A/N: I would like to thank those who have waited patiently for this final chapter. Definitely a little more fluffy then some of my other work but it was a much needed fic to write after doing Ash On Fire which honestly was a real dark place for me to be going constantly. Please enjoy and leaves comment or a favorite if you feel so inclined.
Delia slowly approached the last step, right where Misty was sitting with her gaze lifted, eyes brimming with tears. She looked into Delia's eyes, conveying a depth of emotion that words could hardly capture. The reluctance was evident on her face, a silent plea against facing what lay ahead. Delia saw the turmoil within her, understood it without needing an explanation, and in that moment of shared understanding, she reached out. Pulling Misty into a gentle embrace, she offered the comfort of her presence, her hug speaking volumes in the silence; it was her way of saying she was there for her, no matter what they were about to confront together Misty said, "Thank you for being a great grandma to my daughters."
As Coral glimpsed her mother making her way toward her bedroom, her eyes brimming with tears, a heavy sense of foreboding washed over her, leaving her with a sinking feeling that things were simply not going to turn out as hoped. Witnessing the concern etched on Coral's face, Marina reached out instinctively and embraced her twin sister, offering silent comfort through their close bond.
With the dawn of the new day, a gentle rain began to patter against the windows, the gray skies mirroring the somber mood in the household. It was at this moment that their Uncle Brock appeared, wrapping Coral in a warm, reassuring hug and expressing his joy at having the chance to spend time with her, "I am so glad I got to see you," he said earnestly.
"Thanks, Uncle Brock," Coral replied with a soft smile, her heart uplifted by his presence. Just then, Marina came prepared, she unfurled an umbrella and escorted Coral, side by side, through the droplets of rain to the awaiting car. They were poised to embark on their journey back home to Paldea.
Delia, their grandmother, was filled with a heartfelt pride that seemed to shine through her. As Coral approached the car, Delia pulled her in for one final kiss, the love palpable in her embrace. She spoke with admiration, "You are just like your parents and I am so proud of how smart you and your sister are," her words a testament to the deep familial love she held for her granddaughters.
Coral reciprocated the affection with a tight hug and voiced a concern tinged with hope, "Still ok if my aunts and uncle come for Thanksgiving?" she asked, seeking reassurance about the upcoming family gathering.
Without hesitation, Delia's response was warm and inclusive, "Of course," she stated, a smile in her voice as she gently assisted Coral into the car. The reassurance of family unity and the anticipation of future gatherings brought a certain tranquility to the bittersweet departure.
Marina embraced her mother tightly and said, "I'm really looking forward to spending Easter with you and Coral."
Misty's eyes welled up with tears as she kissed the top of her daughter's head and responded, "Easter can't come soon enough."
Ash, observing the tender moment, offered Misty an awkward side hug and said, "Take care of yourself, Mist."
"Thanks, Ash," Misty replied, returning the sentiment with a kiss on Ash's cheek. She then opened her umbrella and walked to the car where Brock was waiting to drive her and Coral to the airport. From the back seat, Coral peered out, waving at her twin sister Marina as the car pulled away.
The journey back to Paldea was unusually silent for Misty and Coral. They spent the flight in their own worlds, barely exchanging words. The anticipation of being met by Tracey at the airport was tinged with a mix of feelings, a sweet yet sorrowful sensation. Tracey didn't say much upon their arrival, but his glance towards Coral was telling; it was evident that he held out hope that Ash and Misty might find a way to mend their fraying ties in a manner that left no questions unanswered.
As they embarked on the drive home, the skies above Paldea seemed to mirror Coral's mood - grey and weepy, with raindrops rhythmically pattering on the car's windows. The downpour served as a stark reminder to Coral of her and Marina's recent endeavors, which, despite their best efforts, hadn't succeeded in bridging the gaps within their family. Nonetheless, Coral clung to a silver lining in her thoughts; she had the privilege of knowing her father, and there was a set date in her diary for when she would reunite with him and her grandmother Delia, something to look forward to amidst the disappointment.
Upon their arrival at home, the atmosphere shifted. The warmth of the Sensational Sisters - Daisy, Violet, and Lily - enveloped them. The siblings' embrace was a comforting contrast to the coolness of the rain they had left outside. Lily, curious and perhaps a little unaware of the delicate situation, was on the brink of inquiring about the outcomes of Misty and Coral's trip. However, before she could voice her curiosity, Daisy, with the wisdom and subtlety of the eldest, caught her attention and gave her a meaningful look. It was a silent but effective communication between the sisters that now was not the time to delve into questions. The unspoken understanding hung in the air, as they all appreciated the moment of togetherness, leaving conversations for later.
The day after Coral and Misty had been out shopping to prepare for Coral's upcoming Pokemon journey, they returned to a strangely silent home in Porto Marinara. "Uncle Tracey!" Coral called out.
Misty casually remarked, "It looks like they've gone out for lunch." She wandered through the lower level of the house until she noticed Daisy absorbed in a fashion magazine. "Hello stranger," Misty greeted her, smiling.
As the magazine lowered, Marina was revealed. "Hey mom, I had no idea you did some modeling back in the day." The magazine displayed a photo shoot featuring Misty in a Goldeen dress.
Misty smiled and replied, "Ah, yes, I did." She was slightly embarrassed by the memory of that particular shoot and surprised to see her other daughter had appeared out of nowhere.
Coral, hearing her twin's voice, hurried over and asked cheerfully, "What are you doing here?"
Standing up, Marina explained, "It only took us about 5 minutes after you left to realize we couldn't bear to lose you two again."
Misty, puzzled, looked at her daughter. "We?"
Ash stepped into the room as Marina smiled, "We."
