A/N: I don't own the characters - they belong to Elizabeth George and the BBC.

They were sitting in a traffic queue through London, with the radio on. They had been in queue for almost thirty minutes, which had coursed an already tired Havers to fall asleep - with her head resting slightly against the window. Lynley looked over at his sleeping sergeant and couldn't help but smile - she looked so peaceful. His smile broadened when he heard the first tones of the song playing on the radio.

'What would I do without your smart mouth

Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down

What's going on in that beautiful mind

I'm on your magical mystery ride

And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright'

Oh yeah, what would he do without her smart mouth? He couldn't think of a time where he wasn't happy she had been brutally honest with him, even when she had said something that should have hurt him. He didn't know why but for some reason when the words came from her, it didn't seem to matter wether or not the words where harsh or kind, because it was her words. Even with everything we've seen in the past seven years we have been partnered, she still haven't lost her trust in the kindness of human - well she wasn't as trusting in the beginning to say the least. But somehow our partnership have soften her, made her just as she always have been but jet changed, if he was honest it had changed them both - they where good for each other. Oh but I do know what hit me and therefor I know I'll be all right - because she is my reason to get up in the morning, I can't remember when and if that had changed because having her by his side makes life easy.

'My head's under water

But I'm breathing fine

You're crazy and I'm out of my mind'

'Cause all of me

Loves all of you

Love your curves and all your edges

All your perfect imperfections

Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning

Even when I lose I'm winning

'Cause I give you all of me

And you give me all of you, oh'

What's not to love, she has her flaws but they make her who she is. She is stubborn, she is prickly, she don't like carrots, she's not good at taking compliments which makes it even harder for me to give them to her but she's perfect in all her imperfections because to me they are not imperfections - it is who she is and I love all of her.

'How many times do I have to tell you

Even when you're crying you're beautiful too

The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood

You're my downfall, you're my muse

My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues

I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you'

I have only seen her cry a few times, when she told me about her brother and her fear about drawing her parents into madness. And when I dragged her out of that pub in Suffolk after the constable had held her at gunpoint. She was beautiful both times the first time because she started to open up and let me in. The second time my heart broke for her, she looked so vulnerable and yet she was and still is the the bravest person I have ever known. I just held her as close to me as I could, she was so beautiful, it was like time stood still as I held her in my arms - I will forever treasure that moment.

'My head's under water

But I'm breathing fine

You're crazy and I'm out of my mind'

Yes she was crazy but I wouldn't have it any other way, and I guess that makes me out of my mind - but who cares.

'Cause all of me

Loves all of you

Love your curves and all your edges

All your perfect imperfections

Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning

Even when I lose I'm winning

'Cause I give you all of me

And you give me all of you, oh'

Truth be told he had never told her how beautiful he thought she was, many wouldn't call her beautiful but they hadn't been looking properly at her. Because if they had they would notice her captivating green eyes, that had a fierce love and carrying in them, her strawberry gold hair framed her delicate features and supported the sparkle in her eyes. If people had looked really close they would have seen her lovely curves, hidden under her too largely worn clothes that nowadays was more shape fitting which have made it hard for me to control himself lately, I know I shouldn't think this way about a subordinate or his friend - my best friend. I have never seen her as a subordinate, I've only used my authority when it has been absolutely necessary, and we had a case to close - to me she have and always will be an equal, titles be damned.

'Give me all of you

Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts

Risking it all, though it's hard'

I wish I could find the words to tell her how I feel, she deserves to know she is loved. If she would let me love her I would never have another care in the world because she is my everything. I need to find a way to make her understand, I know it won't be easy and there will be fights like always with her. If you have her by your side fighting for you like I have had the past seven years then you know you are honoured because I know she will go to the end of the earth for me - and I would do the same for her, always.

'Cause all of me

Loves all of you

Love your curves and all your edges

All your perfect imperfections

Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning

Even when I lose I'm winning

'Cause I give you all of me

And you give me all of you'

She is my beginning I didn't truly live until she walked into my life, I hope she will be mine till the bitter end, which wouldn't be bitter if I had her by my side. In a way I owe Webberly and Hillier for teaming us up in the first place. Boy did we prove them wrong their crime statistics have never been better since I was partnered with Barbara. I know they thought they were giving me the worst possible partner but, in honesty they were introducing me to the most important person in my life - every day with her is like winning the lottery.

'I give you all of me

And you give me all of you, oh'

Oh I wish she would give me all of her, but in a way she already had just by being her - he couldn't and wouldn't ask for more, he was blessed with having her in his life.

A/N: The song "All of me" belongs to John Legend.
