Wow... holy shit. I would like to profusely apologize for how long a new chapter took for this story. So the last time I updated this was Christmas 2021 and now it's February 2024. So looking back, my main issues were that school got in the way, my focus was on other stories. So just in case any of you didn't know, I graduated Spring 2022, but due to a mix up with my credits, I had to take another class Fall 2022. So I'm done with school now and am now looking for a job. Mixed results, I'm not getting into it, but I'm just going to say how fucking stupid everything is right now.
So, besides that, I do have time for writing my stories now, I even published a couple more. For this story... I don't know what happened. I wanted to write this, but I couldn't find the drive or I was just dealing with writers block. But now, I finally got my groove back with this story.
So just to recap, last chapter involved Kara and Clarks clones waking up. The aftermath of Kara and Steve after my side-story for the Duet episode. Meeting, greetings and family feels. But at the end of the chapter, I finally got to Angelica's mutant abilities manifesting at the DEO. And I mentioned I was making a spin off story about Angelica joining the X-Men and going to the school called 'A Firestar is Born'. I am still planning on doing that, but at a later date. I'm hoping to update more of my other stories, and the get to that.
So this chapter is my own version of the episode 'Distant Sun'. It will focus on Supergirl and the others making peace with the Daxamite's. Or will they? You'll just have to wait and see. Also, don't worry, I will mention what happened after Angelica's powers manifested.
Besides that, I have two changes. Angelica's face-claim is no longer Camilla Mendez, it's now Isabella Merced. While for M'gann, her face claim is now Chandler Kinney, instead of Vanessa Morgan.
I also have an Archive of Our Own account as well. My name is the same as FFN. So I'll be cross-posting on both sites as well.
So I hope you all enjoy the chapter.
I own none of the content.
Tony Stark let what he just heard sink in, and he let himself think it over, with his genius brain it didn't take too long. He then rubbed his forehead, due to feeling like a small headache was forming, and wondered if this was some type of dream, after being in the lab for too long.
Pepper, Felicity, Rhodey, and to some extent Jarvis and Bruce have been hounding him about it.
But no, he was awake.
When he had first gotten the call from Kara, asking if she could meet him about something important. He honestly didn't expect what she had just told him.
Honestly, one of the things he thought she would talk to him about was an update on Angelica Jones. Felicity had told him how she found out she was Mutant. Apparently her powers manifested at the DEO, and it was fire related. Thankfully from what M'gann had said, no one was seriously injured. Only a couple of minor burns or heat related injuries. So they had to put a power dampener on her. After that, Caitlin and Bette had soon arrived, after getting a call from Professor Xavier about the power up. And now she was enrolled in the Institute to learn how to control her new powers.
Then again, Fel would've told him, so that line of thought was mute.
"So, just to make sure I'm hearing things correctly. You want to use the tower as some sort of Switzerland? Where you and Romanov's boy toy talk to his mother, and convince her to allow him to stay, and patch things up. After what had happened when he, Romanov and your Aunt first came to her? Am I right?"
Kara, who had come to Tony with the proposition, nodded.
Tony grabbed the other glass of scotch he had on the table and offered it to her. This led him to be impressed when she practically downed it in one go. And she didn't wince or make a face from it.
"Huh, impressive." He said.
Kara grinned and said," My powers prevent me from getting drunk. It's like Steve and the serum."
She wasn't going to mention that drinking alien alcohol got her drunk, because more power for her. This would include anyone not having blackmail or any joking material. Tony one was one of them, and Nat was the second. She could handle Alex, living with her since they were kids and all. Also sister retaliation with powers makes payback oh so better. And that made Alex think twice before she could do or plan anything.
Tony being more of an expert with it came to drinking downed the drink he had in his hand like Kara, and placed the glass back on the table.
"Right, so why come to me? I don't mind people coming for my help. It boosts my ego. But playing diplomat is not something that I can do. If you want me to rile someone up or make them want to hate me, then I can do that." Tony said with smirk.
