Chapter 142 – Fishy Business
Takes place after chapter 132.
The man looked dangerous. He was tall and broad, hair clipped short and neat. He moved with purpose, like a beast on the prowl. Eyes never ceased moving and he had a large scar bisecting his left eye from forehead to cheek. When he focused on his target, he growled. "There you are, you scarred bastard," he said in a very thick and heavy accent.
"You're one to talk," Moody snorted back, utterly unimpressed and unintimidated. "You might have less scars but you're more of a bastard than me."
"Is that so?" The man towered over Moody and they glared at each other for long moments before they broke out laughing and exchanged back-slapping embraces. "You look good my friend," the man said warmly. "Much better than the last time I saw you."
"Been doing some rehab and therapy," Moody admitted.
"What?! You?! And who managed to convince you to do that you stubborn mule?"
"Get bent you fat German bastard," Moody snorted.
"Fat?! I am not fat!" the man gasped, grievously wounded.
The woman who had accompanied the man sighed wearily and offered a hand to the others who were watching in varying degrees of shock and surprise. "Seeing how no one will introduce us, I am Anna Vogel. That is my uncle, Lukas Vogel."
"Pleasure to meet you," Harry said, shaking her hand warmly. "I'm Harry Potter. This is Luna Lovegood. That's Oliver Wood." Luna and Oliver shook her hand. "That's Tracy Davis-Greengrass," he introduced while Tracey waved merrily.
"Nice to meet you too," Anna smiled back. "And I know of Director Bones but not well. Uncle and I are Aurors in the German Ministry. He is number two in the department so he has had dealings with foreign Aurors. And as you see, he and Moody are good friends."
"And hear," Tracy smiled. "Only good friends can insult each other so openly like that."
Moody brought Lukas over and introduced them all to him.
"Ah, you must be the one that has convinced this one to take better care of himself," Lukas said warmly, shaking Harry's hand enthusiastically. "Tell me how, if you will. He is very stubborn and I have wasted many years trying to convince him."
Harry flexed his hand slightly. Lukas' handshake had been energetic and was like squeezing metal. "I can't take full responsibility," Harry smiled. "Dora helps a lot too. But it's more SamaMum, well my wife's mother, and my daughters too."
"You? Convinced by children? I thought you said you would rather deal with ravenous pixies than actual children," Lukas asked with sincere shock.
"For the most part," Moody grunted. "But Potter's kids are like their mother and grandmother. They have a way of making you feel bad if you don't do what they want. And they genuinely want you to get better. It's really annoying."
"They really do," Oliver smiled with Luna, Tracy, and Amelia nodding in agreement.
"I'm not sure I like what you lot are insinuating," Harry sniffed.
"At least they use their powers for good," Luna said brightly. "Usually."
"Go on, show them the picture," Amelia said, grinning at Moody.
"You carry a picture of them?!" Lukas gasped.
Moody scowled but fished out a slim silver case out of his chest robe pocket. Within was a picture of Moody holding Iris and with Dahlia hugging him on the other side. All were smiling with Moody looking especially soft and gentle.
"That is not you," Lukas said with disbelief. "I have only seen you smile when you take down the target." He flinched when Anna swatted him irritably.
"Please, be less annoying," she sighed, making the others laugh. She cooed at the picture. "They are very adorable!"
"Right then, what are we waiting for?" Moody said after carefully putting the case away.
"Dora," Harry said.
"She's coming?" Luna asked while Moody and Amelia groaned slightly.
"She still hasn't forgotten about the gigante hunt and was none too happy about our first fishing trip," Harry said.
"That was a successful hunt!" Amelia complained.
"You went after a gigante?" Lukas asked with interest.
"That smuggling ring I told you about," Moody said.
"Oh right right."
A loud crack heralded Tonks' arrival and she whirled slightly, grabbing onto Harry's offered arm for balance. "Thanks little bro," she said, getting her balance and bearings. "Wotcher," she greeted Oliver, Luna, and Tracy before she gave Moody a look, making one of her eyes turn bright electric blue too.
"You remember Vogel, right?" Moody asked, looking amused.
"Oh yeah. You called me an unprofessional tart and asked me if I knew how to get you a cup of coffee," Tonks said, looking at Lukas with a flat expression.
"I said you looked unprofessional," Lukas amended, flinching when Anna swatted him again. "I had no idea you were an Auror too based on your dress! Also I am still waiting on that coffee."
"Harry, did you bring coffee?" Tonks asked sweetly.
"Not for throwing," Harry said, hugging her.
