A/N: Hello all, now I said I would let you know if I decided to make a Secondary Rider? Well, I have decided on one, I have already determined what their Phantom will be, power set, name, and final form. So, now it's a waiting game. I hope you will welcome the Witch's eventual partner.
This Arc is already written out and will be posted on Sunday and Tuesday. Then I'll go dark while I create the next arc. If you're following the story then you'll probably you'll get an email telling you it's up. I like that function on here.
Now without further delay, Part 2!
Willow woke up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes as her alarm clock blared annoyingly to her right. She swiftly tapped the clock, which looked like a demon with a clock in its mouth. After stretching and groaning, Willow threw off the blankets and quickly changed into her workout outfit. Despite what most people thought of her, Willow did indeed workout, waking up early every morning to do her routine before school started. After putting on a sports bra and shorts, Willow took out her twenty-pound weights and began doing her reps, mentally counting every curl she did.
After she was done with her upper body routine, Willow worked on her legs, after strapping on some weights to her ankles, she jogged in place, and then did some leg lifts. Willow panted and grunted from the effort, but she knew it was worth it in the end, she had always been a bit on the husky side, and her fathers were worried at first, believing that someone may have said something to her to make her think she wasn't perfect the way she was. But that wasn't the case, she just wanted to do it to be healthy and fit.
After she was done, Willow went and took a quick shower and changed into her uniform, all the while contemplating why anyone would do that to her locker? Granted, she wasn't the most well-liked witch, but that was before her change from the Abomination Track to the Plant Track, and from there things got better. Willow didn't seek to be popular, she was just being herself. Perhaps, that's what others liked, just Willow being Willow. But after seeing all those harsh words and drawings on her locker, as much as she hated to admit, Boscha might've been right, maybe she wasn't as popular as she thought.
I never sought out to be popular…it just happened…Did I do something to make someone angry? Or…is it just me…?
Whether Willow could see it or not, her depressed thoughts caused something to occur. Upon her chest, around her heart, a crack formed, and from the crack a purple, ethereal light poured out.
Willow shook her head and slapped the sides of her face as she looked at herself in the mirror. "That's enough of that, you have friends, Willow, so what of everyone doesn't like you. So long as I have Luz, Gus, and Amity, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks." As soon as she said these words, Willow's crack sealed itself, disappearing together with the light.
"Willow, honey, breakfast is ready!"
"Okay, Dad!" Willow responded. "Be right down!"
Willow gathered her things and headed out of her room, when she did, a small orb of blue fire appeared in her room. The orb of fire suddenly formed two slit eyes that glowed bright blue along with a thin like that acted as its lip. The fireball smiled evilly and said, "Oh, so it's your friends, is it? Good to know, Willow." The fireball snuffed itself out, Willow looked in her room, thinking she heard a voice. When she saw nothing, she shrugged.
Luz was once again shuttled to school by Eda, she was quiet the whole time, which was a first for Eda as there was usually no shortage of things for Luz to talk about. However, Luz was deep in thought, partly because she was trying to figure out who could've written the graffiti on Willow's locker. Boscha was still her prime suspect, despite the triclops witch's denial of doing it, Luz wasn't about to believe her that easily. The other big problem for her was…well…
How the heck do I get a bike? Luz thought.
It was true, she was a Kamen Rider, and she had nothing to ride. A rider needed a ride, whether it was a bike, a car, a surfboard, or a mechanical beast, Luz needed something. The Connect Ring was a good way to get around, but it wasn't useful if she needed to chase down someone. The Connect Ring allowed her to basically create a wormhole between space and time to a place that Luz knew about, if a Phantom kidnapped someone and was running off, the ring wouldn't let her get ahead of the monster, and if they got away, she wouldn't know where to teleport to.
Luz's eyes wandered to Eda's Palisman, Owlbert, as his wings flapped and took them to Hexside. The Latina remembered that her mentor said that a Palisman was awarded to a witch who completed their training, and despite her recent upgrade in magical power, Luz knew she was far from being a master witch like Eda was. So, the likelihood of her obtaining her own Palisman anytime soon was unlikely.
