Chapter 6: Sky Egg
National Museum of History and Heroes
Vigilante Section
The hustle and bustle of people walking around, eagerly chatting with one another as they moved around the multiple circle of elevated platforms. Within each of these platforms stood a mannequin in costumes or suits, each separated from the rest by a layer of see through reinforced glass.
Gaudy,aren't they?
Black pupils stared back at the glasses but not at the content within, rather towards the transparent and bare reflection of themselves.
Look at this, these tights go all the way up. That can't be comfortable.
Crona finally eyed the clothing article, studying it for a while before looking back at their reflection.
In contrast to them, their reflection was moving animatedly back and forth, gazing sideways and fingers on chin.
"I think it is fine." Crona muttered quietly, it wasn't any different from how they wear their uniforms and clothes anyway.
Yea but that's the outer clothing, this goes all the way to the ba-
"If you stare at it any harder, you might melt the glass."
Turning to the sides as the familiar swishing yellow mane tail followed by the cleanly kept haircut, Ojiro waved before following their glance. "This vigilante caught your eyes?"
"Yes." Both of them replied together before Crona continued. "We-I, was thinking on how the suit looks."
"A bit too brightly yellow colored." Ojiro shrugged his shoulders at that before grinning at him. "I think it would match you."
"I am not sure if it would…" Crona started but all of a sudden, it was like he had been tugged backwards violently as his voice changed to a much deeper tone.
"Absolutely not." The deadpanned voice and sheer refusal had Crona mouth blurted their inner thoughts before they refrained from speaking more and hand went to cover his mouth from ingrained habit.
Ojiro blinks momentarily, staring at one another with a large owl-like eyes before he laughed and slapped his shoulder. "Just kidding, you would look terrible in it."
"I suppose." Crona smiled wryly even as they gripped their right arm tightly with their left hand.
"Come on, let's check out other sections." Ojiro gestured with his thumb, leading the way as Crona followed behind and his eyes going to the nearest reflection.
That wasn't supposed to happen. Kurono replied as they walked together in sync, reflecting constantly from other surfaces.
Crona brows furrowed as they nervously shuffled forward.
"Maybe your will got stronger?" Crona offered an explanation as they looked back on their experience with Ragnarok, although the latter would manifest themselves rather than direct body control.
Or maybe my will has gotten weaker. Crona idly thought to themselves, eyes downcast and falling onto the floor.
I think you just got more comfortable with me around.
That brought a gentle smile at that positive thought. "Really?"
"Really what?" Ojiro asked as he turned towards them.
"Oh-uh, just wondering if lunch is gonna be really good." Kurono quickly took over as he waved his left arm at that before returning it to grasp his right arm. "I kind of want some ramen, udon, or even those fancy heroes bento set."
"I doubt it, we're probably going to have sandwiches. Also, is food all you think about?" Ojiro shrugged his shoulders at that as he sardonically asked.
"Yes, the next meal is always what I think about." Kurono answered without any hesitation that it took Ojiro aback, patting his stomach despite his thin frame. "If I don't eat enough rice, the power won't come."
Ojiro's stunned look lasted only for a moment before chuckling even as he pat Kurono's back. "You sound like an old man."
"That's right~" A cheery voice interrupted them and had both of them on edge as they looked to the back immediately.
Only for Toga to poke their cheeks with her fingers, a smug grin on her face as she giggled mischievously. "Made you look!"
Ojiro only sighed deeper inwardly and slumped his shoulders even as he flicked her fingers with his tail. "Are you going to do that all the time?"
"Yup!" Toga puffed her chest out at that even as she continued to poke Kurono in their face, the latter barely registering her attempt until she leaned forward into his sight.
"But too much rice isn't good, you know." She pointed out as she lectured him. "You taste bland if you eat only that."
"I-I am sorry?" Crona replied, being unceremoniously shoved to the front by Kurono. The latter had unintentionally shot up their heartbeat and adrenaline levels from the sudden appearance of Toga.