"Hmm, guess you'll just have to keep waiting then," she said to Lukas while hugging Harry back.
"Oh this will be good," Tracy grinned. "Unresolved issues and harpoons go together swimmingly."
"Let's get going before someone that isn't a dragonfish gets harpooned then," Amelia sighed.

The Portkey took them to the same landing place they came to the last time they visited the coast. It was as cold and beautiful as they remembered. The wind blew strongly and the waves crashed against the rocks with enthusiasm. Salt spray filled the air and the sun was bright, shining down on them.
"I'm surprised Daphne let you come again," Harry said.
"I promised to only go for smaller ones," Tracy said.
"Are you going to keep that promise?" Oliver asked, smiling.
"Hey, I never break a promise!" Tracy said indignantly.
"Did you promise to not help others go after larger ones?" Luna asked.
"No and shut up," Tracy growled, making them laugh.
"I can't believe people want to come to a rocky awful place like this, willingly, to go after fucking dragonfish," Tonks grumbled as they picked their way over the broken ground. "Fishing by the creek is fine, the grass is soft and it's peaceful there."
"You fish too?" Anna asked.
"Well, I like to nap while they fish," Tonks admitted. "Are you a mad hunter like those three?"
Anna shrugged. "Yes and no. I like it depending on the hunt target. I mostly come to keep Uncle from doing something stupid."
"Oh then you understand," Tonks sighed deeply.
"I do," Anna replied with the same exact sigh.
They reached the Dragonfish Pits and it was like they remembered them: a warren of tunnels and pits and pools carved into the stone. The waves washed over the far end, filling them with water and the tide was on the rise, filling the area even more. Already they could see dragonfish moving about in the deeper tunnels and pools.
Harry made gestures with his wand and conjured many large stones into being. They shuddered with his magic and soon he had a platform made, suspended on pillars that merged with the natural rock below, sturdy and comforting. Rails surrounded the platform and he cast numerous protection charms on the entire structure. Chairs were summoned as well as a very large icebox and even some lockers for belongings. He completed it with an easel and a side table at one end and a large and long reclined lounge chair beside.
"Just the way I like it," Luna said happily, standing beside the easel and putting her travel paint kit down on the table.
"Same!" Tonks said, lying back on the chair and looking quite comfortable despite the surroundings.
"That is impressive wandwork," Lukas said, looking at everything with an approving eye. He kicked a pillar and winced and hopped up and down on the other leg. "Very solid!"
Harry grinned and cast a minor injury healing charm on his foot. "Thanks! I'm doing a Transfiguration Mastery."
"You're a Transfiguration Master already," Oliver grinned.
"And healing? Very good." Lukas looked at Harry with consideration. "Are you in your Auror Corps? If not, why not?"
"I will stab you and use you as bait for those dragonfish," Tonks warned, glaring at Lukas.
"I am almost tempted to see you try," Lukas snorted.
"Lad's had a hard life and there's no need to make it harder," Moody said sincerely. "Besides, him not being an Auror is why he tolerates us now and goes with us on these things." He winked his good eye. "Otherwise we wouldn't be hunting and fishing in comfort like this."
"That and I promised SamaMum and GrandPoppy I wouldn't let you get too hurt and undo their work," Harry smiled at Moody, making him snort deeply. "And watching over GrandMelia for Sirius and the girls."
"He's the one that needs watching," Amelia sighed, flushing but smiling. "And your girls. Though their antics are funny and adorable where Sirius' is just annoying."
"I don't mind their antics together," Oliver grinned. "Though when it's just Hadley, it can get a bit much. She's too clever sometimes, just like her Mum."
"Dally is a calming influence on her and Hailey," Luna smiled as she put up a piece of canvas and arrayed her paints and brushes out.
"Somehow," Harry laughed.
They split up to fish and hunt. Amelia, Moody, and Lukas went off into the sea proper with their harpoons while Oliver and Harry stuck to the shallow tidepools with their fishing rods. Tracy and Anna walked about and decided to do some spear fishing with the deeper tidepools. Luna painted and Tonks fell asleep, snoring away.
"Oh good catch," Luna exclaimed, clapping her hands when Harry returned with an impressive specimen dangling from the line.
"Thanks! It was a good one I think." He put it in the ice box. "I brought Captain's first one back too. He was hoping to catch a second one." He walked over and laughed at the painting Luna was working on. "That's amazing."
"Dora said something evocative and I had to paint it," Luna said. She smiled at the painted Tonks dangling a tied-up Lukas over the shore where multicolored dragonfish leapt for him. "How are the others faring?"
