Author Note: A time traveling baby makes Hermione and Harry's fourth year a lot more problematic than even a dark lord can.

It was October 10th 1994 at dinnertime in Hogwarts castle. The students were chatting and laughing as their day wound down. The excitement of the Tri-Wizard Tournament was still building, the mystery of their Defense professor was trying to be solved, and the usual gossip of who had a crush on whom and who had been caught in a broom closet together ran around the room.

The candles and torches began to flicker suddenly as a loud whirling whine began to grow. The muggle-borns in the hall would describe the sound like a camera flash charging. A swirling glowing cloud spiraled into view growing from a small sphere in the center of the hall.

The students closest to the energy maelstrom scuttled aside to avoid the tendrils of lightning that flashed randomly outwards. One of the Hufflepuffs did not move quickly enough and was blasted across the room.

The maelstrom eventually began to die down and fade. As it did the sound of a squalling baby was heard crying loudly. As soon as the light show was over Poppy leapt across the table to reach the bassinet that had appeared. The headmaster and Minerva had walked more sedately around the table.

Picking the baby up Poppy handed a letter that had been pinned to the deep navy blue with golden snitches dancing on it blanket wrapped around the squalling bundle.

Dumbledore looked surprised and puzzled then handed the note to Minerva who pursed her lips before saying, "Mr Potter, Miss Granger, Miss Lovegood come with us please."

The whispering began in earnest as Harry and Hermione rose to follow the adults from the hall. A slender blonde joining them from the Ravenclaw students.

…..

"Professor? What does the note say?" Hermione asked as they walked swiftly behind the matron.

"It introduces the young girl and hopes that whomever finds her accepts and raises her as their own." Minerva said carefully.

"So who is she?" Hermione pressed, "And why did you ask for us?"

Dumbledore chuckled, "Ever inquisitive as always Miss Granger."

"Well yes sir." Hermione replied unsure if she was complimented or not.

"Its only logical that the note mentions the three of us." Luna pointed out.

"Yes it does Miss Lovegood and we will explain in what way it mentions the three of you once we have ascertained a few things."

Poppy had reached the hospital wing before anyone else and placed the bassinet on a table nearby the bed that she was examining the baby.

She appeared to be a healthy pink, loud, girl. She had a peach fuzz of dark black hair covering her head. The remains of an umbilical cord still attached but tied and cauterized.

"She's only a few hours old. Magical. Otherwise healthy." Poppy rapidly said as a feather struggled to keep up with her words on a piece of parchment.

Glancing at Harry and Hermione she cast a pair of other spells. The name Harry Potter floated above the girl's belly briefly before being followed by Hermione Potter. Poppy repeated the spells with the same results.

"Maternity and paternity confirmed as father, Harry Potter. Mother Hermione Potter."

Everyone other than Luna looked at the baby in shock then at the two teens.

"I haven't had a baby. I haven't even kissed boy yet." Hermione exclaimed suddenly.

Poppy smiled, "I'm sure you haven't but we need to confirm this." She said wrapping and handing the baby to Minerva who held the child carefully.

"What do I need to do?" Hermione asked in shock.

"Just stand still and relax. Poppy said soothingly.

Hermione tried to stand still as Poppy ran her wand over her from head to groin. The tip of the wand remained white to cream colored with a few glows and runes floating out of Hermione's body in a glowing umbra.

"Hermione Granger is confirmed to be virginal, fertile, and healthy. No sign of ever having been pregnant or giving birth. She has begun to explore her pleasure centers."

Hermione sighed in relief although she was blushing at the revelation.

Turning to Harry the matron said, "I'll need to repeat the process with you."

Harry nodded,"I haven't given birth either." He said with a nervous chuckle.

Poppy smiled as she ran the wand over him, "I still have to make certain. There have been some rather interesting accidents occur before."

Harry lost the nervous smirk and just looked incredibly nervous. The wand remained a slightly off white and several runes floated out of his body like it had with Hermione, only different ones Harry noticed.

"Mr Potter is confirmed to be virginal, although he does self-pleasure. He is fertile, healthy and has not been pregnant or given birth." Poppy said.

"So how can that be? If we've never. Then where did the baby come from?"Hermione demanded,

"More like from when it came?" Luna said calmly.

"When it came?" Hermione frowned.

"Isn't it obvious. If the two of you have not had sexual relations yet then the child must have come from a time when you have done so." Luna pointed out.

Hermione frowned but Dumbledore clapped his hands gently, "Well reasoned Miss Lovegood. Very well reasoned. As that is exactly what you said in your note."

"My note?" Luna took a moment to be surprised, "That explains why I was brought along, but why would I write a note about Hermione and Harry's child?"

"Because apparently you sent her backwards through time to save her life and warn us." Albus explained, "You did so because neither Harry nor Hermione could."

Hermione's eyes went wide, "Isn't this going to cause an incredible paradox?"

"Oh no doubt it already has. However the only way through is forward now." Albus said.

"Why is she still crying?" Harry asked as Minerva tried to comfort the baby.

"She's hungry and needs fed." Poppy explained taking the baby, "Miss Granger is capable of performing the task."

"Well yes. Do you have a bottle?" Hermione asked.

Poppy raised her eyebrow, "No you do. Two of them to be exact."

Hermione's mouth dropped, then she snapped it closed as she began to blush. "Oh you mean for me to. Feed the baby."

"That is the primary purpose of that part of our anatomy." Minerva stated.

