The Next Morning - Bakugou Residence

KNOCK-KNOCK!

"Boys? It's time to get up. You both have school today," Mitsuki called out from outside the door to Katsuki's room.

...Izuku's eyes slowly opened, gradually waking up from his slumber...upon seeing the unfamiliar ceiling, he soon realized that he wasn't in his room.

...Oh...right...

Remembering everything that happened last night, he sat up groggily from his futon, yawning as he stretched his arms.

"Urrrgg..." Izuku groaned in relief once he stretched out his joints. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he glanced at where Katsuki's bed was.

It looked like Katsuki was also sitting up from his bed, rubbing his eyes. When he turned to glance at Izuku, he stared at him for a moment.

"...Hey. Mornin'."

Izuku smiled sadly, "Mornin'."

"Hm..." Katsuki then swung his legs off the edge of his bed and hopped off it. "Well, come on. Let's see what we're having for breakfast."

Nodding to that, Izuku said, "Sure," as he got up from his futon and followed Katsuki.

They made their way out of Katsuki's room and went to the kitchen where Mitsuki and Masaru were. Mitsuki was making breakfast while Masaru was on his laptop, reading the news. Once the boys came in, Masaru looked up from his computer and smiled at them.

"Morning, boys," Masaru greeted them.

"Mornin'," Katuski muttered.

"Morning," Izuku greeted.

They both sat in their seats at the table.

Mitsuki turned her head to the boys and said with a smile, "Good morning, you two. Did you both sleep well?"

"Yeah, I did," Katsuki mumbled.

"I did as well," Izuku said with a nod.

"Good," she turned around, carrying their two breakfast plates full of eggs, bacon, and sausage, placing them on the table near their seats, "Well, hurry up and eat, boys. We have to...well, we have to go over to Izuku's place to get his things. Then we can get ready to go to school."

"Okay. Thank you, Auntie Mitsuki," Izuku said with a nod and a sad smile.

"Yeah...and thanks for the meal, Mom," Katsuki said with a mumble and a nod.

Mitsuki looked at her son for a moment, a little surprised that he called her by the term 'Mom' instead of 'Hag'. She couldn't help but smile at the boy.

Well, this is new.

The Bakugou family and Izuku all soon were sitting at the table and eating their breakfasts, Bakugou eating normally, while Izuku was eating a little more gradually, but he picked up the pace a bit when he realized he was eating slowly. Before Izuku could take the last few bites in, Masaru spoke up as he read his laptop, "Izuku, just so you know...they...well, the police got the guy who..." he tried to say it as delicately as he could, "...who harmed your mother."

Izuku was about to take a bite of his eggs when he heard that info, "Oh..." he looked down at his plate with a serious expression on his face, "...Good."

Katsuki grunted with a nod, "Yeah. I hope he gets executed for what he did."

"...I couldn't agree more, Katsuki," Mitsuki nodded in agreement, briefly looking at her husband with a brief knowing expression.

Masaru hummed in agreement and nodded. He looked back at the screen of his laptop to briefly read the news report from last night.

From what he read about the incident, the man known as 'Gary' was killed by a missile that was aimed at the patrol car he was in. They didn't watch everything on the local news last night, but they did get all the info in the early morning. They were both shocked to find out that Inko was targeted by a prostitution ring from America. And not only that, but this ring was kidnapping younger women in the age group of late teens, to their twenties and early thirties. It led up to a bust of the ring that was taken down by All Might and another unknown Hero called Batman. However, two of these criminals got away to return to America, but they all got the remaining men who worked in this ring into custody. From what they said, they were headquartered in Gotham City by a man known as Black Mask, a crime lord. Gary's death was said to be a hired hit from his boss, Black Mask, so he wouldn't give away his position and let the authorities catch wind of who was responsible. The other criminals were going to be deported to America to be trialed there.

Well...you don't have to worry about that, Katsuki. Masaru thought solemnly.

The family ate their breakfast in silence...

As they drove up to the apartment complex where the Midoriya family lives, Mitsuki, Izuku, and Katsuki all got out of the car to go to the landlord's office.

The landlord was an older man who wore casual clothes and glasses, but there was a third eyeball on top of his forehead. He sat behind his desk, looking at a TV that was hanging in the upper left corner of the room. Once he turned to see who entered his office, the man instantly recognized Izuku.

"Oh. Izuku," the landlord said, his eyes giving off a sad look to them, "Thank goodness. I was wondering where you were. I...I saw the news..."

