I own none of the characters or anything directly related to the comics and/or the show. I just wanted to share this little story with fellow Riverdale lovers.
--
The struggling town of Riverdale was fast asleep. Some people were having good dreams and bad, some were working overnight, and some were up late and couldn't sleep. Like our favorite narrator who was wide awake and determined to write something, anything.
Unbeknownst to Jughead, he would receive a visit from the present villain of Riverdale's story. Percival Pickens leisurely made his way into to Tabitha's home, where she lay sleeping in bed and Jughead was still in his little nook staring at a blank page on his typewriter.
Percival, using his 'persuasion' to get inside Jughead's mind, he stood behind Jughead's chair. "Hello, Mr. Jones. It's hard to keep someone out of their head when they take you so off guard isn't it?" He asked with a smile on his face. Jughead punched a few more keys before stopping at the sound of Percival in his head. He was frozen in his seat unable to try and block Percival out of his own mind. He didn't understand why, but he could not remember his anchor to block Percival's effects. Before Jughead could do anything Percival spoke again.
"It's such a lovely night. Possibly the best time to clear your writer's block? Perhaps a stroll down to Sweet Water River and then maybe have a little swim, yes? I'm sure you'll find a way through the ice. After all, those hands of yours can be very powerful." Percival smirked and leaned back as Jughead began to stand up out of his chair.
Jughead dazedly made his way out of the apartment. He walked barefoot, and in his pajamas towards Sweet Water river. Using what mental strength he could muster he focused on Tabitha. He focused on trying to send her a message, he wasn't sure if he was able to do it but he had to try. He kept thinking 'Tabitha' in his subconscious, hoping it would reach her. He couldn't break the spell Percival had put him under, he was too strong. He just hoped she would know what to do.
Tabitha was fast asleep dreaming about Pop's chocolate shop. It was bustling with people coming in and out. It felt so warm and bright. But without warning everyone just vanished. Clouds covered the sky blocking out the sun and the mood changed drastically. "Hello?" She called out. No one was there. As if to call her, the bell of Pop's door rang, letting her know someone walked in. Tabitha turned and saw Jughead standing there, in his pajamas, barefoot, soaking wet.
"Jug? What-?" She was dumbfounded and couldn't say anything.
"Tabitha..." His voice sounded close, yet far away. A white light flashed and Tabitha jolted awake in her bed. She wiped the sweat from her brow, and got up when she realized that Jughead wasn't in bed. Most likely typing away. The closer she got to his nook, she noticed there was no clicking of his typewriter keys. She looked around the apartment but saw no sign of him. She looked back at his type writer to see what he was working on and meant to just quickly go back to looking for him when she noticed something peculiar on the page he was on.
She paid close attention to one sentence in particular. 'Seat wetar revor... Hepl'. "What?" She said aloud. But then it hit her. Jughead never misspell anything. But one word that was spelled correctly, made everything make sense. 'Percival'. "Oh no!" Tabitha sprung into action and pulled on a pair of shoes and tore the paper out of the typewriter compartment and ran out of the door.
Tabitha went straight to Archie's and started banging on the door. It wasn't a moment later that Archie opened the door, Betty at his side both looking sleepy. "I need your help! It's Jughead!" Tabitha didn't need to say more, Archie and Betty were already getting their shoes and running to the cars as fast as they could.
Despite the frozen surface under his unprotected feet, Jughead walked to the center of the frozen over river. He looked down at the white icy surface. He got down on his knees, and started to painfully break through the ice with his fists.
"What happened exactly? Why do you think he went to Sweet Water River?!" Archie exclaimed confused to what was going on. Archie was driving as fast as he possibly could to Sweet Water River without killing them in the process.
"It's a little crazy, but I was having a dream. It was a good dream. Then all of a sudden it went dark, and I saw Jughead just standing in front of me soaking wet. He just called out my name, there was this blinding light and I woke up. I looked around the apartment for him and I found this. Read the last sentence." She handed Betty the paper she took from Jughead's typewriter. Betty took a second to read it and her eyes widened.
"She's right Archie. These words are misspelled and Jughead never misspells anything." She explained.
"Okay, but how does that explain he's at Sweet Water River?!" Archie asked again getting impatient.
"He typed Sweet Water River incorrectly! Someone was in his head!" Better held the letter out for Archie to glance at it. He saw Percival's name and he floored it.
Archie pulled up close to the river, they all piled out and ran to the bank of Sweet Water River, the same area where Cheryl tried to leave this world to be with her brother. They looked across and spotted Jughead kneeling down, moving his arms around in the middle of the ice.
"What is he doing?" Betty asked.
"He's trying to break the ice!" Archie took off at a sprint, running like he never had before. "JUGHEAD!" He screamed.
"Jug!" Tabitha and Betty yelled too, running behind Archie, although Archie was far ahead of them.
"JUG!" Archie scream at the top of his lungs. He was halfway there, all Jug needed to do was try to hold it off until he got there. But it was too late, one last hit to the ice and Jughead fell through.
"NO!" The three of them shouted. Archie became the impossible and ran even faster. He tried to grab Jughead's arm but he slipped through. Archie jumped in without hesitation.
"Archie!" Betty called. They knew he would get Jughead out, and he would be okay, he was invulnerable.
Jughead could feel his fists pounding the ice, but he couldn't stop it. He felt the pain in his hands, but he couldn't stop, and he didn't know why he was doing it. He was freezing, he just wanted the pain to stop.
In one moment he could've sworn he heard Archie's voice then suddenly he fell forward and was enveloped in the arctic water. It felt like he jumped awake from some nightmare, finally becoming aware of what was happening. He was in Sweet Water River in the middle of winter.
He felt someone try to grab his arm but they missed, and he was pulled away by the current. He was turned and twisted every which way by the water. He tried to stop himself, or to slow down even but there was nothing to grab onto. Even if there was, he couldn't see to grab it. The current pulled him to the side again and he hit something hard and everything went black.