I'm sorry but after all these years, I'm still afraid of her. Crona eyes wandered to the sides and caught Kurono having both arms raised forward defensively towards Toga.
That, and she had been exceptionally well in sneaking past their sight and attention, even with the two of them.
Toga tilted her head to the sides before slapping his arms lightheartedly with a bright smile on her face. "But don't worry, I still like you!"
"I'm not sure if I can handle that." Crona shifted his feet awkwardly at that, face heating and blood rushing though Kurono redirected some of that away as he sarcastically pointed out.
She means how we taste.
"Well, where did you go this time?" Ojiro changed the topic quickly as he caught some of their schoolmates' eyes glancing at them.
"Villain section."
"But why there?"
"Cause it's interesting." Toga shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly at that. "And fun."
Ojiro could only raise his brow at that even as Crona continued the conversation.
"I see, anything interesting?"
"There were a few nice designs but the rest was not cute at all." She huffed and turned her nose at that. "The heroes and vigilante also aren't better."
"I am sure you will find something." Crona assured.
Ojiro blinked several times before directing his attention to Toga. "Wait, were you checking out the villain section because of how they dress?"
"Lame, totally lame, it is all just leather, spandex, or fatigues!" Toga waved her hands disapprovingly. "Why not scarves, hats, dresses, frills or even skirts?!"
"You want a Gothic lolita fashion style?" Kurona suggested as he came forward after a moment on contemplation, his posture becoming straighter and shoulders more upright.
"Yes, why can't they all dress like that?!" Toga passionately said with a finger pointed towards him.
"That's really old fashion." Kurono bluntly stated, it has been nearly a hundred years or more, and people still remember that style?
"Hmph, you one to talk." Toga crossed her arms as she puffed her cheeks as she eyed him.
"I'll have you know I also wear dark blue, grey, olive, and tan besides black and white." Kurono defended himself with an annoyed look and pointed finger.
That's not better. Crona muttered from the back of his mind.
"Not helping." Ojiro commented before gesturing to the two. "Anyways, want to find a window and take a look at the Sky Egg? The event is probably starting right now."
"Sure." Kurono slowly relinquished control back to Crona, his feet pointed inward and regaining his shuffling gait.
Crona turned with a weak smile to Ojiro and nodded. "Let's go."
"Come now, be a little more enthusiastic! We might get to see Captain Celebrity before he leaves!" Ojiro raised his fist at that before moving ahead, his tail straightened before resting on his shoulders.
"Hmm, Best Jeanist,Gang Orca, Midnight, Present Mic, Snipe, Miruko, Ryuko-" Toga flipped her fingers on the phone as she browsed the list of heroes that was invited to it. "Oh, Ingenium and the Pussy Cats are there too."
"Maybe we can get their autographs too afterwards!" Ojiro was smiling ear to ear at that list, getting more eager at that.
"I don't think I can handle meeting them in person…" Crona mumbled at that, uncertainty filling him, not just from discomfort but also what was about to happen in the future.
If things go well, it shouldn't. Kurono added but that didn't stop the bile rising in their stomach. It went well the last time he remembered the end.
Yet, the sense of dread didn't leave them.
It was worrying, particularly for Kurono.
After all, the last time he felt this way, he died.
"Alrighty, the trucks reaching their destination now." A figure stood at the top of a building, pulling his hat down even as he looked at the tablet. Grinning wider as each red signal slowly turned green, prompting him to look up from it as he surveyed from his position.
"Is everything in position? Rokuro?" His earpiece crackle, breaking his thoughts as he answered back to his creator.
"Yup, it's done perfectly." Rokuro said as he idly brushed his fingers over his diagonal scar. "All that's left is for me to push to the button and we're ready for this explosive carnival."
"Good, this batch of nomu's should be interesting to test. I have them equipped with plenty of quirks, ranging from regeneration, explosive, multiplication and even electricity quirks."
"And all of that at the control of yours truly? My, my, doctor, you're spoiling me!" Rokuro browsed through the extensive list of information, that's not including physical enhancements quirks too!
