A/N: Time for review answers!
Dr. KRC PhD & OMAC001: It's going to be a slow burn for her. Like aging a fine wine.
Bia1230: Glad you like it.
Demon dark mezzo sangue: Yep, our Amity is gay panicking to the max.
WaterDragonMaverick: La Lechuza is an owl, and owls are a symbol of knowledge. For her, it only makes sense that she would seek more knowledge pertaining to something new, but she is also wise and knowledgeable enough to see a flawed system when it's presented. And yeah, La Lechuza doesn't play around, she goes straight for the kill.
UltimateAvengers: Possibly, but that won't be 'til later on. I know the show never actually shows Lilith or Amity speaking to each other and apologizing for her little cheat, so I might tackle that here down the line.
CapMorgan55: Well I have teased Skara x Willow, so that's one. But as far as polyshipping. I am not against it, as I am a fan of the harem anime genre. I know some are trash, but they're my guilty pleasure. Anyway, if you're also wondering if that's going to happen here, not likely. If anything, this is going to follow Lumity and possibly SkarLow (Skara x Willow). Maybe Boscha will be thrown in there, but like I said, I'll have to see how her character evolves as this stories goes.
Gus was hard at work in the library, he was using his investigative skills to figure out what the Phantom's goal was. But it just seemed as if it was more concerned with causing destruction and mayhem. This went against the standard of a Phantom to make people fall into despair, it was attacking at random, so who was it trying to bring despair to? If anything, its actions were more closely related to Dracula, aka Reven Darwick. That got Gus thinking, what if this was another Phantom that was taken over by its host?
With that in mind, Gus went through the library at his school. There was only so much information the school library had; the Bones Borough Library would have a wider range of information regarding past criminals. This one seemed to enjoy using lightning-based magic, so it shouldn't be that hard to narrow down a suspect among the archives. Gus looked at the clock and noticed that it was nearly lunchtime. The young illusionist gathered his papers and made his way to the cafeteria, all the while contemplating Luz's current situation and the Phantoms in general.
I wonder if they have a hierarchy? If past Kamen Rider lore suggests as such, then what Luz has been fighting are essentially the foot soldiers. Which means there might be stronger Phantoms pulling their strings, ordering them to fight. But these rogue Phantoms seem beyond their control, or rather, they let them do what they want. If that's the case, then for what reason? If the goal is to bring despair to Gates, then having a rogue Phantom could end up killing a potential Gate. Hmm, maybe La Lechuza wouldn't mind answering some quest…ions…
When Gus made it to the cafeteria, he could see that there was a small crowd gathered around their table, and on the opposite end was Boscha's group, the triclops demon looked very miffed and red in the face, with an expression bordering between embarrassment and anger. Gus walked to his table, after having push through several students to get to his seat.
Luz Lechuza spotted him and said, "Ah, Augustus, we were wondering when you would arrive."
"Yeah…I got held up with some research…" Gus sat down and looked at the other students surrounding their table. "Did I miss something?"
Willow, sporting an unamused frown, pointed her thumb at Luz Lechuza and said, "Apparently this one was challenged to a witch's duel by Boscha, and Luz won."
Gus stared wide eyed at Luz Lechuza, dread forming in his mind as he wondered if the possessing Phantom used Luz's Kamen Rider powers to do it. "O-O-Oh, exactly how did you do that?"
"A combination of glyphs, I used Light to blind her, Ice to trap her legs, Plant to trap her arms, and finally Fire to make a sword. I didn't hit her with it, I just pointed it in her face was all," Luz Lechuza explained as she took a bite out of PBJ. "Oh, this is good."
Gus released a sigh of relief, at least she did not use any of Luz's magic rings. Now that he thought about it, could she use Luz's spell rings? Luz told them that La Lechuza acts as the source of power to fuel and activate the spells, but did that also mean that she could use the rings by virtue of being the power source? Another interesting question, but with the students around them, asking such questions was impossible.
Luz Lechuza could see that the witch boy was disappointed, she noticed that disappointment was held towards their audience. No doubt the young boy had questions about her, he seemed like the curious sort from what she had seen through the human's eyes, so he must've wanted to grill her for information on Phantoms. However, with Amity Blight here, and the students, asking such questions would just reveal the human's identity as Witch. It was a shame, really, information on their kind relied heavily on speculation, but then again that was due to the fact that there wasn't many left alive to tell of them. Call it the intellectual pride of an owl, but she felt that it was a gross injustice that there was no written information on their kind. Every other creature had its information written down, so why not them?
"We have Illusion 101 after lunch, right Augustus?" Luz Lechuza asked.
"Oh, uh, yeah we do," said Gus.
"Good, then there's some notes I wanted to go over with you on the way there, ones regarding phantom images and ghostly apparitions."
Gus immediately picked up on what Luz Lechuza was talking about and was wondering if the Phantom could also read minds.
"So, Ami, are we set for our little outing after school?" Luz Lechuza asked.
