Chapter 11
The whole class was led to the observation room before the four students that would be in the first round were given their supplies and sent out. Each student was given one roll of 'capture tape' which wasn't anything special. However, wrapping it around someone on the opposite team would indicate they were 'captured' and therefore out of the game. They were also each given sets of earwigs that would let them communicate with each other and allow only All Might to hear the conversations happening during the match. Though anyone with advanced hearing, such as Kenichi and Jiro, could easily hear things through All Might's own earwig.
Everyone watched as Bakugo and Minoru went into the building and found their paper mache nuclear bomb. Everyone could see Minoru looking around the room as he plotted the obvious use of his Quirk out, "Hey, I'm going to cover the floor with my balls to trap anyone that comes in here."
Bakugo didn't seem to be paying attention to Minoru and looked to be thinking to himself. When he did address Minoru it was to ask, "That shitty nerd Deku, has a quirk, right?"
Minoru looked over at Bakugo completely confused, "Who?"
Minoru hadn't paid all that much attention to the boys in the class and today was only their second day so he hadn't gotten around to remembering very many names. Even then, he didn't recall anyone having a name even close to 'Deku' so he was at a complete loss.
Bakugo clicked his tongue and turned to walk away leaving Minoru by himself. Minoru ran to the doorway and looked at Bakugo, "Where are you going?!"
"To kill that shitty nerd!"
Bakugo was far beyond pissed off at Deku that he could hardly think straight. All he knew was that he planned to pound Deku into the ground so hard he'd never be able to stand up to get in his way again.
Minoru watched Bakugo disappear down the stairs heading toward the first floor. Minoru, slightly panicked at being left alone, ran back into the room and immediately began plucking balls off of his head. Every one he plucked off was tossed around the room to fill it with sticky mines. Anyone that touched one would instantly become trapped.
Meanwhile, Midoriya and Aoyama were waiting outside for the mission to begin. Midoriya looked at his partner for the exercise and asked, "Your Quirk allows you to shoot a laser right?"
Aoyama nodded as sparkles seemed to form out of thin air around him and he posed dramatically by holding his cape out, "Oui! My glorious Navel Laser is both beautiful and effective!"
Midoriya coughed to clear his throat, "Right... Well, Kacch... I mean Bakugo is definitely going to come after me himself. When we run into him, I want you to take off and find the bomb while I keep him distracted. I'm not completely certain what Minoru-san is capable of with his Quirk, but I think you have range on him so you should be able to take him on that way."
Aoyama grabbed the ends of his cape and fluttered it in a 'dramatic' fashion, "I shall be victorious mon ami! The last thing the villain shall see is my glory!"
With someone less... flamboyant, Midoriya might have been able to come up with a more concrete plan but he didn't know the Quirks of either Minoru or Aoyama all that well. The one he knew the absolute best was Bakugo's and since that was his most likely opponent, it would have to do. Hopefully, he could count on Aoyama to do his job properly.
Everyone back in the observation room watched the two teams prepare in silence. There just wasn't much to comment on until the matches began. The group grew excited as the signal to begin the first match was given. Kenichi watched the monitors closely while eavesdropping on what was being said by the teams. If this fight went anything like canon, then he planned to be fully prepared to force All Might to arrest Bakugo. If All Might failed as a teacher, like he had at this moment in canon, then he would force the issue by calling the police himself.
He didn't care what anyone said to the contrary, Bakugo was guilty of attempted murder during his match against Midoriya in the canon story and should have been arrested for it then and there. Period.
Midoriya and Aoyama slipped into the building through one of the windows and looked around while listening intently for any hint of their opponents. When neither heard anything, Midoriya glanced at Aoyama and reiterated, "Remember, when Bakugo comes after me, split off and locate Minoru-san while I keep him distracted."
Aoyama nodded along with a small smile, "Oui."
It only took them walking down a few corridors before a wild Bakugo appeared by leaping around the nearest corner. Bakugo's hand thrust out barely giving Midoriya a moment to react by tackling his partner out of the way as Bakugo set off a powerful explosion, "Found you shitty Deku!"
As the smoke cleared everyone could see Midoriya was missing half of his mask having just barely managed to dodge the brunt of the explosion. While the flames hadn't burnt him, the shockwave had ripped his mask apart. Midoriya gave Aoyama a small shove before standing up to face Bakugo. Only three people could hear what was being said, but everyone could tell from body language that there was some drama happening between Midoriya and Bakugo.
