An Assignment At Stop-X, Skyllia
Casnar and Braith made it between the tables, in and out the other end of the bar—waving briefly at a flabbergasted Chelse whom grinned like a Cheshire cat smack dab a split second overdue, moreover thumping the countertop with her palm and rag, "…I knew it!" she called out behind them. Braith proceeded up the steps after Casnar, by way of the posterior egress toward the overlying demesne at the disposal of vacationer occupation.
"Keep up," he cuffed her midriff with his mitt at the same time he reduced speed barely enough to allow her to draw level to him, and then they legged it to the other side of the hotel site wherein bungalows cropped.
Jogging throughout the arcs of lane uniting cabins, Casnar guided her toward the one he had kipped inside a little while back this dawn and was about to settle up and leave—providing that Thane in any way appeared when he was expected to…Braith was yet on his trail by not many yards, and he threw open the entry door following unlocking it. He close to tumbled across the doorsill, "…Gii'mo (Shit)," he hissed.
Thane's industry was present the whole of the kitchenette's floor, the walls, the plafond…The mephitis had struck him before anything else, anyhow.
Casnar pirouetted, crashing the entrance panel tremendously on its mount, "…On second thought, this isn't my suite." Where is Thane, he thought wildly.
Braith waited in back of him, studying Casnar. "What's the matter," she inquired, "…You don't recollect where you're staying?"
"Uh, sure I do," Casnar pivoted, cussing inside his head, "…Definitely not here though." Where is Thane! Accompanied by a snigger, she slipped her hands upwards his shirt, on top of his chest, and towed him to look onto her anew, Casnar well-nigh clearing out of his scales just after whatever person should put in an appearance beyond her but Thane.
Having materialized more or less out of the happening, Thane looked to be of a mind to depart from Skyllia.
He sealed his eyeballs onto Braith's during the time that she pinned him, never quitting her intent look—considering he fretted she might detect Thane at the rear, furthermore freak out seeing that he nearly had done so.
"Where's your suite, Casnar," she breathed beneath her sigh, steaming onward to conduct her mouth toward his.
Thane united his palpebrae, sinking his jaw at the same time that he unhurriedly waggled his head…Casnar tamped his puss into hers, moreover snogging her, his digits plucking her waistline plus the alternative her upper limb to stay her front onto him, frantic to intercept any turn around—what's more, her beholding Thane. Outside of this, she had articulated his name…besides materializing gorgeously off her tongue, Casnar recognized her peril.
Thane's Stygian optics averred they may possibly effectuate a fitting quietus for the sake of secrecy—in the near future—concerning her.
Casnar smooched her sedulously in the midst of the housing, persisting in the company of the lady and her ingratiation with his "eagerness"…bearing her securely to him while shivering his head of rounded ridges, endeavoring to affect a no-nonsense ardor…His eyes could conceivably mirror Thane—who was pulling out sable gloves from pockets behind him…Casnar positioned Braith's head of jet black hair between them, his unique eye ridges casting shadows over each, his stare fastened to Thane's during those seconds he brushed lips with Braith's and perceiving the savor of her embouchure while stroking her in addition to waving side to side his free mitt with truncated jerks so as to ward off the messenger…Inhibiting Braith from coming out of the "kissing club" and focusing upon his organs of sight (perhaps glimpsing fatally the echo of Thane Krios in his emerald eyes ahead of her dispatch), Casnar obscured such reasonably enough using his own palpebrae to conceal the spectre of his kinsman.
Thane halted his soundless approach, glaring with pique toward Casnar.
Casnar sang within the bounds of unspoken Drellsong—just as Thane recommenced extension from his form, gloved palms seeking acquisition of the exquisite skull, (:…Don't do it!:)
"Mmmph!—What the hell was that," Braith cracked the seal of their lips, peering up toward his hooded eyes…Her senses gathered around…assessing outward…She was "connate"—a biotic—except her gift was diversely acuminated. As select weapons were designed in favor of punch, more in furtherance of substantial sufferance and bangarang, a small number were purposed particularly for the sake of covertness and searching where the naked eye, unaided, could not see…
Someone's here…and ergo she was apprised.