"Only the best." The voice replied proudly before his tone changed. "After all, this is also to clean up loose ends, particularly Captain Celebrity since he barged into some of our operations."
Ah, yes, that too. Rokuro sighed, recalling certain operations being found by sheer luck or intentional strikes.
"This is to send a message to All Might and his compatriots." A far more bitter tone came before it changed into a light-hearted one. "But most importantly, to test out these nomus! Run wild and get as much data as you can!"
"Alright, I hear ya." Rokuro adjusted his hat before the tablet started flashing red that grasped his attention, a quick swipe of his fingers and it brought up a live-feed of the security cameras.
"Oh, looks like our heroes finally caught up to our operations." Rokuro looked through the feed, seeing the number of heroes and police forces storming into their pharmacy factory. Some of them were familiar to him during the Osaka investigation.
Too bad, they're too slow this time as the last of the trucks finally reached its destination.
"Let's get this carnival started!" Rokuro giggled as he dramatically raised his hands before bringing it down to launch the application.
Elsewhere, twelve trucks had its content slowly stirred to life as electronic signals filled its biological brains, twitching and slowly moving to fulfill its orders.
"Why is it called a sky egg?" Toga asked even as she looked behind the windows, her eyes squinting and widening even as she used her fingers to create a painting frame shape. "It looks more like an umbrella."
"Maybe they thought the name was nice?" Crona answered hesitantly even as they looked at the tower together. His neck crane at an angle and head tilted to the sides.
"Well, historically, the name was put to public voting to decide." Ojiro explained curtly.
"And they choose the sky egg?" Toga snickered as she looked at it, the name didn't fit at all!
But it was cute looking, so it's fine.
It was too bad that they had this visit trip on the same day, she'll love to visit the event with Kurono and Ojiro together. Thoughts of playing hooky came to her but Kurono was insistent on coming to this place instead.
Which was odd, she thought he'll like heroes since he wanted to become one. Ojiro after all would've done the same if Kurono had joined in.
Ah, there he goes again. Toga eyes caught it, the slight turn of his neck and sideward tilt as he looked not at the buildings but rather, the reflection of himself.
Was she missing something, a piece of information or angle? Why this place instead of the live heroes?
Well, it was still a worthwhile venture. Heroes save others because they want to, a simple answer.
It made sense, they're simply living how they want to live. It wasn't in her but she can understand why they do it.
But not enough, still not enough. She needed to know more in order to fully understand Kurono. After all, she understood one part but not the other. His reason, need, and desire. She wanted to know every facet of it.
Only then, could she feel complete.
It can't be helped, it's just my natural curiosity after all. She sighed softly and dreamily at that, unaware of her surroundings for a brief moment and ended up bumping into someone behind.
"I'm sorry-Oh, it's y-you," A familiar mop of green hair and stuttering noise, one that had her recognized immediately when she turned around. "Miss Himiko, wasn't it?"
"Zuku!" Toga threw her arms outstretched before putting it backwards and tilted to the sides as she smiled. "What's up!"
"Haha," Izuku panickedly laughed as he rubbed the back of his head. "Are you here to try to get a look at the event too?"
"Yup." She leaned slightly towards the sky egg direction. "No luck so far!"
"Yea, it's too bad." Izuku nodded before he realized that he had caught the attention of her friends, making him slight back a little before bowing to them. "How do you do, I'm-"
"Midoriya Izuku?"
Izuku snapped upwards in surprise even as he was greeted back with a bow, pink hair following the motion. It took a moment for him to recall that it was the same person that he saw earlier with Himiko.
"Toga told me about you. I'm Tatewaki Kurono."
"I'm Mashirao Ojiro." His tail swished briefly as he offered a hand to Izuku, the latter taking and shaking it nervously. "Nice to meet you."
"Y-You too!" Izuku replied with a smile. "It's great to meet you two!"