Izuku frowned and looked down, nodding quietly.

Katsuki glanced at Izuku, looking at his expression for just a moment...

Mitsuki shifted in her stance a little awkwardly as she cleared her throat, "Um, hello. My name is Bakugou Mitsuki. I'm...well, I'm a good friend of Inko's, and my husband and I are going to be the caretakers for her son Izuku here for a very good while."

"Oh? Inko entrusted you with Izuku?" the landlord asked.

"Yeah...we were going to get his things for school. Also, my husband and I were thinking of getting his things from his home later on while they're in school, so would it be okay if we come back here later? Do you also, um...have a spare key for their apartment right now?"

The landlord looked at Mitsuki for a moment, until he gave out a small smile. "Sure thing," he went over to the back of his office and got another key that unlocked the Midoriya residence. He hands Mitsuki the key, but not until the landlord cups his hand under her hand as he gives it to her in her palm. Uncertain of what this could mean, Mitsuki looked at the landlord curiously. But it was then she saw his face. It was filled with tender sorrow, his frown solemn and his three eyes pleading.

"Take good care of Izuku. He doesn't deserve another loss," he said quietly to her, just in case Izuku didn't hear.

Mitsuki stared at the landlord for a second and sighed, muttering to him, "Right...my husband and I will. There's no need to worry about that."

The landlord nodded as he smiled, "Thank you."

Nodding to the man with a small smile of her own, Mitsuki turned to Izuku and Katsuki and told them, "Okay then, boys, we should get going."

Once they reached the floor and the room of the Midoriya residence, Mitsuki unlocked the door and opened it.

Izuku came in first, albeit he walked in carefully, taking in the surroundings of his home...

While looking around, he had a sense of...unwanted nostalgia hitting him...

He stopped for a moment...realizing that this place would not likely be his home anymore...

Mitsuki came into the apartment with Katsuki behind her. The mother looked at Izuku, seeing how he stood, the feeling of melancholy surrounding him.

"..." She turned to Katsuki and patted his back, getting his attention as he looked up at his mother. "Katsuki. Let's go help Izuku find his stuff for school, okay?"

"...Okay," Katsuki muttered and went over to Izuku, "Hey, Izuku. Show us your room so we can get your stuff for school."

Seemingly out of his daze, Izuku turned to Katsuki. "Oh, uh...yeah..."

Izuku walked up ahead, leading Katsuki and Mitsuki to his room.

When they reached his room, Mitsuki stopped near the entrance and said, "I'll wait out here, okay?"

Both boys nodded and said "Okay" and they went inside Izuku's room.

The whole room was plastered with All Might merchandise and memorabilia...

...It made Izuku a little sad to be in his room...this was his space...but not anymore...

Katsuki looked around Izuku's room and thought one thing:

Wow. He's an All Might nerd.

And he meant that in the most respectful way.

"Cool stuff," Katsuki said to him.

"...Thanks," Izuku replied a little solemnly, "I'll get my school stuff, okay?"

Turning his attention to Izuku, Katsuki stared at the boy, not saying anything.

Izuku then went to get his book bag, checking his stuff inside it to see if he got everything. Once he saw that he did, he walked back over to Katsuki, but it was then he saw something that was on his bedside.

It was a picture...

He walked over to the picture, reaching out to it as he held it in his hand...

...It was a picture of him as a baby, his mother, and...his father...

His late father.

And now...his late mother.

...He lost both of his parents...

...The tears were starting to form in his eyes.

Sniffling, Izuku wiped his eyes and nose with his free sleeve. However, he held it together and took a deep breath. Staring at the picture, he remembered his sense of happiness in having his mother in his life...and she was taken away from him...

Now...he has no one...

Then, he felt a hand on his little shoulder.

He turned his head to the person who did so.

...It was Katsuki.

Katsuki stared at him, having that look of...understanding. Or at least he was trying to...his face looked serious, and this was kind of a serious situation for Izuku...

It was then, Katsuki said this.

"Hey. It's...gonna be okay."

It wasn't the best thing to say, but Katsuki never had this kind of experience of making people feel better before.

Izuku stood there, looking at Katsuki...his head turned back to the picture, staring at the picture once more.

"...I never knew my Dad...he died in a plane crash to America...I don't even have my grandparents anymore...I don't know my grandparents on my Dad's side, and my grandparents on my Mom's side...they died while I was born...my Mom was the only one that was there for me..."