"I…um…I-I don't know if that's a good idea," said Amity.
Luz Lechuza blinked. "Why not? I was looking forward to spending some time alone with you."
Amity's face went beet red, she briefly glanced at Willow who shook her head and mouthed the words "no" to her. With a semi-reluctant sigh, Amity answered, "Sorry, I need to get home. My parents need me to help them with a presentation."
Luz Lechuza sighed disappointedly, "Okay, I understand."
Amity glanced at Willow again, she saw sympathy in the Plant witch's eyes as she nodded at her, but it still stung a little that she lied to Luz, even if this wasn't the normal Luz.
The rest of the school day went without much incident, from what Amity was able to gather, Boscha was still reeling from the fact that she lost in a magic duel to Luz, a human. Even if it wasn't the real Luz, it was still impressive that she accomplished something like that. Amity chuckled when she thought back to the first time they dueled…yeah, on second thought, that wasn't a good idea. She had mixed emotions about that time.
"I'd still like a rematch at some point, just me and her, with neither of the Clawthornes involved. Just me, Luz, an arena, and our magic."
"Sounds like fun, but I'm wondering what else you might have in mind."
Amity froze at the top of the steps, down below she saw Luz, just waiting for her. "L-Luz?! W-What are you doing here?"
Luz came walking up the steps and smiled up at her, "I thought we agreed to have a little outing, just you and me?"
"W-Well, we did, but remember, I said I had some things to do at my house. So, sorry, but I need to go," said Amity as she started walking away.
Luz, instead of looking disappointed, smirked, and put on a pouty face. "Please, Ami? We don't get to hang out a lot, and I was hoping to remedy that. Let's just take a walk around, just a couple of minutes won't hurt."
Amity knew she had to resist that look, it wasn't the real Luz, it was some alternate personality brought upon by some magical mishap. Willow already warned her that this Luz might be just messing with her.
"Yes, that's right, and the smart thing to do would be to straighten that spine, furrow that brow, and say–!"
"I guess a couple of minutes won't hurt."
Inner Amity facepalmed. "Sometimes I just can't with you…"
Luz's pout quickly shifted to joy as she said, "That's my, Ami! C'mon, let's have our walk!" The Latina reached out and took Amity by the wrist and gently pulled her along.
After they walked along the path for a bit, Luz released Amity's wrist and just let her arms swing freely. Amity was holding some of her books close to her chest, her grip around them tightening as emotions started to boil inside of her.
"L-Luz!"
Luz stopped walking and asked, "Yes, Ami?"
Amity turned to her left and gave Luz a serious look. "I know you're not you, that you're a different Luz. But I want to know, all this teasing and flirting, is it because the real Luz inside you likes me?! Are you just messing with me?! Just tell me because I can't take this anymore!"
Luz cupped her chin as she studied Amity's face. There was a pregnant silence between them that just added to Amity's anxiety of this situation. Finally, Luz spoke, "Seems I was right, you do harbor some affection for her."
"So, you knew I liked Luz, and that's why you've been doing all of this?!"
"Correct."
"Why?!" Amity demanded.
Luz Lechuza walked to a nearby rock and sat down on it as she crossed her legs and arms. "I'll be honest with you, out of respect for your stature and skill. I'm not just another personality. I'm…Hmm, how to put this? I guess the term would a spirit possessing this human."
Amity dropped her books and drew a spell circle, conjuring a violet-colored fireball. "What have you done to her?!"
"Relax, Amity. Willow and Augustus aren't lying when they said she had an accident this morning, what they did not fully know is that that incident allowed me to temporarily possess Luz Noceda's body," she lied. "My time like this is ephemeral, and I simply wanted to sample a day in the life of this human girl. Oh, and I'd put that away, even though I'm currently in control, this body is still hers. If you hit me with that, you'll just hurt her."
Amity, reluctantly, released the spell and let the fireball fizzle out. "So, you're just messing around, wanting to experience life. Is that it?"
"More or less accurate."
"And how did you know that I like Luz?"
Luz Lechuza chuckled. "Unlike Luz, I'm far more observant than she is. While she may wish for a romantic encounter, it's not exactly at the forefront of her mind. So, unfortunately for you, nothing short of being blunt will get through to her. Sorry."
Amity sighed and sat down cross legged on the ground. "I don't even know if I can be with her."
"What's that now?" Luz Lechuza asked.
"My parents…my family…I'm sure you've seen what they're willing to do. You can see Luz's memories, right?" Luz Lechuza nodded. "That was just with Willow as my friend, but Luz is a human, and can only do magic through glyphs. While she has shown that she can do amazing things with them, I know that it won't live up to the standards that my mother and father have."
"I see, you fear they will reject your choice in a partner and will force you to end your relationship before it gets started." Luz Lechuza then spoke under her breath, "This I understand well, this kind despair."
"Do you…" Amity hugged her legs close to her. "Do you think it's possible for Luz to love someone like me? Even after all I've done in the past?"
