Here's another chapter! Thank you all for the reviews! Enjoy the new content (finally)!
Danielle snuggled in closer to the warm chest as she squeezed her eyes tightly shut. For a moment she forgot about everything that had gone wrong.
For a moment, she laid there on her husband's chest as she thought about their baby.
And then it hit her.
Her eyes fluttered open and landed on Jax's sleeping face. He looked so peaceful that Danielle temporarily felt butterflies. She was tempted to curl up closer to him and go back to sleep, but she knew she shouldn't.
As Danielle attempted to shimmy back into her jeans with her back turned towards Jax, she failed to realize that the once sleeping man was now watching her.
"Mhm," Jax spoke up-startling the woman. "That's a perfect sight to wake up to."
Danielle jumped and her face immediately turned red as she spun around towards Jax.
"Nothing you haven't seen before," she attempted to joke as she finished zipping up her jeans and tried to play off her embarrassment.
Jax patted a spot on the bed next to him- silently instructing her to sit next to him as he rose to a sitting position as well.
"What's the plan, Dani?" Jax asked as she slowly joined him on the bed.
"I have no idea." Danielle answered honestly as she fought back the desire to cry.
She wasn't going to cry night now. She was so tired of crying.
"I don't want to stay with him. I don't know what I'm going to do."
"You can stay here until you figure shit out." Jax offered earnestly. "I haven't been staying here lately. You could have my room until you get something lined out."
"Are you staying at your house?"
"Nah. Mom's not done with it yet." the man replied.
"Oh," Danielle spoke slowly. "Are you staying at Tara's house?"
"Yeah," Jax answered honestly as his eyes looked intently at the woman beside him.
Danielle's cheeks nodded sheepishly, but knowingly at his answer.
"Well, I can't say I'm surprised. I kind of figured you two would end up back together when I saw that she was back in town."
The two sat in silence for a moment before the woman spoke again.
"I'm sorry for touching on you last night," Danielle stated. And she truly meant it. She was filled with guilt and remorse. Here she was sobbing all night over her cheating husband, and then snuggling against a man who had his own girlfriend (and wife).
"Nothing to apologize for, darlin'," Jax stated as he lighted a cigarette.
Danielle nodded and stared directly ahead of her as a bitterness rose up in her throat.
"I appreciate the offer, but I don't think I should stay here. If word got back to my office, I'd end up being single, homeless, and unemployed."
Jax frowned as he continued to look over Danielle.
"Well, the offer stands. Whatever you decide to do, you're welcome here."
Danielle threw her clothes in a suitcase as she attempted to quickly pack her stuff.
She wanted to be gone before David came home. She wasn't ready to see him. But, she knew that when he returned to find her stuff gone, he would come looking for her.
She just needed time. She needed to be alone. She needed to think about whether or not their marriage was salvageable. And right now, she didn't know. All she could think about was the moment that she saw her husband's face emerge from between Stahl's legs.
Danielle made reservations to stay at a hotel for the next week as she gathered her thoughts and decided where to go from there.
She took the time to clean her face, put in her contacts, apply some makeup, and fix her hair. It was the first time she had fixed herself up in what seemed like forever.
She continued packing up her necessities until her bag was fully loaded. She took one last look around her home and let out a deep sigh before grabbing her purse and walking out.
She knew she would be hearing from David tonight.
As Danielle peered out of her hotel window at the darkened parking lot, she looked down occasionally to see her empty phone screen.
David had yet to call or send any texts.
He probably hasn't been home. He probably spent the whole night with her in the office and then just stayed there until his shift started.
Danielle's blood boiled in anger.
Was Stahl better than her? She wondered if the older woman had managed to satisfy her husband in a way that Danielle obviously seemed to lack.
Danielle shook her head—halfway hoping that the action would shake out the memories of seeing her husband making love to another woman.
The woman had walked into the vacant room with as much optimism as she could muster up. She had convinced herself that the time alone would do her mind well. However, She quickly realized that the quiet room only made her thoughts seem so much louder.
Danielle laid on her bed and cried silently for what seemed like hours as she contemplated what had happened and what she planned on doing. Her head ached. Her entire face was swollen. The complementary box of tissues by her bed was becoming empty quickly.