One problem at a time, Luz! First, we need to figure out who's messing with Willow!
Eda came to a hover and let Luz off, after saying goodbye, Luz practically ran into the school and sought out her friends. She made her way to Willow's locker and sighed in relief, whoever graffitied her locker apparently didn't strike again, but just because there was nothing written on it, didn't mean that was the end. If it was Boscha, then Luz had no doubts she was planning something worse.
"Luz?"
The Latina turned around and saw Amity standing behind her. "Oh, guess we had the same idea."
Amity nodded and limped closer. "I wanted to see if anyone came by, but when I got here, Willow's locker was untouched. Guess whoever did this figured we might be watching for them."
Luz looked around, watching as the other students talked amongst themselves, just chatting about this and that. "I still think Boscha is behind this."
"Well, I can't really disagree with that, but at the same time, Boscha's not one for sneaking around," said Amity. "If she's after you, she makes sure you know it. In a way, it's one the few things about her that's commendable."
Luz had to admit, Amity did have a point. Boscha wasn't exactly subtle with everything she was doing to their trio, messing with the three of them blatantly in front of the other students, and then there was the teacher who wanted to be used as target practice. "If I remember correctly, Principal Bump actually seemed proud of the thought that she got away with murder."
Amity began crutching down the hall, with Luz following her. "That's just the way it is for the Captain of the Banshees Grudgby team. It's not only a lot of pressure, but it comes with a lot of prestige on top of that."
"Speaking from experience, huh?"
"Yeah, although, I didn't quit because of the pressure. I thrived on it, I loved it, but then I saw what my drive to win did to others…I wasn't willing to pay that price," said Amity.
Luz gently placed her hand on Amity's right shoulder and smiled at her. "You did the right thing, no matter what anyone says. Winning at all costs only leads to losing everything."
Amity smiled as well and nodded along with Luz. As they walked, they were about to pass by the Plant Track classroom, until vines burst out of the door, turning it into splinters. Luz instinctively put herself between Amity and the vines, which had flower buds at the end that had mouths filled with razor sharp teeth at the ends. The vines snapped at any nearby student, but then started to zero in on Luz and Amity. One vine lashed at them, but Luz swiftly took out a Fire Glyph and activated it, burning the vine to ashes before it could reach them.
"Amity, run, I'll handle this!" Luz ordered.
"What?! That is not happening!" Amity argued.
Two more vines came for them, but Luz pulled out two Plant Glyph papers and slammed them onto the ground. Her own vines rose from the paper and began entangling themselves with the carnivorous vines. Another vine came at them and was about to bite Amity, but Luz used her Ice Glyph to create a sword construct. With speed and agility that Amity didn't know Luz possessed, the human girl slashed the vine swiftly in a single stroke, causing the biting head to fall to the floor and wilt. Amity blushed as she looked upon the stance of her crush, she looked so heroic in that moment.
"No one hurts my friends! I'll chop up this plant until it's a salad," Luz proclaimed.
The severed part of the vine began to wriggle, and in a splash of green fluid, two more heads popped out.
The Latina's jaw dropped upon seeing this. "Luz…you fool!"
The two heads dove for both of them, but Luz hurriedly brought Amity to the ground, making the vines smash their mouths into the locker. Amity was about to have a heart attack, as Luz was now on top of her, with both of Luz's arms on either side of her head. Titan around us, please make this stop! I'll die of overload before these vines even eat me!
"Okay, no more miss nice girl!" Luz took out another Fire Glyph paper, but this time she did something different. She called to the newly awakened magic within her and channeled it through the paper. The Glyph reacted and the paper turned into a fireball, Luz grabbed the fireball and squeezed it as she envisioned what she wanted it to become. A second later, the fireball transformed into a sword of pure fire.