The instincts of a Phantom told La Lechuza to bring this girl to despair, she couldn't tell if she was a Gate or not but doing so would tell her right away. However, something else was compelling her to go another route, one that was less Phantom in nature. "I can't speak on something I don't know. Love is not something my kind know of; I just know how to make others feel worse. However, I can assure you, that Luz Noceda does not harbor any negative thoughts towards or about you. Whether she knows it or not, she admires you. She sees you as the – ugh – 'magical girl rival/friend'. Her words, not mine."
Amity giggled at the description. "Luz would think that wouldn't she. I'm the Hecate to her Azura."
"Don't fret about it too much, personally, I think you can do better."
"Heh, my parents and Boscha might agree with you. But, for me, Luz is the one for me, I've never been more certain about anything," Amity admitted.
Luz Lechuza nodded as she hummed. "I can respect your determination, good luck then."
"Hey, why did you duel Boscha anyway?"
"Oh that? She was annoying, and uppity little things like her need to be taught their place in the world." Luz Lechuza stated.
"I'm guessing her winning so easily was due to you, I have confidence that Luz could pull off a win, but not in the time that everyone said," said Amity.
Luz Lechuza smirked. "Don't underestimate her – and if you ever tell her this, I'll deny ever saying it – she is more skilled than she gives herself credit for." It makes living in her just barely tolerable.
"I won't, a secret between you and me."
"Very good." Luz Lechuza got off the rock and dusted off her pants. "Sorry, I suppose, for the teasing earlier."
Amity rose from the ground as well and did the same. "I semi forgive you. As long as you refrain from doing that, I don't mind showing you around town."
"Hmm, very well. I won't do any more teasing."
With that settled the two girls began walking towards town, Luz Lechuza, however, wandered a little closer to Amity.
"What are you doing?"
"Are you sure you don't want to capitalize on this situation? Luz won't remember a thing, you can do whatever you want," she tempted.
Amity's face went bright red again, but she quickly shook her head and said, "I will summon my Abomination and have it restrain you all the way through town. I'll apologize to Luz later for it."
Luz Lechuza groaned. "Fine then, killjoy."
"I have been known as such," said Amity as she smirked.
Thunderbird overlooked the town of Bones Borough from atop the edge of the giant rib bone that arched towards the sky. Before she became a Phantom, she was known as Lightning Lucille, the criminal who delighted in the use of electrical based magic. She loved the power of lightning and electricity, the smell of ionized air, and the myriad of ways one could kill their victims. With enough of a shock, you can stop someone's heart, and with another shock, you can bring them back. That was one of her more interesting brands of tortures, stopping someone's heart and restarting it, making them beg for her to end their life only to deny them repeatedly.
The Emperor's Coven, however, saw to it that all her fun was ended prematurely. She started her spree when she was eighteen, and for two years she roamed around the Boiling Isles, killing and torturing unsuspecting travelers on the roads, or picking off a random person in the streets of the various towns. It was so much fun, but then then on her twentieth birthday, the infamous Lightning Lucille was captured. She was to be sentenced to petrification, as she was never given a Coven Seal. Just as well, she hated the idea of only being confined to one of the Nine Covens, she couldn't use lightning with any of those types, maybe Potions and Healing would allow her to, but not to the degree that she could do it without a seal.
But on the night of the Sabbath, she was set free, and was granted great power by merging with the Phantom within her. Now she can electrocute and destroy anything she wanted, but Witch was in the way. Part of the reason she had been lying low was because she had taken out at least three of the other Phantoms. Personally, she didn't give a flying flip about Dracula, the guy was a creep, if Witch didn't take him out, she was going to. So, on that one she rooted for the hero, but now she was in her way of having fun. Their last encounter ended up with her victory, but she knew that Witch was tougher than that.
"I see you're admiring the view, Thunderbird."
Thunderbird, Lightning Lucille, didn't bother to turn her whole body around, she merely turned her head a little to glance over her shoulder. There she saw the Phantom General, Set. He floated in the air; his red eyes fixed on her. "When I merged with Thunderbird, I learned a few things. I learned that you and the other four are the strongest of the Phantoms that were created that night. I also know that you want to induce despair in as many Gates as you can and make more of us."
"I'm glad you're well informed, but it seems you have no desire in doing that, do you?" Set asked knowingly.
Thunderbird shrugged. "If there are more of us, that means less normal people for me to have fun with. But I know this isn't a social call, I'm a rogue Phantom, and I know the dragon lady doesn't like that. Did she send you to end me or are you here to make me get to work?"
Set's muzzle showed a slight curve of a smile as he said, "On the contrary, I'm here to give you an ultimatum. You, and others like you."
"And that is?"
"You're free to do what you want. Lady Tiamat doesn't want to waste time in wrangling you all in. But in return for this freedom, you must eliminate Kamen Rider Witch. That is the condition of your freedom," said Set.
"Tch, what kind of deal is that?! There's a good chance Witch will destroy me!" Thunderbird shot back.
