Interlude 2: Curtain closes
Beep
Blood dripped slowly from a pack, consistently fed into a bear of a man, laying still and unconscious on top of an operating table. Parts of his chest were opened and revealing his innards.
Beep
Attended by the sides were two surgeons. One shorter and older but moved her hands steadily and firmly, her movements then mimicked by a robot that carefully and gently kept the wound open.
The other was much younger but in her hands, a black lump floated above her hands, eyes closed in complete concentration as she slowly moved it into the chest.
Above them, was a see-through window with three participants watching the operation with bated breath. The tallest of them was wearing a frown that looked like it was chiseled from rocks, his glare focused on the younger surgeon.
"Any harder, and you'll burn a hole through the glass, Nighteye." A chuckle came from his side, sending Nighteye to forcibly relax even as the speaker placed a reassuring pat to the side. "Worry not, Recovery Girl is personally overseeing this operation."
"Sorry, Nezu, I have full faith in her, just not in this...method." Eyes once again falling into the black object, now being placed inside All Might's chest before turning to the white-furred, talking mouse that stood as tall as a child. Though a scar ran downwards diagonally on one of his eyes, Nezu only nodded understandingly as his concern.
"I agree, isn't this untested?" Torino gruffly said with arms crossed together.
"Untested as a prosthetic organ, yes, but the base material itself was heavily tested both by Recovery girl and Ayuna for two years."
"That doesn't fill us with confidence." Torino refrained from groaning, that was way too short for something as important as this.
"Indeed but would you prefer a lie?" Nezu added with a much more subdued smile before lowering his shoulders. "I can assure you at least, there's no problem when it comes to rejection."
"From?" Nighteye looked at the operation, finally asking the source.
"Ayuna herself, alongside selected volunteers. The black blood would be injected inside of them and under strict observation until they're back to full health."
"Side effects?"
"Heightened awareness and focus, increased blood cell production, and division of cells. It's a temporary solution and the prosthetic organs would be inert." Nezu raised a paw to them reassuringly. "Not to the extent of creating cancer, so far. We can change the blood out once his condition stabilizes."
So far. That statement worried both of them but kept it to the sides, a quirk no doubt had its failsafe to ensure such a thing won't happen.
Then again, a quirk being able to impart its properties to others would be incredulous if not for the fact that they fought against someone with a far more ludicrous quirk.
At that moment, Ayuna and Recovery girl finished reattaching the prosthetic lung into All Might before moving to slowly stitch and close the wound. The latter focused on the multiple signals being sent into the machine.
"Lifesigns steadying, no active rejection." Recovery Girl slowly nodded to Ayuna for the next step of the operation and pressed a signal button.
With that, two robots turned and lifted a new crate to reveal a blood pack, its content dark as the night, to replace the current blood drip.
"Proceeding with the second phase, black blood will now be fed into All Might to ensure prosthetic organ function properly." Recovery announced, eyes briefly looking upwards to them before turning to Ayuna and nodded once.
Ayuna clipped the blood pack open and hooked it upwards to a stand.
Slowly, the contents began to make their way into All Might slumbering form…
Hosnian hill
"Damn it, damn it, damn it!"
Garaki Kyudai, formerly known as Daruma Ujiko, swerved around despite the immense wounds on his body.
"Doctor, you need medical attention yourself! If you just take a-" Shaula urged even as she tried to pull him to the sides.
"No time!" Garaki snapped at Shaula, though the latter eyes narrowed at that. "Go and stabilize his condition! I'll find the quirks necessary for his resuscitation."
He can't allow the worse to come to pass, he can't!
Currently running back and forth in a small hidden facility, barely able to resuscitate and stabilize his benefactor.
Though looking at the operating table, it was far from pretty. The body wracked, arms completely shattered and his head was caved in completely to the point that it's a miracle that All For One was even alive.
Next to operation tables stood specialized nomus, one standing above All For one and generating a suspending field between its palm, keeping him afloat while another smaller nomu was keeping its hand in constant contact on his chest.
Although it is rapidly shrinking even as it slowly began to bleed from its mouth and eyes, yet it didn't cry or utter a single word of pain.
Shaula had already gone ahead and administered her treatment, her hair stringer pinching and puncturing the skin lightly as special doses of poison flooded All For One vein.
Slowly, the bleeding stopped itself and the body went into a false coma to buy time as Garaki worked overtime.
