Heart of Love Chap 4
Five days, it had been five days since Wesker started making his unreasonable demands. Bec stares out the window, she was wearing a purple ballgown that had layers of the same color with jewelry and accessories. Bec has a good clothes and costume collection, sometimes she will dress up herself to give the little princess inside of her some inspiration. 'However that's not why I'm wearing this,' Bec is wearing it because Wesker ordered her to. On the third day of making his demands, he wanted her entire warobe. Shocked she had tried to dissuade him, but he would not be moved, thus in order to wear clothes Wesker had to pick them out and by that he had to pick out...everything. Bec has never felt so embarrassed and humiliated, being dressed up like a doll and catering to his every whim, like she was his slave. 'I have no regrets' Bec thinks on way she is doing this, Chris is safe from him.
She walks downstairs to the kitchen, 'At least he can't tell me what to eat' Bec thinks with a smile. On the second day he wanted all her food, drinks and any nourishment that comes into the house. To eat he had to tell her what to make and of course he joined her. As to why he can't tell her what to eat today he told her last night that he had business for the next two days that needed to be taken care of. Till then she was allowed to fed herself whatever she wanted but he had outfits picked out for the next two days, he warned her that he would know if she didn't wear them. He also reminded her that she was not allowed to read the fiction books in the library, only books that would give her brain knowledge. 'Even when he's not here his presence is strong' Bec realizes bitterly, then the doorbell rings.
Bec is startled. 'It can't be Wesker, he never had the need to use the front door' are her thoughts as she goes to the front door, she opens it and to her surprise and delight it was Chris. "Hi Bec, long time no see," Chris greets her and she hugs him surprising him. "Welcome back Chris," she said after releasing him, she was so happy to see another person that wasn't Wesker. Her grandmother won't be here until tomorrow.
A loud sound comes from the kitchen, "Ah! The water I made for tea!" Bec said, running as fast as she could in four inch heels. She arrives back at the kitchen to remove the kettle from the stove before the noise became unbearable. Chris had followed her and takes note of her attire, "All dressed up and nowhere to go?" he jokingly asks. "You can say that," Bec replies, she was determined not to let Chris find out what is happening with Wesker.
Bec then makes some Darjeeling tea, a black tea. After grabbing some snacks to go with it she and Chris sit down in the dining room, "How have you been? Are your injuries healed?" she asks. "Yeah, I fully healed about three days ago," Chris answers her as he eats. "Any luck in finding Wesker?" she asks. "No, his trail is cold," Chris says sounding upset. Bec wanted more than anything to tell Chris that Wesker's been here but Wesker said he had ways of finding out things. They finish their snack and the door bell rings again surprising them both.
Bec approaches the door nervously, she doesn't believe its Wesker, but she can't think of anyone else coming today. Wesker said two days but his word might not mean anything. She opens the door and the person outside the door is her grandmother, "Grandma!" she shouts hugging her. "Hello dear I was able to wrap up business in Moscow yesterday, so I thought I come and surprise you," Jaqueline said. Her driver brings her bags in and tips his hat before leaving. "Let me help you take your bags," Chris said grabbing them and remembers where Jaqueline's room is, goes up the stairs. "Thank you young man," she said as they follow Chris to Jaqueline's room. "By the way dear why are you wearing a dress? Are you going to a party?" her grandmother asks her. "No, I just felt like dressing up," Bec said lying.
They reach Jaqueline's room and Chris puts down her bags. "I'll go and get dinner started," Bec said, she was excited that Chris and her grandmother had come to visit, so she a nice dinner plan. "Go on ahead Rebecca, Me and Chris will stay out of the way," she tells her and Bec leaves to change into a simple dress that Wesker had picked out for her to do her chores with. After Bec leaves Chris officially introduces himself, "We talked on the phone before, my name is Chris Redfield".
"I had a feeling that is was who you are, I'm Jaqueline Venganza," she introduces herself.
"Tell me Chris...has Rebecca been acting strange?" Jaqueline asks him. "Bec? Strange?" Chris asks. 'Now that I think about it...Bec addressed Wesker in a familiar tone,' Chris realizes. 'That doesn't make sense, why would she...no, there's no way,' Chris didn't want to believe that Wesker could have been in this mansion. 'Not to mention Bec would've called,' Chris tries to reassure himself, but something was telling him that there was more going on then he thinks. Chris stays silent, not knowing what to say, this tells Jaqueline that something is wrong, "I'll talk to her tonight," she said.
