Synopsis: Cam only partially believes it when Sam, Daniel and Teal'c tell him that Jack is his father. What happens when Cam finally confronts Jack about what he was told? How will he react to finding out that it's actually true?

Cameron spent the next week thinking about what Sam, Daniel and Teal'c had told him about General O'Neill regarding mission file 30185. The more he thought about it the more it kind of made sense.

'What if they hadn't been pranking him?' He thought

As much as Cameron wanted answers to the millions of questions floating around in his mind, he couldn't bring himself to face General O'Neill to ask those questions.

So instead Cameron just wandered the halls of the base. No one else was there, except for the normal guards.

General Landry was out with his daughter, who was finally giving him a second chance. Teal'c was off-world visiting his son. Sam was with Cassie, and Daniel took Vala out for the day.

No one was supposed to be at the base. None of the teams were scheduled for any missions today, and Cameron definitely didn't expect to run into General Jack O'Neill.

"Colonel Mitchell?" Jack called out

Cameron jumped at the sound of his name, "General O'Neill? What…what are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing."

"Oh..I just came in to finish my mission report from yesterday."

Jack nodded, "Right."

"What about you, Sir?"

"I was called here because of you."

Cameron's eyes widened, "Oh! I am so sorry, General."

"What's bothering you?"

"Nothing. It's just that…" He trailed off, "It's nothing. I'm sorry to have bothered you, Sir."

Jack watched as Cameron rushed out. He hadn't spent much time with the new leader of SG-1, but Jack had handpicked Cameron to replace him. And that had been for a very good reason.

Around the corner, Jack heard soft giggling that he recognised as belonging to his former second-in-command.

"Carter." He called out

"Yes Sir?" Sam questioned as she stepped into view

"Do you know of any reason why Colonel Mitchell would be uncomfortable around me?"

Sam shook her head, "No, Sir."

Jack hummed, "Okay. I thought you were with Cassie."

"I was. She went home to study for a test."

Jack nodded, "And why are you here now?"

"You know why, Sir. I was just going up to my lab."

Sam and Jack parted ways, heading in opposite directions. Sam laughed internally as she thought about Cameron. She thought he didn't believe her, Daniel and Teal'c, but obviously there was a part of him that did.

Sam wondered how long it would be before Cameron actually worked up the courage to ask General O'Neill about it.

Two weeks had gone by since Jack and Cameron's uncomfortable encounter. Neither man had stopped thinking about it since, and Cameron especially couldn't stop thinking about whether or not there was a real possibility of Jack being his father.

It was the weekend. Cameron knew that Jack would be at his cabin, so he showed up there to talk with his boss. It was time to finally speak up.

Cameron knocked on the door, waiting a few moments before the door was opened.

"Colonel Mitchell?" Jack uttered, "What brings you here?"

"Sir, you were right. Something is bothering me. I just need to know…." Cameron started, "Are you….you know, my daddy?"

Jack stared at him, "What?"

Before Cameron could explain he heard a familiar voice in the background. One that he had not been expecting.

"Jack, who's at the door?" The voice asked as footsteps drew closer and closer.

"Sam." Cameron uttered shocked

Jack looked back and forth between Cameron and Sam, "Okay. Cameron, where would you get the idea that I'm your father from?"

"Oh…I was being punked, wasn't I?"

Sam nodded, "We tried to tell you."

"Both of you explain. Now." Jack ordered

"Well…Sam, Daniel and Teal'c told me that you were my father as a prank. A part of me started believing it though, because of some very good points that they made."

Cameron went on to explain about the X-302 program and being put on SG-1. How he didn't think he deserved either, and the point about Jack always taking an interest in his life.

Finally understanding, Jack invited Cameron in, sitting him down for a talk.

"I am not your father, Cameron, but I did know your father. I promised him on his deathbed that I would look out for you."

"So I didn't get the role of leader of SG one because of nepotism?"

Jack shook his head, "No. You didn't."

Cameron glared at Sam, as did Jack.

Sam shrugged, smiling sheepishly, "Sorry."

Jack just laughed about it, while Cameron's cheeks turned bright red from embarrassment.
