A/N: I was listening to Swimming Home and I looked up the meaning of the song then BAM, the idea for this fic popped in my head. I also did a bit of research on Thai funerals because why not, you wont be seeing any of that in this fic tho. Anywayyyyys, Enjoy!

It was supposed to be a normal trip to the Brighton Senior Center. It was supposed to be a normal day of just helping and visiting nice old people. Well most of them are usually pretty nice.

Today wasn't supposed to be, well… the day that Nin died. The McGees knew her time was coming. They all knew that Nin was old and was going to die eventually Except, today wasn't supposed to be that day.

"Wait so… Grandma Nin is… gone? Like she's actually gone?" Darryl said, still in shock. When it came to certain situations, Darryl knew how to hide his feelings well. This time, however, he didn't even try to hide it. He just let the tears fall.

There was silence in the room until Bobby spoke up.

"I'm afraid so. She passed in her sleep last night. Nobody knew until this morning when one of the staff tried waking her up." Bobby explained to the family, sadness noticeably present in his voice.

The whole family froze at that. Last week when they visited, Nin was perfectly fine. Nin was perfectly healthy.

Sharon then remembered the strained relationship between her and her mom. The one that lasted years. It was only a few weeks after the McGees had moved to Brighton that she and Nin had finally made amends. She was trying to keep it together for her kids and husband. Sharon was trying so hard to keep it together but the dam finally burst after only a few minutes.

Pete embraced Sharon as she cried and he started crying as well. Usually, he'd be the first to break down. The relationship between Nin and Pete wasn't great when they first met. They did grow a little closer after Molly was born though.

Darryl silently cried in his sister's arms as she comforted him. The last time Molly had comforted him like this was 4 years ago in 4th grade when a group of kids in Darryl's class were constantly messing with him because of his Thai ancestry and his ADHD.

"It'll be okay, I promise. We'll all get through this together" Molly said as she tried to comfort him.

Darryl was in disbelief. Is she serious?! They just got the news that their grandmother was dead!

"Seriously-!" Darryl said in disbelief as he broke from the hug. "Our grandmother is dead and you aren't sad about it?!"

"Well, yeah. I mean it's not like she can't come back as a ghost! Right, Scratch?" Molly said, hoping Scratch could back her up.

Oh. OH.

Scratch froze at that. How was he going to explain that Nin might not become a ghost? How was he going to explain to Molly that people only become ghosts if they have unfinished business from when they were alive?

"Y-Yep! I mean she's probably in the Ghost World or somethin', probably going through orientation o-or lost somewhere." Scratch said trying to sound confident and failing miserably.

~ 1 HOUR LATER ~

Darryl, Sharon Pete had finally calmed down a little before the family finally went home and settled down. Meanwhile, Scratch went to the Ghost World looking for Grandma Nin.

Scratch came back from the Ghost World with no luck. Even after searching with the Geffs, Asking the Ghost Council and of course, stopping for churros.

Oh corn. How was he going to break the news to the McGees? Nin isn't a ghost. She's moved on.

"Hey Scratch! How'd your search go? Was Grandma Nin there? Is she here now?!" Molly said, coming from the living room.

Well now he's got to her. He has to tell all of them. He

"You might want to get the family for this one, Moll."

"Wait, did- did you not find her?"

"No. No I didn't. I looked everywhere, I even had Geoff Jeff helping me!"

Molly felt tears prick at her eyes. That was her last hope. She thought that everyone became a ghost after death.

"Well At least everyone else is already here." Molly said as she walked into the living room where everyone else was with Scratch floating behind her.

"Hey um… Can we call a family meeting?" Molly asked as Scratch was floating behind her.

"Sure. What's going on?" Sharon asked from her spot on the couch. Pete and Darryl were just as confused as to why a family meeting was just called.

"It's about Grandma Nin. I searched the Ghost World and she wasn't there." Scratch said. The hard part is telling the family that they won't see Nin again.

Everyone except for Molly froze.

"I checked with the Ghost Council and she isn't on their records at all. She isn't on their records only because she… well she didn't become a ghost. People only become ghosts if they die with unfinished business. So I'm guessing that Nin didn't have any unfinished business." Scratch continued.

"So… does that mean… Grandma Nin isn't coming back?" Molly said, tears already streaming down her cheeks.

"Well, I guess not. Scratch did say ghosts have unfinished business to finish and Nin lived her life. What business would she have to finish?" Pete said, trying to comfort his daughter.

"Wha-! N-no! You're lying! You're lying to me aren't you?" Molly said as the tears started pouring faster and she ran up to the attic.

~ 10:53 P.M. ~

Everyone in the McGee household was asleep- or almost everyone. Molly was up. She's been trying to sleep for over an hour

The thought of never being able to see her grandmother again made her stomach turn in ways that she didn't even know were possible. Earlier, that weird feeling in her stomach wasn't that bad, only because there was a glimmer of hope that Nin WAS a ghost. Knowing Nin wasn't coming back made it worse. Wayyy worse.

Except it was Sunday night. She has midterms tomorrow.

Finally snapping out of her thoughts, Molly noticed her laptop and her headphones on her desk. Realizing she didn't put them away before she left.

"Oh corn! That research project for English! I totally forgot that the first part was due today!" she whisper-yelled. She didn't need Scratch or her parents waking up to her forgetfulness.

Molly went over to her desk, logged in to her laptop and put on the headphones that were still plugged in.

She was listening to music while finishing part of her project.

~ 11:24 P.M. ~

Just as Molly was finishing, an unfamiliar song by the name of "Swimming Home" was playing.

"Huh? I don't remember my playlist being on shuffle. Molly said as she switched her tab from her project to MeTube.

"Swimming Home? Also who the heck is Evanescence?" Molly thought to herself.

Molly went back to her project tab and turned it in. She then replayed the song as she started researching the song then started researching who Evanescence is.

By the time Molly replayed the song 43 times, her search history looked like this:

"Swimming Home evanescence"

"Swimming Home evanescence meaning"

"who is evanescence"

"Amy Lee evanescence"

As Molly continued to research more about evanescence, she let the soft keyboard, the electronic elements and Amy's voice pull her into a trance.

~ 67TH LISTEN ~

It was past 2am and this was Molly's 67th time listening to the song. Then it hit her…

"Hold on, 2:17AM?!??? How long have I been listening to this?!" Molly almost yelled. But it was past 2 A.M. and she had midterms on like 6 hours.

"I'll just send this to the discord really quick first-" she said as she copied the song link and opened up her discord.

GHOST FRIENDZ

I found my new favorite song-

It's called Swimming Home

I've literally listened to it like 67 times already

After the messages were sent, Molly logged out of her laptop and put it away. She then unplugged her headset and put it on top of her laptop.

Favorite song? Nah, more like a stim song. A stim song that is helping Molly cope.

A/N: I wrote this to get back into the groove of writing fics. It's been since like 2022-

I'm sorry if anyone seemed OOC in any way. This was my first time writing a fic for tgamm.

Thanks for reading!