"No need to be so nervous." Kurono commented before they slackened their shoulders, their legs shifting their weight around even as they idly twirled the edge of their hair bang. "We're also nervous meeting new people."
"Haha, that's true." Ojiro said as he slapped the back of Kurono.
"We're all a bunch of introverts after all." Toga chuckled, sharing a glance at Kurono.
"Ah-I see," Izuku eyes cycled between the three of them as he breathed easier. "Also, Tatewaki, are you related to the pro-hero , Tatewaki Kurogane?"
"Yes? He's my father." Kurono answered with a raised brow though he stiffened like a pole just as Izuku's smile widened as he can scarcely believe his luck, a son of a pro-hero was right here!
"Really?! Can you tell me more about him, I only saw him a few times before during All Might interviews in the background. I had thought he was a detective or police until I did further research-" All his previous shyness disappeared as the heat of his passion came out, moving forwards towards Kurono even as his mouth spoke quickly and taking out his well worn notebook and pen.
That approach however startled Kurono as the latter moved and circled around Izuku closing presence, until he accidentally bumped into another by-passer.
"What the hell?!"
Oh no. A shared look of fear came to both Izuku and Kurono as a familiar blonde made his presence known, loudly.
"Sorry for that." Kurono quickly apologized with his head bowed, shying away from him instinctually.
"Watch it! You blind or something?!" A quick shove to Kurono's chest barely moved the latter which prompted an even more annoyed look from Katsuki.
"Kacchan."
That directed Katsuki attention back to Izuku, gulping in fear and rooted in the spot.
"Cheh, you're here too, Deku?" A sharp comment came even as he looked at them then Toga and Ojiro before dismissing them with a huff. More annoyed that he had spent time and attention on them. "What's this? A congregation of losers?"
"That's not,-they're not loser, just people I met!" Izuku said, unaware of the multitude of annoyed looks and twitching fingers from the trio drawn towards him.
"That's rude." Ojiro curtly responded.
"Quite a funny fellow, isn't he?" Toga smiled back, her head tilted to the sides while she talked in a sweet informal tone and smile though her narrowed eyes told a different story to her actual feelings.
"We're friends." Kurono followed up as he raised his head, taking a step to the sides and placing him in between Izuku and Katsuki. Daring to look at him straight in the eye. "Here to see the event that's taking place, would you like to join?"
"Feh, as if, fuck, this visit is boring enough-" Katsuki glared at them before he flippantly changed his attention to something else as he was already moving away from them but not before bumping his shoulders against Kurono roughly.
That had Toga dropping her smile immediately, fist clenched as she lifted her foot to go forward but Ojiro grabbed her arm instantly and shook his head. If Katsuki noticed it, he didn't say a word as he continued his path unerringly.
Izuku let out a breath that he hadn't realized he was holding, relieved that nothing happened.
Did Kacchan wince? He wasn't sure what happened as he saw a brief twitch from his friend as Kurono continued to watch his back, not moving at all from his initial position.
"You alright?" Kurono then switched his attention to him as he spoke in a much softer tone.
"I'm fine, that's just Kacchan being Kacchan." Izuku waved it off.
But he said we're friends. He tapped his fingers together and barely resisted a smile from forming.
"Hmph, let's go get some drinks." Toga finally said as she clung onto Kurono and pulled Izuku alongside them, leading the way in the opposite direction of Katsuki. "Come on, Ojiro will treat us."
"Me?!" Ojiro's jaw dropped as he pointed to himself.
"That's what you get for stopping me." Toga muttered under breath with her arms crossed. Nose facing upwards and huffing.
"It's alright, I can pay for my own-" Izuku quickly waved his hands to the sides, not wishing to impose on others.
"I don't think that's fair..." Kurono muttered before they stopped in their tracks and faced outside of the windows.
Crona, what's up? Kurono asked mentally as he felt the sudden stop and spike in heart rate, rising up from his relaxed state when he allowed Crona to take the wheels.
"Something's wrong." Crona said even as they scanned the skies, ignoring the looks of Izuku, Toga and Ojiro to their back.