Amity was shocked to see this, she was holding the flames, they weren't even hurting her hand. "Luz…"
Luz slashed at the vines again, but unlike last time, when she cut the vines, the searing heat of the fire sword burned the severed end, preventing the vine from growing more heads. The witch-in-training dove into the fray as the rest of the vines came at her, slashing at the vines as embers danced around her with each swing of her flaming sword. Luz managed to hack and slash her way into the classroom, where she saw that the vines had wrapped around all the students and even the teacher. Willow was among them, and she was close to the plant from which all the vines sprung from. The center plant had a large bulb that split into fours, revealing rows of sharpened teeth and a barbed tongue.
"WILLOW!" Luz cried.
"LUZ, HELP!" Willow yelled.
The plant monster screeched as it sensed her presence and began attacking her. Luz continued to slash her way towards the plant, narrowly dodging the vines as some managed slash at her back, legs, and arms. Gritting her teeth from the stinging pain, Luz took out another Fire Glyph paper and transformed it into another fire sword. Now dual wielding, Luz jumped as high as she could and bellowed a fierce battle cry as she stabbed the originator of the vines, the plant monster screeched in pain as it was set ablaze.
"LUZ, LOOK OUT!" Willow warned.
Luz turned around and watched as the vines that had the students and teacher released their prey and headed straight for her. However, before they could reach Luz, a purple spell circle appeared on the floor, and from it rose a robust Abomination, the vines that were heading for Luz found themselves impaling into the Abomination, but its thick sludge body was able to hold them back.
"I got your back, Luz!" Amity called out from the doorway.
Luz nodded, and with another battle cry, she plunged the swords even deeper into the monster, focusing her magic through the flames. The two swords glowed bright, and then exploded, sending Luz flying halfway across the classroom and into some desks. With the main plant dead, the rest of the vines wilted and died, once they had, Willow and Amity rushed to Luz's side. She was on the floor, cut up, soot covering her body from the explosion, and her uniform singed from the flames.
"Luz, are you alright?!" Willow asked.
"Luz, can you hear us?! LUZ?!" Amity cried. "Don't…Don't you dare leave me again!"
The Latina coughed and groaned painfully as she opened her eyes. "Estoy bien, chicas (I'm alright, girls)." Slowly, Luz sat up and hissed. "Ow, note to self, don't blow up a monster when you're at point blank range. Wow, I'm goin' to feel this all day…"
"Dammit, Luz, I'd hit you if you weren't already in pain," said Amity. "That was reckless, charging in like that! What were you thinking?!"
"S-Sorry, I just…when I saw Willow in danger, I just…acted," Luz explained.
Willow tightened her hands into fists as she looked down. "It's my fault…that plant, it was my project."
Amity looked at Willow with shock. "What? Willow, why would you make something that dangerous?!"
"I didn't!" Willow retorted. "It wasn't supposed to be that! It just became a monster and started to attack everyone! I swear! I don't know what happened to it…?"
Luz slowly stood up, hissing and moaning from the effort and wounds on her body. "Well…the important thing is, everybody's alive and well."
"You're not…" Willow's gaze was still downcast.
Luz offered her hand to Willow, making the bespectacled witch look up. "These will heal; besides, I've gotten worse just helping Eda gather trash from the beach."
"Alright…but at least let me take you to the infirmary," Willow insisted.
Luz nodded and began to walk to the infirmary, all the while, she kept her an eye on Willow, for a moment, Luz thought she saw a crack on Willow's body. As if she was made of glass, and a faint purple light came out from it. Luz's eyes went wide eyed when she saw this, her mind flashing back to the moment when she was caught in the Sabbath ritual and her body had several cracks forming all over her.
"WILLOW!" Luz exclaimed.
Willow, surprised by the seriousness in Luz's tone, stopped in her tracks and looked at her friend. "W-W-What?! What's wrong?!"
Luz was about to say something, but then the crack closed. "Uh…n-nothing…I guess…sorry. Guess the explosion rattled my brain or something."
"Okay, that's it." Amity drew a spell circle and an Abomination rose behind Luz, the sludge monster swiftly scooping up Luz into its arms. "You're not walking until the nurse says you're alright. Abomination, to the infirmary."
