It was the Easter holidays and James, Albus and Lily had joined their parents, Aunt Hermione, Uncle Ron, Rose and Hugo at the Burrow to visit their grandparents. The adults were all sitting around in the living room talking and being boring so the kids had all gone outside to play. Hugo and Lily were playing Gobstones while James was showing off, taunting Albus about all the spells he could do that James couldn't.
"Shut up James!" Albus shouted at James. "Of course, you can do more spells than me. You're older than I am."
"Wouldn't matter if it was the other way around," James laughed. "Even if you were the elder one, I would still be able to do more spells than a stupid Slytherin like you."
"That's not very nice James," Rose admonished, as she continued. "Mummy says it doesn't matter what house you are in."
"That's just something the grown-ups say to try and pretend they don't mind about having a Slytherin in the family."
"Shut up James!" Albus shouted at his brother again. "Dad says it doesn't matter either. The Sorting Hat wanted to put dad in Slytherin when he was at school, you know."
"Didn't though, did it? So, what's that say about you?"
"You'd better not let dad hear you talking like that, James," Lily said, coming over. "You'll be in so much trouble."
"I'm not scared of what dad might say," James said, sounding a lot braver than he felt.
"Yes, you are," Lily said, seeing right through her brother's bravado.
"Why can't you just be nice, James?" Rose asked. "We were all having a nice time until you had to go and spoil it. Come on Albus. Let's go over there and we can practise together. It never does any harm to practise some more. After all, it won't be long until our end of year exams," Rose added haughtily, sounding very much like her mother.
Rose and Albus moved away from James and the others to go and practise their charm-work. James stuck his tongue out at them both as they went.
"Stupid James," Albus grumbled as he and Rose practised together. "He thinks he's so clever."
"Just ignore him Albus," Rose told him. "He's just showing off because he thinks it makes him look cool."
Molly Weasley came into the living room from the kitchen.
"Right, everyone, lunch is ready. Where are the children?" Molly Weasley asked brightly.
"They went outside to play, mum," Ginny replied.
"We'll go and fetch them, Molly," Harry said, as he and Ron made their way past her to the kitchen.
"I hope they haven't wandered off to go and play Quidditch in the paddock," Ron said to Harry. "I'm starving."
Harry rolled his eyes as he and Ron entered the garden.
"Right, come on kids," Harry called. "Lunch is ready and if you don't get a move on Uncle Ron won't leave you anything."
"Hey," Ron protested as his stomach growled loudly, watching James, Lily and Hugo trot into the kitchen for lunch.
"You too, Rose, Albus," Harry said, as he and Ron neared Rose and Albus.
"Alarte ascendare," Albus said, aiming his wand too far to the left of Rose. A flash of light burst from his wand and hit Harry square in the chest and Harry found himself launched into the air. He barely had time to whip out his wand and slow his descent to prevent himself crashing back to the ground.
"Well, that was unexpected," Ron quipped, as Harry landed softly but somewhat clumsily on the ground. "You alright, Harry?"
Harry burst out laughing as Albus apologised profusely to his dad.
"I'm so sorry dad."
"I'm fine, Ron. That's alright, Albus. Practice makes perfect after all. You're getting better, even if your aim was a little off."
Albus blushed at his father's praise.
"Come on you three," Ron said. "Everyone else is already inside. There'll be nothing left if we don't hurry up."
The five of them headed towards the back door of the Burrow.
"Sirius would've loved that," Harry said grinning at Ron.
"It's certainly made my day," Ron grinned back at him.
