I've been holding off finishing this chapter because it's incredibly boring and barely anything happens that is different from the anime. (Apart from more Yui content)
I'm sorry if the quality isn't as high as the other chapters, I just wanted to get this chapter done to finally start doing more fun things. (Like USJ)
I didn't even do a thorough spellcheck or rewrite for some parts.
So, sorry for the quality. (And for taking too long to finish this chapter)
You'll forgive me, right?
…
Right?
Anyway…
Enjoy
'15 years and we're finally here…' Thought Kei, looking at U.A.'s gates. There were already multiple people entering. She couldn't recognize anyone from the anime, but that was to be expected since she did not try to remember.
"Are you still with us, Kei?" Asked Neito, seeing how Kei was once again looking at the endless void.
"Ah, sorry, just thinking about something. Let's go, our classrooms should be close to each other" Kei, Neito, Yui, and Setsuna entered U.A.'s premises and searched for their classrooms, soon finding the hallway that led to their classrooms.
"There's our classroom. See ya later, Kei!" They exchanged goodbyes and Kei watched how the three went to their classroom. Soon after she started walking on her own. On the way, she encountered something strange… A man in a yellow sleeping bag that looked like a caterpillar. Kei and the man locked eyes for multiple seconds.
"..."
"..."
She tried to say something, but the sight was too much for her, so she decided to just go around the man and forget about the strange interaction. 'What was that?!'
Soon, she arrived at the door to her classroom. '1-A… I'm pretty sure this is the class where all the important characters reside… I'll be having so much fun…' Kei entered the classrooms. There were already a couple of people in there, the only person she could recognize was the gold-haired boy she saw during the entrance exam. 'Seat 9… Here' She sat on her assigned seat, behind a boy with spiked red hair. Kei did not want to socialize yet, and the boy in front of her looked like he was ready for a long conversation, so she rested her head on the table. 'I'll just hear if the teacher comes… maybe the caterpillar that I encountered earlier was him?' Kei shuddered at the thought.
While she enjoyed the feeling of the cold table, she started hearing the people around her. They were making small talk and there was one boy loudly presenting himself to every student in the room. 'He'll come by me, right?' Soon enough, he came by the boy in the front. 'So he's named Eijiro Kirishima… And the other one is Ida Tenya… ok' Then he came by her table and stopped. 'Hm? Why is he not talking?'
"You shouldn't be sleeping on your seat, you are disrespecting this honorable establishment!" Said the boy, loudly.
"Ughh… Talk more softly, dammit… My ears hurt…" Kei said, putting her hands over her ears. "And we are not doing anything, so I decided to rest since I'm sleepy…"
"Ah… Sorry about that, but you still shouldn't sleep on the table, it's disrespectful to our upperclassmen," He said, now in a less loud tone.
"I won't make any promi-"
"WHICH ONE OF YOU EXTRAS IS KEI INARI" Yelled a blond boy in an ear-shattering tone. Kei once again covered her ears. The boy looked around the room, searching for Kei. "I ASKED WHO IS-"
"IT'S ME. Stop yelling goddammit! My ears are gonna bleed!"
"You…! You took first place from me!" The loud blond said, pointing at Kei.
"Who are you again?" Ke asked. 'I feel like I should know this guy… But I can't seem to remember him…'
"It's Katsuki Bakugo! And don't you dare think you are hot shit just because you beat me! You are just a stepping stone to my path to being number one! Don't you dare forget!" Bakugo said, before going to his assigned seat, sitting and putting his legs on the table.
'... What the fuck is his problem?' Kei thought, still covering her ears. Ida looked horrified. He stood there, stunned by what he just heard, before going to Bakugo's seat and reproaching him.
'Let's just… forget about this interaction…' Again.
The classroom slowly filled with more people 'That I'm pretty sure are important, but I don't remember. It doesn't seem like any character has changed from the vague recollection I have of the canon… Well, it doesn't really matter either way,' Soon enough, the class was full barring 2 people. 'The last two should be the protagonist and Female lead… right?'
A boy with green hair opened the door and blanched at noticing Bakugo and Ida. Both of them noticed his presence and the whole classroom turned to the protagonist. Ida tried to introduce himself but was stopped by the greenette.
"I'm Midoriya. Nice to meet you, Ida" He said, his hands in a "stop" gesture.
'This interaction is really funny… ah, there comes the female lead…'
"Oh, that curly hair! You're the plain-looking one!" The girl said.