The Abomination groaned a "yes" and began walking.
"I'm fine, really Amity," Luz protested.
"Not hearing it, just deal with it," said Amity in a tone of finality.
Luz sighed and relinquished herself to her fate.
Willow smiled as she saw the two of them interact, Amity really did care for Luz, and it was nice to see how much Amity was changing because of Luz. Although, Amity did seem a little more protective of Luz, and Luz seemed the same way. There was no doubt such a thing would happen, especially after what happened not too long ago. Still, that didn't change the fact that, somehow, she put them in this current situation. Something went wrong, and her plant turned into a monster, nearly killing the students in her class, and nearly doing the same to her best friend and new/old friend.
I almost hurt them…
By the time lunch had started word had gotten around about what happened in the Plant Track classroom. How Willow created a killer plant that nearly devoured her class and teacher, at the same time, Luz's heroic feat was also spreading through the school. The students were giving them different looks, some gave Luz looks of respect and maybe a little admiration, but for Willow, it was looks of suspicion and whispers of her wanting revenge on whoever wrote the graffiti.
"Luz!" Gus called out as he made it to the table. "I just heard what happened, you totally saved everyone! Trying to be a Kamen Rider like Witch?"
Luz dropped her fork, "Who's Witch?! I'm not Witch!" The Latina grabbed Gus by his hood and looked him in the eyes. "Who said I was Witch?!"
Gus, to his credit, wasn't at all shocked or put off by Luz's freak out and calmly replied, "No one, kids are just saying that you're trying to be like her with what you did, you're actually starting to build up some cred."
Luz gently released Gus and chuckled nervously as she rubbed the back of her head. "Oh…yeah, I mean I really wasn't trying to be like her. I just…acted."
Willow put on a little smile. "Don't be too modest, I will admit though, that's the first time I've seen you use your Fire Glyph spell like that. Creating two sword constructs, and then making them explode. That's really impressive, Luz."
"I'm glad you think so. But, really, Willow, what happened? I'm not blaming you or anything, in fact, I'm pretty sure it was sabotage!" Luz declared as she hit her fist against the table.
"Sabotage?" Gus then gasped and asked, "You're saying the same person who did the graffiti messed with Willow's plant project?!"
Luz nodded. "Yeah, and I'm my prime suspect is Boscha."
"Luz, there's no way she could've done that, the Potions Track class was being held at the same time, and that's halfway on the other side of the campus," said Willow.
"Then maybe she got here early and snuck into the classroom?" Luz thought. "She's in the Potion Track, she might've splashed something onto your plant to make it go berserk?"
Willow shook her head at that theory. "I use a diagnostic spell on all my plants, so I know what they need before I do anything. And I did one before the plant went crazy, nothing was wrong with it."
"Okay, then, run through what happened, even the smallest detail might help," said Luz.
Willow sighed and began to explain what happened. She had entered the classroom with the rest of the Plant Track students, the teacher had instructed them to go ahead and check on their projects and tend to them before they started class. The witchling had run her diagnostic spell and it told her that the plant was a little thirsty, she reached out to grab her spray bottle, but then quickly retracted her hand when she felt something sting her.
Luz raised an eyebrow at that. "Something stung you?"
"No, not so much stung me, as much as the feeling of getting stung. I do remember it felt hot, like someone had a small fire next to it. Of course, I didn't turn my head to see what it was until after I felt the sting, but when I did look, there was nothing there," said Willow.
Willow resumed getting her spray bottle and spritzed the plant, which, at the time, was a yet to blossom bud the size of a pineapple. However, when they started to work on their project, the class was advised to use their magic to help them grow. When Willow applied her magic to the plant, that's when all hell broke loose. Her plant began to morph, changing and growing into the monster that Luz faced.
Lunch time finally ended, and everyone headed to class, Luz parted ways with her friends and decided to do a little investigation. She hated that she was going to be playing hooky from class, Luz loved learning magic, but right now she needed to find out what happened in the room. Luz found the classroom devoid of anyone, a sign was hung that said, "Scheduled for Cleanup". Luz walked inside and headed to the spot where Willow's plant once was, she looked around the room and saw the overturned bench where Willow had said she got the spray bottle from.