Kara rolled her eyes, even though she did find Tony's remark amusing.
"Well, like you said, Switzerland. I didn't think the DEO would be a good idea. Even though J'onn is for the idea of talking to Queen Rhea, and making sure no surprises would come up in the future. I would've used the Fortress, but Steve pointed out she wouldn't be thrilled meeting us at a Kryptonian fortress. She would think we were planning on subduing or imprisoning her. Not to mention I'm going to be with them. Also, talking on her ship is also out. And after thinking about it, we came to the conclusion of using the tower."
Tony nodded, he could see her reasoning, and then asked," Right, so… the last time aliens, besides the normal ones who live in the city, and or work for me, were here, they invaded and trashed the city. And did I mention I had to direct a nuke into a wormhole, and nearly died? How are we going to handle that?" He asked, and he looked a fidgety at the mention of what he did to stop the Chitauri Invasion.
Kara could see his point, and knew what Tony was going through. M'gann had told her, after she was told by Felicity, who wanted to talk to someone about her dad's PTSD. M'gann had gone to her, due to knowing Kara being the same boat as well. She remembered the nightmares she had during her first couple of years on Earth, how Krypton exploded, the last time she saw her family, and the slight claustrophobia she felt while stuck in her pod, wondering if she would survive or not.
She was glad she took some therapy sessions from a therapist friend of Aunt Carol's, it helped a lot with her coming to terms with Krypton's destruction. As well as living on a new planet, living with new people and just dealing with the extreme culture shock. Kal was there to help as much as he could, but with being Superman, and his job of being a Reporter. He couldn't be there as often, but he did try. The only issue was that while she had been on Krypton and experienced everything. Kal hadn't, so he couldn't really help, besides taking her on trips to the Fortress from time to time.
"Well… as much as this isn't a good thing, Aunt Carol is still on earth, and Rhea wouldn't take a chance on doing anything with her here. And as much as I love Auntie Carol, she can be a little headstrong at times. Especially when it comes to earth, and her friends and family are involved. And from what Nat told me, Aunt Carol basically threatened to turn the Daxamites into dust with her powers if they try anything. So we don't have to worry about a possible invasion."
She loved her adopted Aunt and all, but like she had told Tony, she was headstrong, had a temper that she managed to dampen a little. She even told them about stories of her helping with solving disputes and other things with different planets. Although at first she was kinda bad at it at first, but she soon got better. Although if anything happened that involved Earth and her family, then she will do anything to protect or save them.
Tony sighed, took another sip of his drink, and said," Fine, I'll let you guys settle it here. As long as they don't park their ship here, or cause any damage. I'm cool with it. I can only imagine the reaction Fury had when you told him this."
"About that… he doesn't know. We didn't want to spook him, Shield and his superiors. President Marsdin doesn't know either. We'll tell them once we get everything under control." Kara sheepishly said.
Although from what J'onn said, before Kara came to Tony, the President had been asking for regular updates regarding the Daxamites. So J'onn had to lie about Kara and others ideas. They didn't want to spook her or anyone else. In case of potential complications if anyone tried to attack the Daxamites. Sure them and Aunt Carol could handle them. But what's not to say once the other scattered Daxamites found out, they would try to attack Earth for them attacking their Queen and her ships. So keeping things quiet and trying to keep things diplomatic was a good idea.
Tony blinked, then chuckled and said," Well its one thing keeping secrets from the Pirate. But to actually keep something like this from the President of the United States is something I hope to achieve. I have full confidence in you guys, but I would love to see Fury's reaction once he finds out about this. And the President reaction as well. Let me know when you guys are going to have the family re-reunion. Bruce and I will be downstairs in the labs."
Kara sighed relieved; feeling like a small weight was lifted off her shoulders, even though the harder part will be talking to Rhea.
