Chapter 8: Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People?
10 PM, July 29th, 1844
Arendelle Mountain Base
When she had arrived at the base of the mountains and seen the enormous ice castle she had immediately known that it was where her sister was. She wondered where Madara was since he was their bodyguard. Well, more like Elsa's tutor and bodyguard than her's but that's beside the point. When she made her way up the snow covered side of the mountain, her horse had suddenly been spooked by a sudden sound that almost appeared to be a roar. The horse had thrown her off it and no matter how much she called for it to come back, the horse took off back in the direction of Arendelle in a full gallop. Left with no choice, Anna took the path to the smoke she saw rising and found herself in front of a hut that seemed to be some kind of store. She entered the store to buy some warmer clothes. However when the store keeper would not shut up about trying to badger her into buying something, she was ready to call it quits and made for the door. Just as her hand reached for the door, it jolted open and she was once again colliding with a snowman. Wait what? She looked up once she had gained her footing and realised it was a man covered entirely with snow. When the man saw her, he patted himself down and got the snow off of him. Then he made his way over to the store keeper and proceeded to buy carrots of all things. Seriously? Who needed carrots right now? Its freezing outside and this man wanted carrots?
As the man finished his purchase, he turned around and finally took full notice of her standing there looking at him from the doorway.
"Umm. Hi?" He asked uncertainly and with a slightly creeped off tone as his eyes continued to dart from the door to her as if he thought she would try attacking him. A moment later she decided to introduce herself and perhaps apologize for creeping him out.
"Hi! Sorry I just thought it weird that you bought carrots when its snowing outside. Anyways, I'm Princess Anna. Who are you?"
"Oh I'm Kristoff. And these carrots aren't for me. They're for Sven." The now named Kristoff answered after a second. The he realized what she had said and quickly offered her a bow which she quickly waved off. Then she seemed to also realize what he had said and thought that he came here with someone else.
"Who's Sven? And why does he need carrots?"
"Oh Sven is a reindeer. Come on I'll show you."
With that, they made their way outside where she saw a reindeer pulling a sled waiting there patiently. When Sven saw Kristoff, he immediately began stared happily at the carrots which Kristoff quickly fed to him. Wondering where he had been and where he was going in this harsh weather, Anna decided to ask him as he checked his gear in the sled and then proceeded to pet down Sven.
"So, where were you going?" Anna asked.
"We just came from the North Mountains and we were heading back to Arendelle when this snowstorm started blowing. We found this hut and decided to stop at it for some gear along with carrots for Sven here." To which the reindeer decided to bow as if he had accomplished some great deed. Then he nudged Kristoff with his antlers and when Kristoff turned to admonish him he used his eyes to ask Kristoff to introduce them.
"Oh alright. This is Anna. Anna, this is Sven. There you happy?" He asked grumpily before crossing his arms. Anna couldn't help but find their interaction incredibly funny and a giggle escaped her which caused the two in question to turn their attention to her. Then she remembered that he was coming back from the North Mountains which was where she had been going to. Seeing the opportunity, she immediately began aking him nicely to take her there on matters of utmost importance.
"Nice to meet you Sven. Now. You will take me to the North Mountains for matters of great importance concerning the kingdom of Arendelle." Well she was polite at least. Didn't mean she couldn't order him to take her there. She was the princess. Kristoff recoiled back exageratedly and raised his eyebrows as he began to profusely reject her order. After a while of the two of them arguing, Sven had enough and used his antlers to hit Kristoff's back telling him to just accept Anna's order and take her to the North Mountains for her urgent matter. With a defeated sigh and an annoyed look at Anna along with a betrayed look towards his reindeer companion, he finally relented and cleared a small space on the sled for her to ride in. Once she situated herself on the sled, Kristoff proceeded to guide Sven back towards the mountains and took off at a brisk pace.
