Chapter 6
"I don't know much..." she said in a broken voice. "Ever since you bit me, your venom, it did something with my thoughts. Ever since I can barely remember what happened. It seems so far ago. Like a very old memory. I can barely remember anything."
"What do you know? How do you know it was a male?"
"He was hidden behind a cloak," she said slowly, "but his voice was that of a man. And you were right before, about an injection. He injected something inside me."
Edward laughed.
Okay.
Everything made sense now. He knew exactly what the other vampire had injected inside this human.
Something to block her mind, future and emotions from his gifts.
Something to make her blood sing to him, to abduct her so he'd drain her blood, become weakened by this new drug that he'd drink through her blood, a new drug that changed vampires into humans.
Special human? My ass.
Nothing about this human was special.
It was induced by an injection and it made her not special or gifted.
"I know enough," he said with a smirk. "Someone is trying to kill me."
She watched him with her big wide eyes. This probably made no sense to her.
"It means you're just another ordinary human, little girl," he added.
And he was angry.
At her.
At the vampire that did this to her.
At he vampire that was trying to kill him.
He went into the backyard and shoved his finger in his throat. He removed all blood he'd drank from his stomach. He threw up blood and venom. He threw it all out.
It was a bloodbath at his feet from all that he threw out.
And there it was...
Her quick heartbeat he kept hearing without the interruption of shifting between human and vampire. The air around him smelled of her divine blood.
Except he next heard a loud crash and groaned.
Fuck.
Three other vampires were inside his house.
He turned his glare towards them. But he felt more things than just anger.
"James, Laurent and Victoria," Edward said, knowing their names through their minds.
The girl was in the hands of James, Edward saw.
Edward kept his face hard, but for the first time in existence, he was afraid. Afraid for the girl's life. Afraid for not seeing her future.
Fuck.
"Leave the human out of this game you're playing."
"That all depends on you, Edward," James said.
"I'm listening," he deadpanned.
The only reason he didn't rip their heads off in that instant, was because of the innocent life at the hands of James.
But Edward knew they wouldn't kill her. They had a plan.
He didn't know what yet.
"Drink up," James said, pushing Bella forward and her body slamming on the ground at his feet.
Edward suppressed himself to bend down, to pick her up, to apologize to her. This isn't what he wanted for her.
Edward suppressed himself so the three vampires would not notice that in their short time together, the human girl had begun to be something of meaning to him to Edward.
He felt very protective towards the tiny human.
When did that happen?
"And if I don't?" Edward asked.
"She would do quite good in a brothel, don't you believe so too?" he said.
"Do you know how much virgin's are worth?" Victoria said.
"To be honest," Laurent added. "We're surprised you haven't killed her already."
He saw the future in their minds attack him out of nowhere.
A vision from the future
Edward refused to drink the girl's blood. He managed to kill James... Because it had been James who bit her lower arm.
But Victoria and Laurent managed to take the girl, sell her to the brothel, somewhere, someplace, unknown, forever lost-
Edward never found her again.
Edward was horrified at the future. It would happen, if he refused to kill her. Because drinking her blood, meant his death.
The young woman at his feet sobbed. She didn't deserve to be in a brothel.
"If I'm a dying vampire tonight," Edward said. "To spare this human. So be it."
Edward nodded at the three vampires. Their smiles grew at his compliance.
He sank down on his knees. The girl was facing away from the three vampires and him. She was crying, but also, her neck was perfectly presented toward her like this. He could see where he'd recently bit her and hurt her so with his venom.
He knew that his option was to drink her blood until death followed - only her death would not follow.
It didn't last time.
He wondered if their injection had a glitch.
He could break her neck and kill her, to spare her a life spent in misery in a brothel. He didn't even know if his way of stopping her from becoming a vampire, by sucking out the venom, had worked. She didn't want to become a vampire and even if he sucked out James venom, he could not be sure if that would stop the process.
In the meantime, if he drank all her blood, Edward would shift human - and his death would follow too.
The three vampires would get what they wanted.
Edward Cullen's death.
He took a deep breath, her delicious scent awakening his thirst.
For what he was going to do next, he needed to control himself very hard.
And pin her down hard.
He got on top of her. He sat on her lower legs, grabbed hold of her wrists and pushed them down on the ground.