"Oh, and I almost forgot. Congrats on the kid, and tell Supes I said the same thing. Normally when you have a kid, their babies and not fully grown teenagers. But what I'm trying to say is… well I know how you both feel. I wasn't even remotely ready, or thought I was qualified when Donna told me she was pregnant with Felicity. But I had her, Rhodey, Happy and then Pepper came along after Donna passed away. It's best to have a support system that would help you through this. And I know the feeling of fear and uncertainty, just ignore it, and prove that you can be the best damn parent possible." Tony said.
Kara blinked, finding what Tony said useful, and lifted her spirits a little. She knew she had people to support her, but she was still worried and scared about Karen, and how to care for her. She found this funny in some sort of way; she had taken on hostile threats as Supergirl, and she was afraid on how to take care of kid.
"Thanks Tony, I needed that. Although I have to admit I'm surprised you had the insight. No offense."
Tony shrugged it off and said," I may not be a serious person, and full of sarcastic quips, but I know when to take things serious."
The last part reminded Kara of something else she needed to talk about.
"About the part taking things seriously. Don't get mad or anything, especially at Felicity. She told M'gann, who then asked me for help. She knows you've been dealing with nightmares and PTSD after New York."
Tony sighed, a little annoyed at his daughter, which wouldn't last long because he loved her to death. And he chastised himself; he should've remembered that Felicity also had a hand in upgrading and improving Jarvis, so she had some type of way to spy on him, and to keep things from him. He would be proud, but due to a talk with Pepper, he realized her keeping things from him probably weren't the best idea. Although he didn't dwell on it too long, due to the mention of what happened during the invasion made him twitch a little.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Look, just let me know when Romanov's boy toy's mother arrives so I can prepare. Okay?" He said and started to walk off.
He didn't get that far, due to Kara appearing in front of him, which indicated she used her super-speed. He was about to say something, but he stopped, due to seeing the look Kara had. It reminded him of the looks Pepper gave him when she was serious, and left no room for an argument. And as far as he knew, he didn't know if she and Pepper had been hanging out or talking. The only time he could recall was after New York. After she and Felicity had finished yelling, hugging and crying at him after they reunited. Unless they did, and he didn't pay attention, like he normally did. He made a note to ask Jarvis later if there was any record of a conversation. And to also pay attention a little more.
"I saw the slight shaking Tony, and got the low-down from M'gann, who got it from Felicity. I know you don't want to talk about it or let anyone one. But, I know what you are going through, and experienced it." Kara said.
Tony was surprised, and said," Really?"
"Yeah… you gotta realize, unlike Kal, who had no memory of Krypton, I was old enough to remember everything. Including when the planet exploded, the last time I saw my parents and wondering if I was going to survive or die in my pod. Not to mention being stuck in the Phantom Zone, the duration inside wasn't long, but still terrifying. So I guess I know what you felt when you went through the wormhole. And then finding yourself on a new planet, not knowing a thing about it. I was just a kid Tony, I was scared, confused, and had slight PTSD. As soon as the Danvers took me in, I received therapy. It actually helped in the grand scheme of things. So please Tony, considering it for me, a friend, and consider it for your daughter."
Tony mulled it over, finding what the Girl of Steel enlightening, as well as hesitant to even consider the option she had said. For the former, he was surprised to learn something that personal about her, it made his injury, captivity, and then what happened in New York insignificant. He could relate about his parents, his last interaction with them wasn't good, so that was something he regretted. A part of them thought about just ignoring what Kara said, and handle his issues on his own. But a different part of him was telling him to listen to her, and take her advice.
"Fine, I'll consider it. And uh… thanks for caring by the way." Tony awkwardly thanked.
Kara smiled, and gave Tony a hug, Tony himself was surprised, and awkwardly patted her back.
Kara lets go and said," Thanks for considering Tony, and also for agreeing with what I had planned out. Despite what a lot of people say, you really are a good person. I'll be heading back to National City to tell everyone. I'll call you when we have a date set up."
"Got it, good luck kid." Tony said.
Tony blinked, and she was gone, he then noticed something in his peripheral vision. He turned to see Kara in her Supergirl outfit hovering outside. She waved and took off.
Tony scratched his head, wondering how his life got to this point.
