His heart was racing fast. It had taken him 2 weeks to come to terms with his feelings for her. He loved Hermione Granger and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn't see an owl swoop in and drop a letter for him on his lap.
He was brought back to the reality when the owl was hooting to get his attention and get the payment. He looked at the letter and saw Hermione's neat handwriting before looking for a few sickles. The owl hooted a quick thanks and flew out of the window it came from.
He opened her letter and started reading
Dear Harry,
I finally got my parent's memories back and, well they don't hate me but they won't talk to me either. But I will keep working towards bringing them back to Britain, preferably before our 'last year'. I still can't believe I made you agree to go back to Hogwarts with me.
I miss you and Ron, but you mostly. I received a letter from Luna saying that she and Ron will go on date this week, did Ron tell you about this? I hope it goes well because they look good together.
I am sorry to ask this of you, but could you please buy my supplies as well for Hogwarts? I'll pay you back once I get back. Promise!
I got to go now, I have to convince Mum and Dad. I wait for your reply, Harry.
Love,
Hermione
She misses him. She MISSES him. SHE MISSES HIM. He was over the moon by this information. He quickly sets to jot down his reply and send it to Hermione.

2 Weeks later
Harry was waiting at the Leaky Cauldron for Hermione with her supplies. He was almost nervous for this encounter. He was going to tell her how he feels about her, then it was up to her reaction how they moved forward.
He was so lost in all the possible ways she could reject him he didn't hear his name being called, it was only when he felt a tap on his shoulder that he turned to see Hermione smiling at him. He hugged her tightly and raised her off her feet surprising her as he rarely starts any hugs. He let her down and composed himself.
'You got all my stuff. Thanks. And as promised here is the money I owe you.', she said while handing him a few Galleons. 'No, no, no. I won't take these. Consider it a payback for all the times you saved my arse from tight spots.' She looked at him as if she was about to bite his head off but reluctantly accepted.
Harry and Hermione then gave their stuff to Tom the Barman for safekeeping while they went to greet Ron at the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, where they were met with a surprise. They entered the shop and found it empty. They started roaming about when they heard a box drop in the storage area.
They had their wands in hand and slowly made way towards the Storeroom. There they found Ron and Luna snogging. Rather ferociously. Luna saw both Harry and Hermione watching and quickly broke apart. Ron was confused for a second before looking behind him and getting a shade of red that would be visible even on moonless night.
'We…uh…We were…We slipped and our lips met, alright?', he stammered out. 'It's alright, Ron, we both know about your relationship, but next time, please do this behind a closed door.', Harry replied barely suppressing his laughter.
But one look at Ron's and Luna's face and they couldn't hold any longer and burst out laughing. All were soon laughing.
'I missed this', Ron finally said when all laughing had stopped, 'Us laughing as if we have no worry of the world.'
'Me too, Ron. Me too.' Harry added and Hermione nodded. Soon Luna came with some tea and few snacks that 'Ron had left' as Luna put it.
Harry and Hermione stayed there till 7:30 pm before heading back to Leaky Cauldron for Hermione's stuff. Harry walked her to a nearby train station, Hermione was about to enter the station when Harry grabbed her hand.
'Hermione, I… uh… I need to talk to you about something.', he managed out. 'What is it, Harry? Is everything okay?', Hermione asked. 'Well, not exactly. There's something that's been bothering me for a while. Something that I can't keep to myself any longer.', Harry replies.
'You're scaring me, Harry. What is it?', Hermione asks
'Ever since, we - that is to say me and Ron – became your friend, we rarely ever thanked you for the depths you went to save our arse.' Harry stated.
It looked like Hermione wanted to say something but stopped when Harry raised his hand, 'You were there with me when Ron wasn't, and I am not trying to say that Ron is a bad friend, he is one of the best I could have asked for, but he has his moments where he acts like a bit of a jerk.'
