Chapter 6: Teaming Up

Musketeers: Season 1: Episode 1: Friends and Enemies

D'Artagnan was so pissed at Athos that he decided he wasn't through with this fight yet. He knew throwing the sword at Athos/Oliver's back hadn't be the wisest of moves since he was in a Garrison of Musketeers. But he knew Oliver would understand that if he wanted to hit him, he would have. As D'Artagnan had become an expert on knife throwing pretty quickly and he hoped Athos/Oliver would know that the next step up was through swords.

He knew his eyes still held a hint of gold. But only enough for a wolf to see. His Brother was giving him the look.

"Now, fight me or die on your knees!" D'Artagnan shouts holding out his sword, "I don't care which"

Athos raises an eyebrow at him basically telling him silently to cool down. But Athos knew his Little Pup was still incredible pissed at him. Athos could smell it and sense it and to be perfectly honest he knew he deserved it.

"No?"

D'Artagnan launches at Athos but Aramis intercepts him. Blocking D'Artagnan's thrust at Athos. Just like D'Artagnan wanted him to do.

He wanted to see what these men would do for his Big Brother.

"He said enough", Aramis says calmly.

"Very well", he says panting.

'Oh no', Athos thinks just knowing there was trouble brewing.

"I'll fight both of you", he replies.

Athos growls lowly at that, "Charles enough", he whispers lowly for only them to hear.

But he was ignored and D'Artagnan launches an attack which Aramis meets with Porthos joining in until them slam their swords down on his on the table.

Athos knew if D'Artagnan really wanted to he could break Aramis and Porthos hold on his sword. Him letting them hold it down just proved that his Little Brother didn't really want to fight them. At the moment at least.

But what was his Little Pup up too?

"Three of us"

"Now, for God's sake, put up your sword", Porthos tells him.

"You'll have to kill me for it", D'Artagnan growls back.

"Charles", Athos groans under his breath.

Athos grunts as D'Artagnan breaks their hold on his sword and starts to fight all three of them.

'I am regretting teaching him to fight multiple opponents', Athos thinks.

"Slimy little bugger isn't yah?" Porthos comments.

Soon they had him backed up to the stairs and Athos knew his Brother had allowed that. He had seen the glint in his Little Pups eyes.

Then what the Kid had done hit him. Damn bugger had been testing them!

Suddenly both Wolves smell and hear a familiar figure enter the Garrison.

"Stop fighting! All of you!" Constance yells, "Is three against one fair?"

'No to humans. But to wolves…', both Brothers think separately.

D'Artagnan sniffs and winces at the anger he could smell coming off her. His wolf didn't like it. Something about making this woman upset or angry upset HIM.

"We weren't going to kill him", Athos tells her honestly putting his sword down and turning away.

"Weren't we?" Porthos asks turning towards Constance.

"Next time, let us know", Aramis says dropping his sword.

"Madame Bonacieux, what are you doing here?" Athos asks her.

He was surprised when he caught a whiff of his Little Brothers scent on her and he looked between the two of them and raised an eyebrow at his Brother who growls lowly at him.

"Not a word", D'Artagnan warns under his breath.

"I followed him because I knew he was going to do something stupid", Constance says storming over.

D'Artagnan gets up and moves close to her untenably showing some of his wolf traits.

"I don't need a woman to protect me", D'Artagnan replies, he was tired, cranky and pissed off.

That was why his mood hadn't improved at the moment he just wanted to get his Brother alone and find out what the HELL was going on! And why on earth did he break HIS PROMISE! And how the HELL he WASN'T dead!

"Don't say another word", she says to him angrily, "If only men would think instead of fight, there might be more good ones left"

D'Artagnan internally winces at that. He wanted to explain himself. But the secret of Werewolves wasn't one given out lightly and to complete strangers.

"Him I'm not sure about. But her I like", Aramis pipes up with a smile.

Suddenly D'Artagnan and Athos stiffen smelling and hearing more men approaching and D'Artagnan's eyes widen as he recognised one of the scents.

Oh, how that scent pissed him off!

'Is everyone going to turn out to be alive?' D'Artagnan growls.

Athos winced internally seeing his Pups eyes widen and more gold fill them. His Pup had recognised the scent and he could smell how angry that made his Pup.

"Not now", Athos says under his breath to D'Artagnan.

As at the moment they had little time to spend on that as Treville and several men walk over to them and the two Wolves just knew this meant trouble.

Something was telling them that this wasn't good. Their wolves were screaming at them danger.

"What's going on?" a voice asks.

D'Artagnan's eyes lock at his Godfathers and his Godfathers lock on his and Treville's eyes widen at the impossibility that was standing in front of him.

Treville looked to Athos for confirmation and Athos gives a slight nod.

"Never mind. Did you find Cornet?" Treville asks managing to take his eyes off his Godson.

"He never made it to the monastery", Athos reports, "Give us 20 men and we'll search the road to Chartres"

Athos stiffens as he sees the Red Guard come forward with chains. He hears his Pup growl lowly and knew that no matter what had now and, in the past, had happened between them, there was one thing for certain his Pup would back him up no matter how badly they were fighting.

"Athos, I'm sorry", Treville tells him with regret, "These men have come to arrest you"

He hears his Pup growl again and Athos shoots him a warning look. And he briefly saw some of the gold that had started entering the Pups eyes dim.