"Hey Jarvis."
"Looking up reputable therapists now sir." The AI said.
"Thanks J, make sure to add Bruce's name as well."
"Sir, Dr. Banner's credentials doesn't make him a licensed therapist."
"Add his name to the maybe pile then."
"Yes sir. Although I might add using Dr. Banner in that manner might aggravate his condition if not handled properly."
Tony grabbed the bottle of scotch and poured himself another drink. "He'll be fine, my science bro said he can control the Green Giant, then I trust him."
"Very well sir. Will that be all?"
"Yeah J, that's it."
Tony then took a sip of his drink, and he looked to be thinking of something.
"Huh, the others were right; she is nothing but sunshine and rainbows." He mused aloud about Kara.
A day later, Kara stood with Mon-El and Natasha in Tony's living room. Mon-El had already sent a message to his mother, wanting to talk and where to go. And luckily, she had responded right away, agreeing to it.
This was a good thing, due to the day Kara had asked Tony to use his tower for the meeting, J'onn had received a video call from President Marsdin, asking about how the Daxamites were still hovering the behind the moon, and if nothing changed, then she and the other governments of the world would do something about it.
While J'onn took care of that, she and the others were dealing with their current issue.
A bright light came into the room, and Rhea materialized in Tony's living room. When she fully materialized, the smile she had when she laid eyes on her son, turned in a frown, which was slowly growing to anger. Due to seeing Kara, and noticing the House of El Crest on her chest.
Before she could do anything, Mon-El rushed to her, and hugged her. Mon-El then let's go and gave her an apologetic look.
"Mom I-"
Rhea gave Mon-El a look, which meant she wanted to speak, and he let her.
"Mon-El, what you told me, and the actions that… less than favorable person said hurt me. I just got you back, and wanted you come home with me. But you insisted on staying here, all because you were manipulated by the people who caused us to leave Daxam and scatter. And that hurt me, I already lost your father and I didn't want and still don't want to lose you again."
Mon-El nodded, and said," I understand and I'm sorry for what happened last time. And I promise you, no one is manipulating me. And I'm sorry for not being able to explain things better, but we have a second chance now." He then prepared himself for what was to happen next. "Mother, I would like you to meet a friend of mine. Meet Kara Zor-El."
Kara took a couple of steps, gave Rhea a small smile, and said," Hello your Highness. It's an honor to meet you. Yes, the symbol on my chest means I am from the House of El. My name is Kara Zor-El."
Rhea gave her a not so friendly look and said," So I would make a guess in saying your mother was Alura Zor-El. I must say, I never met your mother. But I do recall a few of my people being prosecuted by her. And then unfairly imprisoned." She then looked at Mon El. "Mon-El, you better have a damn good reason why a Kryptonian is here."
Kara briefly wondered if it was a better idea to have Kal here instead or with her. Sure he was on standby, he had used a day off and he has been doing stuff like this a lot longer than her. But she wanted to handle this on her own.
"I am here to extend an olive branch. That's a term used on this planet, which means 'to make peace'. I know you have every right to ignore or refuse to hear us, mainly me out. But please do it for Mon-El's sake. I know the past cannot be mended. In regards to the relationship of both our planets, and what was said when Mon-El, Natasha and Captain Marvel first spoke to you. Especially with the latter, mainly with the Captain. So, may we please start over and talk things out? If that's okay with you." Kara said.
Rhea was quiet for a moment, but then said," Very well, although my feelings towards you won't change. But I will listen to what you have to say. For my son's sake. So speak."
'So far so good.' Kara internally said in relief and then looked at Mon-El.
"Right, mom, I know things were said when we last met. And I'm sorry. I'm truly am. It's just, I thought you were gone. I thought that I was the only surviving Daxamite after finding out about Daxam's destruction. So I had to move on and start a new life. And I did, although with mixed results."
Kara was torn with either snorting in amusement, or giving Mon-El a 'really' look. Cause she vividly remembered Mon-El's struggles with living on Earth at first. And how much it aggravated her from time-to-time. But it turned out good at the end… well there were slight hiccups.