One look from Hermione was enough for Harry to add, 'Alright a big jerk. But the point I am trying to say is that you are always there for me.' 'Getting off point here, doofus' his brain reminded him.
He suddenly blurted out, 'Hermione, I... I like you.'
'No slap. That's good', he thinks before continuing.
'I like you more than a friend. You're the most wonderful, smart, kind person I've ever met. You're always there for me, no matter what. You make me laugh, you make me think, you make me happy. You're the only one who understands me. And I can't stop thinking about you.', he told her. She was silent. Not a good sign.
Finally, after a few moments pass by she breaks the silence by asking, 'Harry... are you serious?'
'Yes, Hermione. I'm very serious.', hopefully reducing any of her doubts. 'I've felt this way for a long time. According to me I'd say I started liking you in our 6th Year but I was afraid to tell you. Afraid of how you would react. Afraid of what Ron would say. Afraid of ruining our friendship.'
'I know it's probably a lot to take in. And maybe you don't feel the same way. Maybe you only see me as a friend. And that's fine. I don't want to pressure you. But I had to tell you how I feel. Because you deserve to know.', he finally finishes. During this whole speech, he was finding his shoes more and more interesting.
'Harry, look at me. Do you really think I only see you as a friend? Do you really think I don't feel the same way?', Hermione asks. 'Do you?', Harry asks her.
'Of course, I do Harry. I like you too. I've liked you for so long. But I was afraid to tell you. Afraid of what it would mean. Afraid of what others would think. Afraid of losing you.', Hermione tells him.
'Hermione, you'll never lose me. You're my best friend. And more than that, you're the one I want to be with.', Harry tells her. 'No matter what happens in the future you will always be my best friend.'
He heard her things drop as he was wrapped in a tight embrace. Harry and Hermione remained in this position for what felt like an eternity.
They reluctantly broke apart but both blushing crazily. Harry helped her gather her things and bid her farewell.
'So… this makes you my girlfriend?', he asked cheekily. 'Only if you want to be my boyfriend.', she answered him before kissing him on the cheek.
He touched his cheek where her lip had touched and smiled to himself as he saw her train move away. He too then apparated away from the station to Grimmauld Place, where he was residing. Kreacher greeted him before asking him, 'Master looks happy. Did master tell Miss Hermione about his feelings?' 'Yes, and she said yes Kreacher. She said YES.', he started dancing as he delivered the news. Kreacher left Harry to his dancing and continued about changing the place to be better for inhabitation.

Harry woke up to breakfast that Kreacher had brought to him. 'How many times have I told you Kreacher, I would come down for breakfast and eat it with you? You are getting old, my friend.' Harry said. Kreacher just smiled and popped away and popped back minutes later with his own food.
In the meantime, Harry had gotten out of bed, and had freshened up. The two friends ate their breakfast and then Harry went to shower. When he came out of the shower, he saw two letters on his study desk.
One looked like an official letter, while the other letter was Hermione's. He decided he would open Hermione's letter first which turned out to be just a piece of parchment on which was written a muggle café shop name and time to meet her which was 3 hours from now.
He then looked at the letter from a certain Frederick Blackthorn. He opened the letter and read it
Mr. H. J. Potter,
My name is Frederick Blackthorn and I am writing this letter to offer you a position in Auror Academy without the need for giving your N.E.W.T.s. Please consider my offer and accept it as it would be great for you and the wizarding world as a whole.
I await your reply by midnight.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr. Frederick H. Blackthorn
Head Auror
Halfway through the letter, Harry had his decision made up, which was no but thanks for the offer. He had already committed to Hermione that he would come back for their 7th Year with her. He quickly got to write his reply and send it to Blackthorn before getting ready for his first date with Hermione.
