Act 15: The Light of the Galaxy Grows Dim

Only a couple of acts left on this story. Some more twists are occurring as the finale is being set!
Sailor Mars let out a large sigh of frustration. She felt like she had been here for hours and still hadn't found the object. She wondered if the others had tasks equally as challenging. As tired as she was she knew she couldn't give up. The others were counting on her.
Deimos flew over to Sailor Mars. "You can't give up yet Rei-san. You have to be getting close. I know you are equal to the task," said Deimos as he tried to encourage her.
Sailor Mars briefly smiled as she felt renewed determination to find this mystery piece. She closed her eyes and concentrated all of her energy. She felt she was being drawn to an ice structure to her right. "Fire Soul Bird!"
Sailor Saturn examined the chalice she had washed and squinted her eyes to try to have a closer look at the inscription. She was amazed at what she read. "Drink from me and you shall be reborn," she read out loud. She looked in disbelief at the object. "Can it be that simple?" She asked out loud to herself.
She dipped the chalice into the stream to collect water. She raised the cup to her lips and paused. She looked at the inscription one more time. "Here goes…" she said as her voice trailed off. As soon as she drank from the cup, her chest began to feel warm. The heart shaped brooch began to glow brighter and brighter. She felt different. She closed her eyes as she felt a new power being born.
Tuxedo Kamen arrived just in time to see Sailor Cosmos take Sailor Jupiter's starseed. He knew he was too late to help her but wanted to find a way to help everyone and especially her. He prayed he could reach her before she took any more starseeds. "Usako…" he said softly.
"Hmm?" Sailor Cosmos murmured as she turned her head to the side to acknowledge his presence. She dismissed the starseed she held in her hand and it vanished. With a wave of her fingers Sailor Jupiter received golden bracelets. She did all of this while still looking at Tuxedo Kamen.
"There is still a way to stop this," Tuxedo Kamen said as he slowly moved forward. He refused to give up on her. He knew deep down she was the person he loved.
"You want to ruin my fun?" Sailor Cosmos asked as she made a pouty face at him.
It was the same face Usagi had made at him countless times. He felt encouraged so he continued. "You can't keep taking the starseeds of the people you care about the most."
Sailor Cosmos did not respond. She continued to stare at him with unblinking eyes.
"Galaxia can help you banish Chaos. We can all help you if you let us," said Tuxedo Kamen as he was now feet from her.
Sailor Cosmos continued to stare at him with the same unblinking eyes from moments before. But this time it looked as if her lip had twitched.
"Return the starseeds Usako," said Tuxedo Kamen as he was not less than foot from her.
No one moved. They all hoped Tuxedo Kamen would be able to reach her and the nightmare would finally be over.
"Come back to us," he said softly only inches from her.
Her eyes seemed different this time. They seemed to be full of sadness.
"Come back to me…" Tuxedo Kamen's voice trailed off as he embraced her.
Sailor Cosmos gasped as she found herself caught in his embrace. After a few moments she returned the embrace and placed her arms around his lower back.
"This is too easy," said Sailor Pluto as she watched the scene play out in front of her. "Something doesn't seem right."
Sailor Cosmos' bracelet began to glow behind Tuxedo Kamen's back. Sailor Cosmos looked up at his eyes and stated, "you've always been a sucker for this girl," she said with an evil smile.
Tuxedo Kamen felt his heart sink at her words. He knew what was about to happen next.
Sailor Cosmos released energy from her bracelets at Tuxedo Kamen.
"Silent Wall!"
The energy Sailor Cosmos released was blocked by Sailor Saturn in the nick of time. Sailor Cosmos was startled by the sudden appearance of Sailor Saturn. She raised her staff to attack the new comer. All of the color drained from her face and she dropped the staff and let out a cry of pain. Her forehead began to feel hot as a crescent moon blazed above her eyes. Her fuku began to grow in length until it reached the floor. She opened her clear blue eyes and turned her attention to Tuxedo Kamen. She was dressed as Princess Serenity. "Endymion you have to hurry! Usagi is growing weaker from Chaos and I can't fend him off forever," she pleaded with him.
Everyone was shocked to see Sailor Cosmos turn into Princess Serenity. They all stood silently as they watched the scene unfold before them. They weren't sure how to act.