"Tracy and Anna caught a really big one. Bigger than the bastard pike. Anna's teaching Tracy how to drain it and they're going to split it." He rolled his eyes. "Alastor, Amelia, and Lukas caught a big one each and they're currently looking for an even bigger one."
"As big as the one from the last time?"
"I really hope not," Harry said and opened a cooler and started removing wrapped food and drink from within.
"I'm up," Tonks said sleepily as soon as Harry removed the wrapper from the sandwich, the wax paper crinkling.
"First one's yours," Harry grinned and handed it to her.
"Thanks!" She chomped on it. "Mmm, roast beef, horseradish, lettuce, and pickles. Tasty!" She woke up more as she ate. "Have to admit, this place is pretty."
"It is," Harry agreed, sitting beside her and eating his own sandwich.
Luna had hers levitating beside her and she took bites as she continued to paint. "Dragonfish are so pretty. And also very tasty." Eventually Oliver, Tracy, and Anna returned and happily took their own sandwiches and they chatted and ate together.
"I am happy to see Mister Moody in a better state," Anna said softly. "He and my uncle are good friends but Uncle has always worried about him."
"Tell me about it. My cousin is an Auror and she was dead scared of him," Oliver said. "Still is, but even she says he's way different than her training days."
"Family does that," Luna said.
"His family isn't very good to him, so he said," Harry said sadly.
"They sure as shit aren't," Tonks growled, her hair turning red and her eyes black. "Bunch of snooty arseholes they are."
"Well, we can make up for it then," Luna said simply.
"Yeah we can," Harry smiled.
"I love your painting," Anna smiled. She had laughed loudly and long when she saw her uncle being dangled as bait. She had talked about purchasing some work from Luna and Luna had swapped out to a new canvas and was painting the shoreline and the horizon.
"She's the best," Harry said proudly and Luna hugged him and kissed him on the cheek.
"She really is. It's so cool seeing her stuff pop up here and there and I can tell people I know the artist," Tracy said smugly.
Oliver frowned. "What are you painting by the way?"
"What I see."
"And what's that?" Oliver asked, pointing at a shape along the shore in the painting.
"It's that." Luna pointed out to the shore in the near distance. Everyone followed her finger, looking to where she's pointing.
"If it's kinda small now, that must mean it's kinda big if you're closer to it, right?" Tracy asked hesitantly.
"Yeah…" Oliver said slowly.
"Schiese," Anna swore. "It's getting closer!"
"What the hell is that?" Tonks asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Oh it's a Sea Lion," Luna said. She had pulled out her omnioculars and focused on the distance object.
"No it's not, I've seen those before," Tracy said. "Sea lions look like seals. They're smooth and friendly looking."
"Liones Hydratus," Luna clarified. "Magical creature. It's like an aquatic cat but it has gills so it is also like a fish. The mane is made of spiny protrusions to look like seaweed to lure prey in or to wait in ambush."
"And because it's a sea lion, it probably is a predator, right?" Harry asked, seeing the creature approach the shore.
"Yup. Like its land name's sake. See the long snout and the big fangs?"
"Does it usually eat dragonfish?" Tonks groaned.
"It can. It's not terribly picky," Luna said.
"Uhm, it's headed to the shore where the other three are…" Oliver said.
"Fuck! I'm going to fucking kill them after I fucking save them!" Tonks shouted and wand in hand, vaulted over the platform railing, followed closely behind by Harry and Anna.
"Should we follow?" Tracy asked, looking uncertain.
"Let's stay here and be back up," Oliver said. "Maybe we should call the others and-wait Luna!" He sighed when Luna had scampered after the others. "Oh boy…"
"Now we have to go help," Tracy sighed. "Daphne's going to kill me."
"Same with Alicia," Oliver said as they went over the side.

"TRACY BELLADONNA GREENGRASS-DAVIS!" Daphne shrieked at the top of her lungs.
"Your middle name is Belladonna?" Luna asked, eyes sparkling.
"Yes, Mum picked it out because she thought it was cute," Tracy groaned.
"It is cute," Luna said. "It's also another name for deadly nightshade."
"Yeah, which is kinda cool but still, not the best middle name," Tracy sighed.
"WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT?!" Daphne yelled pointing at the thing that had returned to the Village with them.
"Liones Hydratus," Luna said happily. "A magical sea lion, not to be confused with the Muggle sea lion."
"It really does look like a shark and a lion had a baby together," Angelina gasped.