He leaned down and pressed her down with his entire body. She couldn't move, even if she wanted do.
He met her large eyes filled with fear.
He hated to see her fear, to feel her tremble. This would hurt her greatly. He hoped the little human would forgive him for taking a chance on her life. He leaned down, letting his thirst take over, which was needed for the venom he needed in that moment. He pressed his nose against her neck, inhaling deeply, longingly.
Until finally he pierced his teeth in her skin and let all his venom pool in her body. He felt her blood tickle against his tongue and he groaned at the taste, but not being able to swallow.
Edward gave the tiny human all his venom. Every drop.
Previously he had taken all her blood. Any other human would be in shock from that amount of blood loss. But not this girl. She had healed, and Edward was certain it was because of his venom.
Just like she said; his venom had healing powers. Why? He still didn't know, but that didn't matter now. He simply knew that it did.
And because he had taken her blood...
It was time to give her something in return. He gave her his venom. All the venom the scent of her blood made. The effect was instant. She screamed in pain, but her body remained unmoving at his grip.
Edward didn't stop for a full minute and he knew he was giving an enormous amount of his venom, so much more than he previously gave her when he drank her blood and much more than James gave her to turn her into a vampire.
The tiny human groaned and he hated to make her suffer.
He hoped his venom would give her strength, like it did previously. He hoped it gave her those healing powers as she so cleverly pointed out.
It was when the three vampires realized she was still screaming and not dead, that something was wrong. And Edward saw something strange in the girl's future.
The first vision showed - A comment about his name, Edward.
The second vision showed - Quotes about Jane Austen.
The third and final vision showed - A kiss between them, initiated by the tiny human.
He wondered how he could see her future? He wasn't able to use his gifts on her. It was odd.
In fact... He saw those visions through his eyes again, like before, with the vision in the alley.
Did he see his own future, again?
It took him a moment too long to recover from those visions, especially that kiss, but for now... her future was secured.
Show time.
He go on his feet, glaring at the vampires, standing like a wall in front of the human protectively.
"How dare you to try and defile a young human's life?" he said.
The three vampires stood ready for a fight - Edward was weaker from his current thirst.
But he was still stronger then them.
"Humans are precious and worthy and not your prey to play with," he snapped. "They're not trivial."
He realized he wasn't speaking generally about all humans. Mainly, he spoke of the tiny human.
At least the little girl behind him was briefly safe.
"What have you done to her?" Laurent asked.
This meant they didn't know about the side effect of their poisonous injection.
"My secret," Edward said with a smirk.
The three vampires looked behind Edward and he didn't need to glance back to see through their minds that the girl had gotten on both her feet and that her eyes were red.
Edward laughed.
He had created a new born, however brief.
He fucking hoped it was only brief.
She had been so desperate to die, to not become a monster, a vampire.
"Impossible," Victoria said.
He was done with these three vampires.
He was quick to behead them all three in their trance of disbelief that the human had become a vampire.
The vampire bodies were added on a quickly composed fire he made in the back yard and he burned their bodies to ashes.
It was then for the first time, he brought his eyes to the human behind him.
Her eyes were red, her skin glowing.
He grimaced.
Fuck.
She looked so sad.
"Bella."
His vampire mind couldn't come up with anything else, except to say her name.
For the first time.
Not anymore, little human, little girl, or tiny human.
"Who are you?" she said, her eyes lost. "How do you know my name?"
Right... The amnesia. Just like before. He didn't know what to tell her.
He hadn't even given her his name.
"This is temporarily," he said, reminded himself.
And he hoped he reminded her too.
He could only imagine what was going through her mind. Suddenly she was seeing Edward ripping off the heads of three other vampires, burn their corpses...
He winced at what this poor human had seen, all in one night.
All because three vampires thought they could use her as bait to get him.
Nothing now remained but to wait.
Wait for his venom to wear out of her body and whatever poison they had injected in her body to stop her blood from turning into something murderous for vampires.
And for some reason it blocked his gifts from her too.
They would both have to wait.
Because she was still human, despite her ruby eyes.
He could hear her heart beat loud and clear.
He could still smell her blood, even if his venom was coursing through her veins.
He prayed to God it would wear out and bring back her brown eyes.