Meanwhile, Aoyama was following their plan and had managed to slip away to search for the bomb. The students watched as the battle between Midoriya and Bakugo kicked off with Midoriya performing a perfect shoulder throw and slamming Bakugo violently against the ground. It wasn't nearly enough to put Bakugo down but it definitely pissed him off even more if the murderous look on his face was anything to go by.
There was a bit of verbal back and forth between the pair before Midoriya took off to buy some time for Aoyama to find the bomb. He was nowhere near confident enough in his Full Cowling to try and take on Bakugo with it. Using an untested ability in a live combat situation was asking for trouble. It could fail, or worse, he could fail to control it and actually severely hurt Bakugo... He didn't even want to contemplate the possibility of accidentally killing Bakgo if he made a mistake and landed and full powered blow thinking it would be weaker. He knew that he was still stuck at 'All or Nothing' with One For All and just couldn't risk it. He'd rather shatter every bone in his body than accidentally cripple or kill someone.
It wasn't long until Bakugo found Midoriya crouched down and hiding in a hallway. The class watched, mostly in confusion, as Bakugo talked to Midoriya while lifting his left arm and aimed his gauntlet at Midoriya. He glanced over at Jiro and saw her pale as they both listened to Bakugo explain how his gauntlet worked. Kenichi would admit that using an item to gather his excess nitroglycerin sweat for a much bigger boom was pretty awesome. However, he also felt it was almost entirely useless in the majority of hero work. It only had a use against truly monstrous opponents.
Watching what was happening and knowing the danger involved, All Might snatched up the little stick microphone that would let him speak to all the students competing, "BAKUGO-SHONEN STOP AT ONCE! YOU'LL KILL HIM!"
The whole class gasped in shock at hearing All Might. They would have been even more horrified if they could hear Bakugo's response of, "It won't kill him if he dodges!"
Everyone stared in wide eyed shock as Bakugo unleashed a truly massive explosion of force and fire down the hallway. The explosion packed so much power that it not only blew out the wall behind Midoriya, but several walls to the side, above, and below. Bakugo's attack left a massive gaping hole in the building and destroyed several floors.
"What the hell?!"
"This is just supposed to be a lesson?!"
"Midori!"
"Midoriya-shonen!"
As the smoke and dust from the explosion began to clear a little, everyone could barely make out that Midoriya was alive. Even more worrying though was the purely psychotic look on Bakugo's face as he shouted at Midoriya through a cloud of smoke.
Surprising Kenichi, Kirishima actually spoke up, "All Might-sensei please put a stop to this! That Bakugo kid has gone mental, at this rate he'll kill him!"
"No..."
Kenichi couldn't hold back anymore, "What the fuck did you just say All Might?"
Every eye in the room turned to look at Kenichi in shock. Except Momo, she had both of her hands covering her face in embarrassment. Kenichi didn't give All Might a moment to respond, "That's not your call! A student just tried to murder another student right in front of you! You're a goddamn hero and supposed to enforce the law! It's not even your goddamn decision! As a hero you swore to uphold the law, not ignore it whenever you feel like it! End this now and arrest that criminal or I'll do it myself!"
All Might gave Kenichi a thunderous look before his shoulders seemed to slump a little. He turned back to the screens and pressed a button that set off a loud horn. While it was going off he grabbed the stick mic, "This exercise is over! All four of you report to the observation room!"
There was obvious surprise and the students could see Bakugo shouting but All Might was firm, "Return now Bakugo-shonen! This battle trial is over! If you attempt anything I will stop and restrain you myself!"
Kenichi nodded in approval while opening one of his hardened utility boxes. He withdrew his cell phone from within and unlocked it. After a bit of scrolling he held it out toward All Might, "It doesn't look like you have a phone tucked away in your costume. Use mine to call the police."
All Might looked at the phone as the rest of the class stared in shock at the events unfolding. One of their classmates was about to be arrested for trying to kill another. Even worse though, a student had to threaten to turn the student in because All Might had refused to put a stop to things! It was inconceivable and all of them were in shock over it.
All Might wanted to refuse the phone, but he couldn't with so many people looking on. He could also see through Kenichi and knew that if he didn't, the young man would. As he took the phone, Kenichi nodded, "Good. There's video recording, audio recordings, and eighteen eye witnesses." He looked at the other students, "You should all be prepared to give a statement on what you witnessed."
All Might accepted the phone, he really didn't have a spot to store his and he hadn't expected to need it. Instead of using the keyed up number Kenichi had selected, he quickly dialed one from memory. It was silent for a few moments before All Might spoke again, "Naomasa? It's All Might. I need you to come down to UA. There's been an... incident. I'd like to keep it discreet, for now." He paused, "Yeah, a student. It's pretty bad." Another pause, "Right. I'll have all the evidence ready when you arrive. See you soon my friend."
