Emily collected up her bags and made her way over to JJ's office. She gently knocked before sticking her head in the door.
"Hey, can I speak with you for a minute? Well you and Garcia, I just want to run something by you. But if you're busy its fine, like don't stop what you are doing if its impor-"
"Emily!" The blonde raised her voice over the rambling. "Sure shall we both go to the lair?" She said softening her interruption with a smile. At the brunettes nod she collected up her things and followed her down the hall to Garcia's office.
"Hey Pen, Emily needs to talk to us about something." JJ spoke first, aiming to avoid another nervous ramble.
"Sure thing, I was just about to power down any way." Garcia swung in her chair to face her friends as they found places to lean against her desks. "Fire away princess."
"Well you guys know my mother is an ambassador right?" Each woman's nod was paired with a sympathetic smile as they recalled the icy demeanour of the woman they had met briefly during a case, "Well she attends a lot of political galas and functions, and as her daughter, I attend a few myself. Entirely out of obligation mind you." She punctuated this with a firm stare at both blondes, as if to reinforce her well know distaste for politics. " I have to attend one in a weeks time, and this time I was thinking I could take a date so my mother has no chance to try to set me up with some affluent man." She spat the last word as if a curse for the whole gender. "Now, I could take some random stranger, but I figured it would be more fun to play it up with a friend. Hence, me asking you both if one of you could pretty please do me the favour of attending with me?'" Her volume trailed off as she lost confidence in the sanity of the plan.
"Oh pumpkin I would love nothing more than going with you as a middle finger to your mother, but I have a training school to run all next weekend, and it starts at friday lunch." Garcia lept up to hug Emily a she delivered the news, hating that she couldn't help her friend.
The brunette turned to look at her best friend, daring to hope she might be the solution.
"You know what I'm free, what the hell, lets rock a political function together!" JJ snorted at the idea of the trouble they would cause
Garcia then pulled them both in for a group hug. Demanding copious photos of everything, a full recount when they returned to work and the ability to come dress shopping with the pair.
Emily left with vague promises to Garcia, and a plan to call JJ later to go over details. Was it wrong that she was excited to go with JJ? Garcia was a close friend, but the idea of spending an evening with Jennifer on her arm made the brunette's stomach erupt in butterflies. This is the first time I've ever been excited for one of these damn things.