Putting the picture back on the bedside, Izuku stood there with Katsuki's hand still on his shoulder. Katuski, not knowing what to say at this point, just stood there awkwardly with his hand on Izuku's shoulder...

"...We'll...I..." Katsuki grunted in frustration, "Hey, don't get sad on me, okay!? We'll watch over you, alright!?"

The verdant-haired boy turned his head back at the blonde boy, surprised by the outburst.

"I know it's...I know losing Auntie Inko is terrible, and...and I know you didn't know your Dad, but...we...I-I'll..." Katsuki tried to say what he needed to say to Izuku, "...W-We'll be Heroes, o-okay!? You want to let Auntie Inko see that you can, don't you!? And you definitely want All Might to see you can be a Hero also, right!?"

Izuku blinked, "R-Right..."

"Okay, then be strong! I-It may be sad for a moment, but...A-All Might always smiles or something when he faces a really big challenge! So...k-keep smiling, okay!?"

...Izuku just stared at Katsuki...

Katsuki stared at him with narrowed eyes...he shifted his stance a little bit.

Crap...that wasn't lame, was it?

...Izuku's lips then turned upward...smiling at Katsuki...

"...Thank you, Kacchan," he said, sounding really grateful.

The blonde sighed in relief, "Y-Yeah...no problem..." patting his shoulder once more, he let go of Izuku, and said, "Now come on. We got to go to school."

Izuku nodded with a smile, "Right!"

Unknown to the two boys, Mitsuki was listening in on their conversation...

...Mitsuki couldn't help but smile warmly at how her son comforted his friend...

Maybe having Izuku around is letting Katsuki see and realize what's really important...

When they were dropped off at preschool, they walked to their classroom in silence...

Once they entered their room, all of the kids crowded around Katsuki, while Izuku was out of the throng.

"Hey Katsuki!" one boy said with two horns on his head, "Do you want to play Heroes and Villains during or after school?"

"Yeah! You have such a cool Quirk! Maybe I can be your sidekick?" said a boy with wings on his back.

"Nah-uh, I want to be Katsuki's sidekick!" said the boy with horns, "Come on, Katsuki, choose me as your sidekick!"

"No, choose me!"

"Nah, choose me!"

"Alright class, settle down," said the female teacher, which she had blue skin, "You can all play around recess. We're going to start class soon."

The kids all dispersed and went to their seats on the floor. Before Katsuki could sit on his spot, he turned to Izuku, who was trailing behind a bit. He sat on his spot and sat there, quiet as he could be.

Katsuki looked at the green-haired boy...

When the teacher was about to talk, he turned to her and listened...

It was recess, and the kids were about to go to the playground near their preschool.

Izuku got up and went to exit his classroom when one of the kids, the boy with wings on his back, asked him, "Hey Deku! You're back from the doctor! What kind of Quirk do you have! Is it a cool Quirk?"

Izuku turned to the boy and looked at him for a second, until answering, "I...I don't have a Quirk..."

"Oh..." the winged boy frowned, "So you're Quirkless?"

"Quirkless?" the two-horned kid walked up to them, "Deku is Quirkless?"

"Haha! Wow, I guess he really is a Deku, isn't he?" said another boy who has a large nose. "Yeesh, he can't even have a Quirk! Haha!"

"Man, that's lame," said the disappointed winged boy.

"Yeah! Man, it sucks to be you, Deku!" the two-horned kid said.

Izuku frowned at their remarks, "I can still be a Hero."

The three kids looked at him for a second...

"PFFFFT-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Izuku looked at them in confusion and...hurt...

"Hahaha! No way! You can't be a Hero if you don't have Quirk!" the winged boy laughed.

"Yeah! What are you, stupid?" yucked up the two-horned boy.

"There's no way you can be a Hero now! You'll just be a paperweight to people all around you if you even try to become one!" laughed the big-nosed kid, "You're the definition of worthless!"

Not liking their comments, Izuku then started to glare at them. "I'm not worthless! I can still be a Hero! All Might said so! And my-"

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The boys kept laughing at him.

"All Might said that? No way! He has a Quirk, and he's the best Hero around!" winged-boy laughed at him.

"Yeah! What are you saying!? Man, keep dreaming!" the two-horned boy laughed also.

"Haha! Yeah!" big nose boy cackled, "Man, I wonder if Katsuki heard about this?"