"You have to stop Sailor Cosmos from collecting everyone's starseeds. The more that are collected the more Chaos' power grows. You must separate Chaos from this body before it becomes too late. I don't have much time-" Princess Serenity suddenly stopped talking. Her head lowered and her shoulders slumped down. A ten pointed star reappeared over where the crescent moon was moments before. A bright gold flash of light engulfed her body and Princess Serenity's dress reverted back to Sailor Cosmos' fuku.
Sailor Uranus was being to become inpatient. She felt like she checked everything inside this vast room. She slowly retraced her steps and still found nothing. She froze when she realized a large dresser seemed out of place. The dresser was very large yet the bottom drawer did not open very far. At first she believed the drawer was stuck. She pulled at the drawer again and twisted the drawer to the side to pull the drawer off the hinges. She felt confident as she pulled out the drawer.
She reached inside the opening and her finger tips brushed against a box. She stretched as far as she could into the opening. After a few more moments of struggling she was able to grasp the box and pull it out. She took a deep breath as she held the jewelry box. Whatever was in here she felt was what had been calling her. She opened the box and was bathed in royal blue light. She picked up the pendant and her fuku began to transform.
Sailor Cosmos staggered on her feet. She looked as if she was about to fall over any second. "We are done for now. I still have plenty of time to collect your starseeds," The four senshi with golden bracelets disappeared followed by Sailor Cosmos.
"We have to plan our next move before we lose any more senshi," stated Sailor Kakyuu as she reverted back to Princess Kakyuu. The other followed suit and reverted back to their normal selves. "Our residence is not far from here."
Whatever reservations Setsuna had about the Starlights were gone. They had been extremely helpful in the past few battles on Earth. "Agreed," Setsuna said as she spoke for the group. "Proceeding forward without a plan of attack is suicide at this point."
A bright blue flash quickly placed everyone on edge again. They were really to transform again if need be. When the light dimmed Sailor Uranus stood there.
Everyone felt relief that it was a comrade returning rather than the beginning of a new battle.
Haruka sat with her hands folded in front of her as she listened to everyone give an update to herself, Setsuna and Hotaru. Rei was the only one that hadn't returned yet. She didn't display any emotion even when she learned Michiru's starseed was taken by Sailor Cosmos. Everyone sat in silence waiting for one of the three new comers to speak. "How do we get the others back on our side?" Haruka finally asked.
"If I purify the senshi they will lose their bracelets like the animates. Without those bracelets they will disappear," said Princess Kakyuu with dismay in her voice.
Haruka frowned. "So it is just like before."
"But if we defeat Sailor Cosmos we should be able to return all of the starseeds," Yaten said as he tried to be optimistic.
Taiki trying to be a realist said, "we have no guarantee it will work.
"We have to do something," Seiya said quietly as he spoke up for the first time in an hour.
A twinkle in a large pool of water caught her eye. Sailor Mars walked forward to inspect the object. She was relieved to see a red crystal with the symbol of Mars on it. "This has to be it," she said as she bent down to retrieve the object. She held it in her hands for a moment before the crystal began to grow brightly. She closed her eyes as she felt a cool breeze as the tiara on her forehead vanished. Seconds later her fuku transformed as she felt a power surging through her. She opened her eyes once more and knew she had to return to Earth quickly.
While the others threw ideas back and forth about how they could stop Chaos, Mamoru couldn't stop thinking about one of the many unanswered questions he had. "Setsuna-san, after all of the senshi received their new powers, how would they have been able to stop Chaos?"
Setsuna was taken aback by his question. After a moment she responded. "In theory, the senshi would be able to overpower her. It was a safe guard Queen Serenity developed. Unfortunately I know little about it."
"But it will be very difficult to reach her," Princess Kakyuu said to the others. "The other senshi are protecting Sailor Cosmos."
"Then it is settled," said Haruka, "we have to go through them to get to Chaos. Chaos is a threat to this galaxy and if we fail here, Chaos will become a threat to every galaxy. We have to stop it. No matter what the cost. It is our duty as senshi."
No one spoke as they considered Haruka's words. They all knew she was right, they just didn't want to admit it.
