Fun Fact: Despite Season 8 being known for the shippy episodes (Threads and Moebius) Valentine's Day took place almost a month before. Therefore, for Valentine's Day in 2005, Sam was still engaged to Pete.
8th Valentine's Day – February 14, 2005
Samantha Carter drove into work as disappointment sliced through her. The weather was dark, rainy, and gloomy—just like her mood. It was Valentine's Day, and she was engaged to be married, she should be deliriously happy. She should be on cloud nine. And yet, here she was, grumpy and frustrated and completely depressed.
Pete had surprised her this morning, showing up on her doorstep just as she was leaving for work and insisted she go in late. All so he could give her the Valentine's Day presents he'd bought her — a heart-shaped box of macaroons and a stuffed teddy bear the size of Texas. She internally grimaced at the gifts and smiled pleasantly as she had accepted them.
Sam glanced in the rear-view mirror at the stuffed monstrosity. Pete had insisted she take it to work; had gone as far as to buckle it into the back seat of her Volvo. She'd gotten tired of arguing with him, so she'd relented.
She'd finally gotten him to get in his car and move so she could pull out of her driveway by kissing him quickly and promising to see him tonight. But deep down, she just wanted to scream in frustration. It seemed like her fiancé didn't know her. At all.
Sam was still simmering when she entered her lab an hour late. Flipping on the light, she tossed her coat onto a nearby chair and turned toward her latest experiment.
There sitting on the table was her favorite chocolate bar and a cup of blue Jell-o. A note was propped up next to her favorite dessert.
Happy Valentine's Day Carter. I hope you get everything you want. You deserve it. —J
Jack hadn't forgotten. She couldn't believe it. After this past year they seemed to have drifted apart. Even though she'd gotten engaged to someone else, after everything that had happened between them, Jack still cared enough to give her a present on Valentine's Day.
Sam's eyes filled with tears. Her favorite chocolate bar and blue Jell-o. Of course, he knew what she liked. They'd served together for years. Was it too much to expect her own fiancé to know her just as well? To know that she hated macaroons and wasn't fond of oversized stuffed animals?
With a sigh, Sam picked up the chocolate bar and inhaled its sweet scent before taking a bite. Wiping the tears from her eyes, she sadly sighed before turning toward her experiment and went to work.