"We gotta tell him!" the winged boy turned to where Katsuki's seat was...and saw that Katsuki was standing in front of them. "Oh! Hey Katsuki, you got to hear this! Deku has no Quirk! Hahaha! Isn't that ironic?!"

"I heard," Katsuki said with a...somewhat intense tone. He was glaring at the three boys as well.

"Eh?" big nose boy blinked, "Well then you got to think that's funny, right?"

"..." Katsuki walked forward...passing the boys...and grabbed Izuku by the arm.

"Huh?" Izuku uttered in confusion, "Kacchan-"

"Let's get out here," Katsuki mumbled.

Katsuki dragged Izuku out of the room, going their way to the playground.

The three boys looked on at the two leaving...

"...Uh...Katsuki?" winged-boy said, but the blonde was already out of earshot of them.

As soon as they went to the playground, Katsuki dragged Izuku to the benches, which made him stop when they approached them.

"Uh..." Izuku started to say, but couldn't find the words to say.

"...Don't listen to those shitheads," Katsuki muttered while not looking at him.

"...Uh...I wasn't really going to listen to them..." Izuku told him.

"...Good," Katsuki nodded. He turned around to face Izuku, "Just remember your promise to All Might and to your...your Mom..." he lowered his head as he muttered the last part.

...Izuku smiled and nodded also.

"I will."

"...Yeah..." he looked up at Izuku, "Also, don't forget about our promise!"

"I haven't! Don't worry!" Izuku said with a fist up to his chest.

Katsuki nodded, "Okay..."

"Hey, Katsuki!" said one of the three boys, the ones that were back at the school.

The big-nosed kid, the winged kid, and the two-horned kid all came up to them, with the same kid, that being the winged boy, saying, "Want to play Heroes and Villains with us? You can be the Hero we'll be the sidekicks!"

"Yeah!" the two-horned kid said, "Hey! Maybe Deku can be the Villain, since he's not gonna be a Hero!"

"Haha! Yeah, Deku says he can be a Hero even without a Quirk! Boy, that's a laugh, huh, Katsuki?" the big-nosed kid cackled.

"No it isn't, you shithead," Katsuki growled.

"...Huh?" the big-nosed kid blinked, as well as the other two boys.

Katsuki glared at all three of them.

"If Izuku thinks he can be a Hero without a Quirk, then let him think that!"

...The three boys blinked some more.

"...So...let him think that 'cause he's...a loser?" the two-horned kid said.

"NO! Let him think that, 'cause he WILL BE!" Katsuki yelled at them.

"Uh...Katsuki? Are you okay?" the winged kid asked him in worry.

"Didn't you idiots even know what happened to Izuku? His Mom got killed by a Villain, and you're just going to insult him!?"

"...Huh?" the three boys all said in surprised unison.

"Yeah! And you know what!? All Might came over to him and said that he can be a Hero! I met the guy, and...if he says so, that Izuku can be a Hero, then I believe him! And I believe in Izuku! As for your stupid game, go play it yourself! As if I choose any of you jerks to be my sidekicks!" Katsuki shouted at them.

All three of them stared at the blonde, stunned...

...It was then the winged boy said, "Man, Katsuki, I didn't think you would ever defend Deku of all people."

"Yeah," said the big-nosed boy, "What happened? You thought Deku was annoying as well!"

"Huh?" Izuku blinked as he looked at Katsuki.

Katsuki glanced at Izuku, looking a little surprised that they would even say that out loud, and turned his attention back to the boys. "...Well, I don't! Not anymore! And if you have a problem with him, then you go through me! You got that!?"

The three boys just looked at Katsuki in shock...

"...Come on, guys, let's go," the two-horned boy said to his friends with a frown, turning around and walking off.

"Yeah. We thought you were cool, Katsuki, but you're just a dork who would rather be friends with a Quirkless kid," the winged boy said to him in disappointment, turning around to walk off as well.

"Yeah, you're lame," the big-nosed boy said with a sneer and turned away to walk away.

"NO HE'S NOT!"

The boys turned around in surprise to look at the person speaking...

Katsuki turned to Izuku in question, "Huh?"

"YOU TAKE THAT BACK!" Izuku yelled at them in anger, "KACCHAN IS THE COOLEST GUY I KNOW! THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT ARE LAME ARE YOU THREE! IF KACCHAN THINKS I CAN BE A HERO, AS WELL AS ALL MIGHT, AND MY OWN MOM, THEN I WILL BE! AND IF YOU DISREPECT KACCHAN, TH-THEN I'LL FIGHT YOU ALL!"