Sailor Mars felt relieved to see Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Neptune before her. She ran forward to hug them but stopped when she felt evil radiating from them. Then she noticed the golden bracelets on their wrists. "No!" She shouted at them. They didn't respond to her outburst. Then she saw her in the distance, Sailor Cosmos.
Sailor Mars felt her heart sink as she looked at her best friend. She knew she was helplessly out numbered.
"I want her starseed," said Sailor Cosmos.
The radio had been turned on when they first entered the room and was quickly forgotten during the long discussion. A beeping sound from the radio directed their attention to it as a new bulletin began. "It has been a crazy day in Juuban as another disturbance is occurring only hours after the last one. It seems to be the same group of women. Some say they look like the Sailor Senshi that have defended Earth in the past and everyone is asking where is Sailor Moon or has she become one of them?"
Nobody spoke as they all ran for the door.
Sailor Galaxia stood before the six senshi. She was amazed they hadn't tried to attack her yet. She heard footsteps behind her and turned to see seven senshi and Tuxedo Kamen rushing to the scene.
Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus and Sailor Neptune stood there silently staring at the senshi. It was as if they were waiting for something.
Sailor Cosmos broke the silence. "I want their starseeds. Attack!" The senshi followed her orders and headed to their pray.
Sailor Neptune threw the first punch of the battle at Sailor Uranus.
Since the two had sparred many times in the past Sailor Uranus knew where the punch would be and easily blocked it. "Stop this Michiru!" Sailor Uranus pleaded with her. "You have to snap out of it!"
"This is our way of fighting," said Sailor Neptune as she narrowed her eyes at Sailor Uranus.
Sailor Uranus gasped at her choice of words. One look into Sailor Neptune's eyes and she knew. Sailor Uranus dropped her arms to the side and said, "go ahead and take it. I would rather join you on the other side."
Sailor Cosmos laughed at the exchange of words. "This is getting easier and easier as senshi are giving me their starseeds!"
Sailor Pluto momentarily ignored Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury to try to talk to Sailor Uranus. "Think about your actions and what we just discussed!" She argued with her in disbelief.
"I am," responded Sailor Uranus, "but I can't fight Michiru." Sailor Uranus turned away from Sailor Pluto and began to walk towards Sailor Neptune.
Sailor Neptune raised her wrists and hesitated for a moment. "I'm glad you've seen the light," she said as golden energy erupted from the jewels.
Seconds later the energy hit Sailor Uranus and her starseed appeared. Sailor Uranus felt weak and dropped to her knees. Her wrists began to glow as the bracelets appeared on them once more. "I never thought I would be wearing these again." Sailor Uranus stood up and walked over to Sailor Neptune.
Sailor Venus and Sailor Mercury battled the three Starlights. The Sailor Starlights were hesitant with their attacks since they didn't want to hurt the two senshi. Unfortunately trying not to hurt them led the Starlights to constantly be on the defensive.
"This isn't working," said Sailor Star Maker as she blocked another attack from Sailor Venus. "We have to try and slow them down. Even if Sailor Uranus went to the other side, she had a point that we have to get through them to try and stop Sailor Cosmos." Sailor Star Maker gathered her energy and prepared an attack. "Star Gentile Uterus!"
Sailor Jupiter dodged the attack. "Sparking Wide Pressure!" Her attack put the Starlights back on the defensive. "Jupiter Coconut Cyclone!"
"Venus Rolling Heart Vibration!"
The Sailor Starlights quickly scattered to avoid their attacks.
Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus didn't want to waste any more time and tried to take their starseeds. The energy rushed at them quickly and they weren't able to avoid all of the blasts.
The senshi's attack was blocked by Sailor Kakyuu. "I will not let you take their starseeds!" She exclaimed as she used her powers to create a barrier against their attack.
While Sailor Cosmos was distracted by Sailor Uranus giving up her starseed, Sailor Galaxia used that opportunity to try and attack her. She moved closer in silence to catch her off guard.
Sailor Cosmos turned her head just in time to see the attack. She raised her staff in front of her. The crystal began to glow and dispersed Sailor Galaxia's energy in time. "You're going to have to try harder than that!" Sailor Cosmos bellowed as she gathered energy of a counter attack.