"Would you like to play a game of chess?" she asks him. "I-I never played," Chris tells her, he never had concentration for board games. "I'll show you how to play, gives us time because Rebecca is making us dinner and it will take a couple of hours until she's done". They go to the game room, and Jaqueline sets up the game while telling Chris the names of the pieces. The game starts, "How do you find my granddaughter?" she asks moving a piece. "I think she is a wonderful young lady," Chris answers moving a piece. "Yes...but how about on a more personal level?" she asked moving another piece. "What do you mean?" Chris questions as he moves another piece. "Do you see a future with her?" she questions back, moves a piece. Chris hesitates moving his piece, "I think that she'll make a great wife for someone, someday." he replies making his move. "Do you see yourself as her husband?" she asks. Chris realizes that Jaqueline didn't want to play a game with him, she wanted to talk to him alone. "...I think there's someone else out there for the role, someone who's better," he answers as several moves have taken place. "Oh? Comparing yourself with others will never take you far. How can you say your not worthy?" she asks.
"Your age difference? Young people and older people have been marrying each other since as long as anyone can remember. Your line of work? There are many soldiers who have lives outside of duty, for their families are the reason they fight. While the life you lead is dangerous, you should jump at any chance that'll give you happiness and take heed of problems. Or is it because you have no wealth? It is no longer the age where social status matters. Though I can tell you right I didn't marry my Harold because he had a bigger purse then I did, we were in love. My son asked his wife to marry him because he loved her and she loved him, she didn't have a fortune to her name. I can see you are a man who is righteous and noble, you would make a fine husband for my granddaughter," Jaqueline tells him.
Chris could not believe that she saw through every reason as to why he shouldn't be with Bec. Not only that she actually approves of him being together with her. "I don't know what to say," Chris doesn't understand what Jaqueline sees in him. "My Rebecca talks about you after you left, I know she has feelings for you," Jaqueline said as the game continues. Chris moves a piece, "I can tell your fond of her as well. You should tell her how you feel," she said and Chris is in check. "Sometimes today is all you have," she continues saying and the game is checkmate. Then the cordless phone rings, Chris gets it, "Hi, sorry to interrupt your game but dinner is about to be served," Bec said. "Ok Bec we will be down," Chris said and hangs up. He and Jaqueline put away the game and go downstairs to the dining room.
Bec has putted out the food when they come in, today she made: Ham with Pineapple Sauce, Creamy Spinach Bake, Crescent Dinner Rolls, and Upside-Down Strawberry Shortcake. "Ah. I have missed your cooking dear," Jaqueline says with a smile. They sit and began to eat, "By the way Chris how long can you stay?" Bec asked him. "I can stay for a week," he answers. 'I see, I'll need to be careful, so Chris doesn't find out about Wesker and our deal. But will Wesker keep his part?' Bec wonders. "I see you have time then, why not enjoy our estate for your vacation. Everything here you can have access to," Jaqueline said. "If its alright with you both," Chris didn't mind staying here. "Yes that's fine with me." Bec said.
Later after the dishes were done, Bec and her grandmother go for a walk in the garden. "Your flowers are closing up for the day grannie," Bec said, watching the flowers close signaling the end of day. "Yes they are...tell me dear have you been lonely since Chris left the other day?" Jaqueline asks. "No grandma. Its ok you have to take care of business and my friends have careers of there own," Bec said trying to smile but difficult since she hadn't been alone for four days. Jaqueline however takes notice of her face, "Are you sure there's nothing you want to tell me?" Jaqueline asked, hoping that Bec will tell her what's bothering her. "Oh! I almost forgot!" Bec reaches into a bag she brought with them and pulls out a finished music box. "I made this for you. It has your favorite song 'Requiem' by Wolfgang Mozart," Bec said handing over the music box. "Thank you dear, I'll play it later," she answers but she is sad. 'Why is Rebecca not telling me anything? I have taken care of her most of her life. I thought there would be no secrets between us. ...I can't push or we may have an argument,' Jaqueline was not happy Bec won't confide in her but decides not to pry.
"Well I'm going to turn in for the night. Get some rest dear," Jaqueline says before going back into the house. As she walks upstairs she runs into Chris, "Hey Mrs. Venganza...Everything all right?" Chris asked upon seeing her expression. "No, Rebecca is not coming forward as to why she's behaving the way she is," Jaqueline says with a frown. Chris could see that she was sad, "How about I talk to her?" he didn't like the fact Bec was hiding something. "Would you please? I am at a loss as to how to get her to open up without us having a fight," Jaqueline hopes that they'll tell each other their feelings as well. "Good night Chris," she said going to her room. "Rest well Mrs. Venganza," Chris said before looking out the window to see Bec coming in.