The obnoxious ringing of her phone caused her to gasp- half out of fear and half out of anxiousness.
Her hands shook as she opened the phone.
"H-Hello" she stuttered as her nerves overtook her.
"Where are you?" David's voice seemed filled with concern as he spoke through the phone, but Danielle couldn't say she truly believed him.
Had he truly cared for her at all, she wouldn't be in a hotel room right now. She'd be with her husband, in their home, grieving their miscarriage together.
"I'm at the Drury Inn," Danielle was surprised by how collected and calm she sounded. "Room 206."
As soon as the last syllable left her lips, the woman hung up the phone. She knew he would be headed her way. She looked out her window and waited as her heart came to terms with what was about to transpire.
As she opened the door, her heart fell through her chest. There was her husband looking back at her from the other side of the door.
Danielle opened the door wider to let David in.
She silently prayed that God would help her through the next few moments.
"Are you gonna tell me why our bedroom looks like you did a pod toss, and why you're camping out in a hotel room?" David asked softly, though he feared that he already knew the answer.
Honestly this was the first real conversation they'd had since she lost the baby.
"I know, David." Danielle crossed her arms as she spoke.
"You know what?" David asked. But Danielle could tell that he knew exactly what she was talking about.
"I know," Danielle paused as she stirred up enough strength to say the next words. "I know about you and Stahl sleeping together."
"What?" Shock and fear spread over David's face as he began denying the accusation.
"David," Tears began to form in her eyes. "Please."
The two stood in silence staring at each other. Neither knew the right words to say.
"I am so sorry," David began to say.
"Sorry?" Danielle cut him off. "You slept with another woman, and 'sorry' is supposed to fix that?"
She was becoming angrier by the moment.
"Danielle—"
"I can't even look at you right now," Danielle stated in anger. She turned away—not wanting him to see her tears.
"It was a mistake," David's voice cracked. "After the baby I just couldn't handle—"
"You just couldn't handle it, huh?" Danielle turned around to face him again. "So instead you made me face the baby dying and my husband cheating by myself."
"By yourself?" David began to raise his voice in anger. "Like Jax wasn't here to dry your tears."
"I did not have sex with Jax," Danielle pointed her finger and David, almost as if daring him to continue his accusation.
She was too caught up in the moment to even question how David had known that she spent the night with Jax.
"You know what?" Danielle screamed as she power-walked towards the door and flung it open. "I want you to leave. Just get out now!"
"No," David stood his ground. "I wanna stay. I wanna talk about this."
"Okay," Danielle scoffed as she slammed the door shut again. "Let's talk about it then. How was she?"
"What?" David was surprised by her question.
"Was she good? How long have you been seeing her? How many times did you make love to her?"
David stood in silence.
"Come on, David. You said you wanted to talk about it," Danielle dared. "Let's talk about it."
"I'm sorry, okay?" David spoke in defeat. "I was disgusted with myself every time I did it."
"But you did it anyways," she bit her lip. "time and time again."
"She meant nothing to me."
David took a step closer to Danielle. Danielle took a step farther away from David.
"But she was worth jeopardizing our relationship."
"I was just heartbroken," David ran his hand through his hair out of frustration. "Our baby was dead."
"Well," Danielle's voice broke. "You sure had one hell of a time at the wake."
David stared at her as her words stung to his core.
"I was jealous of Jax," David spoke quietly. Tears were forming in his eyes.
"Alright," Danielle sighed. "Let's say I slept with Jax. Would you have been able to forgive me?"
David's face grew red with anger.
"Danielle, did you sleep with him?"
"Honestly," she looked into his eyes. "No. I did not. But by your reaction I can tell what your answer would be."
"Okay," David let a tear fall down his cheek. "You're right. I would be devastated if you slept with him. But I would still want to be with you."
The two stood in silence for what seemed like hours.
"Come on, Danielle. Tell me what you're thinking."
Danielle didn't answer.
"Are you not gonna talk to me now?"
Her silence was driving him crazy.