A flash of red stopped Sailor Cosmos in her tracks. She turned her attention to Tuxedo Kamen. She snickered at him. "So you want to join the battle as well? Was that your idea of an attack?" She taunted him and she readjusted her grip on her staff. "Let me show you what a really attack looks like!" Sailor Cosmos shouted as she rushed forward at him using her staff to strike him.
Tuxedo Kamen had just enough time to summon his cane to block her attack. Tuxedo Kamen was in belief that everything seemed to be falling apart so quickly. He never dreamed he would be fighting Usagi in this manner. "Open your eyes and stop this madness!" He shouted at her and he continued to block her strikes at him.
"Stop trying to ruin my fun!" Sailor Cosmos exclaimed joyfully.
Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury left their battle against Sailor Saturn and Sailor Pluto to join Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus in attacking the Sailor Starlights. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were repeating history and attacking Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn. The four moved like a well-oiled machine. This made it difficult for the Starlights and Sailor Kakyuu to attack them. The four senshi stood together for a moment.
"I don't like this," said Sailor Star Healer as she carefully watched their movements.
Sailor Star Fighter narrowed her eyes, "what are they planning?"
"Mercury Eternal Power!" The symbol of Mercury began to glow on her forehead as blue light began to gather around her body.
"Jupiter Eternal Power!" Sailor Jupiter was surrounded by emerald light while the sign of Jupiter grew brighter on her forehead.
"Venus Eternal Power!"
"Mars Eternal Power!"
All four of the senshi were now glowing. This made the other four senshi very nervous. They weren't sure what was about to happen next.
"Sailor Planet Attack!" All of the energy the senshi had built up and was released against the Sailor Starlights.
The Starlights quickly collected energy to try to block the senshi and Sailor Kakyuu added her own power but the senshi were too powerful. The four were thrown back and beaten up. The senshi slowly walked toward them.
Sailor Mars raised her wrists and bursts of golden energy erupted from the purple and green jewels. Nobody said anything. The Starlights saw everything occur in slow motion as they tried to move in front of their princess to protect her.
Sailor Kakyuu raised her rod to try to shield her but she was not quick enough. As soon as the blasts hit her she dropped her rod on the floor. It took only seconds for her starseed to appear. It floated by her for a few seconds before it began to drift away.
"No…" said Sailor Star Healer as she finally found her voice again. Tears streamed down her face at the thought of her princess disappearing again right before her eyes.
Sailor Maker turned away since the scene was too difficult for her to watch.
Sailor Star Fighter slowly made her way to Sailor Kakyuu as her body was quickly fading. She reached Sailor Kakyuu first. Sailor Star Healer and Sailor Star Maker were not far behind.
"Remember everything we discussed…" said Sailor Kakyuu as she struggled to breathe. She could feel her life slipping away from her as each second ticked by. She turned her head slightly to face Sailor Star Fighter before she spoke. "Fighter, you have to help Sailor Moon. You've started to give up and if you give up this galaxy will cease to exist. This planet will turn into what Kinmoku once was…" she gasped as her eyes closed one final time. Her body faded seconds later.
Sailor Cosmos stopped her fight against Tuxedo Kamen and Sailor Galaxia long enough to collect Sailor Kakyuu starseed. "Such a bright shine…" she murmured as she looked at the starseed she held in her hand. With a gesture from her hand the starseed vanished. "I can't use her though. It is just one less I have to collect later."
Sailor Star Fighter slowly rose to her feet with a new found determination. There was anger in her voice. "Is that all we are to you Odango? Pawns of Chaos?"
Sailor Cosmos jerked her head back slightly at her outburst. "But of course. Everyone is a pawn in Chaos' eyes. Even this body." Sailor Cosmos said with a smile.
"Things were never supposed to turn out this way," said Sailor Star Fighter as she looked her in the eyes. "Whatever happened to your plan to live happily ever after?"
"That plan died when the Starlights…no the Three Lights appeared," said Sailor Cosmos as she taunted Sailor Star Fighter.
Tuxedo Kamen stood by slightly while he observed the exchange of words. At this point he didn't care who could help her as long as someone could.
"Uranus," the symbol of Uranus floated in the air next to Sailor Uranus' out stretched hand. The symbol was consumed by wind and began to swirl around her. Her hair blew wildly as the strength of the wind increased. With a downward motion she finished her attack. "Space Turbulence!"