It's starting already? Kurono immediately caught on, left hand fingers twitching but Crona kept a firm control over it.
No, a gut feeling. Crona eyes moved to the streets instead and came to a rest at a particular truck that stopped outside of the Museum entrance.
"What's wrong?" Both Toga and Izuku asked as they tried to follow his gaze.
"Saw a hero?" Ojiro animatedly said before they raised their brow. "A delivery truck at the front, shouldn't those go behind?"
"Oh, it's an automated delivery truck system." Izuku followed up as he recognized the brand. "I wonder what they're sending, perhaps it's an additional hero display?"
The moment the words left his mouth, the truck gained a huge bulge from within, a shrieking and booming noise that reached them despite the distance. Another boom followed as the truck looked like a balloon before it burst open like a ripe fruit, sending guards panicking as they shut the gates immediately.
There, a black shadowy emerge, before it seemed to grow larger and with a gust, revealed itself to be a large, bulky monster without eyes or ears, yet it moved and perceived without any problems as its large black wings beat the air.
No. Both Kurono and Crona had the same thought, the former recognizing it despite time wearing his memories from the series.
"The hell is that?!"
What's it doing here?! They're supposed to go to the Sky Egg, not fuck around! Kurono panicked, nearly breaking and taking over as Crona had to actively fight for control in remaining steady.
Then before more can be said, the monster made a beeline straight towards the museum.
Directly towards them.
"Get down!" Kurono will this time won over Crona, their body bursting into action as he pushed all three of them away from the window as far as possible.
Moments later, a combined shriek of screams and glass filled the air as they felt themselves flung forwards, gravity and scenery blurring together as one.
Tokyo Sky Egg
At the observatory deck, located underneath the proper Sky Egg stadium that's able to hold nearly fifty thousand people, a large man in a blue uniform with gold trimming at its end alongside a red cape sighed as he placed his handphone down.
That could've gone a lot better. He brushed his stylish blonde hair to the sides and shoulders slumped.
His eyes glanced to the large advertisement board that featured him prominently, recalling the numerous heroes that came for this event, all that effort put in by his staff, secretary and other acquaintances that he knew off.
And he blew it all up in a single moment.
I just wanted to tell the world about my family, and my kid. He rubbed the back of his head before bringing his phone up, swiping it and smiled at the wallpaper he set up.
"Hey Cap, they need you upstairs soon."
That broke his thoughts as he turned around to be met with a young kid waving his hand, talking to him casually.
"Got it," Captain Celebrity replied with a nod, keeping his phone back into his pockets as he stood up, brushed his hair and gave a confident smile to psych himself back up. It's not over yet and he wouldn't want to have this farewell end on such a lame note. "Alright, let's get to it, shall we?!"
"Haha, that's the spirit cap!" Koichi beamed, feeling bad for what had just occurred to Captain Celebrity a few minutes ago. He doubted he would've been able to bounce back that quickly.
"Speaking of which, did you see the merchandise here? I can't believe they carry special All Might hoodies!" Koichi quickly pointed out as they walked back along the hallways to the Sky Egg elevators.
"They sell speciality hoodies here too?" Captain Celebrity shrugged with a smile before noticing something odd at the corner of his eyes. A quick turn towards it showed six plumes of white or black smoke coming from different locations from the metropolis of Tokyo.
"Smoke?" Koichi raised an eyebrow before he caught something flying towards them rapidly, the small figure slowly growing larger and larger as his eyes adjusted to it.
Then like a cold splash of water, it dawned on him what it was "The black monster during Christmas!"
"Really, they're going to attack here of all places?" Captain Celebrity quickly adjusted his sunglasses, pushed Koichi back from the windows even as he took the plunge by shattering the windows first. "Kid, get to cover and alert the rest!"
The rush of cold air and pressure was barely felt by him as he wreathed himself in his quirk, a slight glow of energy protecting him from the environment, serving as the source of his speed and strength.