Set nodded his head in agreement. "Yes, there is the probability that you might meet your end at her hands, but then there's also the chance that you can win. She is not invincible, she's just like the rest of these creatures that you delight in torturing and killing."
Thunderbird turned her whole body around and flared her large blue wings, releasing sparks of electricity in a display of intimidation. "What if I say no?"
Set rubbed his chin. "Well, that is a conundrum, isn't it? I suppose…" Set thrust out his right claw, a cloud of red and black energy wrapped itself around Thunderbird, nullifying her power. "I'll just end your existence here and now. I'm sure there are other rogues who will accept this offer, and surely one of them will succeed and earn their freedom. The sad part is that it won't be you."
Thunderbird could feel her body being torn apart, the dark power of Set was working its way into every inch of her body, threatening to rend her, and wipe her existence from this world on a whim. "OKAY! OKAY! I'LL TAKE YOUR OFFER!"
Set lowered his claw and the red and black cloud disappeared.
Thunderbird shook her body, ruffling her feathers. "Tell me something, if I manage to kill her, does that mean that you'll kill all the other rogues besides me?"
"Indeed, too many of you and we'll lose potential Gates. Lady Tiamat is willing to tolerate one of you. It's just a matter of who gets to be that lucky one," Set clarified.
The avian Phantom gave a flap of her wings, raising into the air. "Alright then, guess I need to make sure I am that lucky one."
"Now you're getting it." Set raised his left claw, a cloud of his dark power appeared and in a matter of seconds produced ten small rocks. The rocks lifted off his claw and floated until they were hovering in front of Thunderbird. "Take these Ghouls with you, they're not strong, but they're obedient and good for overwhelming. These demons and witches seem to have trouble against our power, so even these foot soldiers are strong enough to at least give them a challenge."
Thunderbird grabbed the floating rocks and smirked at Set. "At least you're giving me some chance. Alright, make sure to tell the dragon lady to get my pardon ready!"
Set watched as Thunderbird rose into the air and dove towards the town below. All the while, Set chuckled. "Lady Tiamat's plan to use the rogues is brilliant. It's a win-win situation, either they kill Witch or Witch kills them."
Luz Lechuza and Amity were walking side by side in the town, the former would occasionally show a mischievous grin and stealthily reach out her hand to hold Amity's. However, a stern gaze from the witch girl put an end to that, making the possessing Phantom huff in a pouty way.
"Truly, you're no fun," said Luz Lechuza.
"I can be 'fun' when I want to be, but for now, what do you want to do?" Amity asked.
Luz Lechuza got in front of Amity and gave her a flirty smile. "I want to take you somewhere private and–!" Amity drew a spell circle in the air. "Fine, fine. I'd like to try eating one of your strange pastries."
Amity dispelled her circle and asked, "Are you sure? I remember Luz telling me that there's not that many foods she can digest here, will she be okay eating something like that?"
"Doesn't necessarily have to be something bizarre, so long as it's sweet. This girl has quite the sweet tooth and it's infectious."
"Luz does love her sweets, okay then. It shouldn't be too hard to find something interesting for you, and won't hurt Luz," said Amity.
As the two girls made their way down the road, Luz Lechuza stopped and looked towards another path. Well, that's disappointing, guess my playtime is over.
"Amity, I think it's best that we seek shelter, right now," Luz Lechuza warned.
Amity grew a bit worried and asked, "What do mean? What's wrong?"
"Let us just say I have a bad feeling…"
Suddenly, lightning started to rain down from the sky, blasting the road they were walking along. Luz Lechuza hurriedly pushed herself and Amity into the first shop with an open door, some of the bolts pieced through the building, causing the shopkeeper and the shoppers to take cover, for all the good it did them. The lightning stopped, allowing everyone time to assess what had happened. Luz Lechuza rose a bit and looked over her shoulder at the destruction that was caused, what she sensed turned out to be correct, the Phantom had returned.
"Tch, well there's goes the afternoon." Luz Lechuza looked down and asked, "Are you alright?"
Amity's immediate thought was "DO I LOOK ALRIGHT?!", because right now, Luz was on top of her. The green haired witch was as red as a goremato right now, but despite this she just had to remind herself that this wasn't Luz, it was some spirit taking control of her for the time being.
"How was there lightning on a cloudless day?!" Amity exclaimed.
"I have a few guesses…"
Screams could be heard next as several people came running down the street. Indicating that there was more going on than just the lightning strikes. Luz Lechuza's vision started to blur a bit, she shook her head to stop it, but after a moment she knew what it meant. She's waking up, that was faster than I was anticipating.
"Are you alright? And can you get off me already?!" Amity asked.
Luz Lechuza got off Amity, the other patrons seemed to have left out the backdoor, leaving only Amity and Luz behind. At this rate she might end up seeing Luz's secret, and for some reason she knew Luz was adamant about not letting Amity know her secret. She didn't know why; they were friends after all.
