Before the 199X incident, there was a Celestial Empire ruled by an emperor who had passed away a few months since then, leaving his wife with their soon-to-be-born offspring, accompanied by Falco of the Source star and the guardian for the royal Celestial couple, along with the viceroy Jakoh, who was somehow a man whom the emperor trusted and helped escape Raoh's unreasonable assault, not knowing what could come next.

A few months later, the empress unfortunately joined her husband as she gave birth to the gorgeous celestial twins: Lin and Lui, but that was rather considered a curse than a blessing! Now that he's entirely in charge, Jakoh told Falco that the duplicated celestial offspring will cause the heavens to split in half, and that the only way to fix that is by killing one of the babies, which was a mission Jakoh did not hesitate to assist in. In fact, he was more delighted to do so, except that he got no special powers to do the job quickly, so he commanded Falco to do it for him, choosing baby Lin to be the one having her life cut off short.

The golden general was all prepared to use his Celestial Emperor fist on the clueless toddler, until she opened her eyes and fixated them on his. Against all odds, the intention to murder has vanished off of Falco's mind as the young being had shown him love with her sparkly eyes, sweet tiny hand that was barely able to grasp his pinky finger, along with her innocence that shone upon his heart. That was when the sense of humanity in Falco's heart was brought back to him, but he couldn't let Jakoh know that he disobeyed, and so he decided to take her somewhere safe and sound under the covers. After convincing Jakoh that he accomplished the mission, he also made him believe that he was going to bury the baby somewhere safer and more secure, when in fact, what he did was sneaking her to a certain village where his uncle and aunt live, and giving her for them to raise her as their own daughter for the next few years.

On the other hand, Bat was nothing but a regular boy who had come to this world in the very same village he was in with Miss Toyo and all the other little kids who considered him their oldest brother, since she was a neighbor and a friend to his parents, who were working at the same office somewhere in one of the big cities of Japan, which resulted in the young boy to see his parents less often, but spend his time with aunt Toyo instead. In other words, Bat had all of his emotional connection towards this neighbor whom he didn't consider friendly since she "gave too many orders", but never wanted to admit that deep down, he loved and cherished her more than his own, biological parents.

And so, the two kids had had a happy fulfilling life with their pseudo families despite all the odds they have gone through so far… Except for one day that ruined, not only theirs, but everybody else's.

It was a cloudy gloomy evening, the sky was as gray as coal ashes, as if life sensed danger from the start of that fateful day. Miss Toyo had put some rice in a pot full of boiling water and turned back to a second one for curry to dump a few chopped vegetables in before putting the lid on, she picked a towel from the counter to wipe her hands and reached for the radio to turn it on. Soon enough, the door knocked, she ran to open it… it was little eleven-year-old Bat who finally got home from school. He was a whole quarter-hour late!

"Hm? What took you so long, kid? Y'know what time it is?!"

"Ugh! I got held in for cleaning the class, all by myself!"

"Oh yeah? Then Why have I heard you with the boys next door just now?"

"Jeez! Is it prohibited to say hi to them now?!" Bat yelled.

Suddenly, the radio let out a concerning tone, which caused the two to stop arguing right away, spinning their heads so fast towards it just to hear it announcing: "Missiles incoming! Evacuate your cities!".

"Not again…" Toyo said quietly yet in intense concern, "Basement! Now!" She screamed as she grabbed the kid by the wrist with one hand, the radio with the other and ran straight down the basement as quick as the two could run. The two locked the door and, for safety's sake, got down a metal table that had been there.

"Again? The basement?! What's all of this about?!" Bat was utterly confused with all the things going on around him.

"Our government's done nothing this time… What do they want from us?!" Toyo said to herself with anxiety coming through her voice.

"Answer me, auntie!" Bat yelled to snap Toyo out of her confusion.

"They're blowing up the city!… Or even worse, the whole nation…" Toyo turned the radio back on.

"Huh?... W-why?" the fear built upon Bat's body to the point where it made his face grow pale, Toyo noticed that and wrapped the young boy around her arms, trying to calm him down.

"Don't worry, kid… It'll be fine" The elderly ran her fingers through Bat's fluffy red hair and kissed his head while rocking him. She was able to feel his shivering on her torso and heavy breathing all over her chest, she didn't know how else to ease this little kid's shock.