The three boys blinked...and glared at him, the one that was winged saying, "So you want to fight us, then, huh?"

"Ha! Now that's a laugh! What can you do?" the two-horned boy said to him with a sneer.

"Yeah!" the big-nosed kid glared at him, "And maybe your Mom just probably couldn't stand to have a Quirkless kid, so she basically wanted to die instead of having someone with no Quir-"

WHAM!

...Izuku punched the big-nosed kid...in the nose!

"AAUGH!" the big-nosed boy hollered out in pain.

"Hey! You bastard!" the two-horned kid exclaimed as he went over to Izuku, rearing a fist at him.

But then-

CRACK-BOOM!

...Katsuki punched the two-horned kid with an explosive hit!

"AUUGH!" he also hollered out in pain.

"YOU WANT TO FIGHT! THEN LET'S FIGHT! ME AND IZUKU WILL TAKE YOU ALL ON!" Katsuki yelled out to them.

"Whoa! Hey, Katsuki, you've gone too far!" the winged boy exclaimed in shock. He turned to Izuku, "This is all your fault, you loser!" he seethed as he reared his fist and prepared to punch him.

But Izuku dodged it and prepared to punch him back, but the winged boy jumped back and used his wings to fly up.

"Haha! You can't reach me up here, loser!" goaded the boy.

But that didn't deter Izuku, as he scooped up some rocks and threw them at the winged kid.

"Huh-ACK! Ow! Hey, stop that! Quit-OW!"

The rocks hit the winged kid's body, on the stomach, on his leg, and on his arm, but one hit him on the forehead. His wings soon gave weight and he landed on the ground with a plop!

One of the kids in the playground area saw what was happening and said, "Hey! Look! Katsuki and Izuku are fighting those guys! Let's watch!"

And then the kids all stopped what they were doing and joined in to watch the fight.

The big-nose kid got up and jumped at Izuku, which he dodged as well. Katsuki was up against Izuku's back as they faced their adversaries.

Katsuki smirked, "Heh! Looks like you got yourself into trouble, Izuku!"

Izuku raised his fists up, "Yeah, well, they were badmouthing you!"

"Heh-heh! That was a cool right hook you got there, Izuku! Let's see if we teach these jerk some manners!"

"Yeah!" Izuku nodded with a smirk of his own.

And then the two boys fought back, helping the other out whenever they needed to be...

...It was quiet in the car ride home...

Mitsuki was at the wheel...Katsuki and Izuku were in the back seats…

...The two boys looked roughed up, had bruises, and maybe a black eye on Katsuki...

...Once she was at a stoplight, she stopped her car.

...It was still silent...

"...Mom, they were making fun of Izuku-"

"Aup!" Mitsuki hushed her son.

"But Auntie Mitsuki, they were making fun of Kacchan, and-"

"You too, Izuku!"

"...Yes, ma'am..." Izuku mumbled as he lowered his head.

Katsuki frowned, crossing his arms in a huff...

...The blonde looked out the car window...

"...Wait...you missed our home," Katsuki muttered.

"Huh?" Izuku blinked at Katsuki and looked out his car window as well, "...Auntie Mitsuki, where are we going?"

"...You'll see." Mitsuki discretely said.

...The two boys were starting to worry...

"..." Izuku turned to Katsuki, "Is...your Mom gonna kill us?"

"...I don't know," Katsuki blinked.

They were still driving...until they stopped at the curb...near an ice cream shop.

The boys looked see the ice cream shop...

"...Mom? What's going on?" Katsuki bravely asked.

Mitsuki turned off her car and turned to her son and Izuku...with a smile on her face. "Just rewarding you kids."

"...Eh?" both boys uttered.

Mitsuki chuckled, "While you two did get yourselves in trouble, you basically looked out for each other. And that's a great quality in a Hero. I'm proud of you boys."

"...Wait, Auntie Mitsuki, we still used violence as a means to get in trouble. Wouldn't that-?"

"Izuku, just take what my Mom is giving us."

"H-Huh? But-"

"Do you want ice cream or not?"

"...Well, yeah, but-"

"Then that's the end of the discussion, we're getting ice cream."

"...Uh, okay..."

Mitsuki laughed, "Oh you boys."