She wondered if that was how Alex and the Danvers felt at first. When she had first arrived and was acclimating to Earth.
"And some of it turned out good." Mon-El said and glanced at Natasha with a smile.
Natasha grinned a little at Mon-El and Kara had to hold in a squeal. And to also stop herself from giving Nat a teasing look.
Mon-El continued," And when Captain Marvel arrived and said you were looking for me. I was happy, and overjoyed. But when you said you were taking me back to Daxam. And to hopefully rebuild and continue where things left off… I think we were moving too fast. And I didn't have the time to process it all. I should've explained things more carefully. So, even though I want to stay here on Earth, but I know I have a duty in regards to our people. Although, I feel I need to get experience and prove myself before returning. And the people and heroes of this world will help me."
Natasha then decided to speak and said," Your Highness, your son is showing maturity about all of this. The type a future ruler would. He isn't been manipulated or controlled like you thought. You have my word. You did say, 'I was an interesting woman. One that had potential good qualities.' And you also said that Mon-El picked a good woman by his side."
Kara didn't know that part, and she was so going to badger Nat about it later.
"Yeah, I mean wouldn't dad be proud of the man I've become? I know we lost a lot, including him. But we can't let his death be in vain. He would want us to reconcile, start over and try for a better tomorrow. So what do you say?" Mon-El said.
Even though she didn't show it, Natasha could see the gears turning in Rhea's head. Natasha was one of the best Assassin's/Agent's in the world. She could see and tell about a person by their facial expression. But she wasn't perfect, so she had to work harder to gather what was going on with Rhea. She had seen a bit of Rhea's personality the first time they met. It marked all of her boxes in regards to rulers or anyone in a position of power. But for all she knew, she could be wrong.
And also, Natasha had to admit that Mon-El was doing a good job so far. She remembered he was nervous beforehand. But thanks to pep talks from her and the others, he got his confidence to face his mother again.
After what seemed like forever, Rhea's face then morphed to a proud look and said," You and Mon-El are right, Miss Romanov. Mon-El, your father would be proud of the man you become. I honestly wish he was here with us to see this. Maybe he could've talked some sense into me when we first reunited. I am sorry, for what I said last time. I was just angry and confused. Although I can't forgive your Kryptonian associates just yet, especially with what happened to Daxam. But I can take steps with doing so."
Mon-El and his mother hugged, while both Kara and Natasha looked relieved.
Kara leaned over to Natasha and whispered," Looks like it's working."
Natasha smirked and whispered back," Hey, you're the optimist. I'm cynical. We need all the optimism we can get."
Rhea then let's go of Mon-El and approached Kara and said," Even though my feelings towards you and your people will take time to change. I would like to thank you for taking care of my son."
Even though she was being polite, Kara could see the distain in Rhea's eyes. Kara didn't take that personally, due to knowing these types of things took time. But at least from the looks of things, Rhea seemed to be trying.
"Your welcome your Highness. Now, can we talk about more important matters?"
Kara sat down on the nearby couch, feeling both exhausted and relieved. She then noticed something, and saw that Natasha was holding a glass of liquor.
"Hey, Stark said we have rooms for whenever we want to crash here. And what nice host wouldn't allow us to have some of his stuff? Including alcohol?"
Mon-El drunk his drink like a shot and said," Take it from the guy who's lived like this. Well, pretty sure I was richer than the rulers of this world, and however how much Tony makes. But yeah, a well deserved drink is always a good idea."
Kara grinned as she got the glass and drank the glass. Natasha merely took a long sip.