"The radio… It stopped… So… Will our lives." Said Bat, as his lips turned blue and shook uncontrollably. As aunt Toyo noticed it, the radio was buzzing and making white noises, and at that very moment she knew… The deed's done. She covered her ears, curved down in a ball and told Bat to do the same.

One minute later, the planet's surface started to explode... Spot by spot.

Everything got wiped off of existence, lands got demolished, and so did most of the beasts and plants all over the globe. Houses got blown away like haystacks and people who didn't protect themselves vanished and melted… Nothing lasted on top of the land. Before the world wished to start a brand new peaceful life before the new century, humanity begged to differ and ruined it for no good. Those who survived by hiding in basements and shelters had to wait over a day to come out and see how much of a miserable wasteland the world has come to.

48 hours have passed, and those who survived came out of the ground like hibernating mammals after a snowy winter, adding to the vocal and physical grieving that appeared on everyone's faces. Either as wailing or just standing there, staring into the mess of broken-down buildings, melted bloating corpses of both man-and-beastkind and red dusty skies. Just like Bat, who was so lost in his own emotions and just started zoning out in the sight of this dead world. He turned around to Toyo and said in a monotone voice, which was never heard from a boy as energetic as he was known to be: "So… we're living here?"

"Of course!" Toyo yelled at the boy, then broke down with tears right away, Where else do you think we're going? It's… all the same… Hoarders everywhere." Soon after, she fell to her knees, crying on her own hands. Unfortunately, not everybody thought just like Miss Toyo, some people hoped for less damage to be in other states, especially after the day a geologist came around and checked for every ground and well in the states nearby, just to announce that there is no water left underground in the same village Bat and the old Toyo lived in, so they did their best to move out there, leaving their own children behind. Day by day, grown-ups disappeared and other than aunt Toyo and her little boy, only kids remained there, parentless and homeless, that was when she decided to have them all as her own, trying her best to offer them as much food as there was to give. Since Bat was the oldest, therefore the closest one to his teenage years, his body demanded food, but his new adoptive siblings demanded that as well, and thought to himself that if he eats the amounts that please his needs, the rest will starve. This is when the little boy's adventure plans started to kick in, but there was an obstacle: Aunt Toyo, the one who cares for him the most, how come?

"What the hell are you on about?! Go back to playing with your siblings, young man!"

"I'll let you know that if you even dare to get out of this house, you ain't NEVER coming back!"

These, or whatever sounds enough like them, were what Toyo always said to Bat whenever he mentions to her anything about leaving the village, yet that was all "sticks and stones" to him since he knows for a fact that his decision is for everyone's own good. The boy was always staying up all night waiting for anyone to pass by to pick him up and leave together, until one day, he got lucky enough to sneak out of his village when a truck full of food passed by it, and that was when his journey began.

Loud grieving and freezing shock surely were the most common but not the only two ways that humanity had reacted to such misery, because Little Lin was pretty calm about it despite the sadness. All that mattered to her then was that whom she called parents survived as well, and that the only thing that could be done for the moment is to pray for the lost souls and for a little help from the heavens above to make up for what the evil has done to ruin this world. Then came the day when the Zeed gang drove into their village. Among the lives and goods they had stolen, those gigantic monstrous men took away the only thing she had in her life in the worst way possible. That was the very first sort of horror the little girl has ever witnessed, and among anyone else to see getting slaughtered right in front her virgin eyes, it was her Godparents! Not only did she lose them, but her voice as well, from the shock of sighting such a gruesome scene that featured the only two she cared about the most. Ever since that fateful day, everyone around her had lost respect and trust for everyone else, including her, which was due to the trauma that was caused to them by the Zeed's gang attack which made them more protective and aggressive about their own property and territory, which in fact, just turned some of them slightly selfish and, for some reason, careless about the young ones' lives. Worst of all, her value got so low that she was made into a prison guard with nobody else to help her, where she had to look after those who were caught taking any village goods, or even trying to.