"I am fine…mostly…" Luz Lechuza admitted.
Another round of lightning came raining down again, forcing Amity and Luz to practically dance about to keep from getting hit. Amity drew a spell circle and told Luz Lechuza to come to her just as she started to create a barrier. However, just as Luz Lechuza was about to reach her, another lightning bolt came crashing through the ceiling and struck Amity's shield, the result created an explosion that sent Luz Lechuza flying out of the shop and threw Amity out the backdoor.
Luz Lechuza took this opportunity to duck into another shop, after making sure it was empty, she entered a spare room and closed the door behind her. Her vision was getting blurry again, and she could feel her control slipping away. "Heh…it was fun while it lasted…"
With those words, Luz Lechuza slumped against a wall and fell asleep. About ten seconds later, her eyes opened again. She rubbed her head and felt aches all over her body. "Ow, wow, what happened to me?"
"You're awake, good, you have work to do."
"La Lechuza? What am I doing in here? Wasn't I just fighting Thunderbird in the sky?" Luz asked.
Explosions from outside and made Luz go silent for a moment.
"Do you want to keep asking questions, or do you want to battle the Phantom that's wreaking mayhem?!"
"Fight the monster!"
[Driver On, Please.]
[Shabadoobi touch to henshin! Shabadoobi touch to henshin!]
"Henshin!"
[Light, Please.]
[HI~KA~RI!]
A bright light flashed from a window, and from the window burst out Kamen Rider Witch. She skillfully bounded up the sides of the walls and landed on the rooftop to see what was going on. Once she got to the edge of the roof, she saw several of the Ghouls, at least ten of them, attacking people at random, while in the sky, Thunderbird hovered and released volleys of lightning bolts in random directions.
"We'll need a plan to deal with her, you cannot just attack her directly like last time."
"That I'm aware of, and I think I might know how!" Witch was about to jump off the roof but stopped when she heard a familiar voice call out, "LUZ!" Witch looked down and saw that Amity was down there. "What's Amity doing here?! Wait, what time is it? Did I mess school?! Was I with Amity?!"
"Ugh! Short version, you were knocked out, I took control. I've been going around as you for the last eight hours, and we were having a friendly walk about town with Amity until this chaos erupted! Full details later! Also, go to her, there's something I want you try."
Witch didn't know what was going on here, but she hoped it was nothing bad. The Rider of Hope jumped down from the roof and landed a few feet away from Amity. The green haired witch paused when she saw her and cried out to the heroine, "WITCH! I NEED YOUR HELP!"
"Of course, what I can do?" Witch asked.
"My friend, Luz, the human girl! She was with me, but an attack blasted us apart and I don't know where she is," said Amity in a panic.
Witch knelt before the youngest Blight girl. "I used my magic to teleport her to a safe place, don't worry, she's fine."
A wave of relief passed over Amity, thankful that her crush was safe.
"Niña, open a portal and bring forth a magic stone."
Why? I can't make a new ring now, not with a Phantom here!
"Trust me, I have a plan."
Witch wasn't sure what was up the Phantom's sleeve, but she went with it. "Hold on, Miss Blight, I want to try something. Do you mind waiting for a moment?"
Amity gave a reluctant nod.
[Connect, Please.]
Witch opened a portal to her room back in the Owl House. The portal appeared over where she kept the pouch, Witch's hand fiddled around with the pouch until she managed to grab a magic stone, and once she had itsWitch pulled her hand out. Okay, now what?
Do as I say.
"Amity Blight, I would like your help in defeating this Phantom."
Amity was a little shocked to hear that Witch needed her assistance with a fight against the monster. "W-What?! Me?! I-I know I'm strong in magic, but my magic doesn't have any effect on them."
Witch shook her head. "No, I don't require you to fight by my side, at least in a physical sense…I want to combine your magic with mine and create a new magic ring for myself."
"WHAT?!"
WHAT?!
"Is there an echo? Just keep talking!"
Amity looked to the chaos that the Phantoms were creating down the street, and noticed that they were coming closer. "Will…Will it hurt?"
Good question, will it?
"I asked you to trust me, so trust me, Luz."
Witch's eyes widened, La Lechuza never called her by name. "No, it won't. I promise."
Again, Amity gave a reluctant nod. Witch placed the magic stone in Amity's open hand and gently closed her hand around it, the hero of hope then wrapped her hand around Amity's. Magic began to flow through their hands into the stone. A mixture of light and violet colored magic swirled about around their hands, lighting up the area and causing the Ghouls and Thunderbird to pause their destructive actions. A few seconds more and the magic surrounding their hands released a burst of energy. Witch released her hand and allowed Amity to open hers, when she did, both gasped as they laid eyes upon a new Spell Ring. The ring had the image of what looked like, an Abomination.
Witch took the ring, noting that her magic wasn't drained like it was last time. "Thank you, Amity. I've got a good feeling about this ring."