Kei heard something moving from outside the door, the girl with the earphone plugs hanging from her earlobes also seemed to notice. 'Is that… slithering? Ugh… It sounds terrifying…' Both girls shuddered at the sound. "You also heard it?" Kei asked, noticing how the purple-haired girl also seemed to hear the sound.
"Yeah… It sounds wrong… It's like… wet?" The girl almost gagged at the sound.
"Go somewhere else if you want to play being friends,"
'Oh my god, he sounds dead…' Kei said.
"This is the hero course," There was the sound of a zipper, then a loud slurping. Kei gagged. "Okay, it took eight seconds before you were quiet. Time is limited. You kids are not rational enough,"
'Is he our teacher? Hmm… I think I barely remember him now. Eraser… something?'
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you," The tired man said.
'So he's our homeroom teacher… Should I be concerned?'
Aizawa pulled a gym uniform out of his sleeping bag and told the class to put it on and go onto the field. Everyone took a uniform and went into the locker rooms. "I'm aware of your situation, Inari. You can change in the bathroom," Said Aizawa, handing Kei a gym uniform.
"Thanks, teacher,"
~Field~
'So we are assessing our quirks?' The class was surprised by this. But Aizawa explained how if you are going to become a hero, you don't have time for events like the orientation, which was the original event that was supposed to occur. 'U.A. is known for being unrestricted… so it makes sense I guess…'
They were going to do a fitness test where they would be allowed to use their Quirks. "Inari, you finished at the top of the practical exam, right?" Asked Aizawa, much to Bakugo's annoyance.
"Yes,"
"What was your best softball throw in junior high?"
"55 meters,"
"Do it with your Quirk now. Go to the circle," Aizawa throws a ball at Kei and she catches it, then goes to the center of the circle. "You can do whatever you want as long as you stay in the circle. Hurry,"
'This is mostly hard ground, but…' Kei looks to her right. There is a sand pit where they would later do a long jump. 'That will do,' She pulls the sand towards her and forms a hand out of sand. Kei gives the ball to the hand. 'I don't think I'll get even close to 600 meters… maybe in between 300 and 400?' Kei moves the hand to the edge of her current control and then makes the hand throw the ball.
"Know your own maximum first, that is the most rational way to form the foundation of a hero," Aizawa shows the device with the result, which reads 349.1 meters. 1-A was now motivated, they thought that this would be fun now that they could use their Quirks. "'It looks fun,' huh?"
'Oh! I remember this!'
"You have three years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time?" Aizawa asked 1-A. Then, grinning like a Cheshire cat, said that whoever gets last place overall in the assessment will be deemed to have no potential, and expelled from the hero course.
""Huhhh!?""
"We're free to do what we want about the circumstances of our students. Welcome to U.A's hero course!"
~50-meter dash~
After an emotional speech about the heroes from Aizawa, the Quirk assessment began. Starting with the 50-meter dash.
Kei made sure to take some of the sand from the long jump and make a cute hat so that she didn't have to pull sand from too far away. Aizawa looked at her questioningly but seemed to notice her intentions and left her alone.
For the 50-meter dash, her best idea was to make a platform and move it as fast as her body could resist, maybe less, since she didn't want to be too tired from only the first test.
She was paired with a boy with blonde hair and a black lightning streak on his hair, Kaminari seemed to be his name from what Aizawa said. When they were walking into their positions, the boy seemed to be blushing and stealing glances at Kei, who was completely unaware. Lost on her thoughts on how to clear this first test.
"On your mark… Get set…"
At the sound of the gunshot, Kei ran for a bit while making the platform, then made a small jump, positioning the platform under her and holding onto a glass pole she made to hold on to.
"4.02 seconds"
"At least I don't vomit every time I gain too much speed anymore…"
~Grip Strength~
For the grip strength test, she was paired with Mezo Shoji, a boy with multiple arms, and Hanta Sero, the boy who took second place for the best smile she'd ever seen. (First being, of course, Yui.)
Using the sand to form multiple tentacle-like appendages, she made them grip the doodad, getting 201 kilograms as a result.
"Wow! 540 Kilograms? What are you, a gorilla? Oh, an octopus?" Sero said.
"I bet you give the best hugs," Kei said, gaining the attention of other female students who looked at Shoji's arms with interest. He seemed to not be used to this kind of attention.
Kei got a hug.
~Standing long jump~
For the standing long jump, Kei just made another glass platform and crossed the sand pit.
