Chapter 1: The Beginning

Change is never an easy thing. On one hand, the fear of the unknown can consume you until you feel like you're drowning. On the other, the chance to start anew can be what you need to push forward toward your goals.

Moving to Musutafu in the Shizuoka Prefecture could certainly be considered a change for six-year-old Ryu Sanada. His mother Akane Sanada had recently accepted a new position as an ER nurse at Musutafu General Hospital.

Ryu was helping his mother unbox their belongings when his mother turned to him. "Ryu, why don't you go see the playground down the street that we saw. I believe there were children playing there that looked to be around your age."

Ryu looked at his mother with excitement in his eyes. "Are you sure Mom!? Will you be okay on your own with these boxes?" His mother smiled warmly towards him. "He always thinks of me first, how did I get so lucky," she thought to herself.

"I'll be quite alright Ryu, go to the playground and have some fun." She responded with a smile. "Just remember, be careful and if there's any problems return here immediately. Do you understand?" She stated without any room for debate.

Ryu nodded his head, he knew his mother was serious when she wanted to be. "Of course mother, I'll head out and I'll see you soon. I love you." He said as he gave his mother a hug.

Akane wrapped her arms around Ryu and held him for a moment before releasing him. "I love you to my son, now go before I change my mind." She said with a smirk on her face.

Ryu exited their apartment and rushed to make his way through the apartment complex down to the street.

As Ryu approached the playground his mother spoke about, he saw several kids there. What was odd for him was what looked like a standoff between two groups of kids. "Why are you being so mean, you're making him cry Kacchan! If you keep on hurting him, uhh I'll uhh, I'll stop you myself!" the boy with green hair proclaimed. Said boy was taking a defensive stance in front of another boy with brown hair. He was on his knees and grasping his arm and looked to be crying.

"Hmm, you want to pretend to be a hero, you don't stand a chance without a quirk, Deku." The boy with spikey blond hair said while slamming his fist into his palm making a small explosion appear. After making that statement the two boys behind him appeared to activate their quirks. One boy sprouted red wings from his back and started to float off the ground while the other lifted his one hand and his fingers started to grow longer.

The boy now named Deku took a step back and had total fear in his face as the three boys charged at him with their quirks now active. As the three boys started attacking him Ryu watched in shock on what was unfolding in front of him. "I can't just stand by and do nothing, I have to stop this situation before it gets out of hand" he thought to himself. Ryu closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Small flames started forming in both palms of his hands and as he opened his eyes his irises started to glow. "I don't want to hurt any of them, so I have to make sure my fire isn't too strong."

In a quick motion Ryu launches three fireballs at the three boys hurting the green haired kid named Deku. After impacting all three of their backs, they were shocked that someone just attacked them. When they turned around, they saw Ryu standing a few feet away from them with fire emanating from his hands and a serious expression on his face. "I think you three have done enough, leave now and we can forget this ever happened."

The blond-haired boy named Kacchan scowled towards Ryu "Who the hell are you? You think you can land a cheap shot on me and expect to get away from it!?" Without another word Kacchan launched himself towards Ryu with his right fist pulled back ready to deliver a punch to Ryu face. What surprised both Kacchan and everyone else was how Ryu stopped his attack. Raising his left hand, Ryu caught his fist in the palm of his hand. What was unique was that Ryu hand and forearm transformed into a red gauntlet. "I didn't want to do this, but you leave me no choice" Ryu calmy said to Kacchan.

As soon as Ryu finished speaking, he threw Kacchan several feet away from him. Ryu turned towards the other two boys who were both shocked on what just happened. "If you're smart, I would leave now before this continues. Like I said before, we can forget this ever happened."

The two boys quickly nodded their heads and went to pick up the dazed boy off the ground. As the trio left the playground Ryu finally had a chance to look towards the two boys he came to help. The green haired boy was sitting on the ground with wide eyes and his mouth opened in apparent surprise. However, the other boy was gone. He must have run away while everyone was distracted.

As Ryu slowly walked towards the green haired boy, he thought to himself "I better check on him and make sure he wasn't hurt by those guys. I can't believe it happened again. Hopefully mother will understand once I explained the situation to her."

First full-length story. I'm new to storytelling so bear with me as I work through the kinks. Character descriptions of my OC's and quirks will be dived into next chapter. Let me know what you think through constructive criticism.