Line Break
The next day the three of them had a fun filled day, having meals together, playing board and video games, watching movies and anything the house had to offer, expect the library. Eventually the sun sets and Bec is by herself in the music room playing her harp, she is wearing a red off the shoulder mermaid dress, with matching jewelry and accessories. Both her grandma and Chris were surprised that she was dressed up again, but thankfully did not ask her about it. 'I wish I was wearing this of my own violation,' Bec sadly thinks.
She finds little comfort in her music, for on the fourth day of his demands, Wesker wanted her music room. Meaning she can't play without his permission. She tried to protest, but he again threated Chris if she back off the deal but was told to keep up on it while he was away. No to mentioned he is coming tomorrow, 'I hope Wesker doesn't reveal himself'. Though she is wondering about his next demand, it couldn't be the family fortune, her grandmother was in charge of that still. 'I know he doesn't really need anything I can give him. He'll just keep on making demands until I have nothing left to give,' Bec thinks bitterly. But then what? What will happen to Chris? Bec really doesn't like the situation.
The door opens and Chris comes in, "Hey Bec I think its time to return the book I borrowed," he said holding 'The Nutcracker' in his arm. Bec smiles sadly, 'I can't take it back now that book is the only book that Wesker hasn't laid claim to'. "It's all right Chris, you can give it back later," Bec said not wanting everything to be taken by Wesker. "Ok," he puts the book down, "I noticed that your not in tune today," Chris said. Bec is surprised, "I thought I tuned the harp just fine," she tells him, but Chris frowns. "I didn't mean the harp, I meant the person whos playing it," Chris said staring at her. Bec tries not to flinch at his words, she did not think she was that bad off. "I played guitar, I know when someone is not performing well. That usually means that they're distracted by something," Chris said, he was determined to find out what Bec was hiding.
"It's nothing Chris," Bec tries to reassure him that there is nothing wrong, but Chris wasn't buying it. "Bec I've only known you for a week but I can tell your not telling the truth," Chris said bluntly. "Chris please don't ask this of me, I can't tell you," Bec pleads with him. "Can't or won't?" he asks. Bec silence tells him that she won't, this makes him come at a loss; he didn't want to fight with her but he didn't want to back down. He then remembers the conversation he has yesterday with Jaqueline, "Bec..." Chris starts remembering what Jaqueline said today is all you have. "I have something to tell..." he continues but Bec's cell goes off. She checks it and she seems to freeze as she reads the text, "Chris I've decided to turn in early. Have a good night," Bec says trying to leave, but Chris grasps her wrist. "Bec wait its important..." Chris tries to say but she shakes him off. "Chris please I need to go," Bec said leaving the room in a hurry, leaving him alone. Chris thinks about her actions, and decides to follow her.
Bec goes straight to her room, she had received a text from an unknown number. It said 'I'm in your room' and there is only one person that would say that. Bec opens her door, shuts it and sure enough, Wesker was leaning on the balcony door. "I see you came, wise of you," he said. "What is it you want?" Bec wanted to get it over what his demand was going to be today. "I have a different idea in mind, though I see Chris is here," Bec froze at his words. "Wesker, I have honored our deal. I give whatever you want and in exchange you leave Chris alone," Bec said. "Yes you have but Chris is now within my reach. I can now finish him off," Wesker said getting off the balcony door and starts to go over to her door. "Wesker stop!" Bec puts herself in front of his path.
"I still have much more that you can have. Please I'll do anything just spare him," Bec was on the verge of tears. Wesker stays silent for a moment, "Then I want one thing from you, I want your hand," he said bringing tense silence to the room. "W-What?!" Bec shouts, 'H-He can't be serious!'. "You heard me, I want you to marry me," Wesker said with a smirk. "Why?! I don't love you!" Bec continues to shout at him. "Love has nothing to do with why I want to marry you," Wesker said. "I find that you are the most interesting woman that I have ever come across. You are smart, beautiful, talented, and determind all in one package," Wesker said reaching to touch her face, causing her to flinch. "As a bonus for saying yes I'll only have Chris killed if he is directly in my path," Wesker said still smirking, he knew he had her.
"...I accept your proposal," Bec said looking down at what she agreed to.