As Misty rotated her body, her eyes caught a glimpse of Ash. In that moment, the emotions on her face were a clear mix of fear and surprise before she could process what was happening. Ash broke the silence with an admission, his voice conveying determination, "I made the mistake of not chasing after you once, Misty. I won't let that happen again."
Misty, her voice steeped in a mixture of hope and skepticism, sought confirmation, "So you're here now with our daughter, trying to make amends for everything that's happened in the past?" She still couldn't quite accept that he was actually standing there in front of her, after everything.
Ash shook his head, his expression one of deep regret, "No, it's not just about making up for lost time. Ever since that night we spent on the boat, I've been tormented by the thought of not doing exactly what I'm doing at this very moment." With each word, he inched closer, the space between them slowly diminishing.
Misty's heart felt heavy, her voice tinged with a hint of sarcasm as she wrestled with her emotions, "And then what? We just work through our fiery tempers? Figure out how to raise our daughter, sometimes here, sometimes there, and just resume our lives as if nothing happened?" Tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to spill over as she spoke.
In response, Ash offered a future, a vision of them together, "And growing old together," he said, now only a breath away from her.
Misty stood, almost in disbelief, as Ash smiled at Misty with all the earnestness she could muster, "Come on, Ash. Do you expect us to believe in a future where we live that cliché, happily ever after?"
Then, with a gentle movement, Ash brought his hands to her face, compelling her to look into his eyes, "Yes, to all of it, Misty. Every single word."
In a moment of overwhelming emotion and before doubt could take hold, Misty bridged the gap between hesitation and action with a passionate kiss. Ash, taken aback by her intensity, quickly matched her fervor. Nearby, Marina and Coral watched with smiles as they saw their parents locked in an embrace, breaking apart only to share a tender look before coming together once more in a kiss.
Coral, her emotions getting the better of her, grasped Marina's hand and began to lead her out of the room, her other hand waving in front of her face as if to cool down while tears began their descent down her cheeks. Marina, now also overcome with emotion, allowed her own tears to flow freely as she uttered in a voice filled with wonder, "I can't believe we actually managed to bring them back together."
Under the gentle and careful guidance of their beloved twin daughters, Coral and Marina, the couple known to all as Ash and Misty found themselves once again before an altar, standing hand in hand, encircled by the warm faces of their dearest companions and kin. This event marked much more than a simple gathering; it was a powerful statement of a love that had not only endured but thrived, having navigated the turbulent waters of time apart to find safe harbor in each other's arms once more.
The chosen location for this remarkable day was a meticulously cared-for garden situated not far from the bustling streets of Cerulean City, where the soft music of waterfalls provided a serene soundtrack to the occasion. The setting seemed a flawless fusion of Ash's zest for life and the trials of the journey he had undertaken, together with Misty's deep-seated connection to the element of water. Throughout the garden, a myriad of flowers bloomed in a vibrant palette of reds, blues, and yellows, each hue representing the personal growth and experiences that had shaped them both. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, strings of delicate fairy lights began to twinkle on, lending an enchanted glow to the gathering dusk.
The focal point of the garden was a beautifully adorned arch, intertwined with lush ivy and the rich red of roses, standing as a portal under which Ash and Misty would once again pledge their devotion to one another. The audience comprised a heartwarming blend of faces from the past and present, each finding a place on the simple yet elegant wooden chairs that flanked the aisle strewn with soft petals.
Taking the lead in the procession were Coral and Marina, the orchestrators of this beautiful day, dressed in light blue gowns that swayed with their every step, their faces alight with unmistakable happiness. Close on their heels came Misty's sisters, Daisy, Violet, and Lily, all adorned in gowns that not only showcased their individuality but also paid homage to the legacy of their family's gyms. Tracey, now part of the fold through his marriage to Daisy, walked alongside, his suit cut to perfection, his presence a symbol of the family's expanding tapestry.
Ash stood awaiting his bride, his attire a timeless black tuxedo accented with a splash of red at the tie, a nod to the fiery spirit he carried within. At his side, his ever-faithful companion, Pikachu, donned a miniature bow tie, the little Pokemon standing as a testament to the adventures and the enduring friendships that had been the bedrock of Ash and Misty's relationship.
As Misty made her entrance, all eyes turned to behold her. She was the epitome of elegance, her bridal gown flowing around her, adorned with intricate lacework and hints of blue that whispered of her love for the aquatic realm. The water lilies and bluebells that formed her bouquet were not only beautiful but meaningful, each flower a silent tribute to the life she had led and the path that lay ahead.
The exchange of vows was deeply touching, each word infused with the weight of experiences shared and lessons learned. Their promises spoke of a love that was resilient, a commitment that had weathered storms, and a vision of their future painted with hope and mutual understanding.
Following the ceremony, the festivities moved beneath a grand marquee, its interior draped in hues of blue and white, creating an elegant atmosphere that captured the essence of the day. Delia, Ash's mother, stood before the gathered friends and family, her speech a heartfelt narrative of the joy she felt witnessing the bond between her son and Misty reborn. The evening was filled with the sounds of merriment, the air alive with music and the rhythm of dancing feet, and Brock, ever the cherished family friend, raised a toast that was both humorous and tender.
The couple's first dance as newly rewed was a moment steeped in emotion, a dance that spoke volumes of their rekindled passion for one another. As the celebration continued into the night, the sky above was set ablaze with a display of fireworks, each burst of light a dazzling mirror of the spark that had ignited between Ash and Misty in their youth and continued to burn brightly.
This wedding—a reunion of two hearts—was far more than a mere formality. It was a festivity that embraced the voyage they had undertaken, both separately and together, brought to fruition through the loving endeavors of Coral and Marina. It marked not an end but a commencement of a renewed life shared, a life brimming with common aspirations and a profound, mutual comprehension that would guide them through the years to come.