"Maybe I should leave." Harry suggested.

"Yes. The ladies should be able to handle this without our assistance." Albus agreed shooing Harry towards the door.

Minerva cleared her throat, "Mr Potter and Miss Granger will need to have a rather long discussion about the ramifications of this."

Albus paused, "Oh no doubt, however now would not be the most appropriate time."

"No it would not." Minerva agreed watching the two males leave. "Miss Granger are you going to breastfeed your child or do we need to find a wet nurse?"

Hermione subconsciously cupped her breast for a moment before nodding, "Yes ma'am. I'll do it."

"Very well. You may wish to remove your brassiere as there will no doubt be a size change." Poppy said going to get a potion as Minerva held the baby.

"Do you want Miss Lovegood to leave?" Minerva asked as the blonde stood quietly beside Hermione.

Hermione looked at the girl and after a decision shook her head, "No. Apparently we become friends in the future."

"Very well." Minerva said over the loud cries of the child.

Hermione took her clothes off above the waist as the matron came back. She took the small cream colored bottle and after a slight grimace swallowed the contents.

Her breasts immediately began to swell until they had doubled in size. Small beads of white liquid formed at their dark brown tips. She felt heavy and full with a slight ache.

Minerva and Poppy explained how to hold the baby and let her nurse, which she did quickly and happily.

Hermione felt a surge of something pleasant go through her as she watched the child suckle. Felt her small warm weight against her bare chest as she sat in the chair. It was not the sort of pleasure her self explorations had caused but more like a sense of satisfaction, of happiness, of contentment.

"Miss Granger? Are you alright?" Minerva asked gently.

Hermione blinked herself out of her reverie, "Uh. Yes. I think so."

"The sensation of bonding with your child can be a bit overwhelming for the first time." Poppy said watching and carefully observing with her wand.

"Right. So what happens to us now?"

"Well according to the letter you and Mr Potter will have to name the child. That had not been done before Luna sent the child back to here."
"That would imply that Hermione and Harry could not in the future." Luna observed as she stared intently at the suckling baby.

"You are correct again. According to your note the two of them were dead. Hermione died in childbirth and Harry was killed in the war." Minerva said as she turned to the bassinet.

"What? How could that happen?" Hermione asked frowning.

"According to Luna's note she is enclosing your diary, as well as a few pictures and other mementos." Minerva explained pulling a small wrapped package out.

The baby had stopped suckling and was staring at Hermione with a sort of half open muddy green eyes.

"Now you should burp her. If you still have milk we can get some bottles for you to express them into." poppy said.

"Yes ma'am. How long will I lactate?" Hermione asked rubbing the back of the baby until a small burp was heard.

"As long as you normally would. The potion merely jump starts he process,as long as you nurse you will continue to lactate."

"Oh. I suppose that makes sense."

Minerva nodded, ":We can assign you an elf to provide you assistance."

Hermione frowned, "Ma'am. You know my feelings about the slave labor."

"Do you want to kill the elves?" Luna asked intently.

"Excuse me?" Hermione reacted to the interruption grumpily.

"The average house elf requires being bonded to a witch or wizard, or at least a magical household, or they will sicken and die. Only a rare few can actually survive being unbonded." Luna explained calmly.

"Is that true?" Hermione asked aghast.

"Yes, it is Miss Granger." Minerva confirmed.

Hermione looked perturbed, "I didn't realize that."

"You allowed your own prejudices to blind you. Not an uncommon thing to happen." Luna agreed.

Minerva transfigured Hermione's bra into a nursing bra that would fit her, then changed her blouse to fit as well. "Here are your clothes we shall give you a sling to help you carry the child."

"What about my classes?" Hermione asked worriedly as she passed the baby to Luna so she could begin to express her still full breast.

"As the child will not be able to attend the classes you may either be excused or accept the elven help." Minerva explained.

Hermione surrendered, "I'll accept the elf. But I won't abuse her or mistreat her."

"I would certainly hope not." Minerva firmly declared, correcting the way Luna was holding the child.

Luna was looking dreamily at the child with a half smile, "May I help with the nursing?"

Hermione looked at Luna then at her own enlarged bosom, "I think I should be able to provide enough."

"Oh." Luna sounded disappointed.

"I'll let you help me take care of her."

"Thank you Hermione. I would greatly enjoy that." Luna beamed her smile broadly.

"You'll need to make sure Harry is involved. Both of you will need to name the baby." Minerva pointed out.

Hermione bit her lip, "I know. How do you think he'll react?"

"The only way you will know that is to ask him." Poppy said while Minerva nodded.

Review Responses

Dennisud: yes indeed. Thank you.

OfficerDonNZ: Not a problem. Everyone is not going to like every particular tropes. I like to explore and see if I can come up with an interesting or intriguing idea or interpretation of that trope sometimes. As a sort of experiment. Kgfinkel's idea was definitely an inspiration for this. That sounds like an interesting story. Chaos indeed.

Timekeeper: that is one reason this is going to the back burner to calculate the way that would change. If its still in play for Rose or if it was never in play and Dumbledore just thought it was and so Voldemort did. This is going to take some serious tap dancing.

Starie78: Maybe someday. It has a few plot points that need figured out before we can go charging into it, along with a few things ahead of it in the queue. I'll keep it handy though.

Notpobhonestly: At some point it will probably be. Not sure when but I'll bounce from idea to idea and they will eventually get done.
