Chapter 7 - I tried to forget these memories
Near lunchtime the group of friends and half acquaintances, decided to head to the food court. There were multiple suggestions made for where they should go but Bakugo was preoccupied squinting to see the types of food on the menus. He wasn't particularly hungry while looking at the menus, however he spied a place that sold Katsudon and chuckled to himself.
"Something funny happen Bakugo?" Round face looked at him sceptically. Bakugo turned to the group who were confused about his amusement. His eyes locked with Izuku's and he tilted his head as a response to the look.
"Follow me extras," Bakugo headed towards the fast food chain with his hand firmly in his pockets and making sure to maintain a slight lead, to keep his face out of view. He had no idea what kind of face he was making right now.
Izuku read through the menu items and gasped in surprise. They sold his favourite food here. He lightly slapped Bakugo's arm repeatedly and squeaked in excitement, "They have Katsudon here!" The whole group took a double take at Bakugou, including Kirishima.
"What are you extras looking at?" after a pause and possibly feeling embarrassed, "I'll go find a table to reserve." He wandered off before anyone could protest.
Kirishima commented, smirking, "He's not usually that thoughtful when others are concerned." Izuku assumed he had been making a confused face for Kirishima to say that.
Why not? He vividly remembered times when they were kids where he would frequently give up his toys or show Izuku the way. Of course, later he became his bully like flipping a switch. The memory of Bakugo lording over him with a sneer blinked into his head. A chill made the hairs on his arms stand up.
"Next!" they were next to order, Izuku felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to find Ochaku with eyebrows frowned in concern. He forced a smile and nodded, "I'm fine."
The memory persisted in his head while he was trying to order, it was only after he looked at the dish he was given, he realised he ordered the spiciest version of their dish. Izuku sighed and took the bowl to the table. The rest of their friends were still waiting for their orders, and before he knew it, he sat alone with Bakugo at the table. Bakugo starred off at something in the distance for a minute before he looked straight at Izuku, "You can start eating if you want." He looked down at the bowl and realised that the bowl was red with spices. His eyebrows knitted together searching his memory and he kept coming to the same conclusion. Izuku has never liked spicy food.
"Wait here," Bakugo stood up and made his way to order his food. As the other slowly dripped back from the store front with their food. It was just Ochaku and Bakugo waiting for their food.
"Izu you haven't started eating yet?" Tsu asked with evident confusion. Iida and Kirishima had already started eating.
He had honestly been avoiding the food he had ordered. He had no tolerance for spices so he knew he was going to have a hard time enjoying his favourite food. Izuku came up with a quick excuse,"Oh I thought I would wait for everyone to sit down. Oh, don't worry about waiting for me, the others should be back soon and you don't want your food to be cold."He felt oldly embarrassed that he ordered the wrong thing and didn't want to reorder from the place or waste the food. When he looked over Bakugou was chatting to Ochaku with his usual frown as they walked back with their food. Ochaku sat down next to Tsu and Bakugo took his seat from earlier next to Izuku.
However, their return also meant that he now must face the spicy Katsudon. With a deep breath Izuku picked up his chopsticks but before he grabbed any food, it slid to the left and was replaced with the normal Katsudon. Bakugo started to gobble up the spicy food without even breaking a sweat. Izuku was going to protest and insist he swap the food back but Ochaku said, "Are you ok Izu? You're not eating?"
"I was just about to, it looks delicious," He caught the side glance that Bakugou gave him and Ochaku. He planned it seemingly. The first bite of the Katsudon slapped away any other thoughts or concerns as his stomach growled insistently.