~Repeated side-steps~
Sadly, she couldn't come up with a way to use her quirk in this test, so she ended up getting an average score.
""Infinity?!""
Since she had already done this test, Aizawa gave her the option to redo it but decided to just keep her current score.
After a couple of attempts by other students and the rabid dog, protagonist-kun finally entered the circle. 'Why is he looking at the ball so much? Protagonist activities or something?'
"It doesn't look good for Midoriya if he continues like this," Ida said.
"Huh? Of course not. He's a Quirkless small fry, you know." Anger issues said.
"Quirkless?! Are you not aware of what he did in the entrance exam?"
"Huh?"
Kei yawned. 'Ughh… I should've slept more…'
Finally, Midoriya started to wind up for his throw. The veins on his arm glowed red, before disappearing completely moments before throwing the ball. "46 meters"
"I-I was definitely trying to use it just now…" Midoriya said, looking at his arm with a shocked expression.
"I erased your quirk." Aizawa said, his hair and the capture weapon floating on the air when his Quirk activated "That entrance exam was definitely not rational enough. Even a kid like you was accepted."
'So he's Eraser Head… Cool hero'
Midoriya once again stood at the center of the circle, ball in hand in his second attempt on the throw. "Are you worried about him?" Aoyama asked Uraraka. "I'm... not at all"
"...Who are you?"
'I can almost hear the sound effects in these interactions' Kei thought in reaction to a classic comical anime interaction between two characters. 'What is he muttering?... Oh! He is doing something,'
Midoriya concentrated the power of OFA in his finger and threw the ball, generating a strong wind all around him. 'Why does it have to be so loud?!' Kei thought, holding her ears down with her hands.
"Teacher… I still… can move!"
"This kid!"
'If I didn't know I was in the world of an anime before, now I do… I can almost feel the power of friendship'
Everyone, understandably, was incredibly surprised by the record of 705 meters achieved by Midoriya. Meanwhile, Bakugo was seething. 'Serves you right, egotistical fuck'
"Hey!" Shouted Bakugo, running at with tiny explosions coming out of his hands. "Tell me what's going on, Deku, you bastard!" But he was grabbed by Aizawa's capture weapon.
"They're weapons for capture made of carbon fiber woven together with metal wire made of a special alloy," Aizawa explained. "Jeez… Don't keep making me use my Quirk over and over. I have dry eye."
"Wow, that sucks," Kei said.
"It does…:" Said Uraraka.
"We're wasting time. Whoever's next, get ready."
After that show, the rest of the tests were generally more subdued. And finally, the results came.
"Okay, I'll quickly tell you the results. The total is simply the marks you got from each test. It's a waste of time to explain verbally, so I'll show you the results all at once." Aizawa said, before pressing a button that projected a hologram of the results.
'8th place… not bad'
"By the way, I was lying about the expulsion." Almost Everyone was completely silent in shock. "It was a rational deception to draw out the upper limits of your Quirks," He said with a Cheshire grin
"He's absolutely lying," Said Inari in a low voice.
"Why do you think that?" Asked someone beside her, Yaoyorozu Momo, one of the two recommended students in 1-A.
"He expelled all of class 1-A last year, he expelled all of them before re-enrolling them, you can guess why he did that." She said, looking at Yaoyorozu.
"Huh…"
Now that she looked at her more closely, in her eyes, Momo was really pretty. 'Not my type tough,' Isn't that a surprise?
Simp.
"With that, we're done here. There are handouts with the curriculum and such in the classroom so when you get back, look over them"
'I want out of here. These people are crazy… Why couldn't I have been in 1-B?'
~Outside U.A.'s Main Building~
She was done.
Her class was full of crazy or troubled teenagers, and she didn't like it one bit. While they were generally nice, she just couldn't fathom having to deal with them for the next three years. 'Am I exaggerating a bit? Maybe.'
From a distance, she could see a mop of black hair that while for other people would be unrecognizable from other people, she could identify instantly. 'Y-Yui battery!' So she ran at her with her hands open.
"Yuiiiiiiii!" She cried, earning a startled jolt from the girl. Looking behind her, she could see the figure of a fox girl running at her with her arms open and with tears running down her eyes. For anyone else, this would have been incredibly strange and creepy, but for Yui…
She opened her arms, welcoming the incoming tackle hug. "I'm so tireeeeed… My classmates are weird…!" She whined, burying her face in Yui's shoulder.
"There, there… You are free," Safe to say, Yui was enjoying this more than she let on.