As All Might handed the phone back to Kenichi, Midoriya, Bakugo, Aoyama, and Minoru all entered the room. They all took a look at All Might and saw the deadly serious look on his face as he looked directly at Bakugo, "Bakugo-shonen..." He gestured to a spot off to the side where no one was standing, "Please sit over there."
Bakugo paled a little as he was singled out. A quick glance around the room showed looks of fear, which he would normally enjoy, mixed with looks of loathing, contempt, and disgust. Everyone was giving him plenty of room and stood out of his way as he didn't speak, but violently stomped his way over to the stop All Might indicated.
Once Bakugo was sitting, All Might addressed the other students, "We will continue while we await my friend Naomasa's arrival." He quickly plucked two balls from the box, "Heroes, Team C! Villains, Team A!"
Kenichi looked at the hero pair, Shoji Mezo and Hagakure Toru. They honestly didn't make too bad of a team. Shoji could scout with his extra eyes and ears while Hagakure had excellent stealth, being invisible and all. While Hagakure didn't seem like much of a fighter, Shoji had plenty of strength. Meanwhile, the villains had Ashido Mina and Hanta Sero. Those two on defense? He actually felt bad for the Heroes. Between Ashido being able to make the floor slick and Sero laying out tape traps for the heroes to slide into, the heroes were going to have their work cut out for them!
All Might led the students out and to a different building for their match. Bakugo had done enough damage to the last one to have it condemned. Without someone like Cementos around to repair things the cost of repairs would be massive. All Might didn't worry too much about leaving Bakugo unattended. He had the feeling that Kenichi would stop him if the young man attempted to make a run for it. He was right, of course.
When All Might returned, the rest of the class very clearly relaxed. He took it as a bad sign that the entire class was afraid of Bakugo. Still, he couldn't blame them. The young man had very clearly crossed a line. A line All Might had failed to see due to his own desires for Midoriya to overcome his past. All Might also felt guilt over what had happened. He knew that putting Midoriya and Bakugo against each other was a recipe for disaster. Yet, he'd still done it with the hope of letting both young men grow. Now Bakugo's life was ruined. He couldn't see a way that Bakugo wouldn't be convicted with all the evidence against him. He would be labeled a villain and end up incarcerated, there was no doubt about that in All Might's mind.
Bakugo could probably get out in a decade if he showed true remorse to the courts and was a model prisoner. Even then, he would be forever labeled a villain within Japan and would likely need to leave the country to even find a low paying menial labor job.
Kenichi was aware of everything All Might was and believed it was exactly what Bakugo deserved. Once Bakugo's arrest was on the news, he expected there would be former classmates that would come forward, or be approached, to add more evidence to the pile. The only way Bakugo wasn't going to jail is if there was a massive miscarriage of justice. Kenichi planned to pay close attention to the case and throw whatever money he could at it to prevent Bakugo getting off with anything less than a maximum sentence.
Mina and Sero looked at their fake bomb and the room it was located within. It was pretty open with several pillars supporting the ceiling. Mina had a positively Cheshire smile as she address her partner, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Sero had a matching smile on his face, "I'll set up some fly traps. Once that's done you slick up the floor and we just wait for the little heroes to buzz on into the traps."
Their laughter caused All Might to smile a little. At least their spirits were improving.
Shoji looked in the general location of Hagakure. He didn't talk much but it didn't look like Hagakure was very comfortable being around him, yet. So he took the lead, "Our opponents are a bad combination to go up against when they are on the defensive. We'll need to be extremely careful and aware of potential traps. Follow me carefully and if you see an opportunity take it."
Hagakure's gloves waved around excitedly as her voice came from thin air, "Got it! For this mission I'm going full stealth!"
So saying she quickly pulled off her gloves and boots. Shoji did his best not to think about the fact that his partner for this exercise was running around completely naked. It was only a moment later that the horn went off and announced the beginning of their match.
As quietly as possible, the heroes broke into the building. Shoji quickly began shifting some of his limbs into extra ears to improve his hearing. The first thing he picked up was Hagakure's breathing. After that he quickly located where Mina and Sero were located. They weren't exactly trying to be subtle about it.
Shoji created a mouth and moved it close to where he could hear Hagakure breathing, "I've found them. They're on the second or third floor. We'll sneak closer so I can pinpoint them and observe before making a better plan."
