Summary: Kanan is way simple compared to Mari. She doesn't need luxurious things nor expensive gifts in her birthday. That's why she loves the dolphin keychain Mari has carved in wood for her (even though it doesn't quite look like one).
Kanan/Mari

Carving my love in wood

The timid sound of the waves lapping the shore is heard in the distance mixing with the gentle and lively chirping of the birds as a certain blue haired girl slowly wakes up.

A lovely giggle soon joins such a sweet melody, and Kanan can't help but smile softly, letting her eyes remain closed for a little longer as she snuggles in the warm embrace of her girlfriend in such a chilly morning, feeling Mari tightening her hold around her to keep her warm while her citrus smell fills her nostrils.

- Wake up, sleepyhead.

Mari whispers tenderly against her temple knowing full well that her lazy girlfriend is already awake, causing Kanan's smile to widen as she yet snuggles more into her warmth.

- 5 mins mooooore.

Kanan whines childishly, eliciting another lovely giggle from her always playful girlfriend, before feeling Mari leaving a kiss on her temple.

- Just because it's your birthday.

The blonde indulges her, and Kanan can't help but smile wider, opening her amethyst eyes slowly to lock them with a pair of green-yellowish eyes, feeling her heart skipping a beat upon the fond smile Mari is giving her while the sun casts its golden rays on her, emphasizing her features beautifully.

- Good morning.

It's everything Kanan can whisper as they share a sweet kiss, Mari's lovely giggles filling the calm silence left by the waves and the birds.

- Shiny morning, my sweet dolphin. Ready to open your birthday gift already?

Mari asks chirpily, and Kanan can't help but chuckle at her excitement, a soft smile drawing on her lips, before she sighs.

- Mari, you know you didn't have to give me anything.

She lets out knowing how even though she told the blonde several times it wasn't necessary to give her anything for her birthday when she has her, as cliché as it sounds, her girlfriend always ends up buying her something: a new diving gear, a motorbike…

- Oh shush silly, of course I have to!

Kanan can only sigh as she slowly sits up, reluctantly untangling herself from the warm embrace of her girlfriend.

Mari quickly bends to take a purple velvet small box in her hands to give it to her girlfriend, surely seeming as another one of her expensive gift awaiting for her.

Slowly, Kanan lifts the lid of the box in her hands to see an aquamarine keychain inside it that looks somehow alike a dolphin.

- What's this? – Kanan asks as she examines the dolphin keychain, watching with amusement the offended expression her girlfriend sports on her face.

- You know what it is!

- Nope, I don't.

- Kanan!

Kanan pesters Mari in revenge for all the times the sly blonde pesters her, hearing her whining her name in return, before she quickly kisses her adorable pout and eyes again the dolphin keychain in her hands, her fingers tracing its delicate and smooth touch, admiring the complex wood carving, even though it could look a bit better.

- Not all of us can wood carving as perfectly as you do, you know?

Mari says quietly as she wraps Kanan in her warm embrace once again, leaving a kiss on her cheek while she admires the touched and fascinated expression on her girlfriend's features. Kanan can only touch the wooden dolphin keychain ever so delicately, tears brimming on her eyes, before she looks at her with nothing but utter love in them.

- Thank you, Mari. I really love it.

Kanan says softly, a couple of tears managing to flow earning a fond smile from Mari, before the blonde wipes them away and cups her girlfriend's cheeks to pull her into a tender kiss.

- Anything for you, my birthday girl. Now, come on, I made you breakfast.

Mari tells her excitedly, hearing Kanan giggle at her girlfriend's excitement and care in such a special date, before she lets her drag her out of the bed towards the kitchen.

- You're really exceeding this time.

- Why of course! Only the best for my shiny dolphin.

Kanan jokes, before Mari retorts playfully, winking at the birthday girl who can only blush in return, a warm feeling running through her body once she sees the painstaking breakfast awaiting for them at the kitchen's table.

Her birthday has barely started and the blonde has already managed to make her feel touched, and especially, utterly loved.
