. It should take five more minutes for her to lose consciousness, and maybe thirty to die. It's exciting, dying for the first time, but this time having full control over it. No bullets pierced through her, no fire burned her down, this death will probably be the most peaceful one she will ever have.
"Erm, are you okay?" Sans asked. Frisk leaned in closer, still hiding her hands under the table. A small pool of blood formed on the floor, yet it went unnoticed. She shrugged and answered, "Yeah I'm fine. I'm thinking of what you said." she tried to focus on him, but it proved to be hard when your goal is to lose over a liter of blood. "I don't think I'm ever gonna view any one of you as anything else than my friends." her smile embiggened "And I will never do anything to harm you"
Sans observed as her skin got pale, but didn't say anything. He just smiled "I already know that. You never harmed anyone since you fell into the underground" The lights in his eyes disappeared "except yourself." he could finally feel the hot blood from under the table soak into his pink slippers. His smile remained, but this time it was clear it wasn't a happy smile. "I can't pretend to understand what's going on, because I really don't." Frisk's smile disappeared almost completely, her blurred vision could barely focus on the skeleton in front of her anymore.
She didn't care about what he said, she waited for her life to slip away, to return to the dark room with two choices; Continue and restart. This may have been a little dramatic to slit her wrist like this, but it was the most logical option in this situation. With the power controlling time, death, and life, why wouldn't she do it? She shouldn't have told Sans about anything, especially not about her power. She didn't know why yet, but she just knew this conversation wasn't supposed to go like this. Sucide was the best solution, she didn't doubt that one bit! Frisk felt the hot crimson liquid drip from her wrist, her knuckles, and then finally her fingertips before falling to the ground.
"I might be like Flowey, but not in the same way." she almost whispered "I'm different than him, I really am! And the difference is that I'm doing this for the right reasons, he just did it for his sick satisfaction. I have a soul, he doesn't!" she closed her eyes, she could feel her skin grow pale. She knew she would "die" in a few seconds, only to return in her latest save point.
"You're wrong." Said Sans in a hurt tone of voice. "You are just as pathetic as him, if not more. The fact you have a soul doesn't change anything" his breath quickened "What are you planning to do after this death, huh?" he asked acusingly. "Act as if it never happened? Just, go alo-"
"Why are you worried? It's not as if you're gonna remember it, Sans..." Her chest let out its last breath, and her smile disappeared from her still-hot body. She was dead.
"I might not remember it, but it still has an impact on you." it was the last thing she heard before everything went black, and she appeared in the dark void with two choices once again.
She stood in front of the save point. Bright Lights emitted from the inside of MTT resort. Frisk looked at the sign above the doors and read the sign once again. A familiar Skeleton stood in front of one of the big brown pots, he seemed to be waiting for something. Frisk walked up to him with a small smile tugging on her lips.
"Hey. I heard you're going to the core." the skeleton began "How about grabbing some dinner with me first?" He looked at her with a hidden anticipation. She was quite hungry after all day of eating junk food and candy, but she had no choice but to decline the offer. She answered with a sorry smile on her face "I'm busy" and before he could answer, she was already on her way.
He tilted his head in surprise. It was strange of her to decline a hangout, she never did that before. And it was especially strange that he got deja vu because of it.