At exactly 11:30 a.m. he was at the café that Hermione had asked him to come to. He looked around and saw her reading a novel. He slowly walked towards her table and sat in front of her, waiting for her to realize that he was there. It took her 5 minutes to even realize that the meeting time had come and gone. She looked away from her novel at her watch. She then was about to enter the novel again when his smile caught her eye and she closed the book with a snap before asking, 'How long have you been sitting there?' and he replied, 'Too long for you notice.'
'Sorry I was reading and forgot to look at the time.', she replied while also putting the book back in her bag. 'No need to apologize, I should have told you when I arrived.', he assured her.
'So last night truly happened? It was not one of my dreams, right?' Hermione asked. 'Yes.…Wait, you dream of me asking you to be my girlfriend?', her asked her.
She just blushed not replying. 'Before, we get serious though, I want you to meet my parents. To make sure they like you.', she said. After a few moments of silence Harry asked, 'And if they don't?'.
'Don't be stupid. They already know so much about you and they never once voiced any problems about you to me.' Hermione responded.
'Alright, fine. But when?', Harry asked her.
'Not today. They are busy in setting up the house to what it used to be like. Maybe on this Saturday?', she supplied.
'Sure. Do they need any help? I can come over and help.' Harry offered.
'No, me and my parents would be enough, I think. They left most of their stuff here. They only took a few photo albums, their work documents and laptops, and a few other things. But thanks for asking.' Hermione replied.
They talked about a few more things, but mostly Hermione talked about Australia and how their wizarding community is different from Britain. When it was Harry's turn to speak, he told her of what he did daily and how he and Kreacher were working towards making Grimmauld Place better for living.
The topic soon changed to the offer Harry received. 'I got a letter from Head Auror, some Blackthorn guy. It said he is giving me an offer to attend Auror academy without the need for N.E.W.T.s. I rejected the offer though. I have promised you I would attend our 7th Year together and I plan to live up to-', but before he could continue Hermione had gotten up from her chair and hugged him. 'You idiot! You should have taken the offer. You could have become an Auror like you always wanted.', she lectured him in voice only audible to him, while hugging him.
'I could always attend next year, but I plan to get good scores in N.E.W.T.s. I don't want anyone's charity. I want everything on my own.', he said with finality in his tone. They then paid for the coffee and meal they had and went together hand in hand to Diagon Alley to get a few things from Gringotts.
After making transactions, they exited and spend the day in Muggle London, shopping, sight-seeing and eating. Harry then walked her to the same station as yesterday. And like yesterday, she kissed him goodbye on the cheek but this time the kiss was not quick. She then waved him goodbye and went her way.
Harry too returned to Grimmauld Place to find the hall squeaky clean and Kreacher asleep in his room- which was originally Regulus's Room. He closed the light of the room, before going to his bed and reading a few chapters of this school year books before drifting off to sleep on his desk.
The days couldn't have passed by quicker and before he knew it, the day of his meeting with Hermione's parents came. He dressed in his best clothes that he could find, with Kreacher and Winky worrying over him and making sure he didn't forget anything. After that, he headed to muggle London on foot. He shopped for Hermione and her parents as he saw the Dursley's do whenever they went to meet someone important.
He apparated on the front porch of Granger Residence. The house was bigger than the one he had grown up in back in Surrey. Before Harry could another proper look at the house, he was tackled by a blur of brown hair as Hermione greeted him making his gifts fall on the ground but he didn't mind. Harry returned the hug. They soon parted away and Harry collected his gifts before heading inside. He saw her parents were waiting for him in the main hall.
Hermione's Father, Dan Granger was giving him a look of 'Harm her in anyway and I'll kill you' while her mother was looking at him with a look of approval in her eyes. He was a bit uncomfortable with the looks of her father but didn't mind it as Harry knew that he was just looking out for his daughter.
Harry kept the gifts at the table before offering a handshake to Mr. Granger who returned a firm handshake back. He then turned to Mrs. Granger who ignored his hand entirely and went straight for a hug. Harry now knew where Hermione learned to give her hugs.