Sailor Saturn quickly went in front of Sailor Pluto with her glaive to block the attack. "Silent Wall!" Once the wind subsided, Sailor Saturn turned to Sailor Pluto to ask her, "what do we do?"
Sailor Pluto sighed as she began to recognize the hopelessness of the situation. "It's just like before. We are fighting Uranus and Neptune but we should be focusing on Sailor Cosmos."
"It that is what we must do than I am ready to do what must be done," said Sailor Saturn with determination in her eyes.
"You can't be serious!" Sailor Pluto shouted at her in disbelief.
"Everything will be alright," said Sailor Saturn said as she tried to reassure her. "With my new powers everything will be all right. This will give Galaxia a chance to separate Chaos from Sailor Moon and then I will end the Chaos," Sailor Saturn said as she quickly headed over to Sailor Cosmos. She charged at Sailor Cosmos with her glaive.
Sailor Cosmos ignored Sailor Star Fighter and turned her attention to the new comer that tried to fight her. "So the little girl wants to play now? I've been waiting for this moment Hotaru-chan. It's about time you began to battle me seriously." Sailor Cosmos turned her direction to the senshi that had bracelets on their wrists. "I want all of you to fall back for now. I want everyone to be able to witness the power of Chaos."
"I will stop you no matter what," said Sailor Saturn as she raised her glaive off the ground and held it high in the air.
"So you're willing to risk your life and the life of your Princess?" Sailor Cosmos asked as she carefully watched Sailor Saturn's reaction to her statement.
"Then so be it," said Sailor Saturn with resolve in her voice. She was determined to carry out her mission. "It that is what it takes to stop Chaos and protect this Earth," Sailor Saturn said as she closed her eyes as she began to collect her energy. "Saturn," she said as the symbol of her planet appeared above her glaive.
"Saturn you have to stop this!" Tuxedo Kamen shouted as he began to rush forward at her. A purple staff appeared out of nowhere and blocked his path.
"I can't let you stop her," Sailor Pluto said to him with sadness in her voice. "This is the only option we have right now."
The symbol of Saturn crackled with energy as it turned into eggplant colored ribbons. The ribbons quickly traveled downward onto her arms. "Death."
Sailor Pluto turned her attention to the Sailor Starlights that seemed to be moving in a haze after losing their Princess, "you have to move back or you will be caught in the blast as well!"
Her words finally reached the Starlights and they placed more distance between them and Sailor Saturn.
The ribbons were now surrounding all of Sailor Saturn's body as they began to create almost a barrier around her to protect herself from her own attack. "Reborn."
Galaxia held a cauldron in her hands preparing for Chaos. She hoped Sailor Saturn's gamble would pay off so it wasn't all for nothing.
Sailor Cosmos smiled and raised her wrists in front of her face. All eyes were on Sailor Saturn. The jewel on each of her wrists began to glow.
"Revolution!" Sailor Saturn said as she raised her glaive higher in the air. All she had left to do to complete her attack was place her glaive back on the ground. She never had the chance as golden energy slammed into her chest. The ribbons that were supposed to protect her began to fade as did her energy. She cried out in shock as a flower appeared in front of her chest. The flower bloomed and revealed her purple starseed.
Sailor Cosmos laughed as the starseed floated over to her. "I told you wouldn't be able to stop me. The power of Chaos is far more powerful than such a weak starseed." Sailor Cosmos stared at her starseed for a moment before it disappeared to where the others she collected earlier in the day had gone. "I think you will need these," she said. With a flick of her wrists her energy began to fill Sailor Saturn.
Sailor Saturn looked down at her wrists as bracelets began to form on them. "I'm sorry Chibi Usa-chan," Sailor Saturn murmured moments before she lost control. She reached over and picked up her glaive off the ground.
"Saturn, I want Pluto's starseed," said Sailor Cosmos in a musical voice. "After all, the Moon Princess shouldn't be without her senshi."
Sailor Saturn's eyes were downcast as she turned to face Sailor Pluto.
"How could things have become so hopeless…" said Sailor Star Healer. "Three more people lost their starseeds since this battle started."