"HA-HA! Witch! You finally came out of hiding!" Thunderbird mocked. "Ready for me to beat you down like I did last time?! Just so you know, this time around, you WON'T be getting back up!"
Witch stood tall and turned around to face her enemies. "Oh, I learned my lesson, Thunderbird!" Witch took off her Light Style ring and replaced it with Plant Style.
[Plant, Please.]
[Kooooooooo~jo~!]
In a flash of green light, Witch had transformed into her mighty Plant Style form. Witch slipped on the new ring onto her right hand and reset the WizarDriver.
[Lupachi Magic Touch Go! Lupachi Magic Touch Go!]
[Abomination, Please.]
The new ring shined violet as Witch thrust her hand forward. Five rings of violet light appeared on the ground, and from them arose five large Abominations, each of them sported four sharp slit eyes, and glowing yellow pupils. Although large, they were lean in appearance, showing that they had speed as well as strength. On the outside, Witch was composed and resolute, the inside was a different story.
I JUST MADE ABOMINATIONS! I JUST MADE ABOMINATIONS! I did the same kind of magic that Amity can do! La Lechuza, was this what you were planning?!
"I had a theory and I wanted to test it, and it appears my theory was correct. Amity's strong connection to Abomination magic allowed us to forge a ring infused with the power of that magic type. You're welcome, by the way."
Amity's jaw dropped; Witch was able to summon five battle type Abominations with the new ring she created the ring that Amity helped in creating. "Those…Those came from my magic?"
Witch turned her head and said, "Yes, Amity. Thanks to you, I now have another tool in my arsenal to keep people safe! Abominations, ATTACK!"
The Abominations transformed their hands into different types of weapons, one made blade hands, another hammer hands, the third mace hands, the fourth sickle hands, and the last made extra arms for a total of six. The Abominations charged for the ten Ghouls, the Phantom minions fired their cannon arms, their energy blasts hit the creatures and splattered them all over the street and buildings. However, the Abominations quickly reformed, swirling together as they weaved their way behind the Ghouls. The Sickle and Blade Abominations slashed two Ghouls at once, causing them to shatter into pieces. The Hammer Abomination jumped into the air and came down on another with both of its hammers, smashing a Ghoul into dust. The Mace Abomination stampeded through the rest of the Ghouls, smashing them with his mace hands and sending some of them flying into the air and into the sides of the buildings.
While this was happening, Witch walked her way towards where Thunderbird was floating, passing through the battle and paying it no mind as her Abominations took care of the minions. Thunderbird growled angrily as her wings crackled with electricity, with a mighty flap of her wings, the Phantom unleashed a barrage of lightning bolts right onto Witch. The hero stood there as all the bolts struck her at once, a few sparks flew off her armor, but nothing major. Thunderbird ceased her attack, something was wrong, she barely took any damage.
"What's going on?! How did you withstand that?!"
Witch crossed her arms and said, "Simple, elemental advantage. Plant Style is an earth-based power and possesses strong defense. Using both, I decided to ground myself, allowing the lightning to pass through me and into the ground below me. In other words, you can't hurt me."
"Heh, impressive. It seems you can learn from your mistakes."
It's just your classic element advantage, typical thing in your standard RPGs.
"Of course, your brilliant idea came from one of those video games. Why am I not surprised?"
"Going to ignore that! Now, it's showtime!"
[Rubber, Please.]
Witch's body rubberized as she slammed both of her arms onto the ground, propelling herself into the air and right towards Thunderbird. The avian Phantom panicked and backed away as she unleashed more lightning bolts at her. However, her lightning attacks weren't having any affect now that Witch's body had transformed into rubber, the lightning was practically washing over her body like water. Witch thrust out her right hand, sending it flying as it grabbed Thunderbird's shoulder and reeled her in like a fish.
Thunderbird electrified her body and tried to get the Rider to release her, but it was no use as Witch came in with a left hook, nailing Thunderbird in the face. The avian Phantom was driven all the way down to the ground with Witch's fist still pressed against her face. The moment that Thunderbird hit the pavement, her hand retracted and Witch went in for another slingshot punch. Thunderbird released a powerful burst of lightning from her body, blasting the pavement and creating a huge crater for her to fly out of Witch's range.
Witch somersaulted in the air before landing on the ground without bouncing back. She turned her head back to her Abominations who just finished slaying the last of the Ghouls. "Abominations, to me!"
The Abominations dispelled their humanoid forms and gathered together to form a stream of Abomination goo, that same goo traveled to Witch as it flowed around her like water. Thunderbird decided to keep her distance from Witch as much as possible, there was no way she could get her from the air, and even if she called on her flying machine, she could just blast it out of the air like last time. Witch waved her hands and then thrust them forward, the Abomination goo heeded her unspoken command and fired off a huge chunk of itself, transforming into a large shuriken that spun rapidly towards Thunderbird.
The lightning fiend started to fly out of its path, but a quick flick of the wrist made the shuriken change directions as it aimed directly at Thunderbird and slashed her across the back, creating a shower of sparks.