"Oh poor baby," Katie said, looking at a very tired and slightly injured looking Harry. "Let me guess, Amelia decided to make the first move?"
"Hey! Not this time," Amelia sniffed.
"She's right, actually," Harry said. He shook his head. "So apparently, Liones Hydratuses are migratory and the shore by Dragonfish Pits is a popular stopping point for them because they can hunt and eat dragonfish to sustain them on the next leg of the journey. And Amelia, Alastor, and Lukas had caught some of their own and were cleaning them in the seawater and like sharks, the Liones is attracted to blood."
Harry looked sourly at the very large body of the magical sea lion beside them. "So this one decided to try and poach their kills for an easy feed. Which apparently, irritated them."
"We caught our dragonfish first, how you say, fair and square," Lukas complained. "I will not let some lazy thing try to take my hard work."
"What he said," Amelia said.
Moody only shook his head and sipped from his flask.
"So then Amelia made her move," Harry ignored her wounded look, "and it was also her fault for pursuing it even after it was already moving off."
"I don't like poachers," Amelia sniffed.
"I should have let the damn thing eat the three of you!" Tonks said angrily, wringing her hair out of salt water. She had long scratches on her arms and legs and she looked livid. "Then I could be Head of the Auror Department because Boss would be in Boss Lady's spot and I wouldn't have to deal with you three idiots!"
"So we had to join the fray and we managed to kill it before it did any serious harm," Harry finished tiredly.
"You can't get mad at me! I didn't go after it! I was helping!" Tracy yelped, trying to escape Daphne.
"Same here," Oliver said, holding his hands up to an angry Alicia. "I was actually hoping to stay back and be long distance support but Luna ran off after them and I knew you'd get even more mad if I didn't go after to help."
Alicia groaned. "You're right. Thank you." She kissed a relieved Oliver. "Luna, why would you run towards the danger?!"
"To get a better look and to help if needed," Luna said glibly. "Look, I got it in action." She showed a very amazing looking picture of the Liones in mid-jump.
"How did you know about the migration thing?" Katie asked as she set to with healing charms and spells over them.
"Because we had to call it into the Ministry and the Magical Creature Department. The representative wasn't too happy but there was enough evidence of self-defense so that there won't be a charge and he let Amelia keep the body," Harry sighed.
"I don't think Sirius is going to like having that stuffed and mounted," Katie muttered.
"Me neither," Harry muttered back.
"How did you guys take it out?" Angelina asked.
"It was very impressive," Lukas said. "We managed to drive it into the shallows where it could not maneuver. Anna blinded it and Tonks finished it with a thrown harpoon and it was charmed so that the other harpoons flew to the same spot, driving deep into the beast's chest and dispatching it."
He hiked a thumb at Harry. "He was good at protection spells and transfiguration spells. It is a waste that he is not an Auror or a Hit Wizard."
Harry jumped and tackled Tonks who, having heard Lukas, had picked up an extra harpoon and aimed it at his back. Anna slapped her uncle on the back of the head and started lambasting him in German, eagerly pulling him farther away from Tonks struggling with Harry.
"Let me go," Tonks hissed, wrestling with him. "I'm going to do it. I'm going to spear him through the bollocks from behind. I can hit them even if they're tiny!"
"Girls, Auntie Dora needs calming down," Harry called and he extricated himself from the pile that the bunnies made with Dora. He looked fondly down at the little girls hugging and squeezing Dora, making her go still. Physically anyways. She grumbled and swore under her breath and Katie cast a Silencing Charm on her to spare the children.
"Sorry lad," Moody said weakly. "Lukas is a good Auror but kinda an arsehole. You know, like me, only a better person."
"You know the limits though," Harry grinned. "No apologies necessary. Mostly because I'm making you explain to SamaMum what happened."
"Fair enough," Moody snorted.

odonnellzoo99 - Andi's line killed me when I wrote it. The idea of the three bunnies saying, seriously, 'we're here to ransom a captive' was hilarious enough, but Andi made it so much more better.
alix33 - Imagine the antics they could have gotten into if Captain Hedwig was there to lead them.
Arnie1701 - Captain Jack Sparrow loves that song.
TheSphynx - No they wouldn't. Davy Jones would balk at them.
Ghostwriter - Those kids are especially precocious.
poka - Yup. I like how the adults all indulge them honestly and without being condescending. That they legitimately enjoy the antics.
WhatHaveIDiscovered - I don't know if I will include those in this, if I even make it there. At that point, I might make a whole other collection. But we will see. I have enough to do currently.