The rest of the class watched as Shoji, seemingly alone, walked up the stairs to the second floor, paused, and continued on to the third floor. It didn't take him long to track down Mina and Sero as they made no efforts to lower their voices as they chatted. From their point of view they had this in the bag. Sero had draped copious amounts of tape between all of the pillars in every direction he could manage from their bottom all the way to above his head. Then Mina had generously coated the floor in her slipperiest and weakest acid. One wrong step and their opponents would quickly slide into a bunch of tape and get caught.
The door seemed to open by itself and they could see Mina call out something while waving cheerfully from the middle of the room, the only safe spot. The pair looked pretty cocky until Shoji reached into the room and grabbed the top of the door with his hand to pull himself into the room without touching the floor. He created more of his tentacles and transformed them all into hands. His fingers dug into the walls as he pulled himself up like a spider.
Everyone, including Mina and Sero, gaped in surprise as Shoji used his multiple hands and prodigeous strength the scurry up the wall and out of sight from Mina and Sero. The two villains immediately began to panic. While their defensive trap protected them, it also limited their movement. Mina could easily skate on her own acid, unfortunately there was a ton of tape blocking off any path she could take.
Sero was slightly less restricted. He aimed at the ceiling with his right elbow and fired off a stream of tape. Once it was stuck, he started to reel himself in, pulling himself up higher to look for wherever Shoji had gotten to. He was looking in the wrong direction when Shoji swung around to place his feet on a pillar. With a powerful leap using the pilar as a brace, he shot through the air and gave Sero a hard shove.
With nothing to brace himself, Sero was shoved away and ended up landed in a tangle of his own tape, trapping himself. As Shoji moved through the air he spread his tentacles and expanded the membrane between them to give himself fake wings that allowed him to glide a bit.
Mine didn't just stand around gawking. As soon as she saw the direction Shoji was coming from, she started swinging her arms in his direction. Streams of mild acid flew through the air in his direction. She kept the acid to a level that would be mildly irritating to the skin and slightly painful in the eyes, though no worse than the meanest of onions.
Shoji was forced to cover his eyes, losing his ability to glide. He came in for a crash landing and ended up much like Sero had, tangled up in a bunch of tape. The group could see Mina laughing until the fake nuke behind her was visibly lifted off of the ground prompting All Might to call out, "Heroes win!"
AN
Okay so a few things I need to address. Bakugo DID, in fact, attempt to commit murder. There's no mitigating circumstances. No argument can be made that 'he didn't really mean it.' His gauntlets are deadly weapons. Period. All Might knew they were deadly weapons and not only told Bakugo to not use it, but even said it could kill Midoriya. Bakugo's response? Depending on your source it's "Not if it doesn't hit" or "not if he dodges." Then there's his look, no remorse, no hesitation, just a look of absolute manic glee as he fires his deadly weapon against orders from a Pro Hero and his Teacher. Replace his gauntlet with a gun and tell me it's not attempted murder. There's no real difference between the two. Hell it could even be argued that it was premeditated since Bakugo was clearly targeting Midoriya from the beginning.
Add in Bakugo's bullying, physical assault, telling Midoriya to commit suicide, and attempted assault stopped by Aizawa and you can very easily establish a record of escalating violent behavior culminating in the attempted murder.
The fact that no one in canon did anything but lightly scold Bakugo is just disgusting to me.
The fact that ALL-FUCKING-MIGHT ignored the attempted murder and even refused to stop that match after Kirishima spoke up is the single most disgusting thing any supposed hero could have done in that situation. He deliberately ignored the life threatening danger Midoriya was in and the crime Bakugo was clearly guilty of. In that moment, All Might failed to be a hero. I don't care what argument you use about Midoriya 'needing' to defeat/stand up to/fight against Bakugo. It doesn't negate anything.
Midoriya not using Full Cowling. This one is much simpler to explain. It's currently just day two of classes. He still has zero control of One For All at this point. Remember, he didn't develop Full Cowling in canon until he'd been through this training, USJ, and the Sports Festival. All incidents where he practiced with his Quirk and gained some modicum of control over it. Right now his Full Cowling would be the same as a punch, all or nothing. And, unlike Bakugo, Midoriya actually would worry about excess damage and possible death as consequences of his actions. Hell, I put all that in plain text but just wanted to clarify even more here.
Alright, all of that aside, how was the chapter itself? I think I covered what a fight between a team of Shoji + Hagakure VS Mina + Sero would logically do. Let me know what you all think!