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?!"
Thunderbird began flying around trying to avoid the deadly weapon, but without warning, a second Abomination Shuriken came at her from the front, she immediately pulled up, but not soon enough to get slashed across her chest as another shower of sparks flew from her body. The attack slowed her down enough for Witch to allow her to make a few hand gestures as she slashed the air with both hands. That movement made both shuriken weapons fly up high and come straight down. The two spinning buzzsaws slashed at Thunderbird's wings, slicing them off at the middle and causing the remnants to disperse into particles of dark violet light.
The wingless Thunderbird crashed down to the ground, now completely defenseless as well. Witch recalled the shuriken and had them combine with the rest of the goo. "The finale!" Witch replaced her Rubber ring with the Kick Strike ring and activated it.
[VERY NICE! KICK STRIKE! FABULOUS!]
Witch bounced upwards into the air as she extended her right leg up, that same leg stretched higher and higher until it was a good twenty feet high. The Abomination goo wound around her outstretched leg and formed around her right foot, transforming it into a giant ax blade. Green magical energy coated the ax blade as Witch brought down her foot for her Rider Ax Kick. All Thunderbird could do was watch as a giant ax blade came crashing down on her, creating an explosion of lightning and green colored fire accompanied by the sound of booming thunder that echoed through the area and rattled the windows. Witch landed back onto the ground, recalling the Abomination goo to her, with a wave of her hand she dispelled the goo and released the rubber effect on her body.
Witch saw that Amity was still around, apparently awe struck by how she used the magic of Abominations. The heroine walked up to Amity and said, "Thank you, again, for lending me your strength."
"N-No problem," said Amity with a blush. "I-I've never seen Abominations used like that before."
"Guess it's something you'll have to try yourself. I know you'll be able to do it, you're a talented witch, from what I hear."
Amity grabbed the hem of her skirt, she then looked up at Witch and said, "I know all you've done 'til now is protect us, but even then, I've been skeptical of you. But, today, I think I can trust you."
Witch's heart swelled with happiness. "I'm glad I've earned your trust." Witch turned around and used the Connect ring.
[Connect, Please.]
A magic portal opened up and Witch started to walk through it.
"Wait! What about Luz?!" Amity asked.
"She'll be here after I leave, gotta get a head start on those Emperor's Coven guys. See ya!"
With that, Witch disappeared into the portal. What Amity did not know was that Witch reappeared in the same shop she transformed in not too long ago. She ended the transformation and ran out of the shop as Luz, the young Latina ran into the street and cried out, "AMITY!"
"LUZ!" Amity replied.
Luz stopped before Amity, pretending to pant in an effort to convince the young Blight that she had just came here from far away. "I ran here from the Owl House, I think Witch sent me there! Are you alright?!"
"Yes, I am! Are…Are you back to normal?" Amity asked.
Luz genuinely raised in an eyebrow in confusion. "Um…normal? What do you mean? I know I can be weird but…?"
Amity immediately clarified. "No, no, no! Not like that! You've been, well, I think possessed? Do you remember anything from this morning?"
Luz shook her head. "Not really."
Amity sighed. "Well, guess I'll have to tell you. But first, I think we're going to need something to eat, this might take a minute."
"Good, 'cause now I'm starving from running all the way out here. I mean, jeez, couldn't Witch at least teleport me somewhere a little closer so I could check up on you?" Luz complained.
Amity giggled and led Luz away from the damaged area where they could talk. Meanwhile, on the rooftop, Set had watched the entire fight from beginning to end. His muzzle curled into a smile once again, while Witch was not defeated, another of the Rogues was dispatched, one less nuisance to deal with. With that in mind, the Chaos Bringer disappeared in a cloud of black and red smoke, gone back to report to his Mistress.
"I AM SO SORRY!"
Boscha and her crew were looking at Luz as if she had grown a second head. The human girl had just run up to them and bowed her head in apology to Boscha.
"W-What the heck are you doing?" Boscha asked.
"I was not myself yesterday! I had an accident that morning and it kind of resulted in my personality changing! Everything I said and did, I'm really sorry!" Luz apologized.
The triclops looked at Luz and then to at the students who were staring and murmuring at the scene that Luz was causing. Boscha grumbled and said, "Ugh, are you trying to embarrass me further, human?! You already beat me, just take your win and don't talk to me again!" Boscha turned her back and prepared to walk away.
"Boscha, wait, I'm not trying to embarrass you! I mean it, I wasn't myself, so it doesn't count!" Luz urged.
Boscha raised one of her eyebrows. "Doesn't count…?"
Luz saw that Boscha grasped onto that and went with it. "Y-Yeah! Like I said, it wasn't the real me in control! But now I'm back to normal, so essentially, you didn't lose to me, you just lost to nonexistent person!"
Boscha could tell that the murmurs were shifting more in her favor. "Huh, well, you did act weird yesterday. Weirder than usual, okay, I accept that you weren't you. But that doesn't mean I forgive you or anything!"
