Alex Edgbert – One of Harry's best friend and a Gryffindor who is very intelligent and a bookworm.
Harry Potter – An orphan whom Rowling imagined as a "scrawny, black-haired, green eyed and bespectacled boy who didn't know he was a wizard."
Ron Weasley – Harry's best friend who is from an old and ancient wizarding family.
Hermione Granger – Harry and Ron's intelligent, bossy Muggle-born best friend.
Kate Nguyen – Alex's crush and best friend and member of the Golden Couplet.
Neville Longbottom – Harry and Alex's clumsy friend and godbrother.
Rubeus Hagrid – Harry's friendly half-giant friend and the Gamekeeper at Hogwarts.
Albus Dumbledore – The powerful and elderly Headmaster at Hogwarts who has been Headmaster for a long time.
Desiree Deuyour (née Black) – Alex's kind-but-strict mother.
The Dursleys – Harry's unpleasant relatives who hate anything related to magic.
Draco Malfoy – A Slytherin and Alex's first cousin, who bullies Gryffindor and those of Muggle parentage. Alex often tells on Draco to Professor Snape and he often gets told off.
Oliver Wood – The Gryffindor Quidditch captain and Keeper.
Professor Quirrell – A stuttering professor and the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who is working for Voldemort.
Severus Snape – The Head of Slytherin House, Potions professor, and Alex's adopted uncle/godfather, who often favors Alex over other Gryffindors.
Argus Filch – The Squib school caretaker who hates pranks, students, and Hogwarts in general.
Other members of staff include: the dumpy Herbology teacher and Head of Hufflepuff House Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, the tiny and excitable Charms teacher and Head of Ravenclaw House, the soporific History of magic teacher, Professor Binns, a ghost who does not seem to have noticed his own death, and Madam Hooch, the Quidditch coach, who is strict, but a considerate and methodical teacher. The poltergeist Peeves wanders around the castle causing trouble wherever he can.
