CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN

Last chapter of And Baby Makes Three?

The egg timer I brought to the bathroom tings letting me know the time's up on the strips. Sitting on the edge of the toilet I can't bring myself to pick up the white strips and find out if my vague suspicions are right.

The room is completely quiet, the faint sound of Doj breathing outside the closed door brings a sigh from my lungs. Getting up I look at the four tests I'd brought in Stockton the previous day and then ignored when I'd gotten home, each strip showing exactly the same thing in a different way. "Well fuck."

Grabbing all four sticks I pull the door open, Doj jumping to his feet "Come on puppy, let's go for a walk so I can think huh."

Picking Abel up from the bouncer in the living room I strap him into his pushchair and grab Doj's lead, opening the door and walking out onto the deck I stop for a second and look down "Can I do this?"

Abel coos something and Doj barks. Shaking my head at the random thoughts I shut my brain off and pull the chair backwards down the stairs.

An hour later I come back through the front door and unclip Doj's lead, he runs off to the kitchen where the sound of him slapping water from his bowl reaches my ears. Taking Abel upstairs with me I turn on the water in the bathtub in the master bath. Once the tub's full I turn on the jets which we discovered Abel loves one day when he and I were in the bath and Jax leant on the buttons.

Abel smiles hugely while I put the details together, talking to myself while stripping both of us from our clothes and climbing into the hot bubbling water.

"September, Taste of Charming I thought I had food poisoning. Then all the stress with Jax and this fucken assault charge that was making me sick. Why didn't I ever put it all together."

Abel and I stay in the bath for a while, the water being splashed around by Abel's hand slapping at the bubbles and his legs kicking. When the water starts to cool too much I stand up, pulling the plug and wrapping a huge fluffy towel around us both. Stopping for clean clothes in Abel's room before going into ours I get him dried and dressed then dress myself. Glancing down at my watch as I put it on I decide I need to talk to Jax about what I've discovered, especially with his trail coming up at the beginning of the following week.

Dressing for comfort completely I pull on a pair of leggings and one of my many t-shirts, this one a pale purple with 'What Color Are My Eyes' stamped across the front. Picking Abel up I jam my feet into a pair of sneakers and head straight for the door, grabbing the keys for the Nitro and my bag as I walk through the kitchen. Pausing for a second to make sure the garage door is closed I reset the alarm on the house and pull out of the drive.

Making a quick stop to see how Cherry's doing with the work load for the day I find Lyla there helping her. Grabbing a couple of the hugely stuffed sandwiches which became the best seller within a week and a plain ham one for Abel I wave as I leave the store again, Abel already chewing on a chocolate chip cookie as a pre-lunch snack. Parking in the lot at TM Gemma's at the side of the car scooping Abel out of his seat before I've managed to turn the car off and pull the key from the ignition.

"What's up baby? Shouldn't you be at the store?"

I shake my head "Nah, Cherry's working for me today, Lyla's upstairs doing stocktake if she needs help. I thought I'd try and spend some time with Jax today if you can spare him for lunch?"

Gemma nods "Sure, he only had a couple of jobs today you should be able to catch him between them. He does have to go with Clay about 3 though."

I nod "That's okay I brought food with me."

Gemma laughs and waves her hand towards the bays "Off you go then, I'll stay here with this one."

Passing her the sandwich for him she gestures towards the bays again "I know it's not easy knowing he's very likely going away soon, so have lunch with him."

Hugging her tightly I bite my lip to not make her the first person I tell, really needing that to be Jax.

Stepping into the darkness of the bays I find Jax and Opie laughing beside the shell of a bike, the '57 Panhead Opie had found rotting in the back of a widows garage when she'd asked for someone to come check out her car. Opie had left after changing the battery in the car and with a truck bed full of bike parts.

Jax looks over when he sees the movement "Hey babe. You a'ight?"

I nod, holding up the bag "I thought I might steal you for lunch."

Jax's eyes flick to Ope who nods with a chuckle "Yeah, we're just killing time here."

Jax lifts the bag from my hand and wraps his arm around my shoulders, pulling me towards the roof access "So what was there a reason for my mid-day visit?"

I wait till we're up on the roof, the cushions spread out on the cold concrete and Jax sitting down with me opposite him "Yeah there was a reason, well a couple actually."

Jax opens his sandwich with a grin "Okay, what?"

"Other than wanting to see my gorgeously sexy Old Man? I didn't send any lunch in with you this morning and I felt guilty about it. I took Doj for a walk and had a bath and was bored." I suck in a huge breath "But I do need to tell you something really important."

Jax swallows his food and sets it down "That sounds ominous."

"It probably is." It's about then Jax notices I haven't touched my food and pushes it towards me. Shaking my head "I can't eat till I tell you and I don't know how to."

"What, Sarah you're actually starting to worry me now." Jax frowns and grabs my hand "Whatever it is, tell me, we'll deal with it."

I bite my lip, squeezing his fingers "I'm pregnant."

Jax's eyes widen then close as he blinks rapidly. "Are you sure?"

I nod "The four tests I did this morning pretty much confirmed the thought that started yesterday. Remember how I was sick for a week and put it down to bad hotdogs at the Taste of Charming. Then nerves and worry with the trial. I don't think it was either. I'll have to go to the doctor and check but if I'm right then I'm at least 3 months along."

Jax is silent for several minutes and I leave him to his thoughts, gnawing on my lip ring.

Eventually he looks up at me and picks up my unopened sandwich "Well babe, you better eat properly if you're eating for two."

I blink "You mean you're okay with it?"

Jax nods grinning "Okay is an understatement. If I could I'd shout it from the rooftops." Looking around he remembers where we are and softly kisses the top of my hand "Can I?"

Leaning forward I press a soft kiss to his lips "Baby if you want to then by all means."

Jax jumps to his feet and pulls me to mine, then to the railing, whistling loudly which makes every person in the lot look up. Gemma sticks her head out of the office "What's the noise about?"

Her voice barely reaches us but Jax grins down at his mother "My Old Lady's pregnant." His voice carries right through the lot and the cheers that start in the garage drown out whatever it is that Gemma's trying to say but the smile that's spread across her face says it all.

Donna's car pulls into the lot, her confused eyes looking up at Jax and I then around the smiling Sons. "What'd I miss?"

I laugh and lean over the railing a little "I blame you D."

"Why?" Donna looks up at me as Jax grabs my hips and pulls me back a step.

"Well, I blame your pregnant hormones for the fact I'm knocked up too."

Donna's mouth drops open "Really?"

Nodding she claps happily and bounces in place for a second "I'll give you my OB's name so you can make an appointment." She calls up to me, then turns to Gemma, the pair of them have a short conversation which ends in Gemma laughing and grinning up at us.

"Sit down and eat your lunch." He says with a smirk "And enjoy your last few minutes of freedom. Hurricane Grandma is about to hit land."

Gemma's voice drifts up from the ground a floor below us "I hope it's not a girl."

Jax's head falls forward into his hands and his entire body shudders "Fuck, it could be?" He looks at me with a desperation in his eyes like I could deny the possibility but I just shrug and bite into my sandwich feeling strangely light even with the shit that's still heading our way.