"You're to appear before the King immediately", Treville adds, "…charged with robbery and murder"

D'Artagnan wanted to speak up and tell them that Athos didn't do it. But that would lead to questions on how he knew this. D'Artagnan knew he would have to find another way to help his Brother without revealing his/their secret.

"I promise them there'd be no trouble", Treville says with regret in his eyes.

Athos hands over his sword to Treville and looks at his Pup.

"I'm not the man you're looking for", Athos tells him as he was led away.

"I know", he hears his Pup says lowly for only his ears.

"Why did my Father name you before he died?" D'Artagnan asks to keep up the act.

Treville looks at his Godson sharply.

What was this?

Impossible!

Alexandre had been dead for many years. But then again, his son and Treville's Godson was standing in front of them right now. So obviously everything was not as it seemed. But who would go to all this trouble and why?

"I don't know", Athos replies as he was being lead away.

D'Artagnan couldn't say anything else to his Brother. As there wasn't another opportunity. But he did know if these men he had just fought against were going to try and clear his Brothers name. Then the only way they would do it was with HIS help. The help of someone who had actually witnessed these acts and the help unknowingly given by a werewolf

And to his realization he knew he needed them as much as they unknowingly needed a werewolf

(Line Break)

D'Artagnan sat in Constance's house waiting for word on what was happening to Athos. He knew he couldn't follow Athos and the others. He was a nobody and wouldn't be permitted at the palace.

D'Artagnan was wrapping his brain trying to think of a way to prove his Brothers innocence without giving away the BIG secret. And it all came back to those two friends of his Brother and himself teaming up.

His wolf loved Constance's touch on his ribs. D'Artagnan had to let her wrap them even through they would heal fast. At least he knew they were healing correctly. Which was a relief. Having them rebroken was a bitch to put up with.

D'Artagnan had to put up with Constance's Husband seeming to brag about who he was. The man was annoying him and he was already on edge.

"Jaques-Michel Bonacieux at your service", Constance husband says introducing himself, "Merchant in fine quality cloths and linens to the nobility. Perhaps you're hear do me?"

'How could I have heard of you. I am from Gascony!' D'Artagnan thinks rolling his eyes internally.

"I'm afraid not", D'Artagnan replies trying to be polite after all this was the woman's husband and he had already been rude enough to her.

"Hmmm", Jaques says, "So, how did you come by these injuries?"

'Oh, I don't know. It would have been my misjudged exist at the inn or the anger I released at my Brother. Who I believe was testing me. We are going to have to talk about his methods. AFTER I kill him for LEAVING ME!', D'Artagnan thinks.

"My injuries don't matter. I've failed my Father", D'Artagnan replies looking away, "I came to kill the man that murdered him, but all I've found are more questions"

He did believe Athos was innocent. But that meant he didn't know who the true killer was. He knew then he would have to return to the Inn and try and sniff out the trail. Only problem there was it would be better to do it in wolf form as he didn't know what dangers he could be facing. And it would be faster too and the fact there had been a storm and several days passing he would need to be wolf to track the scent. If there was one still left.

But he didn't want it to come to that. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to change till the moon sets and it could be too late by then!

So going wolf wasn't an option that he liked at the moment.

'Please God give me some help here!' D'Artagnan thinks.

"I can't rest until I know the truth", D'Artagnan tells them with a slight tilt of his head at hearing hurried footsteps approaching, 'And I can't rest with my Big Brothers life in the balance. I may be angry but not angry enough to see him killed!'

Suddenly he smelt two familiar scents coming into the house. It smelt like the men he fought at the Garrison. His Brothers friends.

'Right in the nick of time. God answers prays fast!', D'Artagnan thinks.

"That's lucky, because rest is out of the question", Aramis says storming in with Porthos.

D'Artagnan instinctively goes for his sword and the other hand on his throwing dagger as he smelt the adrenaline and anger pulsing through the duo's veins.

Porthos raises his hands in a calming gesture, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. We're not here to fight"

"Those Musketeers who attacked you, would you know of them again?" Aramis asks him.

'Yes', D'Artagnan thinks but out loud he says, "They all wore masks"

D'Artagnan saw their disappointed expressions. But he wasn't going to let them or him down. He had a plan. It was complicated and might get him in a LOT of trouble. But the what was at stake was worth the risks.

And anyway, he wouldn't be able to live with himself if his Brother died for real this time.

"I shot one of them", D'Artagnan tells them, hoping that this conversation would go where he needed it too, "His body might still be there at the inn"

"All right, saddle up. We're leaving", Porthos tells him.

D'Artagnan hides a smirk.

The plan looked like it was starting the way he wanted.

'Thank God. God you sure work fast! I thought for a minute I was going to have to go solo/rogue and then Oliver would kill me!'

"This morning, you try and kill them, and now you're best friends?" Constance asks in disbelief.

'Well if Ollie trusts them, I do. My wolf is also telling me to trust them. Anyway, what do I have to lose? I am a man that has lost everything and a man that MAY have regained his Brother and Godfather and a new pack', D'Artagnan thinks.

"Athos's life is at stake", Aramis states.

D'Artagnan's wolf growls at that having been confirmed his Brother had been sentenced to die.

'Not on my watch! Time, I repaid one of those debts Brother', D'Artagnan thinks.

"He's to be executed in the morning for the crimes he didn't commit", Aramis tells them.

'Well damn. Lucky I'm not going wolf then or I might be too late to save his life'

They walk out and D'Artagnan has to stifle a chuckle when he hears Aramis's parting words.

"Forgive the intrusion, Monsieur", he hears Aramis say.