Before sitting, Harry gave the all the gifts to Mrs. Granger except for the one he had purchased for Hermione. While doing this, he said, 'These are for you and Mr. Granger, ma'am.'
'You didn't need to do this Harry.', Mrs. Granger told him but reluctantly accepted the gifts.
He then sat down and Hermione, sat next to him holding his hand. It was a few silent moments before Mr. Granger broke the silence, 'How did you two meet, I mean Hermione already told me but I would like to know your side of the story.' Harry retold the story of how they met on the train and how he and Ron saved her from the Troll on that fateful Halloween night but not forgetting to add the reason why she needed to be saved, 'It was partially my fault that she was there sir, had I stopped Ron none of that would have happened and for that I would like to apologize to you and Mrs. Granger. And you too Hermione.'
Hermione squeezed his hand to show him that she never once held him responsible for the incident.
He saw the expression of Mr. Granger change just for a moment but in that moment, he saw that he admired Harry's sense of responsibility and his readiness to take the blame. Mrs. Granger then went to the Kitchen and asked Hermione to come with her to help prepare the tea. Harry was left alone with Mr. Granger.
'What are your intentions with my daughter? Do you intend to harm her, or do you truly love her?', Mr. Granger asked.
'I love your daughter more than anything, Mr. Granger. I love her more than anyone in this world. If I was given a choice between my magic and Hermione, I would choose her without thinking. I would never intentionally harm her.', he answered truthfully. Mr. Granger nodded at his answer and smiled at him.
Soon, he could hear Mrs. Granger and Hermione coming from the Kitchen and he got up to help them set up the table. Though, they tried to make him sit down and act like a guest, he still helped them. After, the tea and snacks were served, Harry got up to leave but was stopped by Mrs. Granger. 'You just came, Harry. And now you want to leave, not fair. This is one of the few times we get to meet you.'
'And after Tuesday, you two would go to Hogwarts to your final year. Stay and enjoy. Please.', Mr. Granger added. Harry agreed to stay for a few hours more. The Grangers and Harry talked of his future plans and his goals. They then went to a park that was near their house. It was almost evening when they returned. Harry was then again asked to stay till dinner. He didn't want to overstay his welcome but agreed when Hermione asked him to.
After dinner, there was dessert. Then, though reluctantly the Grangers allowed Harry to leave. Before going he asked Hermione to come out with him. He then gave her a necklace he thought would look good on her. 'Do you like it?', holding his breath Harry asked her. 'It's beautiful. Would you please help me wear it?' Hermione asks. Harry obliges and after helping he admired the piece that looked even more beautiful on Hermione.
'It's lovely. Thanks Harry.', Hermione says before hugging him. 'Well, I better get back now, or Kreacher will have my hide.', Harry tells her. Hermione thinks for a moment before she holds his hand and kisses him on the lips. Harry was taken aback by this gesture, but kissed her back after overcoming his few moments of surprise.
They broke apart after what felt like an eternity. Both were out of breath but grinning madly. 'This feels different. Didn't know kissing was this good.' Harry thought out loud. They bid each other goodbye with another quick kiss on the lip.
On the next day, Harry was interrupted from his readings by an owl who delivered his letter from Hogwarts with his Head Boy's Badge. Harry quickly grabbed his coat and apparated to Hermione's house and knocked on the door.
It was Mrs. Granger who opened the door and looked ready to head out to work. 'Harry! What a pleasant surprise.' Mrs. Granger greeted him by hugging him. 'I am really sorry but I have got to go to the clinic, Dan is waiting for me. Hermione is up in her room sleeping, once she gets up tell her that food is kept in the fridge. Bye now.', she said in a hurry before going to the carpark to move out. She waved him as she drove away.
He closed the door behind him and went up the stairs to Hermione's room. He stopped in front of her room and knocked on it, then remembered that she was asleep. He opened her door and went inside.
