WDSU: Local News

It seems like New Orleans has their own vigilante. On Thursday 10 wanted criminals were taken down in the act of crime. The men were ganging up on a young tourist and were interrupted by seemingly two men and a wolf. The police have let us know that a note was left on the scene signed off as Lonbraj Chasè which is Creole and can be loosely translated to Shadow Hunter. Their motives are unknown and where they will show up next is unpredictable.

As Pa François or Ananias François turned on his TV in the morning with a cup of coffee and a biscuit. He was met with news once again reporting on Angel's acts on Thursday. He wasn't particularly happy with the thought of the media and police looking for information about his granddaughter, but seeing as the news and hopefully the police have their information wrong.

As Ma François or Mary François took her freshly baked biscuits out of the oven and watched her husband grab one and turn the TV on. More buzz about Angel's and Daniel's escapade on Thursday. She wasn't thrilled seeing her granddaughter come home with a shank in her stomach and a story that would scar a marine, but at the same time had a sense of pride that she saved that woman.

After shifting around and recording her 5th log Angel finally came out of her room. She had been having trouble "sleeping" as of late. Not really sure you could call it that, she hasn't really felt the need to sleep. No, rather when she tries she's met with memories of her past lives. She hadn't heard their voices in a while really only when she was in a stressful situation or just really confused.

A picturesque Saturday Morning to any outsider looking in, but something heavy hangs over the heads of this small family.

"Good morning, Angel," Ma François said with a smile, handing her a freshly baked biscuit.

"Mornin' Ma" Angel replied, taking a deep breath and biting the biscuit.

"Y'know I don't think I'll ever get used to that," Ma said as she watched the color return to Angel's face again with curiosity and fear.

"Well I think I am and besides how will I ever taste your wonderful food again." Angel has been finding the need to remind herself to breathe whenever she has to go out or enjoy taste and smell.

Angel noticed that Pa was watching the news. They've been running this story ever since Thursday. Apparently, the thousands of violent crimes that happen every day in this city aren't exciting enough.

Pa turned to Angel and gave her a stern look. "You need to be more careful, Angel. The police are looking for you."

Angel sighed, Go figures at least they're way off in their information. "I know, Pa."

"If you and Daniel are gonna do this thing you gotta do it right. Let me see that book of yours."

Of course, the book; as Angel made her way to her room to get it she made sure to wake Daniel up this time.

Angel's room was simple and cluttered, she had one of those beds that were like bunks but instead of another bed, she had a desk piled with papers and a computer a Dell PC to be exact. On the opposite wall, a bookshelf and dresser she also had a closet that really didn't have many clothes so Daniel liked to sleep in there.

Angel walked over to her desk and opened the top drawer, revealing the book that her grandfather had asked for. It was a thick, leather-bound journal with intricate designs etched into the cover. The journal was filled with a bunch of notes from an unknown author, Angel guessed that they were some sort of scholar or historian. Whoever they were was a lot more helpful than her supposably past selves.

"What's that suppose to mean, kid"

"Jack?"

No reply

Typical Unreliable Jack.

"HEY!"

"Jack!"

No reply

Feeling slightly frustrated Angel brings the book to Pa with a sour look on her face.

Pa takes the book from Angel and starts flipping through the pages. "This is good, real good. Whoever wrote this knows their stuff." He looks up at Angel. "But we need to be careful with this. If anyone finds out about this book, we could be in serious trouble."

Angel nods, knowing the importance of keeping the book a secret. "I know, Pa. That's why I keep it hidden away."

Pa hands the book back to Angel. "Keep studying it, Angel. There might be something in there that could help you."

Angel nods again and heads back to her room with the book in hand. She sits down at her desk and starts flipping through the pages. As Angel read through the journal, she couldn't help but wonder about the author. Who were they? What were they researching? And how did they come across such knowledge? The pages were filled with detailed accounts of supernatural beings and their abilities, as well as various rituals and spells that could be used to combat them.

She flipped to a page that caught her eye, a sketch of a mask its a ram's skull with intricate carvings and a symbol in the middle of its forehead. Although Angel wasn't a voodoo practitioner (not on purpose anyway) she could recognize a Legba symbol anywhere.

As Angel studied the sketch, her mind started to wander. She had heard stories of Papa Legba before, the Iwa of the crossroads, the opener of the way. She knew that in Haitian Voodoo, Legba was considered to be the intermediary between the spirits and the living, the one who could open the door to other worlds. He spoke all languages and was the personal messenger of fate.

"Interesting."

"Jack? You sound Female and less Irish."

"No, it's Feng-Hua"

"Sorry, I'm only used to hearing his voice,"

" I'm aware"

"So do you know about this Mask?"

"Not really, sorry."

"It's fine."

"What about that Lady next door."

"Janet!"

Putting on some outing clothes Angel packed everything in her bag. This time she tried to put the book in her inventory with little luck. As she grabbed Daniel's leash and one more biscuit made her way next door.