"Alright then, you want a piece of me? Then come and get it!" He rushed forward even as the villain's lower body expanded like a balloon, giving him enough of a tell that he moved forward without hesitation.
"Oh no you don't!" Pressing forward, he took the blow of the explosive before giving it a good slug in the head.
The monster reeled to the sides, tumbling a few times in the air before it managed to balance itself again as it flew away before making another turn back to him.
Captain Celebrity was about to give chase but at the corner of his eyes, he saw multiple monsters flying past him stealthily.
One, two, three of them!? Snapping his attention to the sides and doing a fast headcount, he quickly raised his sunglasses and the embedded ear piece at the sides.
"This is Captain Celebrity, Makoto, come in, there are multiple villains incoming to your position! I repeat, there are multiple villains incoming-!" He flew forward in an effort to intercept them, the cracking of voice and electrical signal even as Makoto barely managed to respond.
Then a crackling sound and scent of ozone filled his nostril, one of the closest monsters veered off their path suddenly and right into a collision course with him.
Electrical statics and discharge crackling off their large frame even as the back of his hair rose.
No good!
A brilliant display of lightning arced outside of the Sky Egg, accompanied by a cascade of explosive noises filled the air.
"How many were sent out!?"
"T-Twelve! Listen, I just work here, I don't know anything about-"
"Tsk!"
Shouta Aizawa dropped the pharmaceutical employee white coat as he quickly move and pressed his earpiece.
"Detective, you got that?" He sharply said, formulating the next plan of action.
"Got it, pull out their schedule logs-." Tsukauchi muttered from the end of his line, the echoes of rapid tapping heard in between. "They're headed to twelve separate areas, four of them concentrated around the Sky Egg, eight of them distributed further. It seems the Sky Egg is the pinnacle of this operation."
Eight distraction, four to attack the heroes? Underestimating or confident? Aizawa considered all the outcomes before making his call.
"Inform the heroes at the Sky Egg to handle the four, call out any additional heroes available to help us sort out the other eight location"
"Roger, we'll send you quickly to the nearest point."
Aizawa was already outside of the building by the time the conversation was done, waving his hand to signal his assigned partners for this mission for now.
"Fatgum, police girl, we're moving out!"
"Gotcha partner!" Fatgum, the osakan pro-hero who's currently working with him, hollered out. His large size waddled forward in a speed that didn't fit his image, next to him, a short-twin tailed red haired lady dressed in a kevlar-vest and police uniform followed suit.
"I'll take the wheel, you two get ready to hustle!" She quickly moved ahead towards a police car, sliding over the car hood and opened the door for her to slide right in before opening the door for Aizawa to get in ."And name's Kaniko, Eraserhead!"
The moment Fatgum got in, Kaniko slammed the accelerator as the car shrieked and drove ahead like a bullet.
"Closest one is about eight minutes! Kosa Mall!" Tsukauchi's voice came from their radio police car, showcasing the closest route. "We've tried contacting the heroes at the Sky Egg but they're not responding!"
Means it started already. Aizawa grumbled inwardly as he crossed his arms and tapped his fingers. The moment that thought was complete, other reports blared in from other channels.
"There's a villain at the Eadu hospital! Repeat, there's a villain at Eadu hospital!"
"Kosa Mall is under attack by an unknown villain with a mutation quirk! Wings, large size and no visible eyes or ears-"
"Report, there's an explosion at the National Museum of History and Heroes! Closest unit, please respond-"
A heavy air lingered even as they listened to the heavy amount of chatter and cracking as new reports surged like a tidal wave. The last conversation between them as their police sirens blared out loudly, clearing the path for them.
Fatgum pumped himself by cracking his knuckles in between the silence, all of them focused with what's currently on the line. Right now, they need to restrain these bio-weapons as fast as they can as one before moving to the other.
It's impossible to take down all the bio-weapons but they banish such thoughts.
That's what being a hero is after all.
Please leave a comment and thoughts on this chapter, thank you.
