Sparks Fly
Chapter Fourteen
A year had passed since their first admission of love. In that year they had a lot of obstacles to overcome, Spike was adamant on regaining all of his memories and worked with Willow often to help him. He's managed to remember a lot of his vampire life, some of which brought him great pain. He couldn't imagine that anybody was capable of such horrors but then he realised that it wasn't him that did these things it was the demon that lived inside him. And now that demon was gone. He was fully human, he tried not to dwell on the past too much, on the days when he was feeling the particularly low that's when he turned to Buffy and they got through it together.
Buffy decided not to go to Cleveland after all, she got her job back at The Paddock and Carl made her assistant manager. Something he should have done a long time ago. She was happy and content with life for the first time in her life. She had her friends, a job she loved and only the occasional monster showed up. Her relationship with Spike was different to what it had been in Sunnydale, Buffy set out some ground rules. They had to always be honest with each other, no running and they always had to say I love you at the end of the night no matter what.
Things were pretty perfect for the rest of the gang too, Willow and Xander decided to move to York, Willow was back and forth anyway as she still had obligations with the coven in Devon and she had a new love. A charming girl named Lucy, when Willow introduced her to them Buffy noted how much Lucy reminded her of Tara. Xander came back into the fold and began his healing journey, he sought the help of an amazing therapist and set up his own construction company which was going from strength to strength.
Dawn and Johnny's relationship blossomed exponentially over the course of the year. They'd moved in together after two months and never had a cross word.
When Johnny came to Buffy three weeks ago to ask permission to marry Dawn, Buffy broke down ugly crying. Her little sister, ex ball of energy, ex key, ex kleptomaniac was growing up and Buffy couldn't be more happy for her.
Johnny had concocted a plan to get Dawn to The Paddock on Saturday night and as the band debuted their new song, co-wrote by him. He would jump off the stage and ask Dawn to marry him.
It hadn't taken Buffy a lot to convince Dawn to get dressed up for a night out on the town. But Dawn was growing suspicious as Buffy told her what to wear and how to have her hair.
Dawn wore a light blue peplum dress that hugged her figure in all the right places. She wore her hair in a low pony just how Johnny liked it.
They walked into The Paddock, Love's Bitch were already playing. They made a beeline for the bar and got themselves a drink each. They joined the crowd and began to dance.
The song ended and of course the audience blew the roof off for them.
"Now then… I don't usually use the word delicious. But two little hotties have just walked in her and caught my eye" said Spike playfully
"This next song, it's a new one. And it's dedicated to the two ladies that just walked in" said Spike
*Highway run into the midnight sun. Wheels go 'round and 'round, you're on my mind. Restless hearts, sleep alone tonight. Sendin' all my love along the wire*
The crowd swayed to the music, including Buffy and Dawn. They both looked up at the stage adoringly
*They say that the road ain't no place to start a family. Right down the line, it's been you and me. And lovin' a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be. Oh, girl, you stand by me. I'm forever yours…Faithfully*
"This is the cutest!" Dawn yelled over the music.
"I'll say" said Xander coming up behind them
"Xand!" Dawn cheered
*Circus life under the big-top world. We all need the clowns to make us smile. Through space and time, always another show. Wonderin' where I am lost without you… And being apart ain't easy on this love affair. Two strangers learn to fall in love again. I get the joy of rediscovering you. Oh, girl, you stand by me. I'm forever yours. Faithfully*
Without warning Johnny jumped off stage and brushed through the crowd to get to Dawn. Buffy took the drink out of her hand as Johnny got down on one knee
"What are you doing?" Dawn laughed nervously
Johnny took her hand in his "Dawn Summers, I have loved you since the moment I met you. Please make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
Dawn burst into tears and nodded "Yes!"
Her hand shook as he placed the ring on her finger. Johnny rose from the floor and they kissed.
"She said yes!" Johnny yelled
The crowd rejoiced at the romantic display in front of them.
Spike carried on singing.
*Whoa-oh, oh-oh. Whoa-oh, oh-oh, oh. Whoa-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh. Faithfully. I'm still yours. I'm forever yours. Forever yours. Faithfully*
The song ended and Spike jumped off the stage to join his family on the dance floor. He congratulated the happy couple, and turned his attention to Buffy.
"Hello cutie" he smiled pulling her in for a kiss
"Hey you" she smiled
"How's my girl?" He asked
"I'm perfect" she told him
"And how's my baby?" He asked touching Buffy's stomach
"Shhh!" Buffy giggled "Nobody knows yet!"
"I can't help it, I wanna scream it from the rooftops luv" Spike grinned
"Let Dawn have her moment okay? We'll have ours soon enough" Buffy smiled
"We will" he assured her "I can't believe we're here Buffy"
She pulled him close as they swayed to the music together
"It's been one crazy ride" Buffy told him
"And I'd do it all again just to get to this moment. Everything I did to get back to you" said Spike
"I love you" she smiled
"I love you too"