The next morning, the truck finally arrived at Lin's village with seeds to plant and some gasoline containers for all of the other vehicles in there. While the ride, Bat eavesdropped a few facts about the village that were mentioned by the two guys that were in the front seats; it was claimed that the village is protected by a half of the heavens for an unexplained reason, therefore it is the richest one around when it comes to food, water and energy resources, along with everything else about Lin. Which made Bat decide to stay and not to move anywhere else, but unfortunately for him, he was caught right before he made a single move, as the truck duo found this boy stranger climbing the bottom of the truck from behind, covered in some gasoline on the face, hands and some of his clothes.

"Who the hell is this little rascal?!" Said one of the men, grabbing the kid from the back of his jacket like if he were a kitten.

"Shit, you're telling me?" The other guy responded.

Bat refused to say a word.

"Tch! Doesn't matter, his looks state nothing but the fact that he's just some newbie bandit."

"At least we can do whatever we want with this one, eh?"

"H-hey! Don't even think of anything funny to apply to me!" Bat screamed at the two, pointing at the one who spoke the latest.

"Well, YOU come over here withOUT anyone's permission and then YOU still give us orders?! Get the hell outta here!"

Soon enough, many other guards noticed the noises going on and they gathered around. Lin was with them so she followed them along.

"How about we cut his hands off? Just to make sure he doesn-"

"Wait! Wait! Please, I can do anything!"

"Oh yeah? Like what?"

"..."

"That's what I thought. Boys! Throw him in the slammer!"

Later on, Bat was already in one of the large prison cells all by himself. Lin was sent to him by one of the guards that threw him in to look after him. The two got their eyes locked on one another for a few seconds, meanwhile, and as soon as Lin started reading some good intentions in his little eyes, he clenched his eyebrows in displeasure of her small face and said: "Quit staring at me, will ya?". Lin dropped her eyes in sadness and turned around.

"Hey, do they let kids look over all prisoners, or is it just you for me because I'm 'not considered a threat'?"

"..." Lin shrugged her shoulders.

"... You're not the talking type, huh?"

"..." Lin shook her head.

"Don't worry, kid! Speaking is still free!"

"..." Lin exhaled with no voice coming out of her throat. That was when Bat realized that he was being guarded by Lin, the traumatized mute child, that he heard of earlier.

A few days had passed ever since Bat got locked up in the wide empty prison cell, all by himself. Knowing that he will never be broken free out of the guards' will, he gave up on holding onto those gigantic bars that kept him in, and shoved himself way far back in one of the two back corners, waiting for any chance to get his way out of this dull and soulless place. Meanwhile, little Lin caught another crime news by her ears and had to go out to see who's next to be shoved in the prison: It was some guy in leather and a heavy cloak who tried drinking from the village's well without its people's permission. The man barely had any energy to open his eyes any wider or even moisturize his own lips to say anything, but that didn't help the villagers pity him the least bit, so they threw him in the same cell as Bat's.

"Look after him, Lin." Said a man whom the little girl accompanied as he invited the new guy over to Bat's cell. As soon as the guard left, the exhausted man begged for some water, and with no second thought, the small girl went out and got him a cold refreshing metallic cup of water to quench his thirst. But the selfish ruthless Bat ruined it all by pulling Lin by the wrist into the bars as he saw the cell keys hanging and jingling from her little belt. Thankfully for her, the mysterious man struck a point on the boy's wrist to make it cramp so hard for a dozen seconds. Bat was rolling around in pain as the man asked nicely for another cup and apologized for the mess that happened, although it was certainly not his fault. The three got to know each other and Kenshiro, the newly imprisoned man, has been informed about Lin's horrifying past, and decided to help her get her voice back by pressing a point on the back of her neck for her later to put an end to her muteness by a cry from heart. Fortunately for her, once again, the Zeed gang came back to raid the village, Zeed grabbed the girl and threatened to snap her neck.

"Ke—n!" That was Lin's cry from heart, calling her new friend who got rid of those bandits in the most brutal way and saved her life, so brutal that Bat wet himself in fear of this man's never-seen-before level of strength. Kenshiro, the successor of Hokuto Shinken, was already on a journey looking for his kidnapped fiancée, therefore, he left the village after hydrating himself and saving it, but the two young orphans decided to follow him ever since then. Those were the days that changed the paths of Lin and Bat's lives.