Finding the right combination of vials and syringes, he quickly moved to the operation table to begin the transfer.
Not before giving a boost to the smaller nomu, Willy, with a cocktail of chemicals meant to enhance one quirk though it came at the expense of the one's life.
But in this scenario, no sacrifice is too great!
This made the smaller nomu bulked up to a bigger size as the minor wound on All For One slowly patched itself at the cost of itself, wounds and damage now transferred faster as it rapidly approached decay.
It still wasn't enough.
Garaki quickly moved to inject a new mixture into All For One but this time, it was much more precious.
Cause within each vial was a quirk meant for regeneration.
A normal person wouldn't handle it, after all, that's why the nomus are so hard to make.
But All For One, he can take it.
So with that knowledge, he feverishly injected vial after vial before stopping at the fifth.
"No changes, It's still dropping," Shaula said as the machine showed that the vitals were still dropping.
Furiously, Garaki racked his brain in finding out the combination. He was sure that it would've created a cascading effect-!
A warping sound had the two of them snapped back immediately out of fear.
The black mist that appeared out of nowhere solidified itself as two gleaming eyes peered back, in its hands was full of vials, containers, and a small chiller box as more things were set down onto the floor.
"Ah, Kurogiri! Did you manage to secure the vials?" Garaki excitedly said as he quickly approached him while Shaula directed her stinger back down.
"Not all of them," Kurogiri shook his head, hands grasping his neck idly as the collar around his neck was cracked. "Gran Torino and Nighteye were thorough, nearly all of the important ones were gone. I only managed a handful of them away."
"And the high-ends?" Garaki hopefully looked but dismay befell him when Kurogiri shook his head.
"My priority was the young master first. As it is, nearly all of the high ends were all caught."
"...it'll have to do then," Garaki quickly sorted and discarded which quirks would help. Though to his fear, none of them were any good. Then at the corner of his eyes, the familiar chiller box pulled his attention.
"Isn't that?" Shaula's eyes lit in recognition.
"I found it in your office during your search, it looked important since you never keep a medical chiller in your office."
Ayuna's. Garaki pupils widened, recalling its quirks. He quickly yanked the chiller open before blinking several times as the blood bag was pitch black.
Wait, isn't this her son's blood? Seeing the name listing and blood type. He had the chance to briefly hear about the son's quirk and had checked it secretly, the only thing special about it was the viscosity as it was near identical to Ayuna's quirk.
Still, if it's the same, then it'll certainly help. Her blood didn't place any additional stress onto a patient, and over time, will heal wounds at a much faster pace.
Hooking it up, Garaki moved to pump the blood into All For One. The moment the process started, Garaki anxiously looked at the vital signs.
"No changes," Shaula muttered as she kept her eyes on the machine for a good thirty seconds before they both came to a similar conclusion.
But not dropping either.
Can this be it? Garaki held his breath as he continued to bring more vials, ready to intervene even as the smaller nomu finally gave out, rolling over and dropping to the floor with a thud much to Shaula's annoyance as she brushed it off aside with a kick as its life expired.
The vitality stayed the same as before.
This time, Garaki poured every ounce of his attention to fixing the body, growing the bones, organs, and skin. Heart racing as he barely noticed the large smile forming.
Success! Grinning maniacally as he can't believe his luck! It looks like the blood did the trick!
In between, he idly questioned if there was something more to the blood. Come to think about it, a quirk can either mix, passed down or in rare cases, won't manifest itself.
Was there perhaps some other hidden effect in the blood that Ayuna wasn't aware of?
"Kurogiri." He spoke without turning his attention even as he opened All For One body, ignoring the blood spurting as he moved to reset the shattered bones so that they'll heal properly.
"Yes?"
"Find more information about Ayuna's child or procure more of his blood." Garaki sutures the wound as the cracking sound of bones can be heard. "Shaula, run more tests on his quirk. Find out the full extent of its use."
"Understood." Shaula nodded with a grin even as she returned to the grim task of rebuilding All For One body. Seeing the battered condition, it was no better than pieces of meat at this point.
So why not replace it with more...usable parts? Her eyes moved to the unmoving and unquestioning...nomus.
Indeed, they might have lost but the doctor survived. They can still rebuild and gain back what they lost.
And time was ever on their side.
Alright, now the interludes are done. It should've been longer but I don't want to draw it out.
