Oh My Gosh

Chapter 8

Dr. Kelford was examining Amanda one final time that morning, and upon finishing, wrote down things in Amanda's chart, stating, "Well, I can formally release you now, Mrs. King...Amanda."

Amanda swallowed, and asked, "And?"

Dr. Kelford nodded, answering, "Yes...What you originally thought from your home pregnancy test turned out to be true...You are pregnant...Congratulations."

Upon hearing the news, Amanda sank back into the pillows, with tears coming to her eyes, and Dr. Kelford, seeing her reaction, queried gently, "Are you alright, Amanda?"

Amanda shook her head and grabbing a tissue, dabbed at her eyes, and gulping, stated quietly, "I-I just realized that, while it is wonderful, I have a lot to think about...My career, my family, and L-"

Amanda stopped, and Dr. Kelford, pulling up the chair near the bed, sat down, and taking Amanda's hand, replied gently, "Nothing leaves this room unless you want it to...Now, I assume you told Billy when he was here earlier?"

Amanda sighed commenting, "Y-Yes, because Lee hadn't told him I was here being checked out...And yes, Lee is the father."

Dr. Kelford smiled, stating, "I assumed as much."

Amanda blushed slightly, answering, "Guess we weren't hiding our feelings around the Agency too well, were we?"

Dr. Kelford shrugged remarking, "Listen, it's hard enough finding that special someone out there in the real world...But you found it here at the Agency...I consider that damn lucky..."

But when she saw Amanda nod, and then her face cloud over, she asked, "What else is troubling you?"

Amanda sighed answering, "My-My family...They don't know about my real career here, and Lee only just met my mother during the Birol case, and then, just the other night, met my sons, Phillip and Jamie, and I told them that Lee and I had only recently started dating...I'm not sure how they'll react to this news."

Dr. Kelford responded lightly with, "Well, the old saying of "Accidents happen" applies here, I'd say...But didn't you tell me last night that Jamie originally found the home test?"

Amanda nodded, and said, "Yeah, but then I told the boys what my doctor said, that it was a false reading later."

Dr. Kelford sighed and remarked with a smile, "Well, tell them to expect a brother or sister after all, because the doctor made a mistake. We're only human after all...Anything else?"

Amanda stated with a shake of her head, "No, I think that's it...Oh, if you could just let Mr. Melrose know I'll be on my way to see him before I talk to Lee, please? I'd appreciate it."

Dr. Kelford queried, "What about Lee?"

Amanda replied, "I'll be filling him in when I'm done talking to Mr. Melrose...Thank you for everything, Dr. Kelford."

Dr. Kelford, rising from the chair, squeezed Amanda's hand, commenting, "Of course...You can go ahead and change, while I call Billy for you...Take care, Amanda."

A while later, Amanda got off the elevator at the Bullpen floor, and getting to Billy's office, knocked, and went in when he called,"Come in..."

Billy, getting up from his desk chair, went over to close the door, and close the blinds, and getting on his phone, stated to the Bullpen pool, "No calls."

Then gesturing to Amanda he responded, "Go ahead and sit, please, Amanda...How are you?"

Amanda, sitting across from his desk as he came back to his chair to sit once more, answered with a sigh, "I'm-I'm not sure yet...I mean, it's been twelve years since I had Jamie, and I feel like I've just started advancing here...That's what I wanted to see you about, Sir...Um, my family, of course, doesn't know about this job -other than I'm a documentary filmmaker-I'm just not sure how to proceed with this whole thing, and I'd really like some advice."

Billy sighed, and nodding, answered, "Well, we'll have slight adjustments to make here, of course. You'll have to modify your duties after a time...When are you due?"

Amanda commented, "Seven months."

Billy nodded and remarked, "Alright, we'll help with things from this end, but what about your family? Have you told them about your engagement yet?"

Amanda shook her head answering, "No, because the boys only met Lee the other night, and I had already told them that Lee and I had only just recently begun dating, and that my test was a false positive, but now it's a real positive, so I'm not sure how they'll take the news. My mother, on the other hand, may be thrilled right off the bat, but then again...You see why I'm confused?"

Billy smiled at her ramble and responded, "Look, Amanda. You know your family better than anyone...Just sit them down, and have a frank discussion with them. I'm sure they'll be fine."

Amanda shrugged, asking, "You mean, just "shoot from the hip", huh?"

Billy nodded, stating, "Only way to do it, I'm afraid. Anything else?"

Amanda then queried carefully, "Sir, do your children know about what you do?"

Billy, clearing his throat commented, "Jeannie and I decided to wait until the girls were older before we open that discussion. Unless something unforeseen happens, we're still just IFF here, alright?"

Amanda nodded and remarked, getting up from he chair, "Thank you, Sir...Well, guess I'll go up to the "Q" now...How's Lee doing?"

Billy smirked, answering, "Chomping at the bit to go see you...Fortunately, Mrs. Marston makes for an excellent MP...But I'll call her off guard duty and tell her you're on your way."

And as Amanda left, Billy thought, It really was a good idea of mine to pair those two up years ago! I think they'll be fine...
