Moonlight
Right before The Nutcracker, Rusty had ratted Sharon & Andy out to Nicole that they were more than "just friends."
The thing was Sharon wasn't even really aware that that's what they'd been doing during all those trips to the movies, the Japanese Museum gala, and the Dodger game that never happened, along with countless dinners on the balcony of Sharon's condo or at Andy's house in Valencia.
She wasn't opposed to the idea of them being more than friends.
She just hadn't realized until Rusty had pointed it out, just how much time she and Andy spent together outside of work.
The thing was it had all been so effortless.
Would actually dating change that?
Would there be other expectations if they became official?
Sharon was shaken out of her reverie by Andy gently grabbing her elbow and telling the others that they were gonna go get some air.
He could tell Sharon was distracted and he had a feeling he knew why.
Rusty had not so subtly indicated to them that they were more than "just friends."
Andy could see it, but could Sharon?
After they strolled out the doors and out into the gardens of the theater, Andy asked, "Sharon, are you okay?"
"Yeah. Why?" asked Sharon.
"Because you have looked like you were far away and deep in thought since the afterparty started. Is this about what Rusty said?" asked Andy.
"I can't say I haven't been thinking about it, because that would be a lie," admitted Sharon.
"Sharon, I'm comfortable with whatever you're comfortable with," Andy told her.
"I know. I'm just not sure what I want from this yet," Sharon motioned between them.
"Well, you don't have to figure it all out tonight, Sharon. Just know that I'll be here no matter what you decide," said Andy.
"Thank you, Andy. I appreciate that. I was feeling some pressure to figure it all out tonight," said Sharon.
"Not from me, I hope?" asked Andy.
As she played with his tie nervously, she said, "No. Not at all. I guess…I guess I just don't wanna lead you on into thinking there could be more when I'm not even sure what this is yet."
"It's whatever you want it to be, Sharon," Andy told her.
"I know. I just don't wanna be unfair to you. It's like a kid not sharing their toys and keeping them all for themself. It'd be selfish to hold onto you if that's not what I want. You deserve to be happy," Sharon told him.
Andy wrapped his arms around Sharon's waist as he said, "I am happy. No matter what happens between us."
Sharon smiled up at him and said, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," replied Andy earnestly as he pulled her close to him as they began swaying to the music flowing from inside.
"I like being close to you. You're warm," said Sharon as she settled her head and hands against Andy's chest as they continued dancing.
"I'm glad," replied Andy.
"So am I. Before we started dancing I was quite chilly. This coat only covers so much," Sharon told him.
Andy looked down at her exposed legs for a moment before returning his attention back to Sharon and said, "Yeah."
"Now, you're far away too. What's going through your head right now?" asked Sharon.
"Nothing," replied Andy.
"Andy. It's me you're talking to," Sharon told him.
"Truthfully. I was thinking about how good your legs look in that dress," admitted Andy.
Sharon just laughed for a moment at that and asked, "That's really what you were thinking about?"
"Yeah," replied Andy.
"Good to know," said Sharon as she filed that admission away for later.
It would be a late night for her tonight thinking about all of this.
Probably would be for Andy too.
Well, at least they were currently bathed in moonlight.