That kind of stung, but Luz decided to take her wins where she could. "Okay, that's fine." Luz watched as Bosch and her crew walked away, with the rest of the students dispersing.
"A nonexistent person? Really? That's what I am to you?"
I didn't mean it like that, La Lechuza! Besides, it's your fault for riling her up and getting in her face! I try not to antagonize for a reason!
After the battle with the Phantom, Luz was informed by Amity about what she had said and done during the nearly eight hours she was out. She gathered more information from Willow, Gus, Eda, and La Lechuza herself. Apparently, her Inner Phantom saved her by way of swapping places so that her body could heal, but in the meantime, La Lechuza saw fit to take on her daily responsibilities in order to make sure no one suspected her of being Witch.
The Inner Phantom, according to Gus, gave him some information regarding their race, enough info that he and King were starting work on a compendium of Phantoms similar to King's demon dictionaries. Luz didn't think La Lechuza would do something like that, but according to her it was for posterity, she found the lack of knowledge concerning her kind to be an insult to Phantoms, so she remedied that by telling Gus everything she was able, of course, none of it was about particular weaknesses. Her excuse being, "I have to maintain my pride as a Phantom".
But other than humiliating Boscha in a duel, which was something that she wanted to do, but not so much humiliate as prove that she was a strong witch, what she found most mortifying, was how much the Phantom was acting flirty with Amity.
"Why did you do that?" Luz asked.
"Why not? It was rather fun."
"But Amity's straight! She likes guys! Now she's going to feel super awkward around me, I know I told her I'm Bi, but still, I never hit on her or anything! I don't hit on my friends like that!"
Luz could almost feel La Lechuza roll her eyes at her. The human girl turned the corner and saw Amity walking her way, Luz ducked around the corner and drew up her hood, groaning in embarrassment. "Seems to me the only one feeling awkward is you, Niña."
"Yeah, because I don't do stuff like that!"
"Stuff like what?"
Luz yelped when she heard Amity's voice, she then jumped a couple of feet back and saw the green haired witch standing there. Amity didn't seem weirded out, nor did she seem nervous. Perhaps her Phantom was right about who was being awkward. "Hi, Amity…" Luz bowed for the second time that day. "I'm so sorry for the way I acted while I wasn't me! And I'm sorry that I…I…acted all flirty and teased you, Amity! I-I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable…"
Amity blushed a little, but to her credit she maintained her composure. "Luz, it's alright, I wasn't offended or anything. It was a bit strange, but it wasn't like you were hurting me or anything."
Luz rose and rubbed her right arm. "I just…It's just that I finally got you as a friend, and I don't want to mess that up, considering how rocky everything started between us…"
Amity winced. "Yeah…I was kind of a jerk."
"Maybe a little," Luz replied.
Amity scoffed. "Please, I know I was, you don't have to sugarcoat it. But, like I said, I wouldn't just stop being close to you over something like that. I…I want to make this work, too. And, honestly, I like having you in my life."
Luz's eyes sparkled with both tears, and if Amity wasn't mistaken, actual sparkles. The Latina threw her arms out and hugged Amity fiercely, Amity was a little shocked by the show of affection but reciprocated the hug. Once Luz had had her fill of hugging, she released Amity.
"I really am happy you're my friend, Amity," said Luz.
"I know, now, let's get to class, and I expect you to take down good, detailed notes like your other self did," said Amity as she began walking down the hall.
Luz joined Amity's side, but that did beg a question that she didn't get to ask. La Lechuza, how did you know that mixing our magic with Amity's would create a new Spell Ring?
"I didn't, as I said, it was just a theory that I wanted to test out. While I was you, I took detailed notes on each of the nine different magic types of this world. I found them each fascinating and wanted to add them to my repertoire. Or in this case, your repertoire."
So, it's possible for me to forge more rings from the others?!
"More than possible, with the creation of the Abomination Ring, this opens the door for us to create more of them."
That means I can learn Illusions, Healing, Beast Keeping, Potions, Bard, I already have Plant in Plant Style, Oracle, and Construction! I can learn all of the different tracks!
"Heh-heh, I like that excitement, pequeño polluelo (little chick). Let us see how much stronger we can become."
While this inner dialogue was going on in Luz, Amity was having one of her own.
"Well, now you know how she feels about you. So now we can forget about this romance nonsense and continue–"
I'm not giving up, Amity replied.
"Excuse me?"
You heard me; I'm not giving up. Luz considers me someone important to her, which means I have a chance.
"Oh Titan, you're delusional, and that's coming from your inner you."
Amity tightened her grip on her books. I have hope.
As they walked, the world seemed to grow gray for a moment, and Inner Amity appeared leaning next to a locker as Amity and Luz started to walk past her. "That's fine, but I'll be here waiting for the day you can't take the pain, Little Miss Perfect."
Amity glared at the apparition of her inner self before the world returned to normal, she smiled at Luz and initiated a conversation as the two of them walked to class.