"Nothing," Casnar pinched her chin, possessing her face with his gaze fixed on her eyes, and dreamily murmured as he moved to chain their mouths with each other again, "…Just—excited to—be feeling—your mouth—with mine," he pushed out a trill—exhorting Thane a second time, "…Gods," Casnar fluttered his hand adamantly on the other side of her back while laying the hand briefly on her scapula, over and over, "…you taste—divinely."
Braith screwed up her eyebrows in alarm—notwithstanding the immediate menace, he seemed on the level…plus he started to taste like caramel. "Mmmm," she hollowed her palm alongside his ridge following his jawline, giving a lewd suckle to his bottom gold lip, "…you do…too."
At Casnar's whimper, Thane dropped his palpebrae jointly in the company of distaste. Casnar's fist shaped an uncivil gesture—a hooked thumb to tell Thane plainly Get Lost!—hitherto clamping his fingers onto her packed bottom in one fluid helical of motion, hefting her cheek. "Ow," Braith pulled away, frowning ahead of releasing an unconcerned giggle while she cradled his neck in her arms, "…Not so hard, okay?"
He gazed deeply in her eyes, smiling devilishly, "…Maybe I should go to the concierge, sort out my room dilemma, new key—or two," he tacked on with a prurient wink, "…Sweetheart bed and all."
"I thought Drell had perfect memories," she tapped his nose with her fingertip, braced at present via her forearms on his large chest, "…You forgot?"
"Today I did," he clutched her face with both hands, bussing her—arresting Braith from turning and clapping eyes on Thane as she had been about to effectuate, "…Must have been this gorgeous—Human—I met," he wet her lips, producing a sigh, "…Made me forget the world."
Above her temple, Casnar cracked an eye at Thane, swiveling his pupil right to inform the drell to leave in that direction.
Thane rotated with a smolder enclosed by his stare, noiselessly departing between the bungalows.
Braith drew from Casnar, capturing his eyes with hers, and in a detached voice, "…Your friend's been behind me all this time, where's he going now." Casnar's tebris lightened, simultaneously shrinking into his neck and jawline. Thane's tread came to an end as he pivoted to catch her looking fixedly at himself from Casnar's troubled mien, "…Biotic, too," she went on to say, leveling a pair of fingers toward her eyes and closing these side by side to aim at Thane, "…Hard to hide from a connate like me."
Thane stood within the walk in the middle of bungalows, eyeballing her eyeballing him, each one of them silent. Casnar stared—starting with her profile—toward Thane.
(:Don't…She's not a threat!:)
Braith glanced one eye toward Casnar's tebris, the alternative on Thane.
It occurred faster than any Human they had seen discharging what she pulled off…
She yanked Casnar from the doorway, innate energy galvanized in the course of prostrating him under the nose of Thane—who hurdled over his sprawling brother-in-law, his biotics triggered…Not by his personal execution, however…
"Together Born"—Connates, an alternative term, were able to perceive and govern separate biotic forces near them, making them formidable adversaries…Most were destroyed in the time of tests conducted after biotics were first uncovered among the number of Humans affected by accidental "Eezo" exposures on Earth—as well as abroad…Be that as it may, their kindred held out, but bear in mind they were fewer and far between…Braith's comprising such a quality the reason Captains David Anderson and Poul Gowitze needed her as an addition to their crews on the Normandy and Little Bastard, respectively. She could be the consummate squadmember beneficial to their stealth operations…
Her "gift", too, happened to be why she was able to have a hand in Kaidan's energy manifest during his biotic waterskiing tryout…
Connates must have the ability to overpower or unite with others' gifts, Casnar surmised, witnessing the spectacle with near incredulity, …High level…Must be explored…
His stare sought the lady controlling Thane, bending him toward the lane's surface…
Now is not the time but such a one will, without a doubt, be exploited by groups intent on possessing such a gem for personal gain…
Braith's hair was on end—energy bonded to Thane's, she captivated and extracted it from him. A field of violaceous quality flared about them—in the air, above Casnar's supine form.