"Heya, Kei! I would ask you how your day went, but I guess I don't have to," Setsuna said. Kei looked at her and noticed a new face.
She had pale skin with chin-length gray hair that covered the left side of her face, blue eyes with dark bags under them, and an emotionless face kind of like Yui's. "This is Reiko Yanagi, one of our classmates in 1-B" Monoma said.
"Oh, hey Neito. Didn't see ya there"
"Am I an afterthought? Also, where did your sad play go?" Monoma sweatdropped
Kei walked up to Reiko "Good to meet you, Yanagi. I'm Kei Inari from 1-A, just call me Kei. You already seem to be familiar with the rest of the group, so that's great."
"You can call me Reiko then, it's good to meet you" They shook hands.
"What did you mean by your classmates being weird by the way?" Neito asked, curious about their rival class.
"Well, I wouldn't say they are bad, just… special? The first thing that happened once I entered the classroom was that one of my classmates loudly entered the room and searched for me, apparently I "stole" first place from him. He seems to have a massive ego. The rest of the class is more chill though if we don't count that some of them seem to have quite the characters" She explained, thinking about the flamboyant blond in her class.
"Wait, does that mean that the loud "DIE" followed by an explosion came from your class?" Setsuna asked.
"Yes, it was. Were you guys in orientation?" Kei asked, receiving a nod from everyone. "Hahh… Well, at least most of them seem to be nice…" She said, her ears sagging. Yui patted her on the back.
~Class 1-A Classroom~
'Normal…' Is what she thought of the whole school day. The school day consisted of normal classes like math, history, and other normal high school subjects, U.A. wasn't that much different from any other high school in that regard, with the main difference being that the subjects were taught by pro heroes.
And finally, the afternoon came…
From an outside perspective, the class seemed calm. Some were absentmindedly looking ahead of them, tapping their fingers on their desks to some song stuck in their heads, or even studying. But if one examined their faces carefully, one would see the excitement and anticipation for the class that was soon to start. Kei was no exception to this, as evidenced by the uncontrollable wagging of her tail and the way her ears twitched more than normal.
And how could they not be excited? After all…
"I am…"
Hero basic training, the one thing all of the present came to U.A. for, was finally going to start.
"Coming through the door like a normal person!" Sounds of excitement came from everyone in the classroom at the person that entered the room… All Might, the greatest hero this world has seen, was going to teach them how to be heroes.
"It's All Might!" "Wow, he really is a teacher!" "That's a costume from the silver age, isn't it?"
The greatest hero briefly analyzed the room, his gaze briefly falling on two different people: Izuku Midoriya and Kei Inari. 'Because I got first place in the exam maybe? Holy shit, this is amazing!'
"I teach Hero Basic Training. It is a subject where you train in different ways to learn the basics of being a hero. You'll take the most units of this subject!" He explained while doing flexing poses. "Let's get right into it! This is what we'll do today." He turned around and showed a card with big stylized letters written on it. "Combat training!"
"Combat…" "Training." Two of the main characters said, doing the classic anime cliche.
"And to go with that are these!" He said while pointing at a wall. From said wall came out cases labeled with numbers. "Costumes made based on your Quirk registrations and requests you sent in before school started."
'Finally! I spent way too much time thinking of my costume… I hope they made it as I requested…' Kei's tail wagged even faster in excitement.
"After you change, gather in Ground Beta!"
""Yes, sir!""
Cliffhanger HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH- You can already guess what's gonna happen in the next chapter.
I want a hug from Shoji.
Also, Reiko is here. I like her a lot (You can see my bias towards 1-B in this whole fic, they are just so cool). The wiki described her wording as "Verbose", but I can't seem to figure out a way to write that, since she doesn't talk much in the show. I'll figure it out though.
I've been thinking of ways to mutilate and make Kei suffer for a bit without making it too permanent and edgy, and I got just the idea.
Too bad it will take a while for my idea to appear.
I try to make all of my chapters at least 4000 words, but I was thinking about cutting that in half to start making more chapters and making it easier on myself, since I feel like with long chapters the quality starts to lower the longer the chapter is and I start procrastinating. (Hence why this chapter took so long to make)
Maybe I'll experiment with that for the next couple of chapters and you tell me if you prefer shorter chapters.
Not the biggest fan of this chapter, so as a punishment for it, it doesn't get an omake. (JK, I just really want to get this chapter done)
I wonder how I will write the end of this fic with all that is happening in the manga… (If I ever get to that part lol)