"Good, I'll pick you up tomorrow night. I suggest trying to tell your grandmother that you won't see her for sometime," Wesker said, removing his hand from her face and brings her close to him. Bec trembles in his embrace, "You'll have my name once the ceremony is over I recommend that you call me by my first name." Wesker brings her face to his and they kiss, a loveless one. Bec feels nothing from him, unlike she did with Chris.
The kiss ends, "I will allow you to do whatever you want tomorrow before I arrive and I expect you to show me your parents room before we leave here," Wesker says, he had not forgotten that was the only room she never showed him. He lets go of her, "Remember you are the bride of Albert Wesker. Be the most beautiful bride tomorrow." he said before going to the balcony and disappearing into the night.
Bec drops to her knees, puts her head in her hands and sobs. 'Oh Chris...What have I done?' Bec could not believe that she was to be Wesker's wife. 'More like a toy' Bec thinks bitterly, Wesker may have said wife but Bec knew that Wesker was using her for his own amusement. Then her door is thrown open.
Bec jumps up, turns around and sees Chris in the threshold. He was mad, 'Oh no! Chris knows!' Bec knew there was no other way to explain. Chris comes up to her and grabs her by the arms, "It what I heard true? You made a deal with Wesker to keep me safe?" he asks, Bec doesn't say anything but her silence speaks. Chris let go of her arms and brings her into a hug, "Bec why did you do such a thing? Why didn't you call?" Chris questions her. He could not believe that Wesker would sink so low as to harass this beautiful girl.
Bec cries into his chest, "I grew quite fond of you while you were her and couldn't bear the thought of him killing you or those who are innocent just to do it. He threated to ahead and kill you, if I told anyone," she said in between sobs. Chris calms her down and they sit on her bed, "Bec tell me the original deal you made with him," Chris gently asks. Bec told him about Wesker coming to see her the day after he left, the deal that was made, and his unreasonable demands. "Now the deal has been altered to this. Please Chris promise me you'll never cross paths with him again," Bec tries to get Chris to agree but...
"Bec it will be a cold day in hell before I let you marry that son of a bitch, and I won't stay out of situations that has his name plastered over them," Chris says. Bec opens her mouth to protest but Chris's next words takes her by surprise. "I love you Rebecca Venganza," Chris said bringing his hands to her face. "I won't let Wesker get away with what he's done, to the world or you," Chris said bringing her to his face. He hesitates in placing his lips on her but Bec closes the gap and kisses him. They let out all their feelings in that heated moment. Bec breaks the kiss, "I love you too Christopher Redfield," she tells him, she has realized her feelings for him before he showed up yesterday.
"But are you sure you want me? I don't have a career of my own and...," Bec starts to protest as to why they can't be together, but Chris stops her by placing a kiss on her cheek. "Its fine that you don't have one yet, that is not why I fell in love with you. I love you because of who you are," Chris says then they kiss again.
As they separate Bec asks, "What can we do about Wesker? He won't let this go," Bec now fears he'll kill Chris out of spite then take her somewhere where she'll never see light again. "Don't worry Bec, I finish off Wesker this time and then..." Chris stops for a moment before gathering his courage to continue, "Bec will you marry me?" Chris finishes his thought. Bec stares at him in shock before a smile comes across her face, "Yes I will marry you Chris," she says happily. Chris breaks out his own smile and sings with Bec joining in part:
Under the rainbow, over the sea
Come, my love, and dance with me
Let the royal court convene
You will be my dancing queen
I will be your loyal king
And of our love will angels sing
A dream come true, I know it in my heart
A dream come true, I know we'll never part
Our love will last forever
Trust in me and our dreams will all come true
Under the rainbow, over the sea
Come, my love, and marry me
Let the royal court convene
You will be my royal queen
The moment that you say 'I do'
Is when my royal dream comes true
A dream come true, I know it in my heart
A dream come true, I know we'll never part
Our love will last forever
Trust in me and our dreams will come true
A dream come true, I know it in my heart
A dream come true, I know we'll never part
Our love will last forever
Trust in me and our dreams will come true
They had gotten up and danced to the song, and once they were done kiss once more. "Sorry my singing voice isn't as good as yours but I had to let you know how I feel," Chris says and she shakes her head. "You sing just fine Chris but are you sure that Wesker can be defeated?" Bec asks. "Bec I will be successful this time. I will free you from Wesker," Chris said and Bec nods her head the excitement and events got to her. Chris realizing that she is falling asleep picks her up, places her on the bed, takes off her shoes and accessories, and climbs into bed with her and falls asleep.
The song is called A Dream Come True from The Nutcracker 1995