"Danielle, I'm sorry. I was out of my mind. I was grieving. I don't cheat. That's not me," David paused. "Jax is the one who cheats."
"The thing is," Danielle paused. "I expected him to cheat. I never expected it from you."
"I did a terrible, stupid thing." David's hands shook as he spoke." I wish I could take it back, but I can't. But Danielle, please don't throw away a relationship that is so damn good because I messed up. I can fix it."
Danielle began to sob.
"Danielle," he grabbed her hand. "I love you so much."
He leaned in to try to kiss her, hoping that she would kiss him back.
"No," She pushed David off and walked away. "It doesn't work like that. You can't just kiss me and act like the perfect husband and try to pretend you've never been inside another woman."
Tears still fell down her face.
"I think you should go," her voice broke. "I'm gonna stay here until I decide what to do."
"What?"
David seemed shocked at the idea of her not coming home with him.
"I really think you should go now," Danielle stated for the second time.
"There's got to be a way to work past this, Danielle." David no longer was able to hold back the tears. They began to roll down his cheeks.
"No," Danielle sobbed. "I can't. You're like a totally different person to me now. I used to think of you as someone that would never ever hurt me. Ever. And now I can't stop imagining you with her. I can't. It doesn't matter what you say or what you do. It's just changed everything."
David stared at the floor as tears fell onto the carpet.
"Danielle, I love you."
"David, I need some time alone."
David exhaled slowly as he tried to think of anything he could possibly say that would convince his wife of the remorse he felt. As he realized that talking wouldn't get them anywhere tonight, he accepted the reality of the situation.
"Okay," he surrendered. "I'll go home. But I love you with all of my heart and I am truly so sorry that I caused this. I'll let you have your space. But, please, come home to me, Danielle. I swear I will never hurt you like this again. You're my everything."
And then, just like that, he was gone.
And Danielle was once again standing in a silent room as her mind screamed.
Her body shook as her nervous system failed her. She could feel her pulse in her ears as he blood pressure rose.
She wanted to cry. But she wouldn't let herself.
She had cried too much. And David certainly hadn't been crying when he had been hurting her and cheating behind her back.
She made her way to the hotel mirror and quickly cleaned herself up the best that she could before picking her cellphone up off the bed and dialing Jax's number.
She knew it wasn't a wise choice. But she didn't want to be alone tonight. She wanted to escape the reality of her situation-even if it was just for a couple hours.
"Hey," She quickly spoke as Jax answered the phone. "Are you free?"
Danielle giggled as her pool cue completely missed the ball.
"Try again, honey," Tig told her patiently as he watched the young girl stumble. There was no denying that she had been drinking her tequila far too hard and fast. However, word about her husband's infidelity had already made it's way through the club. And, therefore, not one single club member questioned why the brunette was drinking her problems away tonight.
"Luann's in the clear," Clay's words caught the attention of the room. "Otto- not so much."
"Why?" Bobby asked. "What happened?"
Clay's face broke into a smile as he looked over his club members- his eyes rested on Danielle, who was leaning against the pool table.
"He shattered Stahl's face."
As all the men commented in satisfaction, Danielle's scream of excitement drowned them out.
"Are you fucking serious!" the woman slurred. As drunk as she might've been, she was sober enough to understand and appreciate what Otto had done.
"There you go, girl," Chibbs patted the drunk woman's shoulder affectionately as he spoke. "That cunt got what she was lookin' for."
"I think I love Otto," Danielle smiled as she picked up her cue stick again and readied herself as she prepared to take another shot at the ball she had missed earlier.
"Clay. Cops"
Juice's serious tone as he warned the group would had sobered Danielle up- if she had heard him.
Instead, her heart jumped out of her chest as the sound of shattering glass and commands hit her ears. The tipsy woman fumbled to the floor as she tried to focus her eyes on what was going on around her..
The fear in her acted as if it was Narcan- instantly taking away the high she had been chasing all night by chugging her bottle of tequila.
It was then that Danielle's eyes locked on agent Stahl's bruised and battered face. She wanted to kill the woman. She wanted to spit on her. She wanted to laugh in her bludgeoned face.
But instead, she laid there frozen in fear.