As soon as he entered, he was attacked by a very agitated owl who looked like he had tried to wake Hermione but to no avail, and Crookshanks hissing at the poor owl didn't help. He took the load off of the owl and sent him his merry way.
He then turned back to Crookshanks and petted him while searching for his treat bowl, finding it he emptied the last box of cat treat that was in the room and let him at it.
He then turned his attention to Hermione, who despite all the commotion was sound asleep. 'She looks so cute when she sleeps.', his brain pointed out. Getting back to the task at hand, he went near her bed and tried calling her name to wake her up. That didn't work at all. He tried shaking her only to find himself being pulled onto her bed.
The force with which he fell on her made her rise up with still some sleep in her eyes. It took her a few moments of rubbing her eyes to finally realize that Harry was there with her. In her room. On her bed. 'Harry! What are you doing here?', she asked him and blushing. 'Well, I…uh…I got my Head Boy's Badge via post today and wanted to see if you got it as well.', he told her and blushing just like her.
Realizing, he was still on her bed, he quickly shot up from there and sheepishly told her that he would be waiting for her in the living room. He then closed her door and ran downstairs.
Half an hour later, Hermione came downstairs and was still blushing crazily, but Harry didn't look at her and simply told her, 'I warmed the food up for you. Eat it then we'll see your letter.' 'Sure.', she replied.
After 10 minutes of shared breakfast on Hermione's order, they sat on the couch and stared at her letter 'What if it's an apology letter telling me they found someone better than me as the Head Girl?' she asked. 'Don't be silly, if that was the case, they wouldn't have sent you a letter.', he replied but smiled at her nervousness.
As she opened the letter, something heavy fell from the envelope and fell on the ground. Hermione picked it up and screamed so loudly, her neighbors next doors must have thought she fell. 'IT'S MY BADGE!', she screamed and tackled Harry into a hug. Harry just laughed at how her nervousness turned into happiness.
It was the heat of the moment perhaps, or maybe something else entirely but Harry at that very moment decided to kiss her just as she had kissed him last night. Her screams drowned as his lips came close to hers, and as soon as their lips met, they both forgot about their badges and kissed each other senseless.
'It's a good thing, your dad isn't here', he joked after they had finished their kiss. They were both snuggled on to the couch passing by time, and talking nonsense. It felt like mere minutes passed in this position but in actuality 4 hours had passed, and it was time for the Grangers to come back to their house for lunch.
Harry and Hermione quickly got up from their position and started straightening their cloths as they heard the door open. 'Oh, Harry! You are still here. Good, Come and have lunch with us.', Mrs. Granger told the boy.
Lunch was just a lively affair in the Granger Residence as dinner. After lunch, Harry and Hermione told Mr. and Mrs. Granger about them being appointed as the Head Boy and Girl. 'We are so proud of you two.', Mr. Granger told them happily with Mrs. Granger nodding to show her agreement.
'Thank you for the kind words, Mr. Granger.', Harry told him. 'I must take your leave now. I have to have a look at all my packings and stuffs.', Harry said as he got up to leave. 'I'll see you all tomorrow morning? We'll go together to Kings Cross. If you don't mind that is.', Harry offered.
'Sure Harry. You are also welcome at our house during the holidays.', Mrs. Granger said.
Hermione had decided to drop him off this time. They shared a quick kiss before bidding their farewells. 'See you tomorrow, Hermione.' 'You too, Harry.'
With that he apparated to Gringotts to get some money to spend while he was at Hogwarts. He then went to Ron's place which was just above the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. He told Ron of the news of him and Hermione being the Head Boy and Girl of their 7th Year. They then spend their last moments together before going Harry's departure to Hogwarts as Ron was not going back, he had decided to help George with shop. After his saying his goodbyes to Ron, he apparated to Grimmauld Place, it was nighttime when he arrived. As, he entered his bedroom, he thought of the adventure that was set to meet him and smiled as he went to sleep with his last thought being of Hermione.