"No," said Sailor Star Fighter, "we can't give up. Until my starseed is gone I refuse to give up!"
Sailor Pluto turned to face Tuxedo Kamen one more time. "Don't give up yet," she said. With a small smile she added, "there is always a way," Sailor Pluto rushed forward and attacked Sailor Saturn in an effort to reach Sailor Cosmos. She had to show the others it was possible to inspire hope. "Pluto," she said as she placed her staff in front of her. The symbol of her planet appeared above the garnet orb for a few seconds before it vanished into wind. Her hair began to blow as the orb grew brighter. With a circular motion she completed her attack, "Chronos Typhoon!"
With a simple gesture from her glaive Sailor Saturn blocked her attack. "Silent Wall!" Except this time she reflected the attack back at Sailor Pluto.
Sailor Pluto's eyes widened as she saw the attack return to her. It hit her hard.
"Stop this!" Tuxedo Kamen yelled as he grabbed a rose out of thin air. He was trying to find a way to help.
Sailor Cosmos rolled her eyes at him. "This will be your fate soon enough when you oppose me." The crystal on her staff glowed and Tuxedo Kamen, Sailor Galaxia and the Starlights were trapped inside a golden bubble. "That will keep you out of the way for now."
Sailor Pluto was shaken as she tried to rise to her knees. Sailor Saturn added some of her own power. The others were sealed off. It was pretty obvious what was about to happen. She didn't have the time or energy to enter the time streams to avoid what was next for her. She closed her eyes seconds before the blast hit her. A crimson starseed appeared from her chest. Seconds later she wore the same bracelets as the other senshi. Sailor Pluto rose slowly and headed over to Sailor Cosmos.
Sailor Cosmos dispersed the barrier around the others. "Only five starseeds left…" she said as her voice trailed off.
The eight stood in a straight line before Sailor Cosmos. Each of them displayed the same blank expression. They were nothing but shells of their former selves.
Sailor Cosmos broke the silence by laughing. "I want the remaining starseeds," she said. She turned her gaze to Sailor Mars. "Go ahead, Rei-chan."
Like an obedient solider, Mars clasped her hands together and pointed her index fingers as if she was about to use Fire Soul. "Mars," she said as the symbol appeared above her index fingers. The symbol quickly transformed into fire as she separated her hands. The fire began to form into several vertical columns of fire. "Snake." The flames grew larger and brighter. "Fire!" The fire quickly darted toward the senshi.
Sailor Galaxia rushed in front of Tuxedo Kamen and the Starlights and released a lot of energy. Everyone saw gold. When the light diminished they were gone.
Sailor Cosmos narrowed her eyes at the place they once stood. She was annoyed at their sudden departure. "Now or later, I will still have their starseeds."
When the light faded the Starlights were extremely confused by their surroundings. They were in a room they had never seen before. Visibility they were still on edge.
"It's okay," Tuxedo Kamen said as he shifted back to Mamoru. "We're at my apartment."
Their shoulders relaxed and some of the tension began to drift away. The Starlights reverted back to the Earth identities.
"How did we end up here?" Taiki asked as he sat down on a couch next to Mamoru.
Seiya sat down next to Galaxia. On a shelf behind Mamoru was a picture of him with Usagi. The picture was different than the one Seiya had seen at Usagi's house. She looked so happy in the picture with him. But then he thought about how miserable she felt when he was gone. He then thought about everything that happened in the past few weeks. He focused on getting his attention back to the problem at hand.
Yaten sat down next to Taiki on the couch. "Now that our Princess is gone, no one can purify Cosmos."
"Chaos is gaining more control over her," Galaxia said. "At the beginning Chaos barely had control. I've been absent a lot completing research but I believe it has finally paid off. If we can have Sailor Moon in control for a short period of time I can help her expel some part of Chaos. The only problem with this plan is that it will take time and I'm not sure how much time we have or how long Sailor Moon can remain in control."
"Then we have to bring Usako out," said Mamoru. "I'm just not sure how anymore. Last time she nearly took my starseed."
"Maybe you're trying to reach the wrong person. The Moon Princess was the last to appear," Galaxia said with a hand to her chin.
"Either way, we have to end this soon," said Taiki as he looked around the room at everyone. "We are the only ones left."
