Pushing herself up the rocky path that was leading through the dangerous Misty Mountain, Kelsey flicked some of her long hair that had gotten loose from her braid. She found her breathing a little heavy since she had accidently tightened her corset too much that morning and the long sleeves of her white tunic clung to her skin, as she and the Company battled the fierce storm that lay in their direction. Lighting lit up the dark sky allowing her to just see Kili in front of her; head down and concentrating on the slippery rocks. A commotion forced her to glance behind her where she just caught the glimpse of Dwalin and Bofur pulling Bilbo back as he was about to fall into the deep chasm.
"We must find shelter!" shouted Thorin over the heavy rain and thunder.
Suddenly Dwalin shouts and they all looked up to see a massive boulder hurtling through the air, hitting the mountainside above them; rocks falling all around them as they huddled the best against the mountain. Kelsey could feel both Kili's and Fili's arms pressed against her so that she wouldn't fall. It didn't make her feel any safer for she knew they all needed to get off this mountain as soon as possible.
"This is no thunderstorm; it's a thunder battle! Look!" announced Balin, fear coursing through his voice. Kelsey looked up and saw a stone giant rearing up from a nearby mountain and ripping off a massive boulder from the top of the mountain.
"Well bless me, the legends are true. Giants; Stone Giants!" said Bofur, in awe as he stepped closer to the edge. The others screamed at him to take cover as Giant number one threw a boulder far in the air, hitting the second Giant which had appeared from behind the Company. The rocks beneath their feet began to give way from the all the vibrations and the impact of the falling rocks. The ground between Kili and Kelsey starts to split as they tried to reach out for each other.
"Kelsey! Grab my hand!" shouted Kili, his hand barely touching Kelsey's outstretched hand before too far away. Fili grabbed onto her arm to keep her steady, trying to hold on tight as they are flung about. The group of the left side managed to jump to a more stable spot while Kelsey, Fili and the rest of them were flying towards the side of the wall, threatening to smash them to bits.
"No! No! Fili!" screamed Thorin as they rushed to where the others appeared to be crushed and found them alive. Kelsey was curled up next to Fili, silently sobbing in terror as he had a protective arm around her. Kili rushed over and help his brother and best friend up; pulling Kelsey into a warm embrace, trying to calm her down.
"Where's Bilbo? Where's the Hobbit?" shouted Bofur, frantically looking around for him. Kelsey peered from Kili's water shirt to see Ori dive onto the ground trying to grab onto the dangling Bilbo who slipped and fell another few feet. Dwarves scramble to pull him up with no success, until Thorin swung down on the cliff next to Bilbo and boost him to the others, before losing his own grip. Kelsey watched as Dwalin managed to pull him back up to safety.
"I thought we'd lost our burglar," sighed Dwalin.
"He's been lost ever since he left home. He should never have come. He has no place amongst us," grunted Thorin as he walked off to find a cave, ignoring the glare from Kelsey.
They eventually found a dry cave and quickly searched right to the back in case of unknown enemies. Kelsey had been hoping to sit by the fire to warm up that Gloin was about to start but Thorin forbid it, claiming it wasn't the right place. She ended up pulling her hair out of the braid to dry and hoped that her clothes would dry eventually as she lied down on her slightly damp bedroll. Kili placed himself next to her, squeezed her hand in reassurance before closing his eyes to get some sleep; she not far behind.
After what seemed like 10 mins of sleep, Kelsey was jolted awake from Thorin' shouting before falling down the collapsed floor. She screamed as the Company fell down a long, rock chute; landing in a giant, wooden cage. She luckily avoided being squashed being Bombur but that led to her being grabbed first by the horde of goblins that attacked them.
She could feel her weapons being ripped away from her and small hands touching her in inappropriate areas. Kelsey lashed out, sending powerful kicks to goblins that came near her and refused to be taken anyway. Kili tried his best to make his way over to her but was held back. They were all marched through a vast network of tunnels and wooden bridges to a room which Kelsey realised was a throne room and there, sitting on a bone throne, was the Great Goblin holding a mace topped with a skull. He was far large than any other goblin and was extremely ugly with warts all over his swinging chin. Kelsey tried not to gag when she and her friends were halted in front of him. The Great Goblin jumped off his throne, trampling several goblins and approached the Company with curiosity.
"Who would be so bold as to come armed into my kingdom? Spies? Thieves? Assassins?" he asked, his eyes widening at the sight of the dwarves.
"Dwarves and a strong woman, Your Malevolence."
"Dwarves?"
"We found them on the front porch."
"Well don't just stand there; search them! Every crack, every crevice," sneered the Great Goblin before stopping to smell the air and staring at Kelsey. "What is this familiar smell? Ah, an Ulrag scum! Bring her forward."
Protesting against the strong grips of the goblins, Kelsey was pushed down to the ground, kneeling before the King Goblin. She could hear the shouts from the dwarves as the Goblin lifted up her chin with one fat finger. Kelsey ignored her nausea as she tried to not take in the stench coming from him.
"Yes, definitely an Ulrag," he confirmed after having one glance at her eyes. "I've met your filthy mother before, young Ulrag. She was the one who gave me this scar and destroy half of my kingdom."
"What the heck is an Ulrag?" asked Kelsey, defiantly staring at the Goblin.
"It's what we call your kind, little Star," he sneered, running his pointed nail through her hair. "You are a pretty little thing. I'm sure the Ulrag Gijak would appreciate my gift to them for they haven't feasted on young star blood for a few years."
"But I am willing to not give you as a gift to them but keep you as a pet if you tell me what you are doing in these parts," said the Great Goblin, thinking he was giving her a good deal. Kelsey looked back to the ground and kept silent. She was way too stubborn to break.
"Well then, if she will not talk, we'll make her squawk! Bring out the Mangler! Bring out the Bone Breaker!" singed the Goblin to his subjects who all laughed and jeered.
"Wait."
Kelsey watched to see Thorin stepping forward, his hands clenched in fists. He gave her a look that said that he would handle this and she nodded in response.
'Well, well, well, look who it is. Thorin son of Thrain, son of Thror; King Under the Mountain," laughed the Goblin before bowing exaggeratedly and sneering. "Oh, but I'm forgetting, you don't have a mountain. And you're not a king. Which makes you nobody, really. I know someone who would pay a pretty price for your head. Just a head, nothing attached. Perhaps you know of whom I speak, an old enemy of yours. A Pale Orc astride a White Warg."
"Azog the Defiler was destroyed. He was slain in battle long ago," said Thorin, in surprise and disbelief. Kelsey remembered the story that Balin told back when she first arrived and realised the Azog was the orc that cut off Thorin's grandfather's head off.
"So you think his defiling days are done, do you?" laughed the Goblin once more before turning to a tiny goblin sitting in a basket and holding a slate.
"Send word to the Pale Orc; tell him I have found his prize. And inform Ulrag Gijak that I have found them a fresh Star to have."
And with that, the tiny goblin writes down the message and cackled as his basket started to slide down a system of ropes and pulley into the darkness. Kelsey felt terror rush over her as the goblins swarmed around her, pulling her to her feet and start to drag her away from the Company.
"No, no, Kelsey," screamed Kili trying to rush to protect her before being tackled to the ground by a large goblin.
"KILI!"
Haha I didn't realise how long this chapter was until I finished. So what is this Ulrag Gijak and their deal with star blood? This will be explain a little later on in the story.