The Latina knelt and picked up the bottle that Willow described, it looked like an ordinary spray bottle, plastic, clear, and a regular spray nozzle. Luz glanced about the room to make sure there was nobody around, once she was sure, Luz reached into her pocket and pulled out the Connect Ring. With her left hand she pulled up the hem of her shirt just enough to show the Hand Author buckle hidden underneath. Upon doing this, Luz placed her hand over the Hand Author and activated her ring.
[Connect, Please.]
Luz pointed her hand towards the floor, opening a portal straight to her room. She grabbed the bottle and dropped into the wormhole, watching it land right on her sleeping bag. With a wave of her hand, Luz dismissed the portal and quickly put the ring back in her pocket. If there was anyone that might tell her if something was up with that bottle, it would be Eda. She couldn't risk keeping it in her backpack, if Boscha, or on the slim chance that it wasn't her and was another person, saw her with it, they might get rid of the rest of evidence.
With that accomplished, Luz inspected the bench that was turned over. Willow had mentioned feeling a stinging sensation, like she had come close to touching an open flame. Luz got the bench on its feet and inspected the surface, that's when she noticed a small burn mark on the top of it. Using her index finger, Luz dragged it across the surface to see if it was dirt or something else. She brought her index finger to her nose, and it smelt of burnt wood, and it had an ashy composition to it.
"Hmm." Luz started to concentrate, and the world around her turned black and white, and a moment after the form of Wizard appeared before her. "Mr. Soma, you said that the Phantoms would be after Gates to turn them into Phantoms. How would they go about doing this?"
"It depends on the Gate and the Phantom. Some Phantoms like to be discreet and sneaky with their tactics, inducing despair in their Gate target until it's too late. Then there are those who just go after whatever that Gate cherishes the most, while making them believe it's their fault," said Wizard.
"H-How would I know if someone is a Gate? Or if they're close to becoming a Phantom?" Luz asked.
"It might not be visible to everyone, but to you it will be. The cracks on the body will appear, like that of a mirror breaking." Wizard created an outline of human being, then a sphere behind that outline, and then a Phantom. "Phantoms are trapped within our spirits, held there by our hopes and dreams like a kind of seal. This is our Underworld. However, when enough despair is induced into the Gate, that seal gets broken, and the Phantom rampages in the Gate's Underworld." The holographic Phantom broke into the sphere and began destroying it. "Once the Gate's Underworld is completely destroyed, so too will the Gate's soul, and all that will remain is the Phantom."
Luz started to worry, she saw a crack on Willow, it was there for a moment but then disappeared. That meant her friend was a Gate, and that a Phantom was trying to turn her into one as well. An image of Willow with cracks all over her body appeared in her mind, followed up with that image of Willow shattering like glass as a monster rose to take her place. "¡Esto no puede estar pasando (This can't be happening)! ¡No a ella (Not to her)! Is there any way to stop it from happening?! Or a way for me to find out who the Phantom is?!"
Wizard lowered his head in contemplation. "So long as you can keep the Gate from giving into their despair, their Underworld will remain intact. But as far as revealing the Phantom, I'm afraid there's no easy way to do it. Most Phantoms are immune to detection spells, and their auras are well hidden by their human forms, so you couldn't even pick them out of a crowd. The best advice I can give is to keep an open mind, look at all the angles. The Phantom will want to be close when the Gate gives into despair, so chances are they will be close by."
Luz sighed, there was no way to find the Phantom, she just needed to keep a sharp eye out. And as far as Willow was concerned, all she needed to do was keep her friend's spirits high, she could do that, right?
"Thank you, Mr. Soma, I'll do that," said Luz.
The image of Wizard disappeared into embers, and slowly the world around Luz became colorful again. Armed with this new information, Luz was going to make sure that Willow did not feel despair, and hopefully, she could figure out the Phantom's identity.