Thane presently grasped all that Connate stood for…
As one…intrinsically…integrated…Being merged in the company of another, especially as concerns biotic forces…Inside his head, he was able to make out the "connate" wreathing out of her, stifling his own power in such a way he had at no time come up against nor even insignificantly encountered before, and hauling him downward like a cobble into the Encompassing…He drained himself doing his utmost to oppose her—all the same, to no avail…Fighting for breath as though he were going under with Irikah, drawing him straight into her aqueous embrace at the depths of the ocean floor…
"Just breathe," he heard someone say…Is it she?…The demon on the other side of this plight? he asked himself, …Or could it be…It couldn't be my beloved Irikah…Thane threw wide his eyes and clenched his jaw…She is drawing on her spirit in my memory…The demon must be stopped…Abomination, leave my mind!
He could feel her, he was able to feel her…and suddenly, he was overwhelmed, …This Connate is standing in my mind…She is able to see—
…Irikah on the floor, her body like paper, torn and ruined, stained by blood…Kolyat kneeling under the table, clutching her curled fingers…
"Au (No!)" Kolyat pries at my fingers, clawing his small pads over my wrists…
Kolyat, "….Akra kaera oika (I hate you)!"
Thane wrenched his head up violently, bolting his black as pitch eyes on the woman's beyond Casnar's legs, "…That was unwise."
Braith's stare disclosed no penitence…Furthermore, she was still bridged into him, funneling his memories, his most ardent emotions, his recent victims…
…His mission…
…Thane shut off his power, little understanding how, but all he felt was…
Fury.
Braith fluttered her eyes—she was shut out…How?…Grasping after his energy and her power diminished, Thane was by that time backpedaling her as he straightened and came.
He seized her neck, moving her through walking, dancing her feet—minus a sandal—rearwards on top of the stoop before the bungalow, driving her straight into the door, "…What you saw," he scraped out ferociously, "…means nothing to me," he gripped her throat while she scrabbled at his exposed digits, damaging skin together with scale under her fingernails, "…What you saw—"
"I saw a child…A female, murdered—" He crashed her into the panel, shuddering the surround with his hoist in addition to return of her physique upon the timbers, not making use of his power to aid him. Braith grimaced, furthermore cracking open her eyes…She could recognize hazel prisms on the other side of his dusky optics. "I know you've killed people," she bit out, fighting to breathe, catching sight of Casnar—gaping at them, gaining his legs to intervene, "…I won't tell…"
Thane glanced downward at the entrance hilt below their right, and with his other hand, he turned it to discover it was unlocked.
The door opened—he bearing her long enough to be confident she would stand upright unassisted…At that point put a boot into her sternum, propelling her backward into the house, then banging the door shut and securing it once more with a duplicate key.
Braith landed on her back, sat up briskly and achieved her feet…Then she caught her breath, gaping at the sight of the kitchenette.
Thane could nearly envisage her reaction to the bungalow's secret, satisfied to have put one over on the woman. To Casnar, he said, "…Vr'ineetie (Time to go)."
Casnar delayed, fixated on the door and giving ear to the thumps the other side. "Ona bou yeta livishay (She's going to be pissed)," he said under his breath, stung that he had to do a disappearing act…What's more, it seemed like he had found a soul mate.
He jogged after Thane, catching up while the drell conducted them into and out of the back alleys, and decelerated when they closed in on the overpeopled demesne, making course toward the tavern with expeditious strides.
Braith circled and slumped to the floor, burying her face in her fists…The pair of corpses were positioned linked to a chair, their remnants resting on tiles, fur snarled in lifeblood, dermis showing, bones exposed in the vicinity of the hands and feet. "Fuck me," she let fall her clenched hands, looked vacantly on the gore and ichor upon herself and set about rubbing off her skin, kecking from the vapors.
gii'mo: "shit" or "feces" in Rakhïk Drell language — used to express anger, surprise, or disgust.
tebris: the movable pigmented skin and spines (rhakhis) arranged radially below and behind a drell or drellahna's jaw, housing a syrinx and such vocal structures that enable the species to speak both words and "Silent Song" (vibrations and sounds created by the membrana tympaniformus and pessulus at the end of the trachea, between forks of bronchi tubes).