The rest of the talks with Rhea went by smoothly. After clearing the air and them, mainly Mon-El convincing her. They worked on a good understanding. Mon-El would get to stay on Earth, there wasn't going to be a potential threat from the Daxamites. And Mon-El and Rhea repaired their relationship. Besides that, Mon-El would visit his mother, thanks to Kara providing the Jump coordinates from Earth, to wherever the Daxamites were. So space travel went from potentially months to a matter of hours. Kara had also suggested to Rhea about finding a new secondary planet for the Daxamites. And Aunt Carol could help, but Rhea had declined. Kara had a feeling Rhea was still on edged with Aunt Carol. Even though she was considered a hero to some in space, others saw her as a force of nature and should feared. The Kree were in the latter camp.
"Man, I'll be honest. I was worried. But good to know I have a bit of diplomacy in me. My parents would be proud." Kara said.
"Yeah, I would like to thank you guys again. I thought everything was crashing down. But now, everything isn't." Mon-El gratefully said.
Natasha sat down next to Mon-El and said," Hey we're your friends. Well I'm... someone who is close to you. Of course we would help. Although I hate to diminish the mood. But, here's hoping this is all going to work out."
Kara playfully raised a brow and said," I thought you were the cynical type?"
Natasha shrugged and said," I can be positive when I want to be. It doesn't help that I know you though. Miss sunshine."
Kara gave her and Mon-El, the latter was chuckling, a mock scowl.
Rhea walked through the hallway of her ship, even though she couldn't feel it, the ship was leaving Earth or Terra's upper atmosphere. And was now leaving to go to a specific location, along with the others ships. It took every once of her self restraint not to have her ships fire down on the miserable planet. Or better yet, call the fleet and do the same thing, but also invade it. But she wasn't stupid to do that, especially with The Annihilator down on that planet. During her time in space, she had heard about her, both from beings who were saved by her, or from others with warnings not to cross her. The Kree were the latter, considering the fact she had destroyed the Supreme Intelligence after attacking Hala. And left the Kree Empire fractured for a time. Last Rhea knew they were in a middle of dispute with the Nova Empire, which would probably morph into a war in the future. So it was in their best interest not to attack, possibly when she's far enough way, and when the Daxamites had a better handle on their new found powers. Apparently this systems yellow sun was to blame. Not that Rhea was complaining, it would make things easier in the future.
Especially in regards to getting her son back. She had honestly hoped he had come to his senses when he had contacted her. But no, even though he did show maturity by apologizing and expressing his desire to rule Daxam. Albeit it was influenced by his new comrades. It broke her heart further and it angered her to no end. This time, besides Agent Romanov or Natasha, who Rhea could tell was a skilled warrior and undeniably beautiful when she had first met her. And Rhea would admit she seemed like a good fit for her son. Although she seemed a bit closed off, and Rhea had a feeling she could be untrustworthy. Which made Rhea think she had a hand in turning her son into who he was now. Besides the Kryptonian, or Kara Zor-El, who Rhea knew still held the same arrogant and self-righteous traits she knew her mother was known for. Thinking she was so high and mighty. She regretted not bringing the Kryptonite she had on the ship. To show her who was in charge. But that would complicate things.
Now, she was going to bide her time, gather the scattered Daxamites, so an invasion fleet would be at the ready for what she had started to plan. She already had her top officers at work as well. But there was one more thing she needed to do. Memories of meeting a being that was feared across the known universe, after accidently running into him, while she was heading to find Mon-El. She shuttered at the thought, including when he had surprisingly asked her to look for something for him if possible. He had only said it was something of power, and Rhea made private note that she would use it for herself if she found it. But he was fine with her decision when she had declined, but said he would wait for another response in the future. As if he knew what was going to happen if she found Mon-El. And now, she was going to talk to him again. She didn't like it one bit, but she was desperate, not that she would ever say it.
She walked into her own personal communications room. She typed a couple of commands, and waited for a response.
The projector turned on once the other end received her summons. A hooded figure answered.
"Speak." He said in gravely voice.
"Tell your Master... that I will help him. And I also require his help with an issue I have."
And there you have it. Again I'm sorry for the long wait. Please tell me how I did.
The next chapter I might do the next episode, or I might go to the reactions our heroes talking to the Daxamites without the others knowing.
I'll also have this chapter up on AO3 later.
Till next time.
