Hello readers! Been a little while since my last update; I have had major writer's block and it was only recently that I re-watched the Hobbit that pushed me back into writing. I am determined to finish this story as I have had it in my head since the first movie came out and it's driving me insane.

Basking in the light of the setting sun and taking a deep breath, Kelsey sat herself down on a stone bench, surrounded by white flowers, overlooking the vast landscape that was Rivendell. Every waterfall, tree and house was covered in the hue of blue, pink and yellow colours, a tranquillity settling in as night fell. Kelsey felt at peace; her strength and energy returning with every minute. She felt stronger than she had been since way before her cancer symptoms.

After her adventure to visit her mother, her new found friends refused to leave her side, astonished that she was no longer sick and demanded to know what happened. Thankfully Lady Galadriel came to her rescue and told the dwarves that was her own business and whom to share it with. Kelsey managed to slip away from the dwarves' unfamiliar protectiveness for some time alone to re-evaluate the life-changing information provided by her mother.

Although she had quickly accepted who she was and her fate, Kelsey hadn't had the chance to really let it sink in. She couldn't believe that her parents didn't tell her about her mysterious appearance on their doorstep, or the truth behind her necklace. She truly believed that she was their biological daughter, even when she appreciated athletic activities more than literacy like her librarian parents. I guess that was my Middle-Earth soul trying to remind me who I really was and prepare me for my return.

Kelsey clenched her fists into the lilac dress that had been the replacement of her drenched nightgown. Its sleeves falling perfectly on her wrists yet the skirt pooling around her feet as it was made for someone taller. It had a low front and it showed more cleavage than she wanted, but unfortunately it was the only available dress that fitted her while the elves made more clothing for her.

She was angry at her parents for lying to her; she was angry at her real parents for sending her away; she was angry at the fate that laid out in front of her. But she was more furious at the entity that came to be known as the Darkness. How dare it decide to try to corrupt the light and think that it could get away with it?

Suddenly a tremor shook through her body, throwing her into a white light of a vision; this time not of the past but of the future.

She stood on a battlefield of bodies and blood, mourning cries filling the air. Dwarves, elves and humans alike rushed past her, sadness on their faces. Kelsey looked around and spotted the Company, standing around a body. As she edged closer, she realised that the body was of a female, her black corset revealing a bloodied wound and her legs splayed awkwardly. A sword of starlight standing upright in the ground a few metres away. She was looking down at her own broken body, held in the arms of a sobbing Kili…

"No!" she screamed, coming back to her senses, flinging her hands over her face and placing her head on her knees as she rocked back and forth. "I don't want to die, don't want to die."

A hand softly planted itself on her back making her jump in fright, before sighing in relief when it was Kili, a piece of bread in his hands.

"Thought you might be hungry," he grinned, sitting down next to her, slightly jumping as she flung her arms around his neck, sobbing. "Hey, hey what's wrong?"

"Oh it was horrible, Kili. My powers have begun to show themselves and I saw a vision of my death," Kelsey whimpered, as she pulled back from him. Placing the food in his lap, Kili reached up and wiped away the tears that fell from her eyes and brushing a stray hair behind her ear.

"I will not let anything happen to you, Kelsey. That is my promise to you," he said with a smile and unconsciously drew his head closer, resting his forehead against hers. "I was upmost terrified when I saw you lying in that bed, so fragile and deathly pale; knowing that there was nothing I could do. So I vow to protect you with all my power."

Kelsey stared into his eyes, studying them to find reassurance and admiration. Her heart began to race as she glanced down at his lips and then quickly back up to his eyes; a blush forming on her cheeks. Kili leant forward and just as his lips lightly brushed against hers; the crunching of running footsteps interrupted them, bouncing back from each other as a young boy of ten summers old appeared in their view.

"Milady, I was sent to inform you that supper is ready," he squeaked, realising that he was interrupting something. Kili simply shook his head and laughed, before getting up and helping Kelsey up; the bread long forgotten. Kelsey took in deep breaths to try and balance her heavy breathing from her almost kiss. She felt that it was too soon and she wanted to appreciate her friendship with Kili before it became anything more.

"What is your name, kid?" she asked, before he had the chance to escape. With just a small glance at his grey-blue eyes, she felt that this boy had an important role in the future of Middle-Earth.

"Estel, milady. My name is Estel."

Damn you Estel! You had to interrupt them!

A short chapter but the next one will be longer, with the promised duel between Kili and Kelsey and the venture over the Misty Mountains. Please review and let me know what you think of this story so far. Night night xx
